Mama's Indian Takeaway in Cardiff

Not normally one to complain and also usually love this place, but nothing on my order were up to standards. most of it ended up in the bin. one curry tipped in bottom of bag, the other mostly oil, naans very dry and over cooked, chips seem like from yesterday. such a shame at the drop in standards since the last time we ordered, wouldn't of minded the food being late.. but really it just wasn't worth it. disappointed is an understatement.

Some really good tasting curry and good prices

unfortunately the curries spilt out of the containers and were inedible. I think you should use more stable containers. the starters were very nice and the nans were lovely and luckily I cut some extra salad as restaurants never give enough all you guys gave were some lettuce leaves I think there were 5 pieces (for 4 starters!!) but you did give some onion stuff which was ok and 2 mint sauces again not enough for the amount of starters ordered. but I may actually order again what we did eat nice

The food was undercooked and they gave me 2 wrong cans

Bit disappointed today. Samosa missing to begin. All the other items were very nice, apart from the chicken in the tikka . It was poor, and if Im honest, I dont think it was freshly cooked. Have left really good reviews for this place before, so sad to be doing this today.

£12.95 for 4 prawns, hardly any meat in currys. Gave them a second chance but won't use again

My partner ordered food last night, we order from here all the time for an Indian. Our food was t the hottest, but ok. We both ordered different dishes, I woken up at 4am this morning really poorly. Even until this time right now. I’m very disappointed and I do think a refund should be issued. Won’t be ordering from here for a while.

The best indian food in all of Wales.

The food came too early. It wasn’t very hot and quality was mixed. There was much more sauce than chicken in the main dishes and the raita was thrown away as it was watery and looked terrible. All in all disappointing and won’t be ordering from here again.

Delicious and tasty food, lots of it and excellent value

Disappointed as asked for No onion on mix grill, come with loads of onion, asked for Quarter breast and come with Leg and simply asked could I have a coconut naan and come with plain one. So all 3 requests were failed and spoilt the food if I’m honest.

The food was awful and neither meal tasted as it should. Two of us didn't eat it and the two that did suffered pains and diarrhoea. They actually get 0 stars

If I could choose zero stars I would. Can’t even comment as the food was paid for but never arrived. 2 hours and no sign. Customers paying and then not receiving anything is theft. Absolutely unacceptable.

I waited 2 hours and my food just didn’t turn up

A really awful meal. We ordered a 3 different mains. All of them had the consistency of soup. About one third of the chicken you’d expect. No vegetables or onions in the curries - just watery sauce and a few bits of chicken. The bag of chips was tiny - again about a third of what you’d expect. Naans were doughy and not nice. We were given free onion and cauliflower Bajis - they were ok but honestly would have preferred more chicken. Will never go back as this seems to be the way it is all the time based on other reviews. It’s not worth the risk.

Absolutely delighted by the food and hospitality of the owners! I ate chicken biriyani from them and that was special! I was missing my home country and the food and cordiality of the owner's of the takeaway reminded me of my home! Excellent for both the halal and vegetarian food seekers! Thank you so much!

Absolutely disgusting still waiting for our food over two and a half hours. Will not ever order from these again. Phoned them several times to be told it is on its way. The woman I spoke with really didn't care what was happening and offered me £3 to be taken off my next order. What an absolute joke. There will never be a next time. Oh by the way .... food was cold chips had a handful in bag which didn’t mind as they were hardly cooked poppadoms all broken up keema naan was broken up an more like a slab of bread normal like this place but after tonight will not be ordering again shocking

That delivery driver I would like to give credit to! I really have had really bad and tough 2 days with mental health and soon as I went over to him and spoke on the phone he was so polite and so respectful to the point I came back in and teared up! He needs to keep up the good work! I would love to do a full review but it only gives me 500 words! This driver has made my night it's like he knew there was something up with me. What a lovely man he was! He made sure I was ok and everything and s!

An hour late, most of the food was cold, naan bread was rock solid, rice was soggy and overcooked. The mains were ok once re-heated. The paneer was good. The chicken was very dry.

