Mamma Mia in New Forest

Shame so quiet, only customers. Chilly too.

Booked through the website for a Sunday evening. Clicked on reservation button at top of the website. Takes you straight to a Table Agent widget which takes your date, time, size of group. I then received a booking confirmation. However when we arrived the restaurant was shut and the hours advertised on the door was until 5pm - not as offered on the booking site. When I went in another day to highlight this issue, having left feedback via Table Agent and received no response I was disappointed to just hear that it was a fault of Table Agent and whilst the restaurant were sorry there was nothing they could do. Furthermore instead of showing interest and trying to engage me to book again for another day the staff member was just very dismissive which certainly doesn’t encourage me to try the restaurant another time.

Atmosphere very strange with no authentic, Italian feel. Food was average - the Mama Mia pizza was uncooked with cheap ingredients dumped on the top. Hardly any dessert choice. This place has a long way to go if it wants to become a staple Italian restaurant for the area. The drinks selection was also poor. I also want to add that the service was poor. No smile and always felt like an inconvenience. The staff prioritised a table towards the back of the restaurant (a group of men). This didn’t go unnoticed. I will not waste my time in coming here again and will make sure not to recommend to anyone locally.

Had a family celebration with 21 people. The planning with the manager and the chef was easy and the restaurant was very flexible. The meal went well, the food - pizza and pasta dishes all very enjoyable and enjoyed The service was great and we were made to feel special. All in all we had a great time in the restaurant.

First time visiting, starter of calamari was delicious but sadly that's where it ended, I ordered a seafood pizza, very meagre toppings, including just 2 prawns! Not as tasty as I would have thought either, the dough wasn't quite cooked and could have done with a bit longer. Eton mess was just cream with sauce and fruit, when asked about the meringue the waiter said it would have melted? Sadly no second visit for us!

Amazing food and really friendly staff . If you’re in the area i like Italian food pop in there. Highly recommended

We used there website to make a booking for the Christmas dinner as advertised on there website, then made the booking for the evening for 4 people, when we arrived they had our booking, but not the Christmas dinner as promised, when we asked the said, the website is not there website, it was the previous owners, but yet they still had our booking, just lies, we decided to stay and have Italian food instead, we watched the next table complaint about the lasagna being hard and dry, they couldn’t change it because it’s pre-made and all the same, so microwaved, we ordered 3 x sea food pasta, it had no tomato sauce in at all, it was like washing up water, full of broken mussel shell, cutting our mouths, really tasteless and frozen microwaved prawns 🍤 very hard and overcooked, we complained that 3 of us couldn’t eat it and they shrugged their shoulders, at the end we complained again, the best they could do was take 10% off the bill, it would seem that it must of just change ownership again, having visited 2 months ago and had a fantastic meal, it’s completely gone to the dogs, but even the dogs would not feed on that, we left hungry and £131 lighter in our pockets, avoid this place and visit the local Indian restaurant instead

The main course food was an absolute rip off. The lasagne had no meat sauce and had been reheated more than once and the chicken in the salad was old and dry.

We visited at lunchtime during mid-week. The food was good and well cooked with generous portions. The service was courteous and attentive but not intrusive. This was our first visit to this restaurant and we would definitely go again.

would give zero stars if i could. Apparently they have changed hands so this is for the new business here. Chef was useless, we could see them stood around doing nothing whilst waiting 2 hours for our main. Our starters were average and took an hour to come out. i ordered a caprize salad and i got three pieces of mozzarella and four bits of unripe tomato, other members of our party got the wrong food and the manager did nothing about it. Then after all this we waited over an hour for our mains for them all to be stone cold, we sent them back and they took random plates to microwave them and take back to random people. After this we tried to pay for starters we had eaten and then any drinks. The manager tried to argue with multiple people over their bills saying they needed to pay when the food was inedible. Felt so sorry for the servers as they were just trying to get food out but the chefs and manager were useless. 0/5 would not recommend

I’d say this is one of the most versatile restaurants in the area. Great with kids (food and service), great for couples, and nice with friends. Food is good and not overpriced, and the atmosphere is relaxed but professional.

