We had an absolutely fantastic birthday dinner here, and it matches or exceeds everywhere we ate on our holiday in Italy this year! The service was relaxed but very attentive, and the sommelier was superb, matching wines perfectly to our dishes. Each dish was faultless, from the gnocchi to the veal, paired with a wonderful glass of pinot noir. If we lived in the area we would eat here all the time!

Lovely welcome, great service, exceptional tasty starters but the main was a complete let down, which spoilt, what started off as something quite amazing. The sharing steak which appeared after an extremely long wait was presented on a plain white cheap looking plate and it was “not good”. It lacked flavour and was a struggle to eat. If it wasn’t for the peppercorn sauce and roasted garlic we would have left the whole lot. For £120 it should have had the ‘wow’ factor, but sadly it failed. It was so bad that I couldn’t even face having a dessert and I did actually ask to have the meat boxed up so I could take it home for my dogs. We did explain politely how let down we felt and they were very quick to take the steak meal off our bill which we were very grateful for. The waitress was also very lovely, accommodating and non-judgemental. However I am not sure we would risk going back, which is a shame, because it all started off so well.

We have stayed at Limewood a few times before and always found it a beautiful hotel that offers a magical experience, and we remember loving this restaurant. However, on our recent visit we found it severely wanting. Before our dinner it took a lifetime to get an overpriced cocktail (£18+ service) in the adjoining bar. It shouldn't take around 20 minutes for a cocktail. This was despite the bar area being virtually empty and there being a gaggle of staff loitering by the edge of the bar (which seems to be a constant theme here). Our meal was a depressingly underwhelming experience. The starters are obscenely priced. In what possible world is it an acceptable amount to charge more than £20 for a chicken croquette? We asked for some bread and butter and out came focaccia with salami, which we had not ordered; nor do we eat pork. We were then told it wouldn’t come with butter (or olive oil for that matter), but either salami or – despite being an Italian influenced restaurant – hummus (a Middle Eastern dip, last time I checked) and mushroom pate. It came back out with the hummus and mushroom pate. Both were pretty revolting; the hummus was particularly gross and had an awful texture. The evening continued to go downhill from there. At one point the server knocked the bread on our table with his hand while putting out cutlery (and acted as if it hadn't happened); the sommelier rolled his eyes when I said I had already ordered a glass of house red with his colleague; and then the mains came out…The mains, the mains, the mains… My wife ordered pasta that came drowning in a very salty and olive oil-heavy watery broth. It wasn’t nice and cost something like £38. I got the veal, which was a perfectly okay plate of food, but so obscenely priced at £49 that it was hard not to sit there feeling incredibly gaslit (NB: the sample menu online lists a version of this dish at £42). It was four thin strips of veal. At that price I had (perfectly reasonably) assumed I would be getting an entire veal chop. I wish we had known there was a separate bar menu that was accessible for restaurant diners, as we watched plates of burgers come out for other guests. This menu seems to be priced for a normal universe. Living pretty centrally in London, we eat at a lot of nice places (without sounding horribly pretentious), but I cannot ever remember such a mismatch between what was served and the cost of it. It was gaslighting pricing. In short: we felt horribly done. The desert menu felt even more obscene: £18 for tiramisu; £10 for some ice cream. When I mentioned this to the waiter, hoping he was going to explain the ice cream was some super special homemade gelato with some incredible ingredients or something, he got incredibly defensive. (I assume this was because it is Jude’s ice cream or something else basic like that with an unjustifiably gross mark-up.) I felt so put out, ripped off and uncomfortable sitting there, that I asked to settle up at the till and walked out. It was a totally ruined evening. Without the Limewood name attached, this restaurant would not survive charging such prices anywhere else while serving such average food and providing such shoddy service. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

The setting is spectacular and certainly made the visit worth our while. When we arrived 15 minutes before 6pm, the woman who escorts guests to their tables told us that we couldn't have cocktails and that we should go to our table immediately. We didn't comply and ordered cocktails, which were very good. Until she came back and ordered us to our table. Reason given: we had to be out after 2 hours. So we had to carry our drinks to our table in a more than half empty restaurant. Not the best start of the evening, I guess. The food was good, with some erratic elements. My delicate fish was covered with a white sauce and I'm still trying to answer the "why" question. My wife had white beans in her starter and main, and we're unsure of the underlying concept, because where we escaped from, white beans are fed to pigs. The Pouilly-Fuissé was a bit sour and that's quite an achievement because we drink this a lot at home and we never had one as ordinary as this. I also wondered why I was laughed at when I was brought a bourbon - that was much better value for money compared to e.g. the Yamazaki or the Scottish regulars. Having said that, the other members of staff did a great job and we would be happy to give the restaurant another try.

