Walked in, needed a nice room. Another bunch refusing to take cash. But will allow you to book online with a stolen, or found, card. Two people on reception. A bloke on the telephone too busy to see to the queuing potential guests. Waited almost ten mins, and walked out. I'm glad I didn't stay there, as I hear it's pretty dingey, and the room prices were far too cheap for my liking. Bad house by name, bad house by nature! Don't bother, unless you're a cheapskate.

Really disappointing vegan menu. The pea and watercress soup to start was acceptable, however, the main 'harissa roast heritage carrots' was possibly one of the most disappointing meals I've ever had the displeasure of eating. I am not exaggerating when I say there were three carrots and a white sauce and some harissa. To make matters worse the vegan dessert was a partly defrosted fruit salad, watery with chunks of ice... How can you possibly make a fruit salad so poorly? Can you please put some more thought and effort into your vegan options.

When we arrived our OpenTable reservation could not be honoured. We were “allowed” to eat at the bar and order from the restaurant menu as a concession because we complained. The team were so friendly & helpful when setting the room up before & it had great facilities. The food was delicious & had a great choice of options to cater for all needs. The value for money was amazing & everyone commented on how lovely it all was. The location was also great for people needing to get trains home as it across the road from Piccadilly station. Power sockets next to the bed did not work. No hand lotion or body lotion. No toothpaste, vanity kit etc. Loud outside noises, couldn’t sleep with tram and constant sirens and other guests - no sound proofing at all. Rather pick a hotel with sound proofing and a little off the main road/tram route. Cold water tap in the shower didn’t work so had to have a bath. Some tv channel sounds did not work so left with only 2 channels at some points. the channel signal of these was very bad so that you could barely watch as the screen blurred constantly. Bed duvet was a double inside a king cover on a king bed so it was very awkward to sleep in and you have to still use the king bed like it’s a double! Rust on the bath, clearly very old rooms. Hair on the duvet. No turndown service. No fridge in the room to keep left overs or any drinks or fresh milk for morning coffee. Coffee at breakfast came out machine ice cold. Breakfast was very limited and no cheese or meats on offer for the continental at all. Eggs Benedict was good but I’d rather go to a place with a good buffet breakfast as you then get more choice, more food, and can mix and match, all for the same price. Nespresso pods in the room were all damaged so they didn’t work in the machine. Absolutely cannot stand disappearing feather pillows, wish they had a choice of pillows. Mattress was comfortable and tv was a good size. Staff were friendly.

We booked for a Sunday roast. We arrived and we’re told that no roasts were available due to them being quiet which is disappointing as that’s the reason we booked. We all ordered steak and I have never received such a badly cooked order. Mine was ordered medium rare and was medium. Other family members had a rare steak which was more cooked than the medium rare. Making a mistake for one is understandable. Making mistakes for all is unforgivable. At this price point, we paid a fortune for awful food. The chips were nice if that’s any consolation. The only saving grace was the servers. There was an English gentle man and a European lady and they were great. They didn’t check how we were getting on with our meals as this would have given us an opportunity to complain. There were about 5 other people in the restaurant so I’d hate to see them under pressure. We were given a discount as one of the servers saw the state of the meats which was appreciated. Regardless, will never go here again and we had to pay a premium for abjectly average food.

This was a celebration of our friends 65th birthday, it was apparent that the menu had changed and I was disappointed to find that my favourite main courses (2 of them) had disappeared from the menu. however I was far from disappointed when we all shared a huge Porterhouse steak which was cooked to perfection. I thought that the main course could have arrived with some form of potato dish, veg or a salad, but this was not to be and we had to order these from the side dishes on the menu. All in all a good night and a near perfect celebration, thank you to Malmason.

I have been here previously and had a good experience so I wanted to celebrate the birth of my child with some friends at what I thought was a good restaurant. Unfortunately, it was not good on this occasion. The first negative was that we were given out of date menus so when we wanted to order, the food was not available for some people in the party; no apology was made for this. Once we did order, the food took a very long time to arrive especially as we were there at lunch time and the place was empty. When the food did arrive, it was clear that one of the steaks was smaller, overcooked, and generally of poorer quality than the others, so we sent it back. It took another 15 minutes for another steak to arrive and the staff did not offer to replace his (now cold) chips which were a £5 side order! The waiting staff we had were generally inexperienced and pretty poor so made a catalogue of mistakes. Considering the price of the food and wine at this place, it was a completely disappointing experience.

