Manageress has attitude problems. Certinly not fit runing a pub. We left with children to a more pleasant place. With no interest in ever returning.

Really lovely experience and meals 8 of us which originally started as 2 Plentiful portions and quality of food and pricing Will definitely be coming back

Absolutely amazing meal , had the fish and chips the batter was so crispy the chunky chips were great , will definitely need back 😀

Decor looks great, friendly staff and fair prices. Not eaten here yet… Really nice feel to the pub, especially with a real fire 👍 Only thing I would change is removing seating from the bar… Hope this does well, Beeston needs this 👍

Came here on the 12th Oct just for drinks as we heard under new management,were impressed with decor and service advised of sunday dinner availability so we came on Sunday. I had roast beef ,my wife had chicken medium sized both were nice. My wife likes slices of breast chicken but you get leg and I had 2 slices of beef which was nice and juicy pink in the middle. Only 1 minus a little heavy on pepper. We passed on our comments to chef very helpful. Good place can only get better well done. Good value for money £8.50 each.

This business has had a hard time. A very hard time. It gets a lot of stick from a lot of people who don’t see the change . It’s finally a positive place . A great environment and we had food and the service was amazing . Jake is an amazing Landlord and we are so happy he is back at the helm.

Struggled to get served as regulars sitting on stools hogging the bar. Junior staff behind the bar “effin' and jeffin'", although were told off by manager/landlord. Struggling to sprinkle salt on my food as salt came loose in a soup bowl with a dessert spoon! I could be wrong, but I can see this pub changing hands again very soon

Come in often. The beer is always cold but the welcome is warm. Staff always happy to help and Jake the landlord is lovely! Definitely will be returning .

A little gem just off the high street. Great Vibe, great food. Pukka chef cooked Sunday roast - no microwave stuff here! Apple crumble and custard to follow Mmmm. Nice. We'll be back.

We had a Sunday roast at the Malt Shovel Inn today and we're very disappointed to the portion sizes. Looking at other people's reviews our meals were even more on the stingy side and certainly not worth nearly £30 for the two of us! I think they must have run out of parsnips and roast potatoes as there were only one potato (cut in half) and half a parsnip each. Sadly not the advertised 'all the trimmings'. The interior was a bit dark and dingy except for the window seats. I think we'll be sticking with our regular bigger named carvery in the future.

Hi we had a Sunday roast ,I had the pork with the wife opting for the beef . Both meals were nice enough, but we felt reasonably small and quite expensive for what you got on your plate .other than the meat there were no other choice on veg or potatoes. Staff were lovely and service was great .

Really enjoy the malt shovel as a local ,for me and the staff are amazing especially Kim as she runs the pub very professionally , I was offered a special which was a fishfinger in ciabatta bread with chips which was really nice and very reasonably priced too , A really nice local pub but I would recommend to anybody passing bye , definitely a must visit pub in Beeston that Kim will welcome you like you are Royals .

We celebrated our child's 1st birthday here and it was brilliant! All the staff were very helpful, the food was great and we all felt very welcomed. It is now officially my favourite pub in Beeston. Thank you Kim and team for all your help!

Waited at least half hr before dinner finally arrived. No staff member approached me in order to apologise about the long wait. I ad to enquire but no reasonable excuse was given and the bar wasn't particularly busy. Was there 7th May 2023. Not at all impressed. The roast beef was rock hard. Wish that I'd of asked for a hammer n chisel to cut the beef up as they didn't have a steak knife

This new team at The Malt Shovel really went out of their way to make us feel at home. We are a family with twin 7 year olds, who loved the activities to keep them busy while enjoyed the tasty food and really nice interiors. Relaxing with a good dollop of fun thrown in. I'm making it my Beeston regular.

A nice cosy little pub with friendly staff and affordable food. Good deal on sunday dinner too. Dogs welcome.

Visited this pub today with my son and family for his Birthday and have to say I was disappointed. Portions were small and overpriced, roast potatoes and parsnips were undercooked and hard.

Four of us had a good Sunday lunch here today. Between us we had chicken, pork and beef - all well cooked, with chocolate brownie and apple crumble to follow. We sat next to the open fire in nice surroundings. Staff were very attentive Selection of 8 ales on tap. We will go back again. Looking at the board, there is plenty going on mid week e.g. Quiz night etc. Tucked away in a side road, we were able to park in the car park and found it not too noisy. Looks the sort of place for a pint and the paper. See you soon!

