Had dinner here with my husband and son. We were the only diners but that didn't matter (they seem to have takeaway orders going out). The decor is nice and simple with pretty art work in the walls. We received a warm welcome and the service was spot on and quick. The food was delicious, we all ordered something different - for starters: famous fried dumplings, pattie, African honey beans. For mains: curried goat, jerk chicken, red beef stew - as well as jollof rice and steamed rice. The food was fresh, tasty,tender and plentiful. We all said we would return again and recommend. Excellent meal.

We had a wonderful meal, jerked blackened salmon and the famous Rice ! Authentic and well seasoned . The service was excellent . Highly recommend a visit .

I popped in spontaneously walking back from the station on Saturday around 9pm. Unfortunately they had sold out of Oxtail but the red beef stew was tender and flavourful and the rice and peas was light and fluffy. I’ll go back when I have another craving!

Great menu. The food was absolutely delicious and all worked really well together. The young waiter, Romeo, was still learning the ropes but was engaging, super polite, took pride and went out of his way to make sure everything was right — real credit to the place. The drinks menu let the side down — better wines and beers could make the overall dining experience amazing — and the atmosphere was a bit flat. Unused tables were all pushed against the wall which was odd and the owner, who seemed really engaging, only talked to a table he knew, which was a shame, because it was quiet and a bit of hosting can make a night! All that said, the place is great and I will definitely be back.

The food is so delicious. If you visit this place please, whatever you do order the “famous fried dumpling”. It is out of this world! Friendly helpful stuff.

Nothing wrong with the food per se, albeit very small portions, I had the jerk chicken with rice & peas plus some planton. However I noticed a specific change in attitude (manner/way I was looked at) when the person doing the serving realised that I wasn't going to order any of their very overpriced alcoholic drinks, I'm of late middle age and just don't drink anymore, so when I asked just for some water, the vibe changed completely to the point of being noticeable, to put it mildly. I won't be returning as I much prefer to dine in a place with friendly staff or owners. In fairness I do understand that the restaurant business has been through a bad time post pandemic but giving customers such a sudden change of attitude to the point of staring at you unpleasantly if you're not ordering from their drinks menu is thoroughly unwelcoming. Maybe that's why they gave me such small portions of everything, I ended up going home and having a snack. I can only comment from my one single visit, I was dining alone, maybe they don't like that too, but I can't recommend and will avoid in future. I've only moved to the area in the last few weeks and have found numerous other restaurants that are perfectly friendly and pleasant in a genuine way.

The food was delicious. A bit too spicy for me, but it tasted amazing. I had the goat curry. The lights were a bit to bright and cold for mood setting.

This is a lovely restaurant, relaxed and friendly, service is good. The owner and staff are very charming. We had the fried dumplings and black beans for starters, both were delicious. All the main courses we had were excellent (jerk aubergine, goat curry, fish curry) and wine is very reasonable. Would recommend!

Loved it. Hot, spicy, tasty, flavourful. Plenty. I will be going back. Wines need updating to cater for a broader wine palette for preference although the owner was right, the Chilean reds did go with the food served. Very friendly, approachable owner and good discussions.

We walked past this morning and decided to book for tonight. My over half loved the fish soup to start and for mains we had chicken curry, curry goat and jerk chicken. Rice and peas and fried yam. Service was also friendly. Really worth giving it a go.

Absolutely nasty dog food. Could not even consume the mess. It smelt and was cold, I just threw it in the bin. AVOID!

We had an excellent meal, the curried goat was delicious and the Crispy Tilapia was a revelation. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

We ordered 2 Beef Redstew and only received 1… the food was actually amazing though.

Came here a long time ago when they first started and it was not great. This time the decor is much nicer, with proper linin on the tables, food is lovely although music was a bit loud and the food would be far nicer on warm plates, cold plates make the food go cold. And would be nice to see the one caribbean desert available, it was a Friday so there is no excuse really.

Terrible service cold burnt food rude delivery driver Kept lying telling me my food was on it's way Lied to just eats and said they delivered my food on time and was over 50 minutes late Never Again will o use this restaurant

Absolutely delish, everything was seasoned so beautifully. Very quick too! We collected and arrived 10 mins early, it had just been dished up so was piping hot! A great treat! 🥘

We looooooooove Mama Puts to the extent of driving 45min each way for a take out. If only they were in Rye…

What a wonderful find! Lovely clean and we'll decorated restaurant. The staff friendly and welcoming but at times a little slow to take orders, but may be unfair to say when I'm used to fast London pace. Food was absolutely amazing and if we were local I would come back and try every dish. Highly recommended visiting.

