Excellent room. Steak a bit underwhelming

Terrible overpriced food and a rude obnoxious tall skinny "chef" named Scott that can't take any sort of criticism.Stay clear of this shambles of a place!

We were given a Christmas Gift of a £50.00 Voucher and finally managed to go today we have been before but this was different We were welcomed with a smile The Food was excellent apart from some beef which very hard and not very chewable but apart from this everything was top notch with great flavours far too much to eat so the balance of our tea was very happily boxed up nicely to take home Service was absolutely top notch lots of smiles and when the ladies finished two gents took over and again smiles and great service It is very difficult to find fault today But I have find something very wrong !!! It was raining as we left with a very cold wind If you get a chance there’s a choice of two afternoon teas We looked at the Main Menu and definitely coming back my minds made up a nice T Bone steak for me

Visited for drinks on Friday afternoon. Went to the bar to order drinks but were told to take a seat and someone would take our order. We found a table upstairs and waited...but no member of staff appeared. My partner went back down to the bar to say we were still waiting and gave the member of staff our drinks order. A beer and a vodka. Sat for a further 10 minutes....but no drinks arrived. The table next to us had the same issue and left wishing us 'good luck getting a drink' as they departed. We waited another 5 minutes then got up and left also. Terrible service! They bar wasn't even that busy. Get your act together Malmaison as we've never experienced such bad service in a bar. Would not recommend and will not return!

Amazing service and fab food, set within a stunning building and decor. Never had a bad meal here, great place to relax and watch the world go by outside whilst you enjoy fine wines and tasty food. Nikos and his team are very attentive and always look after me and my guests. Highly recommend a visit.

Lovely lunch & cocktails! The cobb salad was very nice and the burgers are huge!! Very nice selection of cocktails, the rhubarb one is my fav.

All I can say is the people who wrote stinking reviews must have been really unlucky with their visit because we couldn’t fault it. Food at dinner and breakfast was faultless and the service was warm and attentive. Highly recommend the steaks cooked on the Josper grill. Beautiful restaurant too. Will visit again when next in town.

My wife and I booked a meal via the date night deal £205 for a bottle of champagne, a nice room and a 3 course meal each. It sounded like a very tempting deal as our local malmaison in Aberdeen has an very nice restaurant with a good reputation. This reputation is sadly not repeated at Dundee. The meat in each of our meals was nice but all the sides and garnish for each meal were not nice whatsoever and really let the meal down. For the prices of the menu this is a huge letdown. Think Waitrose cost but Asda smart price taste. Will not return as I did not react well to re food and have been unwell since

Un très bel endroit, très cosy. La viande "angus" était excellente et le service de bonne qualité. Seul défaut, l'éclairage trop faible empêchait de lire le menu, la lampe du portable a réglé le problème.

My husband and I were looking for somewhere different to have a drink and some nibbles. We found the Chez Mal. We sat at a window table which was cosy. We were served by Sara. Sara was friendly and helpful. The nibbles we ordered was the cheese board. Enough crackers and different cheeses with apple chutney and quince for two people to enjoy. Delicious! It was very quiet in the bar but perhaps that was because it was a Monday however it didn’t stop us returning for drinks later that evening after being out for a meal.

Visited for drinks before dinner on saturday about 5pm. Were shown to a table/seat in the maison level. Ordered our drinks, they didn't come in 20min - so we got up and left. Met the waiter coming up the stairs with them - but too late..... We only ordered 2glasses of wine and the bar wasn't particularly busy. never return (you expect considerably better service at the prices they charge)

My husband abd I booked in to have a meal here seperate from our 3 night room only booking. The booking was for 8pm and the was far from busy. By 8.30pm we still hadn't ordered our food after a 'misunderstanding' regarding what we gad actually booked. On initially making the booking we had seen the £55/per person new years eve deal but on seeing the standard and 'specials' menu we were hugely disappointed. There was a very limited selection and there was a supplementary charge applied to all but one dish on the specials menu, however this option was not available. I highlighted that I wasn't willing to pay £55 when we only wanted to pay for each dish bought but this seemed to confuse some of the staff. The 'manager' who was dealing with this then went off to 'sort it out' but in reality he went off to ignore us, serve other restaurant customers and he never came backto our table. Disgusting customer service! We even seen him later in the evening and again he ignored us. By 8.40 pm we still hadnt ordered our food. The poor female waitress who was excellent was then left to help us and silence us with a free bottle of wine. The menus were boring, the choices very limited, the supplementary prices ridiculous and the portion sizes and quality far below what would be expected from malmaison. Price your food appropriately! Would we go back to eat here? Absolutely not! Would I recommend eating here? Absolutely not.

