We have been coming here on a regular basis since day one when it opened in the mid 1980’s. Two Canadian guys with pizza that would compare to anything in Naples. Just been again and yet again the pizza was 100%

Been a while since we visited but we were looking for a good pizza in a traditional feeling restaurant. This place delivered. From booking to there willingness to accommodate 12 on a Saturday early evening we had a great time. Staff were friendly, helpful and we were very pleasantly surprised how quickly drinks and food were served. Definitely worth a visit and I know we will as well as some of the group who were there for the 1st time.

Booked restaurant for our family due to the positive reviews regarding the food. We had our table from 7:30pm and stated on the email booking that this was until 21:30pm. At 8:45pm as we were finishing off, the male waiter came and told us he needed the table very soon. We felt this put a damper towards the end as we felt we were rushed out and we hadn’t even had any desserts . Bit disappointing although food was nice.

Fantastic independent pizza restaurant! Excellent gluten free menu as well. GF pizza available in any size, makes a certain chain pizza restaurants offer seem a little silly! When we are back in Edinburgh, we will definitely be back

The staff are all very friendly and professional and the pizza is very tasty. Great place overall.

£70 for 4 drinks.. poor service, poorer drinks. Avoid.

Popped in with family for a quick bite but was bitterly disappointed with the food. The rolls for chicken burgers wee rock solid, the chicken itself was greasy and undercooked to the point of being slimy. The hot dog was burnt and again the roll was brick hard. Starter of nachos, two chicken burgers, one hot dog and three diet cokes cost us £63.55 Definitely a waste of money.

The gluten free pizza was amazing and enormous! They do kids meals too and they’re very affordable. The location is lovely and it just felt homely and comfortable.

The food was great and the portions were large. It was a little pricey however it was located in old town which was very convenient. I would recommend going for the pizza!

We loved the food and after a long walk on Royal miles it was very relaxing eating food over there. I liked the interior, it was cozy and the Pizza was delicious. The service was good.

First time in Edinburgh and was reccomended this restaurant by a friend, so glad they did because it was some of the nicest food we've had in a long time and the staff were really friendly! Thanks so much we had a lovely time 🥰

Family of 4 - lunch - no atmosphere, cold, dirty, staff glass faced and going thru motions. Anyway - food was ok - wings were stand out very good but child menu hot dog bun was stale/ v dry : it seemed pointless to say anything to staff. Pizza was ok and I don’t recognise the high praise seen in other reviews - mainly by regulars it seems - this pizza was on a par with a kebab shop that uses semolina to roll out - that was the only difference. Greasy, not hot enough oven and stodge stodge stodge. New Yorker - yeah, sure. Toilets! FFS, this place needs someone with eye sight. Absolutely thick with dirt on broken ‘finger pull’ handle to get in/ out of male toilet. Lock mechanism was like shaking hands with robocops dirty knob. Please clean the place and get some music on you dour, dour people.

My kid's still love coming here even though they're much older now. As they say, it's the best gluten free pizza!

In business since 1985, this is an excellent pizzeria. My wife, daughter and I have visited several times - we live locally and greatly enjoy it. The pizzas are great - as are the chips!

We have been going to Mammas since the very first night it opened in the Grassmarket circa 1985. The 2 Canadian guys that opened the place were onto a Goldmine as American taste/texture pizza was as rare as hens teeth in Scotland. One of the owners liked a good drink and was quite a character. The other guy, an actor/ voiceover guy was stable. Anyway the pizza was superb and still is. That is why we keep going back after almost 38 years. I grew up in Arthur Avenue in the Italian district of the Bronx, NYC, USA so I really appreciate a good pizza.

My daughter and I stopped in after a long day of sightseeing. We both enjoyed a hearty lasagna and I had the Gold Leader drink. Think of a light margarita with fizz. Everything was very tasty. The staff were great as well. Very friendly and we were never left wanting.

