Malancha Exclusive Indian Restaurant in Rugby

I can't refer to this place as Malancha as it remains forever in my memory as Omars. Last time here I had a very acceptable meal. But, mid week dinner several years later, with a different name on the door not so much. Pre booked a table for x3 at 19.00hrs and on arrival I can honestly say, I've had warmer welcomes from my dentists. Pre booked a table for three, mentioned that we had a reservation and the guy looked at us gone out. Bit like Katie Price in a library. Oh and as a fuller figured gentleman, some may say fat git (& they'd be right!) It'd be nice if they unlocked both the outside doors. So me and my mate sat at the table waiting for our colleague and eventually got offered a drink and poppadoms but we declined the latter until arrival of our friend who had driven from Birmingham to meet us. The cabaret consisted of one of the waiters picking his nose, then inspecting the fruits of his efforts and bashing on with serving the guests. Nice. We all agreed that the food was underwhelming. Cant be bothered to go into detail about the dishes we were served, perfectly edible but yeah, non of us had our taste buds entertained. Couldn't be arsed to have the conversation with them as I suspect any attempt to improve would've been fruitless. Look , try for yourselves, you may have a completely satisfactory meal, I hope you do so please - give it a whirl I was hopeful the son of Omars would be up to par but sadly my search for a good Indian restaurant in the Rugby area, like Lord Sugar looking for his next apprentice, continues. Booked online. Google showed as opens at 5pm. Website shows as restaurant is open at 5pm. Stood outside in the rain at 5pm and knocked on the door, nobody in the place, lights off, closed sign on door. Had email and text confirmation of 5pm booking. Shame, as I liked this restaurant. Went to Dun Cow instead and later looked across and saw open sign - need to open when you say you are open! Won’t be going back in a hurry

Love Malancha. Great food, chilled Kingfisher and always feel warmly welcomed. The guys who work here are brilliant, we consider it a local favourite.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Brilliant Service!

Food was very nice. Unfortunately this was ruined by the manager trying to scam us. He tried to say that the £15 meal deal didn't apply to the whole table as one person on our table of four didn't want the meal deal. He then pulled out a leaflet and kept repeating it's in the T&C's which weren't listed on the leaflet or sign. We even asked to see these T&C's and he had no answer to this, and also strangely enough he took our order and conveniently left out these imaginary T&C's. I even tried to find these T&C's on the website and still haven't found them. Scammers, we had to have a full on argument with the staff to get them to understand that they cannot reference T&C's that don't exist! Awful experience and very uncomfortable.

We thought we would try here for a change as we normally eat over the road. The poppadoms were lovely but then we were served someone elses food which was quickly wiped away from under our noses. Our food arrived shortly after but there wasn't much meat in the dishes and my prawns were of a funny texture. The waiter was too quick to take away our plates when we hadn't even finished the mere morsels we had been given.We were absolutely go smacked at the price for so little food. This place is an absolute rip off! Don't even waste your money trying it, go over the road to The Cinnamon Lounge as the food is nicer and at a fraction of the price.

I went here with a group of 14 friends and the service was really good. You could tell the food was good as there was a constant buzz of takeaway collections. The poppadoms we received were crispy & hot, with a tasty tray of Chutney and onion salad. The table was well attended with service and the Madras I had was tasty with a fluffy naan and rice. Overall the food was flavoursome and arrived hot.

Last minute booking. Samin was very accommodating, polite and knowledgeable of their menu. Food was delicious! We will definitely be back. Thanks Courtyard Dental

Been here multiple times over the past year or two. It’s a bit hit and miss. Sometimes the staff can be great, friendly and relaxed. Other times it feels like a hustle, try to upsell you more than you want etc. Visited last night - a big noisy party were in the back room. Service was slow and we waited 15mins to just order drinks. Food is generally good but as an earlier writer mentioned, you can order several different dishes and they all look and taste similar. Last nights chicken madras was mostly sauce with little chicken. Others had Baltis which were good. Naan and rice were fine. It used to be our go-to in Rugby, but the consistency is missing - you can get a wonderful meal or something quite average… it’s a pity…

I have never been to this restaurant before, but it was lovely and well kept. The food was fantastic, the whole party of 10 I was with thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Unfortunately I ate the food too quick to get any photos!

We came here to celebrate my birthday, and it did not disappoint!! The food was lovely and the waiters Shaoun and Samin were brilliant and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was fantastic! 5 stars!! Will be coming back!

Had a couple of Rogan Josh dishes as a takeaway, loads of food but no richness and no spice. Bhajis and naans were bland too. At least it was cheap!