Had lunch here with family at the beginning of December. Food was ok but when they had run out of stuff like dip for the flatbread then the flatbreads were served without. Not a word of explanation until queried. That happened more than on e and tbh we ended up not questioning it. The worst thing though there was no heating at all. It was freezing. I was so cold I was in pain when I left. We had two over80s with us so really not good. Never again Malmaison. I am or rather was often a. Visitor at the Glasgow venue but not any more. I get heating bills are high but it’s not acceptable to turn the heating off. Dreadful experience.

We booked for a small family gathering to celebrate a 92nd birthday. Although it was Saturday evening with a conference dinner also being catered for we were really well looked after. From the cocktails to the service and food it was night to remember. Big thanks to the exuberant table next to us the celebratory drinks, and a huge thanks to Paul, Adam, Marta and Jonas for the cheerful and efficient service.

Disappointing food. Starters were far too salty. Mains were mediocre at best. We had expected something more than average. Steak was very fatty and not cooked to request. Mozzarella and tomato starter....lots of juicy tomatoes but only 3 small cubes of Mozzarella. Empty prawn head deep fried in starter too.!!! Cocktails were delicious. The staff however were very friendly, welcoming and attentive.

There is an upstairs and downstairs arrangement with different bars and the possibility of eating out at the pavement tables. Liked the grand style in the dining room and you must check out the staircase. Eclectic menu with food well cooked and well presented.

The location was good, the rooms were clean & tidy, however the food was awful. At breakfast the food was often cold & they kept running out of butter, bowls etc. I managed to have gluten free cereal for the first 2 days but then they ran out & never restocked. Enjoyed dinner here last night. Reduced menu and covers due to COVID-19 but still a good selection. Nice cocktails from the bar. The côte de boeuf was amazingly tasty. Our waiter was excellent - just the right level of attentiveness and discrete too.

Ate in the bar on a Monday night. Staff were rushed off their feet - just not enough staff to do the job properly. Food was slow but ok; drinks were forgotten and had to be chased up - arrived well after we had started eating and had to be knocked off the bill. Plates weren't cleared. Went up to pay at the bar because I just didn't want to add to the waiting staff's burdens. Left a poor impression of what should be a landmark venue. You can't skimp on staff and provide the service expected at the Malmaison. Not the waiting staff's fault.

As one of a small group of ladies who wanted to celebrate the imminent arrival of a friend's baby (Baby Shower is a slight exaggeration here), we booked a table for Afternoon Tea. On arrival we were delighted to be given a small private dining room, with our own personal waitress. We chose the Mal Tea from the menu and the superb spread that was served was absolutely delicious and excellent value for money too. Can't praise the hotel enough for giving us such a lovely afternoon. Many thanks and we shall definitely be seeing you again soon.

We have dined here about 10 times over the last few years. The first 6 or 7 were great, however, the last few times have just been okay. The place looks great, however, there is an issue with draughts and heating, the last 2 visits quite a few tables kept their coats on, hopefully the issue can be sorted. The food has always been good if not excellent, however, the service on the last visit was not great, we sat for 15 minutes waiting for our order to be taken, then another 15 minutes for the drinks to be served, other tables around us complained about the poor service. Hopefully the service can improve.

We had afternoon tea in the Brasserie at Malmaison. Even before being escorted inside we were totally impressed. The entrance to this lovely old building is quite stunning and if you use the stairs instead of the lift you will feel like you are really ascending to something special! The food was tasty and tastefully presented with a few variations on the usual finger sandwiches. The staff were friendly and attentive and we will definitely be back!

Sometimes it's really nice to get away from the standard restaurants and go a bit posh. Malmaison regularly has ItIsOn offers for its various food options, and my wife and I took advantage of an offer for afternoon tea with Prosecco.Booking was simple and, on entering the hotel, we were led to the bistro Chez Mal where both the waiter and barman gave us excellent service, friendly but efficient. It's always a risk for someone with food allergies to try a range of dishes, but the waiter listened carefully and substituted dishes where appropriate.We had an interesting selection of savoury dishes (wrap, slider, salad, finger roll) with sweet ones (scones, smoothie, cake, brownie and sticky toffee pudding) and really enjoyed them, together with the tea and Prosecco served alongside.Although it was dark and windy outside, we enjoyed the overall cosy atmosphere of the bar and were placed right beside a window for a bit of people watching.A really pleasant experience.