Best pizza and pasta in hythe and southampton. Service was really friendly definitely recommended to everyone

Unexpected Surprise. Pizza and pasta night with friends. Mama Mia’s pizza turned out to be the best pizza we’ve had anywhere, worthy of a 5 star award on its own. And then the pasta; so well prepared and put together with just enough flavoured heat to make it count and not too much to take it too far. An outstanding meal all round. And, at £25 per head for pre-meal nibbles, main and sides and wine; quite the bargain. Well done guys, keep it going. Definitely on our Return To list.

Not great to be honest. I’ll start with the positives as it wasn’t completely terrible. The service was friendly and generally welcoming, the decor nice and the music was good. It’s a nice location and the food and drinks are reasonably priced. However, we were put off returning due to the fact that the kitchen would not accept a simple request to serve a salad with the dressing on the side. This is a simple request from a customer, not unreasonable and you would think easy to accommodate. Apparently not. Despite clearly telling two different members of the serving team the salad came out dressed in balsamic glaze. We asked for another salad, it returned to us wiped off, with messy fingerprints on the bowl. We naturally refused this and a fresh one was eventually bought to us, again with dressing on it! The chef would not grant our request. Quite unbelievable really considering how tough it is for hospitality at the moment. Add to this that the pizzas are dry and they had an open dirty bin on display close to the tables. These things are easy to solve, and this could be a really nice place to visit. However I’m not in a hurry to return. Sorry.

Popped in on a quite Monday evening and enjoyed a lovely bowl of olives followed by pasta will the staff were friendly and helpful. Will be returning.

We visited here yesterday as a family with a mixture of dietary requirements. The staff were very attentive and friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed. There is a large choice on the menu at very reasonable prices. When our food choices arrived, the portions were much larger than we had expected - I had to take half of my pizza away to finish off today (equally as tasty). Thank you for a lovely evening meal, we will definitely be back again.

After a miserable day looking for somewhere to eat we came across this lovely place who welcomed us in and gave us fantastic service and amazing food- generously portioned. We will definitely be going back

Took my mother for Mothers' Day. Love their pizza and antipasto cold cut meat and cheese starter.

Our first visit to Mamma Mia while on our annual holidays and it was brilliant. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent. We were a group of 8 (4 Adults; 4 kids) 3 had the carbonara and 5 pizzas. All bowls were emptied and we had to take the remaining pizza home as it was so yummy we didn't want to waste it. Proper Stone Baked bases and cooked in a traditional pizza oven. I have to say, it was one of the best I have had in a long time. Not a huge menu but who cares...the choices were excellent - definitely recommend it and will go again next year during our hols.

Meal for 2 really good and the price too. 2 x beer 2 x wine starter to share an 2 x mains. £60 can't argue with that.

The food was of a reasonable standard. Overpriced for what it is. The cured meats board was a waste of money - just a few olives and bits of pepperoni on a limp salad. The beer in draft was a cloudy colour. It tasted ok. The interior felt dirty and there is only one toilet for the whole restaurant that was dirty. When we came out of the restaurant, we met some interesting clientele going upstairs, what I can only assume was owned by the same company. It didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant at all! The place felt cheap, especially with pictures of drunken customers repeatedly appearing on the screens. The service was average. Plates were being cleared whilst people were eating which was incredibly rude. The staff also slammed the food down on the table. When it was time to pay, the man taking the payments was rude and didn’t thank anyone for their custom. I will not return to this overpriced and overrated place. it’s a real shame, the food is lovely but i have never been so insulted by a delivery driver in my life … i live in Lepe in the watch house so not the easiest house to find i understand. I called in advance to let them know what the house looks like and where it’s situated. Anyway long story short the driver shouted at me was abusive and said it was my fault he couldn’t find the house and that they don’t even deliver as far out as lepe. if that’s the case they need to sort out they’re just eat account, that’s not on me… I hope no one else has the misfortune of meeting this gentleman and even though the food is lovely i will never order or in eat at Mama Mias again.

