Nice and cosy if you want to have a good quality coffee and time to catch up on your reading. Nice options of pastries and very friendly staff.

What a bargain!! Incredible place we found very randomly and gave it a go. Absolutely recommend! Food is great, cooked properly and very tasty. The chicken sandwich was super and only 5 pounds!! And big portions as well. I don’t know why it is kinda unknown but it’s absolutely bargain and very close to pretty much everything, station, city center… Sandwiches come with some chips which is very nice

Fab place. Just behind Waverley. Had a great vibe, super friendly staff, great coffee and a wonderful cinnamon bun. Cosy and welcoming and highly recommended. Good value for money.

Close to the hotel and just stopped in for a latte and croissant. Nice cafe, very clean and very very good coffee. Nice friendly staff. Nice selection of fresh pastries and sandwiches. All produce is locally farmed coffee is roasted from cairngorm coffee roasters.

Absolutely lovely staff and calm, easy going environment. Staff were very accommodating and made adjustments with the menu with ease. Absolutely lovely. Food was top notch too and lots of options on the menu to choose from. Really nice, just had a toastie but the bread was a lovely fresh ciabatta.

Excellent hot bacon roll, no skimping on the portion, the rocky road was divine. Highly recommend

Excellent coffee but croissant’s not the most fresh. Almond croissant is the better option. Possibly a better place for dinner than breakfast.

Jake's is an excellent cafe in the heart of Edinburgh. The staff are outstanding and there is fantastic selection of croissants, cinnamon buns and quiches. Will return 100%.

Though I'm staying at the Market Street, I was not impressed with their £18 breakfast ($23) and tried Jake's Place. Just what I wanted: a wonderful currant scone and an aromatic iced latte without the ice. As I never drink hot coffee (unless ill), this was akin to the espresso and half and half I make every day at home. The staff are are warm and inviting; I'll be back!

Full rating for how perfect this little Cafe is. As a visitor from the US, I found the food fantastic, well prepared and served, and the Server was an absolute delight.

One of very few places for a good coffee in Edinburgh, and the bacon roll freshly made is just out of this world.

Great cafe offering exceptional coffee and fresh food. Highly recommend the quiche. Nice selection of Scottish beer and spirits.

Went for a wee friends reunion and what a place! Cannot fault the server George, who despite us all being quite picky and awkward was so cheerful and happy to oblige. Loved the aesthetic of the place and a good bourbon selection which kept us happy. Defo will be back next time in Edinburgh

Visiting Jakes for the first time the decor looked a bit rough with sheets of corrugated roofing on the walls but the staff were friendly and helpful. A few drinks at a table was better than we could manage at other places nearby the Waverley station as the Fringe festival was in full swing and everywhere was packed out. This was in the afternoon so I imagine this place would light up at night and make a great local bar.

Cerveses de tirador i ampolles, sense gaire varietat però barates. Menjar estil ràpid però ben fet.

Chris and Jemma are awesome, great craft beer selection, bottles, taps, casks. Best Calamari in Edinburgh. Very helpful bathroom vending machines.

Great bar we went to in Edinburgh when we visited. Became our favourite place to chill after a busy day being a tourist. Food was delish too.

Nice place to relax and catch a coffee. Fairly younger crowd than most other pubs. They also run games on the multiple TVs in house.

Very friendly place for travellers, the bar doubles as reception desk for the Hostel upstairs. Good sélection of beers, one can grab a bite there aswell. Music venues once or twice a week.