Have eaten here 3 times - twice with husband and once with friends so feel I have given it a fair try. Food is average at best poor at worst. Overpriced for what it is e.g. Main from (market?) menu seemed a bit sparse didn't come with what I feel is essential for a main - some form of carb and veg or salad. Waiter recommended that we should buy at least one side ( substantial and made for sharing he said) so ordered hand cut chips. Couldn't believe it when he appeared with a side plate with 8 chips on it - very nicely presented but still 8 chips! Cost I think £4 - 50 p per chip. Told him to take them away as was not as described - substantial and made for sharing. You would certainly need 3 courses as described to feel you had eaten a meal.When with my husband they didn't have the first 2 bottles we asked for - and no alternatives! - a major chain! Recommended a White nearly 60% more expensive - we didn't bother. We also found the service poor - various people interact with you not one server so no continuity and staff vary from fine to awful. Twice we have had to physically get up and search for someone to get the bill. Never had a good experience here. We wouldn't eat here again - there are better places in Dundee / Broughty Ferry.

Visited for the first time for afternoon tea which was bought as a gift for our wedding anniversary. Arrived slightly early and had a drink in the bar downstairs. Went up to the brasserie and stood waiting at the ‘please wait to be seated’ sign for a good 5 minutes before a member of the waiting staff came over and asked if she could help (she’d had her back to us most of the time standing at the till station).We were told we could sit at any of the tables of 2 against the wall so chose a nice table and were seated. The waitress told us she’d be back in a moment to take our drinks order. We sat for a good while and she proceeded to take the orders of 3 other tables that had come in after us. She eventually came back over and apologised for the wait, took our order and went back to the till at which point she was approached by a gentleman on a table of 5 to say they’d been waiting over half an hour for a drinks order to be taken and asked if they could order food and drinks at the same time due to the wait. There appeared to be 3 waiting staff on but only 1 actually working.We waited 50 minutes for our food to come, which we thought was strange because the only hot item was the mini slider burger. The rest were all chilled items such as a wrap, mini brioche roll and mini prawn cocktail, fruit shake then cakes. The waitress placed the sandwich stand down and said ‘sorry about the wait, I don’t know what’s happening’ and then wandered off. The food looked delicious and well presented however the smoked chicken brioche roll was tasteless, the slider wasn’t hot and the fruit shake was lukewarm and tasted like watery milk.There seemed to be a lot of things going wrong with other tables meals and lots of apologies issued for either the wait, mix up with meals or it being too cold in the brasserie (3 tables all sat with their coats on). Most of the tables in the brasserie were having afternoon tea, another 2-3 tables seemed to be on a pre-prepared buffet which only left 2 tables on the full menu.I would like to think this is maybe a one-off however with an open plan kitchen the chefs could clearly be seen standing around on their mobile phones whilst people were still waiting for food, adding to people’s frustrations.The hotel itself is lovely and the decor etc is very stylish with a feeling of luxury however the customer service and food unfortunately don’t match the surroundings.

We were given an Itison voucher and this was the first afternoon tea we’ve had at Malmaison and it was different,not the usual club sandwiches but a mini burger each plus mini cheese salad wrap,a prawn cocktail in mini glass plus coranation chicken on mini bridge roll,washed down with prosseco,then scone,jam & cream with pot of tea and selection of cakes,coffee walnut cake,bake well tarts and Viennese swirls washed down with mini strawberry milk shake. Great service as usual.

Had a lovely visit for a burger. Staff couldn't have been kinder or more attentive. Have stayed before and wasn't over the moon, however lunch was smashing and staff went the extra mile to make us comfortable.

Bought on an itison voucher. Brew dog was down. Heineken replacement wasn't up to it. I'm sure the fries we were given were not "hand cut". Burger was okay unlike the "gob" of dried chewing gum under the table. No reason to ever return or recommend to anyone. Awful.

First visit. Excellent food. Monday night - so quiet - a mix of hotel guests and walk-ins. Steak well cooked and presentation - excellent.

We had the most excellent beef stroganoff here with a decent bottle of red - a very good meal and a place we would recommend although not cheap.

Unfortunately, a fire alarm had gone off earlier, which delayed our meal, but to be fair, the staff coped well. Food arrived, when it should, and was delicious. My only issue is in joined up thinking. When I booked a room in the hotel, the (Malmaison) website, offered an upgrade to dinner and breakfast, for £100, this included wine, (a bottle for two). There was a bit of confusion, when I wanted to upgrade from the house wine, first no you can't, to I'll find out, to yes we can. Also think, may have been overcharged, but hadn't the restaurant receipt with me, when we checked out.