What a great pub great tasting beer and friendly staff

Enjoyed a great night of live music, playing my banjo in a jam session with the locals there a few weeks back. Very friendly, welcoming place.

Have been to this pub before and the roasts were really good so we’re happy to come back again but not as good this time around. It is and expensive roast when you don’t get much meat and the yorkies are more solid than they should be even with extra gravy. The staff are friendly and puddings good though roasts left us a little disappointed this time.

The friendly bartender asked me to leave a Google review, so here it is! Recommended, even in an area well-endowed with good pubs. I had an absolutely cracking pint of Shipstones Mild which is a particularly flavourful example of the style. The interior of the pub is decorated in warm, earthy colours with a selection of comfortable places to sit, although like so many places now, there are no bar stools. Expect a good range of Shippos’ brews plus a guest ale. Why not combine with a visit to The Pottle micropub, just across the way?

Popped in for a coffee just over a week ago, £6.30 for 2 mugs of ordinary coffees, certainly won't be popping back there.

Great atmosphere, value for money, friendly and we had a really nice meal. Only suggestion would be to add a few more vegetarian options to the menu. Definitely worth a regular visit

They call this ‘traditional pub food’ . I wasn’t impressed £9 for sausage. £9:75 for the pie. Glass of coke and a tonic water bill was over £27! And note the 12 1/2 % service charge written on top of the menu! The menu also state voted ‘ best restaurant in the city’ …. It also asks for a review on google, so here it is…

Popped in for a cheeky pint earlier (NYE). Pub was busy and a great atmosphere. Excellent service from Sarah and a well poured pint.

One of my favourite pubs in beeston, polite staff, food always great which has only just become recently available again and selection slowly improving but will be worth the wait. The Guinness was really nice so recommended you pay them a visit.

Went on a Wednesday evening and it was very quiet but pleasant. Friendly staff, board games, nice to chill and have a pint. Plenty of parking and wheelchair friendly. Nice clean toilets.

Warm and friendly welcome, had a great chat with the barman about their beer selection. Dog friendly pub and the decor and vibe is very welcoming. It’s a bit pricey but it’s worth it.

Lovely traditional pub in the heart of Beeston. In its latest configuration you will always receive a warm and friendly welcome. There is a great selection of beers, that are well kept and presented will many local brews that is to be applauded. The interior is well laid out with comfortable seating and plenty of room consideration the pubs size. Unfortunately, food is not available currently, but they are working on this currently. Twinned with the Commercial, also in Beeston they represent the great venues to visit and I would thoroughly recommend.

First time I visited for about 40 years and went with two of my sisters and my partner for Sunday Lunch. Although the service was a little slow, probably due to them being busy, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was superb and good sized portion whilst cost being very reasonable. Will definitely go again and I won't leave it so long next time.

If You want a quality sit down meal, then this is the place to be. For starters the Decor inside this establishment is fantastic. Very warm feel to it with some quality oak wooded furniture. Great upholstery can be found all round on all seating. The staff are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. Which obviously makes your time here even more enjoyable. But most importantly the food is very nice indeed. I would give a 5 start review however the food portion size isn't very good. £12 for a burger that wasn't very big at all is a bit steep. However I guess you pay for quality🙂

Overall very nice. The food was great as was the customer service. The atmosphere was also very pleasing. Only downsides are the portion sizes are relatively small especially for the price.

Walked in at lunch on a Sunday on the off chance there might be space. Very accommodating staff managed to squeeze us in - all 4 of us. Lovely atmosphere, very chilled, delicious food.

Great Beer in great surroundings

The Malt Shovel has been through several new managements since we moved to Beeston; some good and some definitely not so good. The current management I very much hope stays! It's a lovely pub, well furnished, good drinks, good food, good music, really friendly and attentive staff, and very welcoming atmosphere. It has indoor and outdoor space (something you might not expect with it being tucked right behind the high street), and even plenty of parking if you need to drive. If you've not been in the last few months since it reopened, I would honestly recommend trying it.

The Malt Shovel has new owners and they've improved the place no end. It was always an OK food pub, but they've really improved the menu. A few pub classics, plus some more adventurous stuff. Very dog friendly. Good place for a beer with five real ales plus craft and the usual mass produced stuff. The online ordering system works really well and the staff are very happy for you to order in the traditional manner if you prefer. Great staff and a very friendly atmosphere.