Ohhhhh! Yes they are! So, basically I took the train from Birmingham to Edinburgh just to take a selfie outside Edinburgh castle (long story, wont bore you with it). Anyway, with said selfie in the can and with just under two hours left till the train home I happened upon this rather non-descript looking bar in Market St. The place appeared to be full of backpackers (which made perfect sense as I later discovered there was a hostel next door) and was a bit dark and dingy looking. However, taking selfies is hungry work and they had burgers so why not. Anyway, the girl behind the bar was lovely and helpful so after asking for a recommendation I ordered the ‘Highland Cow’ (6oz burger with Haggis and Monterey Jack cheese) and a pint of ale infused lager. First of all I should say that I was very very hungry but this burger really hit the mark. The chips only looked like regular French fries but they were really well seasoned with salt and crushed black pepper and together with the whiskey cream sauce were absolutely awesome! The burger was also well cooked and together with the Haggis tasted greeeeeaaat! The ale/lager was really very nice too and was a good recommendation so all in all enjoyable meal. In summary I was pleasantly rewarded with some excellent service, satisfying burger and a delicious pint so two thumbs up to all the staff at Jake’s Place 😀

Good stop near the train station and shows sport if that's your thing - linked to Belushis and the hostel too and share toilets and kitchen although not menu. 390 a T so not the cheapest but just ok. The haggis is superb but please avoid the deep fried mars bars at a fiver if they still do them - it's nae Scottish at all!! We were treated very well by the Manager after having to vacate our reserved table and were seated at the bar in full view of the TV's. Inflatable sheep are available in the toilet :)

Tenía una vaca hamburguesa Highland aquí con un amigo en octubre de 2017. La hamburguesa estaba bien, las patatas fritas, o debería decir la especia en bastante las patatas fritas, fue excelente. Además, teníamos que más escocesa de platos, un bar frito mars - con Irn Bru empanada. Pequeño, pero bonito comedor con 3 pantallas de Tv, estaban mostrando fútbol americano cuando estuvimos allí. (También, altos canadiense detrás del bar debería ser el rostro al lado de cualquier empresa de maquillaje es lo suficientemente inteligente para alquilar ella). .

Food here amazing! The wings are so good. Staff are brilliant too, very accomodating. Helped us so much with a charity night. Reasonable drinks.

Visited Saturday afternoon, couple pints with my lady. Bit peckish, thought a few nibbles first then a big burger. Order Nachos with pulled pork. Not very hot (heatwise), squeezy cheese, squeezy guacamole, cold meat. Didn't bother ordering a main course. Simple dish, easy to get wrong.

I should have known better. I'm hungry and just off the train. Where not to go is the first eatery/pub (almost) I see when I emerge from the railway station. It was busy and brash. Burger and beer was passed to me without hardly a word or expression. A bit wild and a bit rough in here - not my idea of a relaxing lunch. Best learned and forgotten. Sorry.

The Famous Burger is Excellent , as was all of the food we had. Staff was great and the music was fantastic on both of our visits to this Bar and restaurant!

We ran the marathon and felt like half gods, so we were in need for some Guinness. We decided to enter Jake's place. After our entrance we did a Dutch traditional 'stoelendans', unfortunately this was not appreciated. We then sat down as gentlemen and started to enjoy our Guinness. In this place Guinness is not served, but taken away from you.. suddenly the waitress grabbed our Guinness and ordered us to leave. My friend was in an emotional state and instead of providing comfort she decided to deny him his Guinness... then the waitress made a comment about the length of one of the guys and was already phoning the police. Sad thing is she threw the Guinness down the drain.. we were all very upset about this sin.. #I❤️Guinness

Wow - especie de Jake's por casualidad encontramos y estábamos muy contentos de haberlo hecho. Solo pasar por una noche de viernes, escuchamos un gran ruido desde dentro. Fuimos para encontrar una banda increíble - son cada viernes por la noche. Estábamos bien atendidos en el bar, encontramos la multitud a ser divertido y tuvimos un tiempo estupendo.

Great music, great service, perfect atmosphere. This place is probably not the fanciest one, Come here for the live music and the great staff.

Visited this amazing bar twice when I watched the UEFA EURO 2016! The staff are very friendly and nice especially the lady bartender . She even gave me tips how amazing the other bar is. At night, there's an acoustic solo man playing. He is good and friendly too. This bar is nice to hang-out with friends. For only GBP3, you can have a good beer here (better if you have a Student Card too for more discount).

