Malone's Irish Bar in Edinburgh, City of

Hadn't been here since it changed its name. Strange sort of entrance with a lot of steps. Very very dark back room. Still, staff were friendly and drinks were reasonable!

Kept changing the price of student discounted pints, didn't remove the cheese off a burger after asking to (cannot eat dairy), staff were a bit moody

Excellent food!! Wow, amazing food and a great place to watch live sport. Down the Hatch has recently taken over the kitchen and this place is not to be missed 🍔

Cerco un Pub Irlandese per un Irish Coffee e un Tè caldo. Il ragazzo al banco chiede al collega cosa sia un Irish Coffee e dopo la consultazione ricevo un espresso corretto al Whisky e un Tè English Breakfast per 8.35£ La cosa più assurda è che non hanno lo zucchero (nè per il corretto nè per il Tè) Capisco che il 95% delle bevute servite fossero birra, ma se hai una zona caffetteria che serve caffè e tè come si può non avere zucchero?

Big and good pub to eat or drink something. We were walking along Forrest road and we stopped there to drink a pint of beer and some delicious buffalo chips. Good place, big and nice inside, lovely and friendly staff. The food is good, good menu and selection of beers and spirits. Definitely one of the best in the area.

Well well well what a great experience having been a regular at south queensferry i was in edinburgh with family and dropped in to mcsoreleys seeing as down the hatch was there. Burgers wings and poutine were absolutely spot on just what we needed and the people we were beside loved there food too. Only thing I would say is they should maybe have kids food and specials like they do at south queensferry all in all a great experience on par or even better than South queensferry keep up the good work and thank you for good food and vibes will deffinatly be back. Ps bring the breakfast skillet here

Just been in to mcsorleys after seeing down the hatch on Instagram and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing everything was perfect. Best burger I've ever had

Down the Hatch is slinging out some fine fine food out of Mcsorley's in Edinburgh. We had the Curdmeister burger, the Hatch Burger..with Poutine. Some of the finest burgers we've ever eaten...and that Poutine...wow..it's the real deal! Keep up the good work!

Went in because I love down the hatch in south in south Queensferry and saw they have taken over the kitchen here. We got the 4 pint pitcher and wing deal for £20 and a Philly cheesesteak when the champions league was on. Wings are just as good as down the road but here all the time!!!! Manager on duty seemed all over it and spoke us through the menu. Impressed all round

I wish we hadn't came here with such high expectations. After following Down The Hatch on Instagram and liking what we seen we decided to visit Mcsorleys when we were down in Edinburgh for the weekend. We ordered the classic poutine, buffalo wings with blue cheese mayo and the fish tacos. Within 10 minutes or so the food arrived. As you can see from the pictures the wings looked like a pile of mush and who knows what the blue cheese mayo looks like? The tacos were pretty tasteless and the only good thing about the meal was the poutine. 2 star rating only because we enjoyed the poutine. I'd hope that Down The Hatch has a higher standard of cooking in their own restaurant than they do here.

Whilst the vibe remain good, the standard of food and service was very poor. Exceptionally poor. The food was ridiculously salty, and returns on this we didn’t then receive the same standard to which we had ordered: yet a small plated version of it, despite paying the full price to begin with. Disappointing and I felt like they were taking the mick in a way. Off putting in terms of future visits.

Went in to watch the Ireland VS Japan match at 8am, ordered two pints and a bacon breakfast roll that was displayed on the bar. Pints were fine but the breakfast roll came out as a bun with one rasher inside, no butter, nothing, for 3pound. Make some dam effort and butter the bun and put atleast two rasher inside you scabby twits

I cannot remember how I got here, I think me and my daughter had walked from the direction of the University and we were hungry. This looked empty enough to be friendly and it was raining. When we sat down and looked at the menu I noticed that they served Poutine. A dish I had been a little desperate to try as my brother lives in Canada and ooddles of friends have raved about this dish. There was also dirty fries with bacon and jalapeno's. So we were a little torn as to what to order. So I ordered both. It was amazing. Both dishes. I don't understand why poutine isn't more popular in the UK considering it has EVERYTHING the British love. Cheese. Chips. And Gravy! The service was extremely friendly and helpful and the price for the foods were pretty decent. So I would definitely come here again to scoff on either dish.

