Was told that this restaurant was really good. No complaints about the food but had a young Indian Waitress who was just terrible and rude.

Oh dear. We were there for evening opening time on a Sunday night and first to be seated. There were other customers but orders taken promptly. And then we waited. After 45 min a beef curry dish appeared. Then some rice. Then a chicken/veg dish. These were tasty I'm told. My veg dish did not appear and on making enquiries was eventually told it had been 'overlooked'. Not handled very well at all. Offered my dish at half price 'in 10 minutes' but the others nearly finished by then. Young waiting staff apologised and we were given a small discount. I really hope this was just bad luck.

A Malaysian friend of ours suggested we visit this restaurant together and what a wonderful idea it was. The staff at Mamak Don were welcoming and straight away you could feel a happy buzz in the air with friends and families chatting and a Malaysian family group celebrating a birthday together. Our friend picked a selection of dishes for us to share as this would be a tasty introduction to Malaysian cuisine. The food was nicely presented, colourful, and full of flavour. When I was browsing through the menu I noticed a strange conical-shaped dessert that reminded me of the wizards' hat in Harry Potter, with a dusting of cocoa and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. As a lover of desserts, this caught my eye straight away, so we made sure to order one to try.

The restaurant was full when we arrived but the staff were very helpful saying that if we returned in half an hour they would have a table for us. Lots of restaurants in the area but the food we could see people eating looked so good we thought it worth the wait - and it certainly was. A warm welcome when we returned and a clean table waiting for us. The menu is quite large and very interesting but in the end we decided on a sharing dish, a kind of thalli with four small dishes, lentils, chicken, beef and vegetables in the most tasty sauces. However, the most memorable item was the plateful of Roti -thin and scrunched up -they were absolutely delicious and something neither of us had tasted before. Staff were efficient and attentive despite being busy throughout the restaurant. An excellent experience!!