Somewhat out of the way location, very sizeable seating area. Needs to be well filled to have a decent atmosphere. Ony three or four tables occupied when we visited (13.00hrs) Very limited menu - we had Strozzapreti which was essentially mass of pasta with but little in the way of the stated beef and venison. The tiramasu was mass-produced rubbish. The worst Zizzi experience I have had.

Detta stället var egentligen helt ok med välsmakande mat. Tyvärr fick vi vår kall. Hamburgare och pommes blir deppiga när de är kalla så inte ens den uppsluppna stämningen höjde upplevelsen.

"Big dog" was nice but the dry, powdery buns it was served on were rubbish, they just fall apart in your hands

Tried to book their sister restaurant during the fringe festival which was unavailable, but were offered Jakes which is next door. Lovely little bar, good food & drink. Very welcoming with live music, great atmosphere.

Nice atmosphere, good beer is mainly in bottles rather than on tap. Food is basic pub stuff, stops you getting drunk, but isn't amazing.

Great concert! Nice pub. The hostel is not the best. In hour room was smell not the best. I don't know, but I felt like the bed linen was not the freshest. But price was ok and localization!

This was just below my hotel and the food was quite good. It was the perfect place to watch the soccer match happening that day!

I stopped at this place whilst in Edinburgh for some food and I have to admit I really enjoyed it! It's a cool and quirky bar with good music, good food and good beer, staff are friendly and there's good service check it out if your in Edinburgh

Really nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Some odd things on the menu (eg. jaegermeister Mayo!) but the beer was good and it's a really rustic place to sit. Near Waverley station - well worth a visit if you're in the area!

Went with a friend and got the large platter for two which had chicken wings, wedges, onion rings etc, was very filling then the ice cream chocolate oreo cake for afters was which divine, service was very quick, we were looked after by Pamela who went the extra mile to make sure our drinks were always topped up and found us a quieter spot when there was a table free as the rugby was on which wasn't our scene. Will definitely visit again especially for the cake of dreams ha.

Went in for a pint on Saturday night with friends. Beer was over priced and barman (man bun) was rude when I asked him about his lagers (last time I checked Edinburgh gold was an ale - that's why I asked). Charged me over £13 something which is bad enough never mind his attitude. Liked his socks though.

We were visiting family in Edinburgh and were on our own one day when we ran into Jake's Place. Had a pint and a great steak pie, Pam the server was brilliant and gave us a couple of pint glasses to take home. Great place to chill, have a pint and something to eat. Thanks Jake's Place!!

Nice pub with good food! Watch Scotland football! Staff was very nice and helpful selections. We watch the game and could still talk to each other instead of having music or tv too loud!

Small place does get a bit cramped when the hostel stayers upstairs come in for a drink.However its a good place to have a pint and meet people. A good band was playing in the weekend

The stairs to the beer garden in this place are a death trap. One of my party slipped and spilled the drinks he was carrying. The manager insisted we repay for 3 spilled drinks. Despite being in a party of 12 who would have spent a lot of money and time there, he couldn't see the bigger picture, so we moved on. Voted with our feet and we won't be back. Word of mouth is consumer power... Don't touch this place with a barge pole!

We came across this place by chance as we were in Edinburgh for the Tattoo. So glad we did, had a great vibe, nice friendly staff on hand. We shared a bowl of sweet potato fries....WOW!!!Definitely coming back with the whole family next time

Visited Jakes Place with the Mrs purely for food. The food was excellent and we'll worth a visit, staff were friendly and helpful. It is a cosy place and very welcoming. The only thing I could pull them up on was the tables for eating at were far too low and screwed to the floor, only just managed to get our legs under. The stools with the tables were too high for the tables, either way an uncomfortable eating position, address this issue and it would have been 5 stars from me.

We read some negative comments about this place, but for us this place worked out fine. No issues with staff or drinks. We were well treated and drink selection was nice.

Amazing service my partner lost her iPhone we didn't have a clue where we were and Shannon from jakes place helped us out so much made us a warm cup of tea and got a map and gave us direction will defiantly be dropping in again.