The girl who served us at the table was kind, but the dishes were unthinkable for those who love good food and would give you a "rust" feeling in your stomach. It's not clear if it's a pizzeria or a Mexican place. Our neighbors at the table ordered two pizzas... with a pleasant appearance and aroma. But abroad I avoid "Italian" foods; I'm all for new culinary experiences, but unfortunately you don't always get the best. I can't recommend this place to you. Good luck, Edinburgh is beautiful and fascinating, particular and mysterious!

Le Chili est très épicés mais ils proposent des plats variés, l'accueil était agréable bien que la serveuse était très occupée mais elle a très bien fait son travail et était à l'écoute de sa clientèle

Brilliant place at the bottom of grass market, only small, super friendly staff, able to accommodate gluten free diet, 9" pizza more than big enough for one person but could easily be shared between 2 with a plate of fries excellent (we took half back to hotel )

Franchement, serveuse très gentille malgrés qu'elle soit seule avec pas mal de monde, elle gère très bien la salle. La nourriture est très bonne, je tiens juste à prévenir les futures clients qui voudraient manger leurs "Texas Chili", j'adore manger épicer mais la je n'ai pas su terminer mon plat tellement il piquait. Je ne mettrais pas la faute sur le cuisinier, je ne sais pas si c'est moi qui ne pas fort au piquant. Ce n'est pas une critique négative, juste une mise en garde. Sinon, super souvenir !

Randomly found this place while walking around Edinburgh for a few days holiday. I was very surprised at how decent the food actually was. Plus the server was very friendly and extremely helpful. They have a lot of pizza options plus gluten free too, however, not too many other main options other than pizza. However the different pizza options were amazing and very varied. Their chips were personally the best my sister and I have ever had. Definitely go back again. Also didn't feel horrendous after the pizza like I normally do when having pizza as take out.

Our tour guide recommended this place. We did not feel like searching for another place, so we gave this one a try and were pleased. I can't remember which pizza I had, but it was very spicy which was a nice change from spicy level in Germany where we currently live. It was also conveniently located around the corner from our hotel.

Really great crispy pizzas that came to us super fast. The vibe was laid back and chilled. Hostesses we’re great as well. I would definitely return.

Pizzas buenísimas en pleno centro de Edimburgo. Todas las pizzas tienen opción sin gluten y la masa está buenísima. De las mejores pizzas sin gluten que he probado, sin duda. El local tiene dos comedores y el personal es amable y atento. Genial.

What a lovely place! Very good and tasty pizzas. We went there twice during our short trip :) Friendly staff and great value for money. We will be definitely coming back!

Maybe it’s because I ordered the burger, but y’all… not again. They brought out some microwaved situation on a bun that should have only been used as a doorstop. The meat had no seasoning other than that flavor you get when the microwave cooks the meat on the defrost setting. I hope the pizza is great, but I won’t ever know and I’m okay with that. Hard pass.

Very grateful for a place that carefully prepared gluten free pizza. Ours was very good; could perhaps be cooked a few minutes more. Excellent service. Great location.

Loved this place! Food, music, service… everything’s was so good!

I ordered a delivery. The restaurant is a 10 minute drive from my house. 2.5 hours later I was still waiting. I called and was told my pizza had been made up and was waiting for a driver. I asked if my pizza was really made 2.5 hours before and they had not thought to confirm a driver before making the pizza. They said yes. I said we'll my pizza, when it eventually turns up it will be cold. Yes. I spoke to one guy who answered the phone and his manager and they both said it wasn't their problem. 3.5 hours after I ordered it turned up. Cold, brick hard and without the extra topping I paid for. What an absolute joke.

Wonderful place to stop and eat pizza. The food and service were very good. There is outside seating allowing you to watch the many people wandering by. A wheelchair would be a little difficult but as long as you stay outside I think you would be good. Wonderful time eating, visiting, and people watching.

all options come with gluten free base

Order was wrong, ordered sweet potato fries were asked an array of questions about the seasoning then ended up with normal fries. GF had gluten free pizza that had to be sent back because the dough was still raw in the middle and still was the worst one she’s had unfortunately. Not sure what medication the people who said it’s the best were on but I wouldn’t mind some myself. Sad to say we will not be returning.