What a treat, food was delicious, staff were quick and friendly. Had a lovely evening and will definitely be going there again. And the honey, honey cocktail was amazing. Definitely recommend Mamma Mia

My first visit to this restaurant and it was brilliant. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent. I had the spaghetti carbonara and I have to say, it was one of the best I have had in a restaurant. Limited menu but the choices were excellent - definitely recommend it and will go again in the future.

Lovely restaurant, Service was so great, waitresses were so friendly, helpful and regularly checked in on us to see if we were OK. Drinks were amazing Food was amazing Can not fault anything Best bit we didn't even plan to go in as we were looking for a med bar, which was upstairs they both share the same main way in. Welcomed quickly. And so happy with everything. Will be back!

Was fairly busy with some large groups, 2 waitresses but only one doing the running around, other one looked like she didn't want to be there!!! There was no conversation or interaction from her at all!!! Service from the worker was brilliant and all the family loved the food, luckily as a family we have a good sense of humour but well done to the professional waitress We had been before and everything was perfect which is why we came back with family!!!

I'm really really sorry😔 for I'm so late to post this well deserved review for this restaurant Me and my family surprised my Dad on his 75th birthday on the 19th of April, we drove from Basingstoke to Hythe as we heard alot about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try prior booking and told it's dad's birthday and we were least expecting it to surprise us, Warm welcome from Manager Mike and his caring team they simply made it special, we had some good cocktails and the chef's were on top of that with amazing starters to the mains oh and if you happen to make it there which you will, do try the spaghetti seafood that is mouthwatering good💯 Dad loved the whole experience so did we🎉 Guys keep up the good work, the experience from strat to finish was excellent will definitely visit again.

Visited with friends on Friday evening. Quite busy and nice atmosphere. Ordered a pint of draught beer, "sorry out of draught but have bottled" so ordered a bottle, sadly no large bottles so had a small. Friends have small appetite so we ordered main course only, which they enjoyed. My wife had lasagne which came with a side salad and garlic bread, she enjoyed her meal. I ordered the seafood spaghetti which was the most expense meal on the menu. When it arrived it was quite tasty but the seafood consisted of the smallest items of seafood in terms of size and quantity. It consisted of one small muscle, two small pieces of calamari and three small prawns plus one larger prawn in it's shell for garnish. I had another small beer, the two beers cost £9.60, which I found rather expensive for about a pint. In spite of many good reviews I will not be returning

This restaurant having recently changed to an Italian and given our love of pizza and pasta we were keen to try it out. The reviews have been very good and so we had high expectations and we were not disappointed. The prawn starter is to due for, 4 giant succulent prawns served in a beautiful garlic butter sauce. We also chose the quattro fromange pizza and the mamma mia pizza. They are massive, full of flavour and ooze Italian authenticity. There was enough for is to take home in the box kindly provided so we had a second meal later 😍 Arti, the lovely kind lady who served us and is one of the managers, was a complete delight. All in all a delightful afternoon and we shall be returning again soon to try a pasta dish!

Loved everything about my visit here, food was amazing with decent sized portions. Full of flavour, loved the garlic bread and pizza! Atmosphere was great and the staff were witty and very friendly. Would definitely go back here and highly recommend, best Italian in the area I think.

We were kept waiting at the front desk, then they seated the people who came in after us first. 🤷‍♀️ We asked for the salad dressing on the side. Didn’t happen and no apology. One meal arrived very late, most of us had finished eating....

Empty place unfriendly management more concerned about tablets booked later on

Booked a meal there on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full. Had to wait to be seated. Meal was very nice, but there was a few mistakes with the service of it. After our main meal we were sat drinking and thinking about what pudding we were going to have, when we were approached and asked if we would mind finishing our drinks at the bar. The bar area was packed and there were no seats available, so we would have to stand. We were not asked if we wanted pudding. We decided to drink up and leave. The table was booked for 2 hrs and we were sat there for 1.5 hrs. We felt very rushed. Also they asked on their website if we were going for a special occasion, it was my birthday and this was not even acknowledged. Lovely food but let down by the rest of the experience.

Dreadful service waited over a hour for food no apologies and could not even serve correct drinks. Manager not very understanding or apologetic. Would not rush back or even recommend.
