Malcolm Uphill in Caerphilly

I noticed the Wetherspoon Pub sign above a eating building & said we must eat there. It's The Malcolm Uphill. On entering the building at 2pm (ish) I was amazed how large the eating area was & how full it was. The cleanliness was remarkably striking, especially considering it was busy. On ordering at the bar, the young gentleman who served me was so well dressed & spoke beautifully, he was so very helpful & explained about the area for the tea & refilled. By the time I returned to my seat, our meal was presented. I was amazed, awe struck. The cleanliness, the peacefulness the swift meals

A lovely sized pub. The food was quickly delivered, although not as hot as one would like, However, burgers were lovely.. perfectly cooked.. not over or under done and served in a nice crispy bun. Lovely staff and patrons... a great atmosphere.

Went for food for hubby's birthday and the food was not the best was so disappointed

Ordered Jacket Potato, cheese and beans from the menu only for it to be delivered with hardly any beans. Complained to the waitress who told me to buy more beans from the app or the bar. As a regular I’m extremely disappointed.

We went on a Friday. Very busy. Staff very friendly. Chips were warm not hot.

Popped here before a trip to London. Great theming throughout the property. Staff were friendly, efficient. Service was fast. My chicken burger was somewhat dry but everything else was as expected. It's exactly what you expect from a Spoons and clearly popular with the liquid as it was only 1:00pm on a Thursday and BUSY!

This restaurant seems to be very popular with the locals. It gets busy during the week, but on the weekends it is really hard to get a table. The interior is typical Wetherspoons, but in this restaurant it is already very outdated and really needs to be replaced. We placed the order via the app, which is very easy to use. Drinks were served to the table after a few minutes by a friendly Waitress. During our many weeks in the area we visited the restaurant several times and the food was always good. You should also look out for special offers, such as steak night on Tuesday and curry night on Thursday. If you are looking for a good but affordable meal, you have come to the right place. I recommend the Gourmet Steak or the Buttermilk Chicken Burger. Don't forget to order some Wings or Onion Rings. Most meals include a Drink!

Saturday morning in Caerphilly and it's time to check out the breakfast on offer at the Malcom Uphill before we go off to see the castle and mooch around the town. Two traditional breakfasts duly arrive courtesy of a friendly member of staff clearly happy to be working the early shift. Wetherspoons traditional breakfast are hit and miss, it's the nature of the 'Spoons beast. Caerphilly was a beauty though, rarely had better. Cooked to a turn, even the toast had been toasted. You'd be surprised how often putting toast in for the duration of a cooking cycle is a bridge too far. Not today. The bacon was crispy and the sausage nicely done. While the poached eggs (swapped from fried without an argument) actually had perfectly runny yolks and solid whites. Ten out of ten, it was fabulous.

Ordered a large breakfast came really quick and was delighted until it arrived and I picked up the toast to find 3 blocks of butter in my egg yolk as it hey had just been thrown on the food why they didn't come with the serviettes anyway. I complained that these have been handled by numerous people and this is not acceptable by any standard but all the manager did was carry on about my attitude YES I was not happy but straight away sorry and your right would have eased the situation not continually stating I have an attitude !!! As I have previous management experience from past jobs and now currently bus driving I deal with the public everyday and complaining about someone complaining is NOT the way to solve anything first off IS the customer actually correct apologise and offer assistance comes to my mind so to me both the staff need training or discipline in food presentation and the manager in customer care ??? Absolutely shocking WONT GO THERE AGAIN !!!!!

Its weatherspoons, HOWEVER I have to be honest you can't knock it. I'd love to knock it, look fown my nose but its really very ok, like very very ok at the price. The day we visited it was packed because of the rugby. But the food was great, ok ok ok its basic but compared to other 'basic' (it's not fine dinning, obviously) pub groups it's better.

We ordered steaks and were offered ordinary or gourmet. Assuming gourmet meant a slightly better standard of steak we decided to order those. Well, what a let-down, and what a misleading term! Probably the worst steaks that we’ve ever had! In fact probably the WORST MEAL we’ve ever had! Gourmet apparently means that they come with peas and onion rings!! Wetherspoons has definitely lost its way. Never again!

Shocking food. Without a doubt the most piss poor burger and chips I have ever had the burger was 2 and a quarter inches across and slung together.. service was top but the food, christ on a bike

Enjoyable friendly place. Can appear busy but service isn't usually affected. Limited parking available as Located in Caerphilly High street but very close to the train & bus station. This place is one of my preferred choice of Wetherspoons & is always clean with friendly efficient staff .The large Seating/ dining booths are situated along one side of the pub & are great for groups. These areas have low lighting & great if having a romantic meal . The key for the ground floor disabled toilet is available free of charge ftom behind the bar. My only complaint being is that the toilet door opens straight out onto the seating area so therefore offers limited privacy. For the smokers / vapers there is an enclosed outdoor heated smoking area with sheltered canopy . This area can be accessed through double doors found at the far rear of the pub.