Keep meaning to leave a review as myself abs my husband had a lovely meal here last Saturday..: it was late and near closing time but they still offered us a table with no reservation… The steak on a stone was amazing and food was top class all round… The hospitality was fab and a big shout out to the lovely waitress Daisy who really made us feel welcome and hope the couple of men from Seattle we met to enjoy their time in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 we can’t wait to return…

As an Edinburgh resident we thought it was time to try this longstanding institution. That was our first mistake. Pizza was poor (burnt on the bottom, dough didn't taste fresh, hard not chewy). Nachos were full of cheese that was cold and had never been heated through. Guacamole and salsa clearly from a large catering vat. Service very attentive but the place was quiet. Well below average. Would not recommend,will not be back.

I decided to go based on the reviews how wrong could they be and as a quick stop before our train back to London. My sons are American enthusiasts so I went with the given name and by the pics I saw thought it would be more aesthetically pleasing to the USA but not much decor, quite bland and small place. The pizzas were standard and tasted supermarket brought like as the sauce and cheese had been slapped on. Also the waitress took a while before she brought the bill to us, found many places to be this way however would help to be more attentive as people have places to be / trains to catch.

Here for the second day on the trot. The pizzas, nachos, fries and ice cream are all wonderful. There are plenty of friendly staff on hand. The service is quick. What’s not to like. Megan, Ava, Jamuna - thanks for looking after us. See you all again tomorrow (probably).

Wanted to review this higher because I so enjoyed the pizza. I liked especially the choice of toppings and the fact they also did gluten free bases. I had the mama’s sweet nectar with a GF base which was so delicious and the base was very crispy. However, the staff lets this place down. They were standing around chatting and not attentive at all. When we asked for a high chair, they bought one which was faulty (luckily they had more than one). One person in our party’s pizza also arrived late after being chased up.

Friendly staff and a range of menu options, but the food was awful. Pizzas felt stale and were tasteless. We are glad that we only ordered a small meal as we didn’t enjoy it!

Mamas Pizzas are gorgeous but decided to go for the lasagna and garlic bread takeaway. So disappointed. Not authentic at all! Cheddar on the lasagna!!! Mamas you can do so much better than this!!!

Shared a pizza here for lunch in their outside seating. Such a lovely location and the pizza is great too. We loved witnessing the bustle of the fringe as we ate.

Friendly and quick service, low quality and rather expensive pizza, tables on top of each other, lots of families with (screaming) children. Felt like a tourist trap.

Excellent food and service. I would go here again. The only thing I didnt like about the meal was the sides, the mushy veg and the greens with no flavor (garnish, I am sure). But the steak I had was great and my wife's lasagna was good.

The buffalo wings were good. The pizza was distinctly below average with rubbery meat, crumbly cheese and a soggy base that was too thick for thin crust and too thin for deep pan. The service SUCKED. Awkward, mumbling teens are forgivable, up to a point, but I've never been hustled out of a place so rapidly after finishing (and it's hardly as if they were busy enough to be desoarate for the table). Sometimes people want to just sit for a while after eating, they shouldn't have the bill thrust upon them as soon as it becomes clear they don't want to order anything else. On top of that, to stand by the table and "suggest" out loud that the customer might want to add a tip is just not how it's done. Don't do it!

Pizza war gut. Personal gab uns aber kein Besteck, keine Serviette, fragte zwischendurch nicht ob alles ok ist. Weiterhin hätten wir gerne weitere Getränke zu uns genommen aber das interessiere niemanden. Reden mit Kollegen und der Küche war wichtiger.

This was an incredible find. Highly recommend. My husband and I shared a 12 inch with a salad side and chilli cheese fries. All the food was delicious. Could not fault. The salad was a great addition to our meal (rocket, pomegranet and walnut). The staff were really attentive and made us feel really welcome. They always knew what we needed before we had to ask for it. Perfect spot.

