Mambos in Northumberland

Intrigued by Greek/Mediterranean vibe we booked Mambos for an early evening dinner. Reception staff showed us to a table in a largely empty restaurant and we ordered drinks, wine, mains and desserts and coffees afterwards. The waiter / waitress were really friendly and swift. The food was good and served hot, although due to the questionable orange/pink neon lighting, the chicken appeared perfectly no and uncooked. Note: it probably was cooked, only in appearance it was off-putting. Dessert and coffees were also nice. But here is the rub: for the first time in any restaurant on any continent, myself and partner were asked to vacate the table and finish our drinks at the bar while the restaurant remained with many empty seats. Poor management decision! I took back our generous cash tip from the bill wallet before leaving with great disappointment and will never return. Shame on you. You have good efficient people, good food and drink, but poor management decisions do not encourage local return business.

Lamb Tagine was disgusting it was full of chick peas and apricots it had very little lamb in it. I think there must have been a full tube of tomato purée in it as that’s all it tasted of. No reaction when I told staff it was not good and was just tomato purée, she just said that’s the way they always make it. Won’t go back

Clean, friendly with great service and food. 3 rd time I've had Sunday lunch, chosen a different meat each time and not been disappointed. Well cooked and plenty of it. Good voice of veg on the side as well as mash and roast on the plate with a large perfect Yorkshire pudding . Desserts are top class as well, I usually have cheesecake which changes at the chefs choice.

Service was poor waited ages for drinks then ages to take order, prawns were raw, Halloumi sat on the side waiting for the other starters to be cooked therefore was like rubber , chicken kebabs were like processed chicken, the steak was chewy and very over cooked. We ordered truffle mayo which we didn't get . Not nice at all.

Had a great night at Mambo’s Lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend.

First thing to say is the food is good at Mambos. We were promptly sat at our table and asked if we would like to order drinks soon after. We then ordered and went straight for the main course to possibly leave room for a dessert. The main course came and was very nice but once we were finished and our plates were taken away, there was no offer of dessert menus. Around 45 mins later and fed up with being ignored, we asked for the bill. We asked if they actually did desserts and when the waitress said they did, the she said they did and they were still available but we said it had gone past the time where we still wanted one and just settled the bill. Shame really and rather spoiled the day.

Had a lovely evening celebrating my in-laws Golden Wedding Anniversary. We went for the 2 course special. Amazing, tasty food with really good size portions. Staff were so friendly & really helped make the evening lovely. Many thanks Mambos!

Worst ever visit to a restaurant... What has happened to Mambos in Ponteland? Last Sunday booked a late lunch with family which we were so looking forward to as it is a place we visit regularly. Placed in the booth under the blossom without asking, drinks orders were taken immediately and served which was great, then started to place orders... this is where it all went wrong. We ordered 3 beef and 1 pork, to be told that there was no beef or lamb left! The place wasn't even as full as normal. So quick change to 3 Chicken. Meals arrived and looked wonderful with huge Yorkshire puddings, a little sparse on the gravy we noted but no worries. I started tucking in and then argh... the chicken was not cooked... without a doubt raw in the middle. Husband had already started eating his without realising but stopped immediately. I called the waiter over... his manner was questionable, he did not look pleased and took all the plates away without a word... and NO APOLOGY. Veg dishes were all removed too as well as the pork dish. we waited a further 10 mins and saw other sunder roast dinners being served and were pleased to see our dishes returning to us in good time. Still NO APOLOGY. When they were put down we all noticed straight away that the chicken was not as previously served as a 'flattened' breast and had charcoaled score marks across it all, obviously cooked on a grill of some form. The whole meal had also been smothered in gravy. We were starving and started to tuck in, but the flavour of the chicken was more BBQ than roast (we guessed it would be by its appearance), two of us could not eat it as the taste was too much and certainly not a Sunday roast meal. We should have brought it to the attention of the staff immediately but we were too polite and said nothing... 'stupidly'. However, I politely said to the 'aloof' waiter when he came to the table - he was so rude and displeased with my comments. I pointed out to him what I had just described and he started to challenge me about the whole situation. He said that the chef had made sure the chicken was cooked! I asked if I could speak to the chef and the waiter walked away. He did not return to the table and neither did the chef make an appearance. However, within minutes a male in a black apron and hat appeared out of the kitchen and started 'gesticulating towards our table' and using abusive 'F' word language... we were under the impression that this was directed towards us... the female manager later denied this when we ended up having a heated discussion with her a short time later when we said that we would not be paying for our meals (which I have NEVER done in my life). She said that we had eaten the food and had to pay, even after everything was repeatedly explained to her. We paid our drinks bill which was one round of drinks for 4 which included a soft drink of £23, which we felt was an insult considering the whole experience and potential health issues that could have followed if we had eaten the raw chicken. The whole handling of the situation, the attitude of the staff, the foul language of a staff member, and the failure to even offer an apology for the initial food situation were disgraceful. Something has changed in Mambos of late and I don't know what is going on, it is sad as we have so enjoyed our time since they opened eating at a local restaurant and supported local businesses during COVID lockdowns with regular takeaway orders. But we will never be returning to this restaurant again.