Only called in for breakfast. A little cold but at the price not worth making a fuss. Friendly service and great coffee 😁

As wetherspoons go, this is one of the better ones. Would I go again.....yes as its very reasonably priced. A very good real ale selection as well.

I've had some good times here. A great place for the boys to meet on the motorbikes. A good pint an good food .I always have the 10 chicken wings an sometimes breakfast👍.a pretty typical wetharspoons. But clean bar area an toilets . Very busy on a weekend with enjoying a few pints .a good friendly atmosphere.

Service poor Food poor Steak had a lot of grizzle Was warm Ordered cider but wasn't asked the waitress to change it and she wasn't very keen to do it, she then re ordered it and actually smelt the fresh pint and gave it to me! She explained it was the last of the barel I had to go and change it again !

I went yesterday and all I could do was laugh in the situation. Me and my friends were sat right infront of the pass ( where they bring out the food ). Me n my friend are watching just as we’re having a conversation. The man bringing out the food ate a couple chips out the bowl then brought it out😳🤣🤣🤣We we’re actually so shocked and we said lets check the name. Low and behold the tag said SHIFT MANAGER like oh my god can you believe it🤣. We understand spoons isn’t exactly a michelin star but that is just shocking lol. Regardless where u work have some class and don’t be dirty🤢🤣

I'm an American now living in Wales and rarely find American mustard in restaurants. That was not the case at The Malcom Uphill and it topped off a wonderful and juicy cheese burger!!! The place was packed yet we still received our meal within 15 minutes of ordering. Waiters and bar staff were excellent. We will definitely be back.

Great . Last Saturday it was busy in here , not had a spoons breakfast in along time and forgot how good it is. Service was dead quick smiling faces.

Absolutely shocking! Food arrives cold. Both breakfast cold. Last time it was a fridge cold apparently grilled tomato. This time everything was cold. Sent it back and waited another ten mins to be given cold breakfast again. All sent back now off for lunch somewhere as I'm starving.

Come here every week for Chicken Tikka and a Pint. Good food. Great value for money and great service.

It’s fair to say it was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a Wetherspoons The manager who was on shift on the 29th September was totally out of her depth. The person in question has no customer service skills no manors and no respect towards customers When I asked for a receipt for a void transaction she couldn’t provide one and the attitude was just and check you bank When I asked again for a receipt she said I getting the door staff to kick you out. On a positive note the door staff were very understanding and agreed with me etc well done to the gentleman who I spoke to

Usual Weatherspoons as they come. Food was served very fast as we ordered at the table. Tables sticky as usual in Weatherspoons, toilets are clean and upstairs. Quite busy in here for a Monday afternoon so must be popular.

I had breakfast with my teen daughter on a very busy Friday morning. It was bank holiday weekend, and there seemed to be a few parties arriving before they headed off for the weekend away. Even though it was very busy. The service was good and very fast. The food was good but not great. We will return but may be on a quiet day. All that said, the team did a great job on what seemed to be an unusually busy morning.

It's what you would expect from Wetherspoons, some of the furniture has seen better days but tables are cleared constantly and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Your usual Wetherspoons. Cheap, fast service and pretty clean.

Without a doubt one the best Wetherspoons I've visited, it's always good to have a decent spoons locally. The food is generally quite consistent in terms of portion size and quality, however during busy periods standards do tend to dip. I've only ever had to send food back on a handful of occasions as it was lukewarm, the portion size was on the small side or it was missing a key ingredient. The staff here are superb and genuinely friendly, the only issue being at certain times of day or on specific days you will struggle to find a table. Service is quick for drinks and for food the majority of the time, but you will experience longer than normal waits during busy periods. This is down to the fact that it's a very well visited place in Caerphilly and value for money, though like everywhere else prices have crept up a fair bit multiple times.

Wonderful venue for lunch and afternoon drinks. Great atmosphere during the day, changes somewhat after six at night. Food selection is excellent, plenty of beers both on tap and by the bottle. Cocktails available, also reasonably priced.

First time that we have been here since lockdown. Yes quite a while. As usual a great choice of real ales. I would like to give a special mention to the waiter who was working in our area. He cleaned every table as soon as it was vacated. I think his name was Jac he is a credit to this company.

Great service, food, and lovely, friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. We have been coming here for years on a weekly basis and are proud to consider it a ‘local’.