We had high hopes for this restaurant, what a disappointment. Shockingly poor food for the price. The tone was set when we were served bread and ham on a board. One was gluten free, which consisted of two doorstep pieces of GF bread and ham, no oil, nothing. If the chef had ever tried to get just one mouthful of that down without choking, it would be a miracle as GF bread is notoriously dry. I thought chef’s were supposed to taste everything. Red mullet with GF pasta followed which was also incredibly dry. The tomato risotto was swimming in olive oil, certainly not how the Italians serve it. Didn’t bother with any other courses. Don’t waste your money.

Was really looking forward to this - started well with a warm greeting and a reserved table. But then started to go downhill with slow service, wine in a cooler miles away and not a waiter or sommelier in sight. Obnoxious clientele and kids running everywhere spoiling everything for people who are paying a pretty significant sum of money for their adequate lunch. Risotto was too lemony and not well balanced, the sea bream was offensive - salty soupy ‘sauce’, unattractive piece of fish on top of a bowl of salty slop. Little gem, garden peas and crab - should have been light and delicious! Was awful. I told the waiter at the end of the meal and it didn’t get any comment. Tiramisu was average, gelato came with wafers out of a box. Obnoxious table (who treated the place like their own private garden) finally left, peace at last! No, some god awful band started up. Just don’t bother. It’s put me off trying anywhere else in the group.

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a meal here. From the moment we arrived James made us feel very welcome. From the initial arancini all the way through to the anniversary plate he arranged for us made it perfect. The gnocchi was so light that it melted in my mouth and beat the gnocchi I had in a Michelin Starred restaurant in Rome. The setting of the restaurant and the friendly nature of the staff created a very relaxing environment in which to enjoy a wonderful evening. Thank you and I hope to see you again soon.

Wow wow wow! After eating at The Pig the night before we were desperate for some good food. This place did not disappoint! It’s very rare you come across a restaurant where each dish is full of flavour. We struggled to pick our top dish at the end of the night. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating given the fact that I was pregnant. They made changes to the menu without having to ask just to make sure it was pregnancy safe. The saffron arancini pre starter was a flavour bomb. The homemade focaccia was some of the best focaccia I’ve ever had, salty crispy edges with the fluffiest centre. The portwood asparagus starter was unique but unseasoned - once seasoned it was everything you want from a starter. Super fresh, zingy, salty and sweet. I liked the fact that you could order half a portion of main. I’m a big foodie that likes to try everything but hates wasting food. My half portion of pasta was the perfect amount. I was able to finish it with just enough room for pudding. The Limewood Hotel is a stunning hotel, we arrived 30mins before our meal to walk to grounds. Staff welcomed us and didn’t make you feel out of place. We were able to enjoy the sun, grounds and atmosphere before being sat down at the bar. Staff were very observant without being pushy or in your face. They kept a close eye on us to ensure we were ready to move into the dinning room, allowing us to sit past our booking window. Highly recommended and will definitely be coming back.

Booked dinner here because we wanted to sample Angela Hartnett away from Murano which is a favourite. We were not disappointed. The Hotel itself is beautiful and has been styled by someone with a great eye for colour and Art. The staff are charming and unstuffy - and many in number! We were seated in the Scullery which had caused some confusion at the booking stage, suggesting a more relaxed experience and a different menu, but this is not the case and the menu is the same in all areas. But, no complaints about that as the food was excellent. The Amalfi lemon risotto was one of the best I have tasted, and the veal was rich, tender and completely yummy. There was a lovely relaxed ambience helped by the fact that along with couples young and not so young, there were families with children clearly having a good time. There were a couple of minor niggles mainly to do with the fact that in spite of an abundance of staff there seemed to be only one waiter responsible for the whole room which meant that water glasses were not re filled or wine not topped up - as I say minor- and the waiter concerned was perfectly charming. I look forward to returning.

We’re really big fans of Murano Mayfair and love Angela’s cuisine, so it was with great anticipation that we sashayed down to Hampshire to dine at Hartnett, Holder & Co. We were delighted that we’d decided to do so because the food was faultless, the ambiance charming and the service impeccable. My companion professed her risotto starter to be “exquisite” and my courgette flower was perfect. Our rose veal mains were quite faultless and delicious and the accomplishment of the cooking was admirable. The Lime Wood Hotel is a 5* hotel with a very relaxed ambiance which extends into H, H & Co and the staff are highly efficient but friendly, warm and welcoming at the same time. This is an excellent place to lunch/dine, the hotel is lovely with the setting in the New Forest idyllic.

We were giving the restaurant another go after a poor meal there pre covid. We thought it must have been an ‘off day’ then and it deserved a second try. Wish we hadn’t bothered today. Positives - service was fine if a little slow at times. Restaurant is a pleasant place to dine with nice views of the gardens. Negatives - burrata was so salty it was sent back. Chicken burger from the bar menu was soggy and wet so went back uneaten. We skipped dessert as out of 2 courses a meal went back from each. I can only assume this restaurant survives from the captive audience of hotel guests.