Title pretty much sums it up. Very stupidly chose this place to watch the auld firm game at the weekend. BIG MISTAKE. Was the only bear in the whole place. Didn’t even wear my Gers top as I really cannot be bothered with the grief but unfortunately a group of rather drunk men (supporters of the bheasts) spotted my winston Churchill draped in the Union Jack tattoo and wouldn’t leave me alone for the whole game! I tried complaining to one of the bar staff but he just laughed in my face and said serves you right ya orange b******! Well this was my queue to leave and won’t be back to this clearly pro sceptic pub. When will sectarian prejudice end? Unreal. Anyway, WATP

Called here during the Edinburgh Festival and as with many other establishments in the city the service and facilities were below par. I asked for Belhaven Best and a glass of Chardonnay and neither was available as they were sold out. No idea what else was unavailable but we settled for Guinness and Pinot Grigio. Tables were not cleared of glasses or wiped and a general feel of it doesn't matter because the customers will come in anyway was evident. I won't be rushing back.

Don’t name it a poutine with “chips cheese CURD and gravy” when this is not true. Was merely chips and cheddar cheese with lumpy gravy. Waited 45 minutes for my wrong dish and when I asked to swap to something else I was greeted with a £1.40 extra charge. Not a good experience, manager extremely defensive and stated that how it is served. If true, the menu is a lie!

This place is a great venue for shows. It is comfortable - only 6 steps to the bar. It could do with more sitting options for people who cannot climb a bar stool in the front bar section, inside are better options. Friendly service.

Great bar! Good size. Great crowd. Great music! I love the long bar to sit at. I enjoyed it so much that I stopped by the following night.

Irish pub Ambiente mit live music, sehr laut und junges Publikum. Mojito schmeckt leider nach Spülwasser, total schlecht. Aber die Gins und die Auswahl einfach super und vor allem lecker. Holunderblüten gin tonic war mein Favorit.

Pub escocés / irlandés en una zona muy estudiantil de la ciudad. Área de bar muy grande y estar muy ocupado por la noche. Sirven una pinta decente y los precios son promedio para el área. Algunas pantallas gigantes que muestran deportes en vivo durante todo el día. El personal estaba muy ocupado pero aún así era amigable cuando eventualmente te tocaban. Está bien si las Barras de tema irlandesas son lo tuyo.

Encontramos este lugar para ver el partido de Liverpool. Absoluta joya de lugar para ver deporte. Varias pantallas gigantes, muchos asientos (hasta en el balcón / mezzanine es genial ver todas las pantallas). Buena selección de cervezas y cervezas. Dos de mis mejores amigos y yo estábamos buscando un buen bar para tomar un par de copas antes de ir a los clubes, el camarero fue extremadamente educado y estaba dispuesto a ayudarnos con lo que necesitábamos, excelente ambiente y un fantástico servicio. La mejor manera absoluta de comenzar una noche fuera.

Igazából az ételekről nem sokat tudok nyilatkozni, mivel mi itt nem ettünk, hanem egy esti koncertet hallgattunk végig, viszont a hangulat óriási volt. A személyzet kedves volt, a sörök finomak, a hely tiszta és hangulatos, a zeneválasztás pedig óriási.

NIce Bar, donde disfrutamos de nuestras bebidas mientras esperábamos música en vivo con muchos televisores grandes para eventos deportivos, etc. Sin embargo, pronto se hizo evidente que la escena musical estaba dominada principalmente por el grupo de adolescentes de 20 y 20 años (tal vez algunos en sus 30 s / 40 s y aunque disfrutamos de la banda en vivo, no nos sentimos lo suficientemente cómodos para levantarnos y unirnos al baile, que consistía principalmente en chicas jóvenes que saltaban y brincaban. This is the worst pub I’ve ever visited. I live in Edinburgh and I have visited almost all the well known pubs in the city. I’ve heard about this place lots of good things, but when I came the waiters were very unpolited, the place was very dirty and the drinks were low quality and really expensive, so I don’t recommend this place to anyone who come to the city.

