Food is an absolute bargain! I love this Spoons as it has areas of the pub with a coal miners theme, with old tools etc. Which of course is due to it being in an old coal miners area. Only problem was that they were out of children activity sheets.

This is the worst Weatherspoons I have been in,beer is ok,the food I would'nt feed to a dog.my wife and I went in for a curry massala,the waitress came with only one meal.The one person serving behind the bar and taking food orders was pushed to the limit,and only ordered one meal.The supposed manageress was in the kitchen and charged me £10 for just a small bowl off curry with three pieces of chicken in for my wife after they brought us one meal to our table,which looked like it was scraped off other plates returned as waste.We were treated disgracefully,by this so called manageress,and the waitress came over to our table to refund overchargeing by three pounds,it already cost us nearly £26 for total muck.We will never go to a Weatherspoons again,thats for sure.

The Malcolm Uphill is a great Spoons. I didn't try the food, but the beer was good! Quite busy on a Saturday afternoon.

Typical Wetherspoons, nice during the daytime. I couldn't comment about the evenings as I don't drink. Food was nice too, exactly what you expect for breakfast.

Food was good for a Wetherspoons my husband and son said best Madras curry they had eating there. Only one person waiting on the tables. It was busy but she did a good job

Our local Spoons! It's great. It knows what it is and it's really good at it. Good honest food and beverages, no great frills - but that's not what you go to a Spoons for, is it? Plus, refillable coffee for under £2. Worth it in itself.

We enjoyed our large breakfast and Pancakes. It really is hard to beat a Spoons breakfast, especially for the price, the bacon in particular is great. I didn't catch her name but the team leader there was really friendly and courteous, apologising for the delay in service which we didn't notice and later checked back with us that everything was OK with our food, top marks all round.

This was my first visit to The Malcolm Uphill and it will not be my last. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I ordered fish, chips and peas which didn't take too long and it was excellent. Will go there again very soon.

Went there to watch the football World Cup final. The food was nice and cheap. The staff were very friendly and polite. The only issue I had when I was there was soon as the game had finished there was a bit of lads starting to cause some trouble and there was no security on duty that night so it was left to the manager and bar staff to deal with (witch they did with no problem at all) but it could of been avoided with security on duty. Some of the staff who had to deal with the problem was female and I don't think they should ever have to be put in that position. Having a few members of security might be a safer way for all the other members of staff and management whatever the price may cost.

This place is always busy = loads of atmosphere!

The pub is very tired and in need of a refurb. Tables not cleared , always a queue at the bar. The staff look generally unhappy. Sadly not the place it used to be.

Even though it was a busy day, we came for some food and was delivered quite fast. Food itself was amazing. No faults at all great service.

Lovely pub with a great friendly atmosphere and good reasonably priced food and drink. We attended the craft session here that they hold one Sunday evening every month...it was great!

Came in for a meal with my family as we were going to visit friends, we had 2 mixed grills with chips, chicken stripper burger, onion rings, garlic pizza bread and peppercorn sauce. The meat was tough and chewy, not very hot and the chips were tepid too. The chicken strips were hard and dry. We were so hungry that we just ate it, other people were complaining too. The waitress was lovely, the lads behind the bar friendly but the lady bar tender had a serious chip on her shoulder, she obviously doesn’t like the job! Will never return as it was awful.

Everything as usual Wetherspoon's but always seems very cold, you ask them to turn down air con and you get a take it or leave attitude. Cold food returned.

Stopped here on my lunch break this week. Very lovely service from the staff, the lady who was bringing my food was very lovely. The only downside was the woman who has a whole bottle of wine to herself at midday! But I guess that’s Caerphilly for you…. Would recommend coming here for food or drinks…. And a special experience

In Spoons, Caerphilly now on the day of a big running race in town attracting tens of thousands. Just 1 person serving behind bar. Were the managers asleep when race was announced more than 6 months ago? After waiting 20 minutes for my food asked extremely busy waiter if there was a problem and tol kitchen backed up but should get food soon. Another 20+ minutes asked again and told they didn't have the food I'd ordered. Got a refund for the food but nothing for time I'd wasted. The Malcom Uphill is not a well managed pub

Always busy! We ordered dessert which when it came was burnt. The staff were fantastic and brought out a fresh dessert straight away which was very nice.

Malcolm Uphill was a successful motorcycle racer in the 1960s born in Caerphilly who very few people have heard of. Tommy Cooper was a hilarious comedian/magician/legend born in Caerphilly who still gets seen on TV to this day four decades after his death. And so Wetherspoons moved into Caerphilly and the subsequent pub was named after the racer. We arrived early and ordered our breakfast in a largely empty pub. 8:00am truly is the time to turn up at Wetherspoons if you want a peaceful start to the day. At least in Caerphilly it is anyway. Brekkie arrived and it was Ok, I suppose. Nothing special, just a run of the mill breakfast that was warm, nudging hot in places. Hot bread, certainly not toast sat beside the beans that had whatever heat drained out them the moment they hot the freezing cold plates. The bacon and sausage was cooked adequately and the hash browns were dangerously hot. The pub was Ok and the breakfast similar.