A really beautiful location and associated with many happy memories for myself and my partner. It's a pity we didn't really enjoy ourselves this time: food was mostly competent, but often had some flaw that spoiled the dish - the monkfish, for example, was salty beyond belief, and the duck leg overdone. For the prices being charged, one would expect these misses to be caught. Parts were well executed, but other parts felt like after-thoughts. As a whole, the dishes seemed designed for aesthetics rather than taste. Certainly looked pretty, but the dishes didn't really come together as a whole. Drinks menu was inferior to last year, but the drinks themselves were still good - just a little more limited in terms of adventurousness. Otherwise, service seemed a little distracted, but friendly. No faults there. Put simply, prices at Michelin star levels, food simply not.

Extremely Enjoyable Lunch- first time at Limewood and having been underwhelmed at the pig Studland, I was somewhat trepedatios. I needn’t have worried. The food was full of flavour, especially the salmon and rhubarb starter and the rhubarb sweet. We actually went to have the fixed lunch menu, but actually only had one course from that menu, the rest from Al a Carte. Very filling and the service was exemplary. Minor negative, car parks all full. So we had a trek upto restaurant, with all the land on the estate, this really needs addressing. However focusing on the food 10/10 and with prices similar to Rick Steins, this restaurant serves proper flavours cooked onsite.

Good food, excellent service but the food was not quite up to 5 stars for me. Slightly disappointed in the odd dish. Fantastic Carpaccio of Venison with Anchovy & Wild Garlic sauce. Most other dishes very good but too much runny sauce with the roasted Monkfish (excellent fish) and needed to be richer or have something with it to mop up the sauce. The Custard Tart pastry was overcooked and the custard was too runny. A good meal but not fantastic

This was our first visit to Limewood and booked the fixed price lunch £45.00 per person in the Hartnett and Holder restaurant. It was very nice and the staff were generally welcoming, apart from our bearded male waiter, who wasn’t particularly friendly. The first course and dessert were excellent and reasonably sized. But the main course of pork chop that we both had, was a joke. It was minute, with one small potato, one mushroom and no vegetables and (if you do the maths), priced at c. £ 26 - 28. We have experienced small portion sizes with “nouvelle cuisine” before, but this was the most blatant example of poor value for money in a relatively expensive restaurant. See the attached photo of this main course. It was a shame, because the visit would have otherwise been a nice experience.

I often have trouble accepting that I could have easily cooked the meal at home and not spent a huge amount of money but no way in a month of Sundays could I or anyone I know have prepared such a delightful feast. On top of the quality of the food was the customer service, special thanks to James and especially Feebka (please excuse my spelling) who made my birthday treat so very special. (Special mention to Ellie who has great people skills, and the sommelier. They stock some unusual wines) However also another special mention for the bar menu at lunch in the hotel. Many hotels have great restaurants but poor lunch or bar menus. HH and Co serve a delightful menu.

Booked Limewood for my brother 70th Birthday, we were a group of 8 plus a baby aged 8 months., We were all looking forward to something special. Our entrees took 1 hour and 15 mins to turn up, then main course was very slow to follow, waiter kept missing filling up one of the guest glass whenever he came around to top glasses, dishes served before everyone had their cutlery. Had to attract the waiter's attention to make the initial order of drinks and to take the meal order and even to clear table and take dessert order! he kept making apologies for the slow service. We were given a bottle of wine to try and make up for the slow service, but I am afraid the 70th birthday lunch was ruined , 3 and half hours for a 3 course lunch, some of us only had 2, a free bottle of wine did not make up the experience. All a bit stressful even when you have a well behaved baby. Real disappointment , we will struggle to encourage family and friends to go to this venue. A great shame as food itself was good.

Maybe I over expected!? We joined friends for Sunday lunch. We were so looking forward to a ‘Limewood experience’. Surely a roast would be one of the best there?! Not so. The starter haddock fritters were too salty, the gazpacho had rock hard croutons, the roast potatoes could not get a knife into let alone a fork, affogato was served in a dish with a jug of expression. I am not usually overly critical but having been bought up in a catering family with a successful restaurant, I have some idea of how food should be especially at high end prices. We have had better roasts at a local pub. This is the second time my partner has purchased a voucher for a lunch for two, to donate to a charity auction. This time it was won by friends who thought it would be nice for us to join them. So disappointing, unfortunately. My partner and I have previously had poor experience pre pandemic, when we had a below standard english breakfast, a revisit was offered but lockdown hit and we did not think fair to request post lockdown. Such a shame, we love the venue but have had better food elsewhere/ at home!

Nearly 40 minutes after being seated we received drinks, an hour for the starter (which I had to send back), a messed up receipt (again!), and service added (we had no intention of leaving a tip after the experience but were too English to ask for it to be removed). For context, we’ve eaten here at least 15-20 times over the years but sadly this may have been the last.