The night in question, me and my partner had got engaged, I picked Smoak as it been my favourite restaurants for a number of years. The food on the night was very salty and both me and my partner left more than we ate, we were asked on the night of the food was ok, not one to complain I didn't take this to the waiter but when ask was honest with my feedback. To be fair to him he provided us with two drinks I was not charged for. But thinking back i paid in excess of £100 that evening and we ate on the way home. This is first and only time I've not eatin all my food at Smoak, an would judge it as a one off, but it was my partners 2nd visit and I doubt I'll be convincing her with ease to join me again. I really hope it was a one off and not a sign that Smoak is loosing it's edge on other restaurants in the city centre. Thanks Mike

I dined for dinner with a friend. The service was very good throughout our visit. My guest ordered olives while we waited for our starters. My guest was pleased by the variety served their fresh taste. For starters we ordered Scallops served with bacon and pea purée. I thought they were enjoyable as the combination always works well when cooked correctly. My guest commented that they were the best Scallops they'd had in a long time and was impressed by how fresh they tasted. My guest ordered a main course of pan roasted Black Angus New York strip steak 550g, which they felt was a quality steak cooked to perfection and served as requested. I ordered the catch of the day, which was Lemon Sole. My fish main had far too many bones for my liking and the accompanying potatoes were served cold. However the Lemon Sole was cooked to perfectly. The dessert was a pleasant end to the meal. I had a rich dark chocolate tort, and my guest tried the ice creams and sorbets.

When I rang to make the booking the lady I spoke to was very polite and informative. We arrived at 2.30pm on Saturday 2nd July and the table had been set up for us. We started with hot drinks and then the food arrived. Wow - what a great selection. We each had a fruit scone, hot smoked salmon & crème fraiche wrap, chipotle chicken & avocado wrap, a mini burger, strawberry & vanilla pavlova, salted chocolate brownie, lemon & polenta cake, rhubarb & custard trifle, strawberry milkshake and a glass of champagne. We ate so much we thought we'd burst. The staff were very attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was busy but we didn't feel rushed at all. The restaurant is trying to be something it's not. Visited many a years ago before the restaurant was refurbished and it was a pretty good standard back then. Recently took advantage of the 3 course for £24.95 offer. The squid starter consisted of 4 pieces of overcooked and chewy squid. Substituted the main with the fillet steak tartare from the a la carte menu (paid the extra) but was very disappointed with what I was presented which resembled a small dish of mashed up dog food with heaps of capers and about ten fries. The only positive thing about the experience was the friendly staff. Not much choice of dessert unless you're a cheese or fruit fan and we left still hungry. Wouldn't visit again.

Got off to a poor start on a busy Friday, wanting a drink at the bar before the meal with a Polish (?) server - after we had waited patiently for almost 10 mins to get served - wanting us to go find a place to sit (there were none) and he would send someone over; then he complained he'd have to set up a tab and he only served us when I said I'd pay immediately. How odd. Whilst he was filling our orders, other servers approached us with a much more helpful attitude.Luckily, once we sat down in the restaurant, everything was much better. There were four of us; three courses each and all thought the food great. The scallops were sublime and the Angus Rib-eye mouthwateringly good. One gripe here is that some meals came with e.g. potatoes whilst others did not and so you had to pay £4 for a side (which is quite expensive). Service was excellent - attentive but not overly-so. Well-recommended.

This brasserie/grill appears to be aspiring to being more than the regular Malmaison brasseries, offering a range of steaks, up to the 1kg sirloin for £65. Given that they failed to even deliver on the regular menu I think they're aiming a bit high to trust them with high end steaks (or wine). The service was really slow, despite us being the first sitting of the day and the restaurant being virtually empty. We had to wait nearly 45 minutes from ordering, with no apology for the delay. The food was just average, my wife's fishcake being bland, and under-seasoned, and my burger not being evenly cooked. Though the fries were really good. The wine was equally average (Chenin Blanc & Pinotage, not the cheapest wines on the list), despite them advertising that they take pride in their wine selections. This was below the standard of other Malmaisons I've eaten in, which are generally of high standard. Given the range of alternative dining options in Manchester I wouldn't return.

