Mama Geny's (Formerly Kai Vegan) in Hastings

The best vegan food in Hastings and possibly the planet!! My partner and I are vegan and thought it was amazing so we came back the next day with family (who are not vegan) and they adored it just as much as us. Thank you mama Geny’s, we will be back!!

Really nice to have great plant based food with so much flavour. Great staff. Cool background music and fab dessert choices, a real rarity for a vegan.

We had our first meal here lunchtime today. As we have never tried Filipino food we opted for the fill a plate for £8 deal. We were immediately made welcome by the family team and this didn't change until we left the restaurant. There were 3 main dishes, rice and mixed salad, all of which were delicious. We cannot wait to return and would highly recommend to others

The food was fantastic, so nice to be able to have vegan Filipino food, I was convinced I would have to wait many years for this. The bistek was incredibly flavourful and mouthwateringly delicious, and the turon was so tasty and satisfying. They were so welcoming and friendly, I didn't want to leave. Wish we lived round there to be able to go all the time.

I had dinner there while on vacation and my experience was 10/10. The owners are very welcoming and lovely. The food is delicious and freshly cooked. This is the kind of place I would go to on a regular basis if I lived in Hastings 😊

Omg, never thought vegan food could be so good! Didn't even wanna go there, but friends insisted. Had the special fried rice with soy beef. Out of this world. Finished the whole lot till the last grain of rice. I won't convert to veganism but I'll certainly go back again. Excellent

Their food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. Every single dish was amazing (so much so that we forgot to take pictures for this review until we got the dessert!) Also, it is dog friendly inside, which for us makes a huge difference 😊

We turned on the Happy Cow app & found this little gem, 5 minutes from the train station. The staff were all lovely & the food was absolutely delicious, with some great flavours. 100% Vegan. 100% Recommended.

Delicious food! The fried tofu was a game changer. So much flavour and great value. The owners were really welcoming and clearly have a real interest in their cuisine. The proof was in the pudding…literally. Will return for sure!

I love this place! The food is incredible. Came for the lunch deal- fill your plate for £8. The meal was delicious and I left stuffed! I also got the Pan de Choco, which was unbelievable! Lovely owners too. Go visit! I’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

We are so glad we came across ‘Mama Geny’s’! This is plant based food, made with passion & truly genuine care. Me my partner & friends were looking for plant based options in East Sussex & although the options were vast, to my pleasure, nothing came as close as Mama Geny’s! The food was incredibly fresh & tasted like it had been marinated not only with an abundance of herbs and spices but also a magical blend of love & positivity. Food options that frequently change, correlating to the seasons. We were greeted by Geny themselves, a small person, with outrageously large smile & aura to match. (I hope they don’t mind me saying) Geny offered us a table outside & shared some details about the buffet, they had made that day. We devoured the tasty food, in minutes despite being advised to fill our plates up to max. The stew being my absolute favourite. You’re not just getting plant based food here. You are getting what foods all about, connecting people, solidifying the essence of home, whilst engendering a future of love, care & compassion. I cannot wait to return. To see a friend that I only met once. To enjoy wonderful food & to be reminded of what food should mean to all of us! 5 star.

Fantastic Filipino food freshly prepared and lovingly served in a cute family run restaurant. Super kind hosts and we loved the food. Everything is vegan, most of it is also glutenfree! Totally worth a detour to find.

I was out and about and needed to use their toilet, and of course wanted to buy something! They didn’t ask me to, but as soon as I smelled the aroma of their home-cooked food, and felt the warmth of their hospitality, I just couldn’t help it! My oh my, the best spring rolls I’ve ever had. What a gem of a place, a gem of a family. Cant wait to return, will be bringing all my pals. Reasonably priced too.

I went in today for the Filipino fusion roast dinner. It was so good. Well cooked and a nice variety of veg on the plate. If you feel like splashing out a bit for it and are hungry then it is a really lovely Sunday lunch. Its two courses and a mulled wine at the moment (but guessing that will change soon). The dessert was sticky toffee/coconut rice infusion and one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth! So so good. The owners are lovely, warm and welcoming too. We will definitely be back. As others have mentioned, some of the negative reviews on here seem to be for a different place as they don't have those things on the menu so just check out the more recent ones!