This is one of the best places to eat in hasting/lens. Stews are hearty and full of flavour. It is very reasonably priced, especially the special offer of various dishes. I highly recommend this place to everyone, as long as you can handle spicy 😂

If I could have left no stars I would. Booked a table weeks in advance, arrived 5 minutes early to find no staff or customers anywhere. Eventually a young lad came and told us to sit where we like. After a few minutes the waiter came and sheepishly told us the chef was out on a delivery should be back about 10 minutes. We were most surprised by this but ordered drinks anyway. 7.15 came, still no chef. Still believing he would return we ordered. Waiter returned after hearing him rooting around the freezer to inform us no chicken patties. So beef was ordered instead. Within literally a minute starters arrived. I have never seen such awful food anywhere. The dumplings were so burnt and dense you could have killed a man if you had thrown it. As for the pattie a microwaved anaemic piece of slop arrived. 7.20 2 guys jumped out of a car, walked past us without acknowledging their customers and headed to the kitchen. At this point my friend and I decided enough is enough. I went to find the waiter and explained we were leaving but I would pay for our drinks. He was mortified and apologised. I explained he had done nothing wrong. We felt so sorry for the waiter he was so polite and yet he was being used as a fall guy. We will never return again which is a shame as it used to be a nice place.

Really disappointing. Two under experienced young kids left running the restaurant. A very long wait for poor food. Over cooked and really oily. Couldn't eat half of eat it. A lot of people walked out when we were there and the atmosphere was incredibly awkward .

Took my Sister & Nephew here early this week. Was greeted with all smiles, menu was explained as I’m vegetarian and Sis isn’t great on Spicy/Hot. Really chilled n relaxing, decor and art is beautiful “love the gloss black ceiling is cool, very deceiving, has a real warm and hospitable mood to the place. Food was great, authentic Afro-Caribbean and so tasty and flavoursome, I like it so much I ordered more. This is an atmospheric, welcoming and very chilled place to eat. Love, Love, Love. 100 per cent recommend, cheers Mamma Putts 👍🏻

Had a great Wed evening here. Birthday party going on whih made it lively. Food and service very good. Our first visit, we live in Ethiopa, would certainly go again. Nigerian veg curry excellent, just right level of spicieness for me !!

Really disappointing the spices in the curry were not fried correctly . Plantain was over ripe and the yam was dated . First and last time ordering here , on a plus note the delivery driver was really friendly and had no issue at all going back for the rice that was forgotten .would have loved to help this business regularly unfortunately it wasn’t to my taste it’s like no goat curry I have ever tried before.

Fabulous selection of authentic Jamaican and Nigerian cuisine cooked to perfection, like your mama would have cooked for you at home! Great atmosphere and very pleasing to the eye artwork, hung on the walls. It brings in a lot of cultural essence to the dining experience. A must for people who want something a little special. Order the oxtail. It's to die for!

It wasn't bad, I enjoyed the goat curry and the Jamaican patty but wasn't a fan of the dumplings or jollof rice, maybe if I had a different rice i may of liked it more. Still nice quality food but not really my cup of tea to be honest. Was worth a try and I'm sure people will find something they like on the menu.

Not Jamaican food but African and of poor quality at that. Dreadful dumplings. Only good thing about the meal was the ice cream. Pleasant waitress but not enough to redeem the experience.

Been meaning to come here for years, got here eventually and it didn't disappoint. Food was very good, with veggie and meaty choice. Service was unrushed, and worth the wait. Recommended.

Food was late and missing items. Restaurant boss did not care and acknowledged the photos and the food descriptions were wrong on just eat. Blame us for living far away for the food being late yet we paid £5 delivery and they provided the estimated delivery times. Was 30 minutes late

We absolutely love this place. We visited Hastings many times last summer and every time made a beeline for Mamma Putts. Now we've moved here, and can't get enough of it. We are veg and vegan, and well catered for. The food is consistently high quality, freshly made and delicious. Staff are also lovely, really friendly, and even when we were unable to visit for a while, they remembered our favourites. Lovely restaurant, lovely food, lovely staff - what more could you ask for. Highly recommended. And now that we've moved to Hastings, we'll be regulars, and will be taking all our visitors along to Mamma Putts. Delicious.