Had a byriani, plain curry sause tasted like weak chicken soup.. chicken tikka madras.,(hot in flavour but no taste) full of onions as so was the garlic rice, onion chutney was literally just white onion chopped in a pot 🫣 keema nam orderd and got given a plain. Meat was VERY dry, Onion bajis must have came straight out of the fridge! Ice cold❄️ Ordered online to to told by company after wait that they don't do mamas anymore. Went to collect and there card machine wasn't working... Had to look for cash machine..(found one eventually) Very disappointed It's honestly the last chance we've given to mamas due to living close but never again. (Not mentioning the toilet time this morning 🫣) Used to be spot on for food not sure what's happened 🤷

Found plastic in one of the sides. Everything was cold, overdone and greasy. Rang to tell them about the plastic. Offered me a free starter for the next order then eventually hung up

Turned up 30 minutes late, the guy had no idea how to find a Travelodge or Harvester. Food was lukewarm but decent.

Sadly the curry was full of oil, the naan bread very doughy and the rice wet and stodgy.

Good food and owner was very helpful and generous as they gave us free pakoras 🙏🏽

Driver couldn't find address and kept claiming to be outside. Gave him clear directions including landmarks and even eventually gave him live location access and it still took him thirty minutes from then

Very nice! Good old fashioned traditional Dhansak, Very flavoursome rice, decent amount of lamb. I think I've probably has a dhansak from 90 percebt of Indian takeaways in Cardiff and this one is up there with the best. Very fairly priced too Will be ordering again for certain. Best Indian take out. The garlic naan was on point and the Chicken Rezala was brilliant.

Disappointing really. The veg madras and bombay aloo were alright but the chips were limp and soggy and had obviously been reheated from a previous batch. The naan bread was tough and stodgy and really not nice. Again it had obviously been reheated from a previous serving. Such a shame because previously when I've ordered the food has been nice and fresh.

Food was relatively cold when arrived sadly!

A shame we had to wait well over an hour, 2 phone calls and we were told it was nearly with us. A shame because the food is quite nice, it’s hard to please my misses but enjoyed hers, mine was very nice, lovely lamb and an interesting sauce, with oranges! We ordered 4 popadoms but only received 2, which were soft. If your food arrived late at a restaurant they’d reduce the bill but nothing here and we paid for the delivery which was nearly an hour and half late.

Second time of ordering from here and both times delivery has been over an hour later than expected and this time items have been missing as-well! It’s a real shame because the food itself is amazing - very fresh and tasty - but on both occasions I’ve had to phone to check on order and both times told “ it’s leaving right now” it then takes another half hour to get to me - to the point I feel like if I hadn’t called it wouldn’t be sent out at all. Today I ordered at 8.51pm - expected delivery time was 9.45pm and eventually received at 10.47pm This time one of our main curry dishes was missing so I phoned straight away and was told ‘please ring next time you order and we’ll give you this dish free then. I actually thought this was a nice gesture until me husband pointed out this wouldn’t be a ‘free’ item because we’ve already paid for it!!!!!

I was really looking forward to trying Mamas again. Unfortunately, the delivery was 45 minutes late. The food was cold. The order was wrong with no attempt by the driver to rectify and the whole experience was hugely disappointing. 😢

Only criticism is that you don’t offer king prawn puri and naan bread is very basic like you would find in a supermarket

I've ordered from here many times over the year, and get the (same vegetable dansak curry) I have noticed on occasions you give me the correct curry with chickpeas and potatoes, on other occasions you give me a curry with Cauliflower and patoto and no chickpeas and lentils, it seems when you either do not have this curry premade you give me an substitute hoping I'm not going to notice the difference (I do notice and I'm not happy) if you do not have that curry pre prepared on the day don't give me a substitute. Also you given me a can of coke from a multi pack with no sale by date on there so for all I know it could be off, as you sold coke cola that's not supposed to be sold separately when from a multi pack. I won't be coming here again unfortunately you lost a long term customer as substitutes have been given often when the you don't have the curry I have ordered. Won't be ordering any more from here. Public be aware you might not get what you ordered but a completely different curry together!