Lovely inside however the noise levels were off the scale. So loud! That was just everyone's voices, you couldn't have a conversation without shouting. Not sure if it's the low ceiling, wooden floor. Had to ask for drinks and quite a wait for orders to be taken. All starters were lovely, really tasty. The wait for main course was unacceptable. Our table was booked for 8pm, our main course arrived 10pm by which time the table next to us were playing drinking games. Not great when you're trying to enjoy your meal. Food was excellent apart from steak and lamb were more than well done which was a shame as the rest was really lovely.

This is my favorite place in Ponteland along side YOLO.(Cocktail bar)daughters 21st party private balcony room)2024. Arrived at 2pm on a Sat afternoon . Nice starter, terrible overcooked inedible steak. Ordered medium rare and was served a medium well which was burnt in appearance.. when brought to staff attention was initially told it was cooked over charcoal. Even another of my parties well done steak was not burnt like mine.. first and last time unfortunately..

Best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time! The roast beef was tender, gravy, amazing, a good selection of fresh vegetables with a huge Yorkshire pudding. Two friends had the burger and one had roast pork, they said it was delicious. Men had puddings. The portions were generous, so two between four wax ample. Husband declared the sticky toffee pudding to be really nice. The menu is small but offers something for everyone. Ambience is nice. It’s modern and tables well spaced so while it was busy it didn’t feel crowded. We will be back!

Just gorgeous food and definitely not your run of the mill restaurant. Great staff and they do the most amazing cocktails. Try the French Martini . I have been here l ads of times I think it is my favourite restaurant.... Ever! ... it is quite expensive but definitely worth every penny. There's one in south Shields but I've heard it's not as good. Never been so I can't comment I hope the ponteland manbos never closes!

Very good food, service and ambience. I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly if visiting the area. My garlic mushrooms were the best I’ve enjoyed for sometime. Steaks were excellent. Loved the Primitivo.

We visited here to one evening to celebrate. The restaurant was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening. We were sat promptly and served drinks. Service from start to finish was very good. The Menu is varied but excellent. I had the slider burger and a seafood skewer. Both excellent. And for the quality the price is cheap . The restaurant is also very pleasing on the eye. Cant recommend highly enough.

The venue is beautiful and the food is amazing! Every time we have been, we have ordered something different and it is always a taste sensation. Today I had a seafood linguine and it was definitely the best I have had in Newcastle. The staff are extremely attentive and the atmosphere is so relaxed, I felt like I was on holiday. Previously we have been with our children and the menu has ensured they are well catered for. Recommended for all occasions!

Absolutely fantastic, there was 12 of us and nothing was a problem. Food was delicious and very varied, service fantastic and just a really really lovely place.

30 min after this visit myself and another member of the party were violently ill. I had seafood. I do not blame Mambos, sometimes it's the risk tou take eating shellfish. However, the customer service when reporting this has been appalling. You can't leave a review on Facebook now which in itself is very telling. So this review is not because I was very poorly, its the totally lack of empathy, customer service and no apology.

Afternoon free, so popped in with my wife, lunchtime menu, I order the pork and chorizo sausage, I have to say, this was wonderful, flavourful and juicy, my wife ordered the mushroom toast, I tasted and this was also stunning in flavour, my main was a burger and skin on fries, my burger was just ok, infact it was a little dry, the chips were a little thick and personally would be more enjoyable cut thinner, the burger sits on a little chopping board, stop with this please, my wife ordered the Calzone, she enjoyed and it was delicious, but a lot of pizza base to get through, we enjoyed our experience and will return, Waiters deserved the tip.

Worst meal and even worse staff. Food was awful and similar to that of a greasy takeaway. Had 6 different members of staff try to take our order, repeatedly coming over then standing watching us eat. It was very awkward and expensive. Won’t go back here or try their new venue across the road.