Habiendo sido un grupo de 10 allí por algún tiempo, durante la noche nos pidieron que nos cambiáramos para lo que se describió como una despedida de soltera. Se puede entender mesas. reservado. . Casi toda, pero crazy pub no hace buen sentido de negocios

Big venue. Live music was poor the night we were there guy was attempting Ed Sheran, oasis and traditional Irish songs. Wasn't very good. Imagine you could have a good night with a crowd.

Una cosa que me pareció que le faltaba en Edimburgo fueron seriamente con algo de ambiente pero bares este no fue el caso con McSorleys. En el deporte tenían un montón de pantallas grandes y pequeños alrededor del bar, entonces tenían música en vivo y algunas canciones buenas en después de eso, justo lo que necesita cada vez. Tiene algo para todo el mundo, no comimos aquí, pero estamos seguros de no beber! El personal del bar era muy agradable también. El único inconveniente era la cantidad de estudiantes borrachos cayendo en el lugar y gritando, y fuimos entre semana, pero parece ser que la universidad está al lado, así que es de esperar. .

Beautiful pub, brilliant sports screen, friendly staff... This evening when we visited it was all college students. More of a college bar for students, cheap and cheerful. Toilets were clean but my god the smell of #### was disgusting. Needs a decent clean. Wouldn't be recommending it personally.

we stopped in here on our last and final Day in Edinburgh, slightly hungover & very cold, we found a comfartable booth and the football was on which was a bonus on one of ,many screens.we ordered some food and it arrived in quick time as we were starving and very unpatient as we were Hungover, i had a club sandwich which was Massive with some fresh cut chips and my girlfriend had the steak sandwich which was devine. After the food and few drinks we perked up a lil and stayed on for the live band and watched the Live fight which the band stopped for which was brilliant.

Great bar watch the Celtic games in there all the time. The atmosphere in there is brilliant and the staff are so welcoming and friendly

Had a great afternoon at McSorleys Edinburgh yesterday for the Celtic game so pleased The Malone's jinks is finally gone for our team, I have to admit the changes from Billy Lowe since he has recently taken over are great, speedy staff, halftime & full time music perfect for the occasion, definitely great new home of Edinburgh Celtic Supporters.

I was really happy to come across this bar in the heart of Edinburgh with my mates. It's got great deals for students and the food is also great. The staff are very friendly and there is so much room for activities!!!!

As someone who has gone to this pub numerous times when it was Malones, thought this would be the ideal...

Local muy grande con varias estancias y mucho ambiente. Hay pantallas grandes para ver los eventos deportivos y suelen tener alguna promoción o fiesta. Tienen mucha variedad de grifos de cerveza y comida, aunque una carta limitada, no está mal. Suele estar bastante lleno, muchos estudiantes, pero hay espacio.

Personal encantador y amable. Sin embargo, un lugar ruidoso, así que no es un buen lugar si quieres conversación! Las bebidas son lo suficientemente buena

We went to McSorleys for a beer before our evening meal elsewhere, it's a fairly basic 'boozer', very big place with sports which is good but the place was let down by the lack of cleanliness and overall smell. I was served a pint of Guiness in a dirty glass which was very disappointing. It would have been lower than 2 star but the staff were really nice. Not sure I would go back though.

Alhoewel niet goedkoop kan je hier een aantal mooie Schotse bieren kopen, denk dan wel even aan 5 pound, zo een 7.5 Euro, dus goedkoop is het allemaal niet! Prettige bediening en leuk om naar toe te gaan!

There are HUGE screens which are perfect for seeing all the live sport action, no matter where you are in the bar. Incredible, buzzing atmosphere!

the food it's what left us speachless! relly well done to the chefs. service was also really good.We would definitely be back and make it our usual spot if it wasn't that we live on the other side of the world. highly recommended.

I visited here as part of a hen party. We arrived late afternoon and had plenty of space to drink, dance and eat. Food was amazing and reasonable. The highlight of our visit was Andy "the dancing barman" very obliging in any music requests we had no matter how cheesy we stayed until closing and had a really fun day! looking forward to returning again!!