Salamat! Amazing food supplied to an event held for Christmas. Within 15 minutes, all the food had gone it was that delicious and everyone was really happy. Owners were super nice upon waiting for picking up the dishes, even offered us as drink and spare spring rolls they’d cooked. They even cut some fruit up for us for the event, which was a super lovely gesture from them. As it was for an event, it was great that they even included food tags to each dish which explained the name of the dish, what it may contain and any allergens. We’re really happy with the service, food and it’s great to have different food options to explore in town. Once again, salamat and Merry Christmas! From Bonnie

Nice food, but no more than average. It's far too expensive for what you actually get, so while I enjoyed the meal I won't be ordering from here again as it is poor value for money.

Fantastic food and amazingly kind chef happy to adjust food to your liking. Wonderful service would visit again - highly recommend the light bites (all of them!) and Pancit Bihon was adapted to not be as spicy and was devine and devoured. Great for all palates and fairly priced.

Such delicious plant based food, every dish we had was inventive and unique. We called ahead and asked to make a dish less spicy and they were very friendly and helpful on the phone and it wasn't a problem at all. It's so nice to have a healthy local takeaway that doesn't compromise on taste. Can't wait to come back! :)

Plant based, Traditional Filipino food. Mama Geny is an amazing cook, and makes the best food. The Lumpia is lovely, but the star of the show is either the Mami or the Halo-Halo.

Vegan friends took us to this friendly family run restaurant when we were visiting Hastings. The food was delightful as were Mama G & her daughter themselves!

Such a lovely small family run restaurant. Very friendly service and amazing food. It makes me wish there was a Filipino restaurant near my home. I'm a noodle fan so I went straight for the Sotanghon Gusado. It was unique (new to my palette) and fantastic. I also enjoyed the dessert, though I can't remember the name of the dish.

Had lunch her with my partner, our 6 month old, and another couple and their two kids. First, the food was absolutely amazing. Even if you think vegan food isn't your thing, give this place a try. Second, the staff were all so kind and accommodating. Next time we're in Hastings, we'll be back!

Great little place in a convenient location with great service! Although plant-based, I think the food would appeal to omnivores as well. I have some odd food sensitivities and the staff was incredibly accommodating. I had the inihaw, which was just was delicious as it looks! Some of the reviews on here seem to be for a different restaurant, so please just pay attention to the newer ones if you are considering eating here.

We stumbled upon this place completely by accident, and we are SO pleased that we did. Deliciously fresh food bursting with unique flavours. Could have savoured the exquisite dishes m all night, except the portion size was just perfect. Left us feeling completely satisfied but with just enough room for dessert. Will definitely be back every time we visit Hastings. No photo because we were too busy eating to take a picture. 🤣

6 of us arrived quite late on a Thursday night (dog included 🐕) We were all warmly greeted and made to feel like family. Food was out of this world 🌎 and very reasonably priced! My granddaughter isn't even vegan but that didn't stop her finishing off a whole bowl of noodles! To top it off the chef and 'Lola' #ifyouknowyouknow came to the table to check we enjoyed the food. I had the moving mountains double burger, chips and onion rings. Was all lovely, the bbq sauce with the onion rings was lush. Will definitely be ordering again and trying one of the Filipino options!

Popped in here recently and ordered the Lumpia (spring rolls) and a coffee to go. Service was brilliant with very friendly welcoming vibe, and food was phenomenal and all in fully compostable packaging, would come back to Hastings just to visit here again!

Absolutely our favourite cafe, delicious vegan food made fresh! I truly recommend the soups! Delicious coffee and the most friendly and warm people run it. I'd give 10 stars if it was possible!

Excellent food as always and a lovely kind surprise of a gifted portion of a new dish to try. Mama Geny's always go the extra mile - I am a huge fan.

The Lumpia were filled with potato, mega greasy with the state of ground pepper. Overcooked vegetables to the point the vegetables inside were all mushy and tasteless but the outside was crispy. The glass noodles were bland and the soya chunks looked like round pieces of dog food. The "vegetables" were sparse but the 5 pieces of mange tout I had were lovely and crunchy. Sadly this has not lived up to the standard the reviews portrayed so lesson learned, shame about the waste however I just could not bring myself to eat it.

Hands down my favourite place to eat in Hastings! I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I never miss meat in their dishes. The Filipino dishes are especially rich and filling!

My new favorite place to eat Loved this place. We (six of us) ended up lining the table with all the Filippo food and having a bit of each. It was all wonderful...even the hot dish I thought may be too hot...it was more warm and gently spiced. Will most DEFINATELY be back.