I was so disappointed at the lack of fine dining in Dundee and hoped that the restaurant at Malmaison would change that. I overlooked being snubbed by the maitre'd, in hopes that the comfortable looking dining room would serve up something good. I put in my order and then was promptly forgotten by the waiter, who did not bring the water I requested and then served food to four other tables who were seated well after me.I finally had to remind him, and it seemed he had forgotten to put in the order, but there was no apology. (Aside form being just good manners, service people in particular should realize that an apology can go a long way.) The soup of the day was a homogenous blend of nothing distinctive. The salad was about 1/3 brown wilted lettuce. After that I decided against ordering a main dish. Overall, bland and poorly prepared food along with bad service. Too bad.

Nos alojamos aquí la noche para un regalo de cumpleaños de un miembro de la familia. La decoración, los alrededores, ciertas áreas de los productos en nuestro desayuno estaban bien, pero otras áreas de la comida que se servía no lo eran, especialmente el desayuno cocinado. ¡A un precio ridículo de 17 cada uno!

We booked lunch through iris on voucher last Friday. Have been several times before and enjoyed the experience. When we arrived there were on,y two tables seated. As the restaurant quiet we requested to sit at one of the window tables. We were told no and that we would have to sit at a table for two which was touching distance from two ladies beside us. It was uncomfortably close in a quiet restaurant. My main course fish dish was full of bones which the chef apologised for not denouncing the fish and I was offered my wine free of charge and a desert. I declined the desert. The waitress then came and took the glasses from the table and told me I didn't need to pay for my wine and left us feeling like we has been dismissed.

My husband and I went for a date night to the malmaison. We had 2 courses each and 2 drinks.

Last minute reservation, but in spite of that the service was prompt, friendly and the food was excellent. Would recommend the cheese board for dessert!

We were booked for an evening dinner mid week. The brasserie was busy and we were offered a table near the kitchen but saw a nicer table that had just been vacated. There was no problem having it and we waited just a few minutes whilst it was cleared and set. Lovely cocktail from an extensive list while we munched olives and flatbreads and dips whilst waiting for our meals. Fillet steak was tender and flavoursome but Rib- eye was a bit too fatty. Sides are extra. Desserts were delicious. Lovely meal and attentive service from friendly staff--Young Scott and his colleagues.Also a nice atmosphere and decor.

We had the Chateaubriand and Malbec for two, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The meat was decent quality, and perfectly cooked and rested (as it should be but so rarely is as it takes time). Friendly professional service rounded off a good night.

Met friends here for drinks later afternoon on a Saturday. Busy bar but got a lovely circular table booth.

We had 5 in our party, but a voucher for 4, but that was no problem. From the moment we entered the Brasserie the service was top notch, informative and friendly, nothing too much bother. Our voucher gave us a starter & a main course. I had the chicken terrine for the starter and it was delicious, I also had the pie and mash which was also delicious. I can honestly say everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. The portions are not huge, but we were full ! We also decided to pay the extra and have a dessert and again they were really good too. I thought the Brasserie itself was well thought out, it got really busy as the night progressed, but the tables are positioned well so we never felt we were being encroached. Can't wait till I go back.

We booked afternoon tea with a cocktail for four of us. Our drinks order was taken and we were asked if tea, coffee etc. One of our party did not like fish and they changed the menu a bit for her. Sandwiches, scones and cake were brought to the table and we were looking thinking omg how are we going to eat it all.Staff were lovely, attentive but not over the top. Fresh tea was brought when required. We got a box to take our leftovers home is. Would recommend to everyone to try it and will certainly be back.

I visited here with family just before Christmas for Sunday lunch. It was a set price menu £24.99 which gave us a visit to the starter buffet which was amazing, a soup which was delicious, a choice of main course including turkey and trimmings which I enjoyed, a dessert which was great and a glass of prosecco which went down very well indeed.

Food was average but lovely waitress made up for it. When my fav wine was out of stock Sophie went out her way to find me an alternative

From the moment we walked in Scott was the perfect host. We had pre ordered the chateaubriand deal which included two bottles of Malbec, Scott ensured our glasses were never empty. He was attentive and helpful when called upon. Looking forward to going back with my partner for the same experience. Cheers.

Staying at the hotel on a cold midweek evening we decided to dine in Mal Brasserie . No table was available until 8.30pm (a little later than we would have liked ) On entering the dining room at 8.30 , saw that little more than half of tables were occupied , perhaps we could have been accommodated earlier . Shown to table in a dark room , not intimate but dark ,we were only able to read our menus by holding them beside table candles.