What a welcoming, friendly and family orientated place! Lovely Food. I am beyond ecstatic at the service my work colleagues and I received today. It's become our family tradition to go to Malancha for a curry on new years eve,have done for a few years now. Usually a good experience not this time ! Booking was lost, squeezed on a table amongst everyone else although not fully booked in there at all, eventually took our food order for main courses ages after eating starters, as the waiter was taking out order was too busy looking in the mirror to watch the restaurant main door we might as well have been invisible!! The food was ok not as good as it usually is . Wasn't a good experience came away feeling very disappointed and wasn't made to feel welcome at all , was like they didn't want us there was a big chore !! So off our list from now on.

Had another takeaway for NYE. Pre booked. On time, piping hot and beautiful. Not easy when busy. See you in the New Year!!

Below average food and the fish/meat were all over cooked. Expensive for what was served. The fish sizzlers were almost £15 with 4 small pieces of over cooked fish. The waiter assumed you know his language and started speaking to us and we had to correct him to use English! Soda water had 0 fizz. Gin was served in a wrong glass. Should have understood when the restaurant was empty when we walked in.. Ambience of the place was okay. Definitely won't be visiting again as it's totally not worth it. Thanks.

The lamb biriyani is just so delicious and you can choose a different side instead of the usual vegetable curry...this is brilliant because my family get to try new things and our allergies are well catered for. I always have a takeaway so can't comment much on atmosphere, but looks amazing. The staff are always do kind and generous. They are attentive and always smiling and polite.

Samin and staff are always friendly and very helpful. Food and service was excellent as always. Glad to see that they have put the table cloths back on. Makes it feel more like a restaurant . Will be going back soon.

Ordered a lamb rogan josh for takeaway along with other dishes. 3 pieces of lamb,.the rest was onions and peppers. Very disappointed. Please avoid . Overpriced for the dishes they sell

I’ve frequented this restaurant since Omar originally owned and operated it for many years. The menu does not reflect the food! You can order three different chicken dishes and they look and taste the same but vary in price. The collection of chef’s special dishes are over priced variants. Yes, the ambience is nice but the food is so far off being authentic Indian or Bengali. So much sugar and red colouring in the food. Dunchurch is an upmarket village but the menu is overpriced as are the beers. Finally, there’s no Omar, he was the life and sole of the restaurant: always greeted is customers warmly and with respect.

Food was great. There was a bit of a mishap when one of the waiters knocked over the glasses (which smashed everywhere) when putting down the plates. The staff dealt with everything really well. Moved us to a different table, kept checking we were OK, had a free round of drinks & voucher for next meal. Couldn't ask for better service!

Decided to try here , really wished we hadn't. First impressions, no table cloths, table sticky, and paper napkins. Poppadoms and chutneys were nice. Had to chase our main course, az we appeared to have been forgotten. Mushrooms were tinned, jalfrezi consisted of whole uncooked chillies, uncooked onion, and crunchy peppers, no sauce or flavour whatsoever. Chicken madras not edible. Rice didn't appear, when it did, wished it hadn't. Tinned mushrooms in it, and looked/tasted like microwave bag. NO food warmer. Naan bread flat and cut into quarters. I can honestly say this was the worst curry we have ever been served. Went to pay, after leaving the table with the food still on it, explained problems, staff couldn't care less. £50.95 later, we had 4 poppadoms, a pint and half a glass of non fizzy diet coke. ABSOLUTE RUBBISH, will never return. It was worth £10 Maximum. If only we had stuck to original plans, Long Buckby Village Spice...

After waiting 30 mins for a take out and Spent £38 to have rubber chips, cold naan bread and dry popdoms. Normally go here and it's normally good but no not this time and won't be returning. Rang to complain and they said take number sort it tomorrow and put the phone down. Great customer service Had a call to apologise and a replacement meal today and was absolutely perfect will definitely recommended just how it should be, fresh, hot and taste so good will definitely go back again 😋

Regularly use Malancha and it's always fantastic. Mostly we order the takeaway which, be aware, usually has around an hours wait. So last week I ordered at 11.30am just so I could pick up on the way home from work at 5.30pm. 1st in the queue! Friendly staff and as always fantastic food. Excellence is worth the wait. The other great thing is the variety on the menu. Yes the favourites are on so Korma etc but I love the different meals you don't see elsewhere which are full of flavour. Try the Chicken Tikka Rothon Masala or the Chicken Badami both great but not spicy. They also give a discount if you order online over £35 using the Bookyup link. Worth a visit if you are anywhere near Dunchurch. Rick

Best Indian in Rugby, hands down!

Visited last night as a Father’s Day treat. Seated immediately on arrival. Drinks ordered . I had a Nargis kebab for starters and followed it with king prawn tandoori tikka masala pilau rice and a Peshwari naan. Excellent tastes. Service was very good. Will certainly go back.