Visiting Edinburgh we HAD to go into an Irish Bar for a drink (extra cold Guinness and very nice it was too!)We were surprised to have to queue to get in, even though it was probably only 5 minutes. Annoying in the drizzle then also to find the bar wasn't exactly packed when we got inside.Took ages to get served and got talking to some lovely Irish lads who were also moaning that the bar staff had no order in which they were serving. No wonder it was 3-4 deep at the bar in places.However, having said that, the atmosphere was good and we had good craic whilst we were in there and we only ever intended to stay for one drink anyway en route to get some food.

I'm not normally a big fan of 'theme' bars, I'd rather somewhere individual but this place had a number of advantages. Firstly, it's huge; two bar areas and an upstairs mezzanine. A stage where a guy was playing live music. Enormous screens to watch sport (which is why I went). Prices are mid range but there's a loyalty card scheme if you were a regular. Staff were pleasant.

Place was good asked to leave by a bouncer as and I quote stumbled. Didn't argue as I had a few drinks and I myself work as security but was shocked as I was barely tipsy. Would have been a good experience if not for this overly cautious doorman. Note the doorman was however polite over the matter though he did bring my night to a swift end which was upsetting.

Popped in here as we were heading by, The bar is large and has plenty of seating, they are geared up for showing sports with a huge projected tv screen.The cost of the drinks aren't too bad and a Guinness always go down well.

we booked a table for dinner, and from the phone call till the last drink we were really impressed with the service, food, entertainmant and friendliness of the whole establishment. My only complaint was the language and general behavior of the door men, who were disgusting crude and not a great welcome for such an excellent establishment, as a smoker i made a few visits to the front door, and witnessed some really unacceptable conversations and comments made by the bouncers especially to females on the passing. Other than that I would recommend this pub.

We were over in Edinburgh at the same time as an Ireland and New Zealand rugby match was one, so naturally we went to find and irish bar to watch the match. We found Malone's Irish bar, which was pretty busy, we were kind of shocked at the amount of irish who had turned up to watch the match. We got our drinks and went upstairs to a huge projector, and in the middle you could see right down onto the bar and the downstairs which made for a great atmosphere. This was the best bar we have ever watched a match in, the atmosphere was amazing and the fields of athenry was sung every time Ireland scored a try. It was the best "craic" we have ever had watching a match, if only it was really in Ireland !

went in on a Saturday afternoon so wasn't busy. Service was fast and the food good. It got busier right before the Wales/Aussie rugby game started up but did not affect the service. it was really fun.

7 p.m on a Friday night ... Young bar man poured my gin and tonic in a half pint glass. I said I didn't want it in a half pint glass so he changed it then proceeded to fill it up with more tonic ....never asked for more tonic!!!the lady in charge was of no help. She asked him ,what was the problem was!!! Sorry but the problem is .... You have to train staff on the simple everyday request ... ...obviously this is not a gin and tonic bar ..

After a long day exploring the sights of Edinburgh we were looking for something to eat near Greyfriers Bobby. We went around the corner (away from the Royal Mile) and found Malone's about a block away. A slice of Ireland it was - down to the Irish bartender. Since it was the middle of the afternoon and not raining, we ate our fish and chips and drank our pints at a table out on the sidewalk. Great atmosphere and fun staff.

We went in for a Sunday roast and we wasn't disappointed…very nice, lovely thick slices of beef. Reasonably priced too. Would recommend.

Went for food and drinks. Lovely bar inside. Lots of screens for the sport. Alcohol was cheap. £2.50 for a can of cider. We had burgers as well. Cooked well and tasty. Friendly staff.

I stopped at Malone's with two friends in the middle of the day and we had a great time! The place was pretty empty so I can't comment on service (it was good but not representative), but I can say that everything else was great. I ordered the beef with Guinness: it was the perfect dish, full of flavor. We also liked the decor of the place, which gave it a very authentic Irish pub feel. And our waiter was friendly and helpful, which was a great bonus!