Wrong curry to hot couldn’t eat any of it is

Unfortunately this is the second time I've had to ring because food was late. The lady even told me that she had "pressed the button" because she didn't want to lose the order. This was in response to my telling her I'd received a text saying it should be with me by 7.40 pm the latest. She told me the driver had left one minute ago. I live max 10mins away. The food came at 8.20. I feel bad about writing this as she was really apologetic - as well as the driver but it's the second time this has happened now. I just hope this makes them improve in future.

Lovely dishes but the Naan breads were like thick flatbreads.

I have been a customer for along time however I ordered my usual two curries last night. When they turned up it was clear the usual chef hadn’t cooked these. I telephoned and was told it was just the same curry left over !!! It was awful

Delivered just at the end of their time slot given, 1 hour 20 minutes after the order, so not initially as advertised <60 mins but at the end of their estimate after ordering. Enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, not as sugary as other restaurants, more taste. The chicken Jaipur was nice too, tasty and again not too sweet. Chips were aldente, just on the limit of being cooked. A couple of the 5 poppadoms were not crispy. The prawn puri starter was nice. Didn't rate the naan breads though! The cheese one had just a few specks of cheese and the keema had very little meat, and both were quite thick and doughy, like supermarket ones you get for 50p! Would order again for the mains and starter, not the 'extras'!

Honestly I was let down by this order. I was given the wrong rice which was cold, the chips were cold and the chicken in my curry tasted well over cooked. Such a shame as I’ve always had great food by mamas but not tonight.

I'd order again, but there wasn't that much chicken in my Madras and the Nan Bread that was delivered was plain, not keema. Overall taste though was great.

Well the food was all amazing .. but the one thing I have to say is the mummma dumplings that we got as a freebie was one of the best things I've ever eaten and has made my night . I just lost my grandad and that well and truly made my night .. I appreciate it thank you so much ... Will definitely be ordering from you from now on and always. I’m not sure what to say tbh. Food delivered cooked fresh and hot, but the taste of every dish was nothing like I’ve had before. I didn’t enjoy it at all, but it could just be me and my taste buds. Sorry

Had Mama's takeaway after a few years, was their regular at one time. I moved areas in Cardiff & couldn't spot them, was far out for delivery I think. Tonight when I'd seen their name pop up, in a blink I ordered my regular menu items & everything was lovely!! Quality consistency is hard to come by, thank you!! Will be ordering again obviously :-D

Love the food from mamas but unfortunately today's order was extremely late (1 hour 15 min late on top the already lengthy estimate of 1 hr 15). 2.5 hours to receive the order was just too long. It ruined the takeaway and movie night and meant we were giving our young children their dinner at 9pm.

Late by 45 mins .even thou it was staying that it had been delivered on the site.call the takeaway and then to be told it had only just left . arrived cold & had to reheat the whole order. Very unhappy and will not order again.

I've ordered from here a lot over the past several years. The food has always been good, though as several others have recently noted, the delivery time leaves a lot to be desired. I waited two hours for the food to arrive this time and it was stone cold. I had to reheat it which of course ruined the flavour; I doubt I'll order from here again. It's a shame because this used to be my favourite takeaway.

Food was decent. Personally was not a fan of this Indian. The Keema Naans weren't cooked properly and doughy even though I asked for them to be well-done. The "salad" came in a small dip container which was ridiculous. The onion bhajis were over-cooked and greasy. Chicken was edible. Wouldn't recommend.

Food was below average. waited 1 hour 40 minutes to get my food. When I called to see how much longer my food was (after 1 hour 20 mins), I got told that they have to press the button for it to be delivered after an hour, so if food isn’t ready they say it’s on its way.

We love the food but the delivery time is ALWAYS wrong. I'm always having to call and find out where the food is - like just update on the app or call. Today one item was missing and one item was wrong. It's a real shame because the food is awesome.

Food is good and have ordered from here several times as it’s always been good. Delivery was suppose to be 18:30 but the food didn’t arrive till 19:00. This may have been as it was down as the first delivery of the day from the time they opened and there may have been existing orders before us. Would definitely order again.