I went to The Alarm concert yesterday (or Mike Peters to be exact), but Electric Circus (the concert venue) had quite a dull selection of beers and the concert was long, so I popped across the street to Jake's for a quick bevvy. They had a great selection of craft beers, but seeing I had only time for a quick one, I asked to taste a few. The girl whom I now have forgotten the name of (shame on me) gave me the biggest tasters I've ever had in a pub before, and after three big shots, I had to rerurn to the concert. I was sorry that I had'nt the time to buy a beer as well, but she just smiled and seemed happy to be of service. I now have a new favourite bar in Edinburgh, and I know where I'll go and spend my money the next time I'm in town. Highly recomended!!!

The staff are wonderful. They made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. Shannon, Abby, Jess and Grant in particular were very helpful. I'll definitely be back.

We called here this afternoon the best place in edinbourgh so far no pushing no shoving, staff friendly and welcoming. Was able to sit down have a drink and chat. And the chicken tenderloins were lush

Tiene un ambiente más joven. Y la cerveza que nos pusieron (algo así como Old Dominion entendimos) estaba muy muy buena!

After visiting here I was really disappointed with the rest of the reviews on here as our experience was fantastic. Yeah, maybe the barman was a a bit "hipstery" but that's a very narrow minded was to judge your experience. The staff were very friendly and more than knowledgeable about the beers on offer. Also, they would allow you to sample any of the beers on draught before buying.Our food arrived quickly and the haggis fritters were out of this world!! We also had BBQ ribs (which fell off the bone) and chicken wings.We loved this place so much we had to talk ourselves out of going again the following day. We will definitely be back soon though!

When walking past I was tempted in by the American feel of the place. I was initially quite excited to see the selection of craft beers and a few different draft options, the barman seemed relatively knowledgeable but a little disinterested which I put down to it being a quiet Sunday evening.I ordered a couple of beers and found them to be quite expensive and no full pints are served just 2/3's which added to the high cost.I had a bar snack of haggis fritters which were delicious but at £5 again seemed quite pricey.It has potential but for the price I'd expect an awful lot more.

First stop off the train! Great beer selection (Oak Stout is particularly good) with passable bar food. Nice atmosphere throughout the day, and can get very busy in the evening. Expect city prices.

Great and interesting Boubon selection, expansive cask and independent beer selection. Nice small bites menu makes it great for a quick bite to eat. Their spicy fries are awesome. It's quite small and can get quite busy, due to Belushis and the hostel next door. But it is definitely one of the best places naer the Station to kill some time before your train.

Enter and greeted by Ms. Jack Wills herself (friendly and efficient staff) Place order for: two ‘Bourbon Burgers’… (£10 a pop)A mere 45 mins later, two water-tower-style burgers make their way to our “table” upon landing one capsizes - reminiscent of a disaster scene. With bloated bellies the travellers tear into their Bourbon Burgers and are suddenly bloody upon the deck. Their burgers laced with Chloroform (doubling as bourbon).Some time later, they regain consciousness and stumble to the bar. Ms. Wills issues the bill. Exit; plates half-full, weary and ill from their Wilfred Owen-type experience.Highly recommended.

Came with high hopes - thought this could be the first decent bar with imported American craft beer. Unfortunately, they had a very limited selection available, and when I asked what 'good, hoppy IPAs' they had, the bar woman laughed at me, and had no idea what a hop was. It would be completely understandable if it didn't advertise itself as a craft beer bar, but you expect the bar staff to at least know the basics of beer in a place like this, and the total lack of knowledge was pretty poor to be honest. The entire time we were there, she just sat on her phone, and the table was never cleared.Tried the food too, had the haggis, and it was average.Again, such a shame as I had high hopes, but unless this place improves, I will not be back.

Been here a few times now. They have a lot of nice craft beers which is a plus, but I could buy most of them from the off license for a fraction of the price and wouldn't have to put up with the pretentious condescending moustache that works behind the bar. Learn some customer service mate. Being a hipster, thinking you're amazing and treating your customers like they're lower than you won't cut it. Probably the reason why most of the clientele seem to be dregs of people passing by from the station. Won't be going back!