Big room, live band, place was packed. Well it was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival time. Whilst the floor was packed there was still room round the edges to set down your pint and coat and get onto the dance floor for some modern Irish rock.

Just a solid pub with great food. there is no table service if you go there to eat,so order at the bar and you won't look silly waiting for a server to walk up.Try the haggis balls.

Nipped in on Saturday during the festival whilst waiting on friends I had the chicken curry it was lovely. BIg portion size that was piping hot. Will be back for the curry.

I'm from Ireland and have lived in Scotland for 12 years. For the love of all that is good, don't go here, and if you do, please don't think it is 'Irish'. It's a place for people to get super wasted, floors sticky, standard drinks selection etc. It's not cosy or charming either. Just a big space for people to watch sport or dance like looney tunes at night. For a nice drink, pop over the road to Sandy Bells. For an Irish Bar, go to Ireland, no?

Went to Malone's to get a genuine irish pub feeling, but had to leave without it. Standard range of beer and drinks. The interior was sticky. The biggest disappointment was the music, because it was not Irish, rather top ten radio hits. Did not try the food.

A truly awful dump. I had booked ages ago and confirmed the booking 2 days ago. When I got there they spent ages looking for the booking and couldn't find it. There was a Celtic match being played that night and so they turned up the volume on all the tv screens and we couldn't hear anything apart from the tv. Hardly any change from £10 for a glass of red and a pint of beer.

Nachos had been microwaved, so were soft and the cheese wasn't melted properly and was cold in parts. Served with sour cream, guacamole and tomato ketchup!!!! What happened to the salsa?! Worst ever nachos I've ever had. However, the rib eye steaks were lovely.

Went to Malones on Wednesday 12 July, wasn't very busy, as you walk in there is a strong weird smell, like really bad damp, which is a bit of a put off. Went to the bar, there were 2 staff both standing at a till, the guy seemed to be doing something, the girl was just having a wee chat and giggling away, they had seen us walk in, but neither came to serve us, the girl then looked around the guy, seen me, and carried on with her chat!!! I had to call one of them and ask if they were serving, then reluctantly the girl served me. We ordered food, sat at a table and the food was nice, and decent size portions, nice and hot. One of our group went to the bar for another round, both bar staff were down at the far end of the bar texting, making no attempt to see to customers and serve drinks. He had wave to them for while before they eventually decided to stop texting and serve him. After that drink we left, if staff cannot be bothered serving, we cannot be bothered chasing them. If this is the standard of the bar staff, then the owner needs to be having a serious talk with them, as they must be losing a lot of potential revenue by poor service. Doubt we will be back, even tho the food was nice, steak sandwich.

Went there with friends on Saturday night. You could feel the Irish vibe within especially when live band went on the stage to satisfaction and delight of locals Bit pricey tho, but not everyday you are going to nice place like this.

We stopped for lunch here while visiting the city. Can't really say much about it. It was your normal pub food. Nothing special but nothing great neither. The only thing that saves it, is the nice service. Food was only ok.

Amazing lunch had at Malones, we got a deal on groupon ... £17 for two rib eye steaks (one with chips the other with new potatoes) peppercorn sauce and a side salad, washed down with a few drinks ... Service was fantastic, really friendly guys at the bar & waiter really made us feel welcome! ... Cooked to perfection! Well done & medium rare! Great surroundings too ... We will definitely be back!

En recherche d'un pub pour un repas rapide et pas trop onéreux, nous nous sommes arrêté (sans regret) par ici. La salle est surprenante, et rien ne laisse présager de sa taille de l'extérieur ! Le service fut rapide et efficace, et les plats servis largement satisfaisants. Parfait pour une halte de midi en pleine visite de la ville !

I can't speak to the food here, but my friends and I went for the Tuesday night dancing and it was great fun! It cost 5 euro to get in, but you get a pint with it, so it's a great deal. Lots of options at the bar. The energy is high and the atmosphere is welcoming. If you're in Edinburgh on a Tuesday, dancing is a must!