What an amazing and delicious experience. The menu is extensive and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. You can mix and match the courses suiting what you would like to eat. We had starters of cured bass and porcini risotto followed by lemon sole and veal with coco di paimpol beans. We did use google to find out some ingredients but the waitress was extremely helpful when we asked what “local yellow legs” was (mushrooms apparently!!) my only complaint would be that The lemon sole was served just in its own with seaweed butter - delicious but I think it should have had an accompaniment and I should have been advised of that when ordering. Desserts were polenta and pistachio cake served with masala plum and ice cream. Expensive but worth every penny for the experience, the choices, and the taste

Line Wood “used” to be special but is now much more “mainstream”. Impressive building but decor / service / food is on a par with the Ivy. Serious parking problems when you have to walk circa 500 yards from a “field”! Pleased it was not cold or raining and my wife was wearing flat shoes! We’d looked at menus in advance and I was attracted to the small plate menu (had to ask for it as it was not offered)? Service was nothing special, lacked “warmth” with a 12.5% service charge too! We are unlikely to return until the parking issues are resolved (and no, we were not offered valet parking!).

The car park is not too far away but could be a problem if cold or rainy; drop off at the door is offered. A newly rebuilt hotel on site of a 18th century country residence now also has a restaurant. The place has an ambience of old world sophistication; sumptuously decorated and furnished it has plenty of different spaces and facilities for all types of escapes. The lunch was delicious but horrendously and eye-wateringly expensive. The wine list is extensive but nice to see a good representation of English sparkling wines - equally overpriced. Service and the staff were outstanding. Nice to have been but not again.

We had a lovely dinner in food and wine terms, but the service for this grade of restaurant and in contrast to the rest of the hotel was really poor. The staff were clearly untrained and the restaurant manage was totally ineffectual, being both incapable of engaging customers as well as his staff. He could be seen floating around avoiding interaction with his staff who were all at sea. The waiter was trying his best telling us this was his second year and he liked meeting customers, but clearly had been poorly trained. He split the wine at each pouring. He had no idea he should be preemptive at pouring wine or water. The wine waiter was clearly not a sommelier and had poor training, having no real understanding of wine when asked. He proceeded to put the wine bucket 30 ft away hidden behind a bush . So staff had to go searching for it each time we had to ask for a top upBreakfast showed a lovely buffet but asking for anything brought delays…. 20 minutes and asking twice to get gluten free toast which was clearly from a packet so no baking time needed. Our breakfast cooked plates were grabbed from us while I was eating my toast from one. The waitress arrived and said “what do you want “…. Another arrived saying “ who wants the coffee”… again social interaction was lacking training for a hotel in this price range . The outside covered terrace was lovely, but the sandstone floor was covered in black marks from food stains and had clearly not been cleaned since the canopy was put up

You just can't beat lunch outdoors at Limewood on a sunny day, especially at the moment when you need to book well in advance to get a table ... it's a real treat!Loved the fresh herbs and delicate salad dressing ... takes a green side salad to another level. The lemon tart was zesty and full of flavour, luckily we shared dessert as it was plenty for 2. Booked lunch again in September... just hope scallops are still on the menu ... they're the best we've ever eaten!

We have visited Limewood restaurant for the last 5 years to celebrate my birthday with friends. We have decided not to bother again as it has deteriorated. Last year we were concerned with hygiene as there were remnants of breakfast on our lunch table and the service was poor. This year we were very disappointed that the fixed price lunch menu is no longer offered yet it was still on the website when we booked. The service was disappointing as we waited ages then were served some antipasti and our starters in quick succession. A couple of friends had the lamb which was tough and fatty and they had to send it back. Hard to believe when they charge £32 for it. The crab tart starter was delicious but overall we found the food disappointing especially as the prices have increased so much! Not worth the money anymore. In the past we have had petit four with coffee but alas no more. A real shame that standards have fallen as we like the place so much. Definitely living on past glory.

We went here on one of our date nights, we are checking out the restaurants in the local area having just moved to ringwood, this restaurant seemed to be the one with least people in and that was for a reason. We were greater and sat down ordered a drink each. All ok. I went to order a main lasagne to be told it’s not available but was not told this before. We had a goats cheese and beetroot salad type thing to start - this was literally beetroot from a can with a slab of goats cheese on top and some spinach.. it was ok but not the best We also ordered garlic bread- considering this is an Italian I would expect more than 2 slices of tiger bread cut in half and some garlic butter on it… The main courses were not good at all, we couldn’t eat them.. both pasta dishes. No one asked us how our meals were, even though we asked for the bill with plates for. It was clear it’s a struggling restaurant so we paid in full. The pizzas maybe better as there was another table in there who seemed happy