Cheesy chips came out and you had to hunt for the cheese. When I asked for a little bit more, was told it would be another £1! 'Plastic' jam not real ham served and the meals arent cheap any more.The disabled toilet smelt dreadful and the booth light kept flicking on and off. Won't be coming here again

I noticed the Wetherspoon Pub sign above a eating building & said we must eat there. It's The Malcolm Uphill. On entering the building at 2pm (ish) I was amazed how large the eating area was & how full it was. The cleanliness was remarkably striking, especially considering it was busy. On ordering at the bar, the young gentleman who served me was so well dressed & spoke beautifully, he was so very helpful & explained about the area for the tea & refilled. By the time I returned to my seat, our meal was presented. I was amazed, awe struck. The cleanliness, the peacefulness the swift meals

Went in with friends and one of them was 17 ordered our food and non alcoholic drinks it came and a employee came and brought us the drinks asked for id and cause the 17 year old didn’t have an id she said she had to be over 16 and we kept saying she’s 17 and she said she’ll go and get her manager, 10 minutes later the manager (chubby girl) came over and said “did you pay with Apple Pay” I replied with yes and then she said “the money will be refunded within 3-5 days” then was told to get out in a disrespectful manner!! Then asked what if the money doesn’t come back do I come back here she later said “it will go back” 3 days later some of the money had come into my account so I was fuming and went back there as I was confused that some of the money was missing! Went down just now to go and see what was happening and they had told me that I was only getting refunded with the food and not the drinks which apparently she had told me sunday which she didn’t that all only the food would be refunded! She was extremely rude Sunday and today as I went in to just wonder where my money was, the drinks didn’t even come up to the cost that it was meant to be! 100% don’t recommend!!!!!

A lovely sized pub. The food was quickly delivered, although not as hot as one would like, However, burgers were lovely.. perfectly cooked.. not over or under done and served in a nice crispy bun. Lovely staff and patrons... a great atmosphere.

Ordered Jacket Potato, cheese and beans from the menu only for it to be delivered with hardly any beans. Complained to the waitress who told me to buy more beans from the app or the bar. As a regular I’m extremely disappointed.

Popped here before a trip to London. Great theming throughout the property. Staff were friendly, efficient. Service was fast. My chicken burger was somewhat dry but everything else was as expected. It's exactly what you expect from a Spoons and clearly popular with the liquid as it was only 1:00pm on a Thursday and BUSY!

This restaurant seems to be very popular with the locals. It gets busy during the week, but on the weekends it is really hard to get a table. The interior is typical Wetherspoons, but in this restaurant it is already very outdated and really needs to be replaced. We placed the order via the app, which is very easy to use. Drinks were served to the table after a few minutes by a friendly Waitress. During our many weeks in the area we visited the restaurant several times and the food was always good. You should also look out for special offers, such as steak night on Tuesday and curry night on Thursday. If you are looking for a good but affordable meal, you have come to the right place. I recommend the Gourmet Steak or the Buttermilk Chicken Burger. Don't forget to order some Wings or Onion Rings. Most meals include a Drink!

Saturday morning in Caerphilly and it's time to check out the breakfast on offer at the Malcom Uphill before we go off to see the castle and mooch around the town. Two traditional breakfasts duly arrive courtesy of a friendly member of staff clearly happy to be working the early shift. Wetherspoons traditional breakfast are hit and miss, it's the nature of the 'Spoons beast. Caerphilly was a beauty though, rarely had better. Cooked to a turn, even the toast had been toasted. You'd be surprised how often putting toast in for the duration of a cooking cycle is a bridge too far. Not today. The bacon was crispy and the sausage nicely done. While the poached eggs (swapped from fried without an argument) actually had perfectly runny yolks and solid whites. Ten out of ten, it was fabulous.

Ordered a large breakfast came really quick and was delighted until it arrived and I picked up the toast to find 3 blocks of butter in my egg yolk as it hey had just been thrown on the food why they didn't come with the serviettes anyway. I complained that these have been handled by numerous people and this is not acceptable by any standard but all the manager did was carry on about my attitude YES I was not happy but straight away sorry and your right would have eased the situation not continually stating I have an attitude !!! As I have previous management experience from past jobs and now currently bus driving I deal with the public everyday and complaining about someone complaining is NOT the way to solve anything first off IS the customer actually correct apologise and offer assistance comes to my mind so to me both the staff need training or discipline in food presentation and the manager in customer care ??? Absolutely shocking WONT GO THERE AGAIN !!!!!

Its weatherspoons, HOWEVER I have to be honest you can't knock it. I'd love to knock it, look fown my nose but its really very ok, like very very ok at the price. The day we visited it was packed because of the rugby. But the food was great, ok ok ok its basic but compared to other 'basic' (it's not fine dinning, obviously) pub groups it's better.

We ordered steaks and were offered ordinary or gourmet. Assuming gourmet meant a slightly better standard of steak we decided to order those. Well, what a let-down, and what a misleading term! Probably the worst steaks that we’ve ever had! In fact probably the WORST MEAL we’ve ever had! Gourmet apparently means that they come with peas and onion rings!! Wetherspoons has definitely lost its way. Never again!

Enjoyable friendly place. Can appear busy but service isn't usually affected. Limited parking available as Located in Caerphilly High street but very close to the train & bus station. This place is one of my preferred choice of Wetherspoons & is always clean with friendly efficient staff .The large Seating/ dining booths are situated along one side of the pub & are great for groups. These areas have low lighting & great if having a romantic meal . The key for the ground floor disabled toilet is available free of charge ftom behind the bar. My only complaint being is that the toilet door opens straight out onto the seating area so therefore offers limited privacy. For the smokers / vapers there is an enclosed outdoor heated smoking area with sheltered canopy . This area can be accessed through double doors found at the far rear of the pub.

Only called in for breakfast. A little cold but at the price not worth making a fuss. Friendly service and great coffee 😁

As wetherspoons go, this is one of the better ones. Would I go again.....yes as its very reasonably priced. A very good real ale selection as well.

Food was great, very quick friendly service, unlike the terrible tumble inn ( Pontypridd) everything was hot and lovely will definitely be coming here again