Really nice food, had a few different pizzas and sides and everything was was very tasty. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Very well priced for the location, definitely recommend if you are in a pizza mood.

Ordered a plate of nachos for my son, it was served with a handful of jalapeños on top (no idea why) and the nachos hadn’t been heated properly - cheese was only melted on the top. Tables outdoor are squished together, not very comfortable or cozy.

Food was great but staff seem to find amusement with children with bowel issues. I can't blame kitchen staff for how serving staff treat their younger customers.

It was late afternoon when we strolled through the Grassmarket area looking for a bite to eat before we walked the 2 klm or so back to our hotel. After walking up and down the row of restaurants and café’s Mammas looked the most inviting. Most of the outside tables were occupied which is always a good sign. We grabbed an outside table and a menu, deciding on the medium sized Matador pizza, a glass of Sav Blanc and a soft drink. The Matador comes with Chorizo, Salami, Chicken and Red Onion. The meal came in due course, we were in no hurry. Whilst we waited it was entertaining to see the droves of tourists strolling along the Grassmarket walkway and lawns. The pizzas presentation was great, the taste excellent, and the general atmosphere of the locality enjoyable. The prices were very reasonable so we came away happy with the meal. I would certainly recommend Mammas.

Probably the worst pizza I've ever tried. Nothing had any flavor. Not the crust, not the sauce, not the cheese or any of the toppings. It was like eating foam.

We are really disappointed after our recent visit, we booked a table for 6 and requested outside dining due to taking our dog. When we arrived we had to wait 15 minutes before someone served us, we explained we had a booking and was told it was an indoor table but because we had our dog we had to sit outdoors and sit and 2 separate tables. We were there celebrating our 3 kids birthdays and we were at different tables completely, when my husband asked if we could just join 2 tables we were told no. Food was average, we ordered nachos with just cheese but this came with jalapeños on top, I said we just wanted cheese, the staff member said I will just pick them off for you, so bad, I thought she was joking but that’s exactly was she did. Our food was served before our drinks and we had to ask twice for napkins and forks. The customer service and hygiene of the staff was pretty terrible, even after explaining we were celebrating 3 birthdays they still didn’t even attempt to sit us together.

Maybe we just chose a bad day and got in the middle of new/seasonal staff training but overall experience was a bit meh.. Well, pizza was OK, but was not what we expected (a deep dish American Pizza). Prices are unnecessary high and it would have been nice if menu was explained a bit more. They have a variety of pizza options, 1-2 pasta dishes. Vegetarian can still have a bite to eat..

Could not fault Mammas Edinburgh, my wife is Gluten free and its hard to find a good piza restaurant, we have been to lots of different restaurants but this restaurant did amazing gluten free food. we would definitely recommend here for everyone Gluten free and non Gluten free.... thanks

Had a vegan pizza - would recommend having with the veggie sausage, which I really enjoyed as a topping. The coke was draught, which is just perfect. Cannot beat a draught coke. The fries are a decent portion size, and the 9" pizza is very filling. If you like Star Wars, hearty diner style food, this is a good place to come.

Neat place to stop for lunch without getting distracted (Oh look! a Muffin Stall!) by all the other restaurants, cafes and market stands in the grassmarket. Even the smallest available portions were massive, luckily the server helped us out with a takeaway box. One cat...

Stopped in today after a hike on Arthur’s Seat and got just the carbs we were looking for. The staff was all friendly and they had Gluten-free options for me which I loved. Probably the only downside is they have a bunch of really great sounding specialty pizzas so picking between them might be hard.

We ordered the olives and a large pizza to share (two of us) both were absolutely delicious. We had great service. My only complaint is that we were next to the toilet and it had a sliding door so when people didn't close it you...

Went here twice during our trip to Edinburgh. The gluten free pizza is delicious. Husband has an allergy to wheat and no issues. The staff is wonderful. Open late when we found out a lot of kitchens close at 9. Good pizza!
