Maltsters Pub & Restaurant in Norwich

I used to be a fan of this place, but ever since the management changed, it's gone downhill fast. The burger was so dry I had to check if I accidentally ordered a hockey puck. And the beef bourguignon? Oddly enough, it tasted just like the beef coconut curry – guess the chef’s getting creative by making every dish taste the same. For a place with such lackluster food, you'd think they could at least keep the beer reasonably priced, but nope, it’s overpriced too. Given the trend, I wouldn't be surprised if they’re closing up shop soon. And judging by the sarcastic responses to other negative reviews, I’m sure I’ll get one of those too. Word to the wise: avoid while you still can.

My husband and I visited here yesterday and stayed over night in our camper. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We spent most of the day here enjoying the beautiful setting for where it is located. We had an evening meal and some drinks and could not fault it at all. Good size portions and delicious and well worth the money. Looking forward to coming back here. Keep up the excellent work you have been doing since you have taken over a few months ago. 10/10 👍😊

I was pleased to see that this pub had reopened as Ranworth is a place I often visit with my mum. On a visit last Sunday however we were met with loud, amplified music coming from a makeshift stage outside the pub. A lone singer/guitarist was doing his best to entertain the alfresco diners with covers of pop songs, but it was obvious from the embarrassed applause that no one was particularly enjoying it. People visit the broads for peace and quiet, and maybe a drink and bite to eat at a country pub, but when birdsong and quiet conversation are drowned out by someone belting out 'Red, Red Wine', the experience is ruined. Live music is not necessary to entice people to this pub. Good food is, though, so I would concentrate on improving the quality of the cooking and ditch the 'entertainment'.

Staff were bit clueless and rude ! food shocking !! Cold an not worth the money toilets were yuk needed a good clean don’t waste ya money on the food service rubbish too !!!

Love the location, and pleased to see the pub open again and busy. We have been here a couple of times before and always found the drinks good, but gosh they are expensive. This now sets the record paid by me for a pint of lager and half a Guinness at 5p short of a tenner.

We arrived lunchtime on a sunny Saturday, the fact we were able to get a table outside should have have told us something inside was almost empty. We ordered pizza and a ploughman’s the menu is very limited. Pizza was good no complaints about that. However the ploughman’s was very disappointing extremely expensive for the small amount of poor quality food, few slices of toasted baguette, handful of crisps slice of thin sandwich ham cut and spread out to look bigger, cheap pickle onions and pork pie slice of cheddar and Brie with a little side salad and pot of chutney that tasted like it had been opened since Christmas. I truly wish I’d sent it back. Lesson learnt. It was nice to sit outside they had made an effort with the flowers and plants. Inside seemed soulless. The toilets were non too clean not from use just lack of general cleaning. Lovely location, looks lovely from outside but very disappointing. Not somewhere I’d recommend and we will definitely not be returning.