We had several cocktails, starters, main and desert and the food was good. The service was punctual and the cocktails well made.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon as we had a gift voucher to use. Unfortunately the restaurant closed at 3pm so we ate from the bar menu. The food was ok but nothing special, and the once buzzing bar area was disappointingly quiet. It also took about 20 minutes to deduct our voucher from the bill which was strabge to say the least!

Myself and 3 friends visited the brassiere for the Sunday lunch yesterday. Our waitress seemed new as she took away plates whilst one of us was still eating but she was lovely and friendly and very efficient with the ordering. We had the unlimited starters which was devoid of a tossed Caesar salad (you had to DIY it) but the hot smoked salmon, charcuterie selection, breads and pates made up for it. The mains choices were excellent. My friends blueberry pancakes were rubbish so we sent them back and some delicious ones reappeared. We also send back 2 of our 3 creme brulees as they were not brulee'd enough. They came back still not brulee's well. The chef needed to learn to use the blow torch well! The food was good for the the price. The drinks however are exceptionally steep. Mimosas are £12.50 each. good but this isn't the Champs Elysee.

A second visit, reasonable value overall. The waitress service was very good and friendly, the appetisers and steaks were consistently good following our fist visit. An enjoyable evening. The restaurant gave 15% discount on local parking for our guests.

Service, atmosphere, food choices, drinks menu and staff all great. Attended a business informal dinner and was the perfect setting. Staff professional and friendly. Will definitely be recommending this restaurant and revisiting.

The place offers excellent steaks, I've tried fillet with sweet and sour sauce and it was melting in my mouth. I have had a salad with goat's cheese for the starter and it was not quite in my taste, although it was fresh and quite unusual. I especially enjoyed dessert - toffee cake that was just the way I like. Overall ideal place for a dinner.

Decided to try the chateaubriand deal; decent value and good quality. The bar for the restaurant had a decent buzz. It's a steak joint basically - ok if your staying in the hotel and want somewhere handy but I wouldn't be making a bee line for it otherwise. There are better steak restaurants at this price point if I'm honest.Nothing unpleasant about the place but nothing that was standout either.

This place has numerous pros, such as the wide selection of teas, sandwiches, cakes, scones, live music, location, even the staff, not to mention the atmosphere. I will gladly return to this place, anytime.

Questo è decisamente superiore alla media dei ristoranti di Manchester in cui ho mangiato. Ho avuto la sensazione che ci fosse una vera cura per gli ingredienti. Ho mangiato 2 ottimi piatti a base di pesce. Cibo curato e porzioni generose.

Came with a friend for an evening meal. After seeing much online about this restaurant we were excited to attend. It was very quiet for a Friday night - the booking system on their website was a little peculiar as it didn't let me book until around a week before the date, before this it appeared as if it was all booked up. When we walked in the staff were friendly and chatty and this great service continued throughout the evening. We saw the focaccia being prepared as we walked past which looked delicious. The food choice was limited, but what we did have was delicious - the panisse was a particular stand out. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and a lovely evening overall.

We had starters and main. Service was great, however flavours were a little average and slightly overpriced.

A visit to Didsbury on Sunday led to an impromptu visit to The Didsbury for some lunch. As it was Sunday my wife and I both opted for the roast option. Unfortunately it was far from Satisfactory. The plate was engulfed with a yorkshire pudding of epic scale whose texture was more like a meringue. The 'goose fat roasted potatoes' were virtually dessicated and tasted weird. The stuffing required an angle grinder to divide it into manageable chunks. The 'pig in blanket' was more a 'hippo in a hankerchief' (large sausage in the teeniest bit of bacon)... The turkey and gravy were fine though... We were offered some minted new potatoes to make up for the poor meal.. We declined.. This was our first post pandemic sojourn to a 'restaurant'.... I thought places were meant to be making an effort to win us back!!!