I came here randomly for dinner. The place is pretty beautiful and the bar tender was helpful. The food came out quickly (although the place wasn't busy, so that might have affected the time). The Mac and cheese was absolutely fantastic and was a good portion. The presentation was beautiful, and it even came with a little salad. I didn't have any alcohol, but there seemed to be plenty of options. Great place!

I brought my friend to this restaurant. She was really constipated and suffering for the whole day. However, after the fantastic fish and chips she had to run to the toilet straight away and was very relieved afterwards. Later she had to go again and I have never seen her so happy in her life. Highly recommended!

Went here for the Irish V Wales Rugby game. WOW we chose the right place! The atmosphere was unreal. Really wouldn't get it in Temple Bar, Dublin!Plenty of bar staff but not a lot of seats, we didn't mind standing for the game.Loads of screens. The pub grub smelled good to those with a few drinks in them!

Visited here for the first time with a young chap I assist along with his other PA and it was FABULOUS !Quiet earlier on as it was midweek, the staff could not if been anymore helpful when we needed wheelchair access. Very obliging when we ordered half portions and cleared space for us to get through with the chair.All the staff were very easy going, helpful and pleasant.Will definitely return when I am not working to sample the Guinness !Thanks guys :-)

On our way to catch the 35 to the airport, decided to have a few drinks. Would have gone to Doctors but it wasn't open yet! Absolutely empty, but it was pretty early. Good beer and the food sounded good. Lots of dark wood around, so quite dark.

Lieu très surprenant qui vaut l'arrêt ! Boiseries magnifique, typiquement irlandais. Super ambiance et choix de bières et autres boissons. La nourriture est très correcte. Nous avons testé un plateau à partager. Bon moment !

Visited alone. Was very quiet so perhaps not a fair assessment but lacked atmosphere. Bar staff more interested in talking among themselves than engaging with customers. Average pint at above average price for the area.

It's near the university so obviously has a good student crowd most nights. It's a frequent stop on most pub crawls and I've been a time so two. Drinks are as usual, pub has a rustic feel to it. Nice space to chat, drink, laugh and observe upstairs.

Staff as friendly as ever, food range excellent and with healthy portions. Quiet at lunchtime. But they have stopped stocking my favourite Samuel Adams beer !

Bastante amplio, muchas marcas de cerveza, música en directo, wifi gratis....... qué más decir.Hasta pudimos ver el Madrid—Barça en tele grande.

We just had a few drinks here and can't fault it staff were friendly and so were the locals, they also have various events here so worth a visit if your in the area!

Visited here to watch the rugby,big bar with lots of tvs but very little seats,standing for almost 2 hours watching the match wasn't easy on the legs,if they could sort this then I'd watch every match here

Arrived here approx 8:30 , place was full of very drunk young people , falling all over the sober people !! One guy passed out in the middle of the dance floor . But the RUDE staff continued to serve them drink . From the get go the filthy toilets had no toilet paper and the entertainment was dire .

Was recommended here by a barman at another bar the night before, excellent choice! Food was tasty and very filling, the lunch menu is great value for money. Defiantly recommend and will return when next in Edinburgh.

Un gran pub con un muy buen ambiente, música en directo todas las noches y una enorme cantidad de cervezas. La ambientación del pub está muy lograda y hay mucho espacio tanto para poder tomar una pinta tranquilamente después de un largo día de turismo como para disfrutar de los conciertos y bailar un poco.

I have been a student living in Edinburgh for 3 years now and I still return to malones every week. Amazing Irish pub that serves reasonably priced drinks, and for students with a snapfax you get extra discount midweek. There is often live music which so far has always been fantastic. St Paddy's day is not complete without coming to this bar. Although I have never had food here, my friends have and they say it is good and very cheap, so no complaints! Definitely worth a visit.

Turned up here at the end of an organised pub crawl. Should have gone earlier on in the night as missed the live music and the atmosphere had gone. Shame, sure it's a grand place when full and has music on.

Only stopped for a couple on the way up to a show but what a brilliant lay out for a pub. The back of it has great big screens and stage for live music and can imagine at the right time this would be jumping. Was in for Scotland rugby game so wrong colour for here but great venue, served quickly, loads of tables etc.