Lovely meal, the paneer starter is amazing! Took my dad for Father’s Day and he even got a bottle of beer to take home! Will be back again soon!

Absolute amazing service and food overall a top notch place in our local dunchurch town. We arrived on a Saturday and got table straight away as the table was pre booked. Food was very tasty and piping hot. Polite and great customer service from the waiters can’t fault on that. Definitely a returning customer.

Came here as it had great reviews on trip advisor. Found the waiter hurried us which was a bit stressful. Husband had the chicken Korma which had a piece of wire in it, like a wire from a wire brush. Showed the waiter who took it to the kitchen and they took the Korma off the bill. By that time none of us much felt like eating.

The smell coming from the kitchen as we walked past promised a lot, but the very average food, with little to no discernible flavour did not deliver. Saag Paneer was bitter and overcooked. My main course lacked flavour and again, peppers were bitter, chicken didn’t taste of anything. My wife’s lamb was at least tender but again, didn’t really taste of much. Service was very good though, no complaints there. Maybe having an off night as we went on the strength of reviews here. However wont be going back.

We went to Malancha after my civil wedding. The food was good and the service was brilliant. Shah Rukh Khan looked after us all with prompt service. They were generous with their portions and nothing was too much trouble.

Thank you Malancha for making our post-registry dinner perfect for our families. The food and service was outstanding and they catered to all of our needs and small dietary adjustments for particular guests. They were fast with their service to us and special thank you to the one and only Shah Rukh Khan for sorting us out the entire night!

Food on time. Ordered over the phone for collection. But getting home we found the Naan breads were so under cooked they were inedible. The chicken in the pathia was dry and over done. Lamb tikka was just ok. Chicken Pakora was like it had been heated up in a microwave. Absolutely gob smacked about the price coming out at over £20 per person!!! Plenty of nice curry houses in this area. So won’t be using again unfortunately.

A celebratory dinner party. We had a wide selection from sizzling chicken tikka (succulent) lamb Karachi, lamb Achaea and chicken rajeswari. All were superb and contrasted wonderfully. Sundries from popadums to saag aloo we’re excellent. Samir advised and service was quick but not too fast. This is my first review of anywhere as I could not let the success of the evening pass without thanking Malancha. We have had takeaways from here since and the sizzling chicken tikka and lamb Karachi (we only had these dishes) were to the same standard as before. Friendly and tasty and reasonably priced.

After a cold wet evening fly fishing at Draycote reservoir last week, a friend and I decided to have an Indian meal. Excellent service and stunning food. We will be recommending you and coming again. Very keen attentive staff,you would think the young guys owned the restaurant. Nothing too much trouble.Well done

Easy to find, stunning food, great service and no hurry to turn tables and get you out the door. We travelled over an hour to visit and would be coming back for more. We wish more restaurants learned from great places like these. 👍

Terrible service. Took 2 hours for our main courses to arrive. They only brought out half the groups food and took 30 mins for the other half of the group. 2 of us were sat 20 minutes with our curry but no rice another guy was just given a bowl of rice and no curry. When I asked staff if my rice was on its way he just said ' it's coming', shoved an empty plate in front of me and walked off! It clearly wasn't coming though as I had to wait another 15 minutes for it! They charge a top end prices and the food when it did arrive was fine, but the service was a shambles and staff rude. When we complained they only took £30 off our £450 bill which didn't even cover the poppadoms. Have never left a bad review anywhere before but this customer service was ridiculous!

Absolutely terrible experience tonight. I appreciate this was a large booking but the service was the worst I have ever experienced! Food came out luke warm with some people waiting over 20minutes for the rice they ordered with their main course. Staff were incredibly rude. Mistakes happen but its how they are dealt with and this was not dealt with correctly.

We used our meetcat deal 2 for 1 offer upto 6 people - which means 4 people 2 lots of food free right well they tried to charge us just for one meal off on payment I refused false advertising food wasn’t the best either...

Place was empty at 1830 on a Tuesday night. But food was great and a takeaway king prawn jol with mushroom pilau naan bread, was really nice not use to cinnamon bark and massive bay leafs in the curry will definitely be calling here again. Thanks to the chef and for the service. One of the tastiest Jinga jol type meals I have had love king prawns in a curry dish.

Great little Indian in Dunchurch. Seated within 5 mins and table service was excellent. Portions and taste were on point, will return and highly recommended.

The food was fantastic and tasty. Good selection of meals on the menue. Everything else was disappointing. The restraunt could do with updating , the lights were flickering all the time. A member of staff was constantly checking the table and didn't say anything. We felt rushed and it was quiet. When paying the bill , the waiter was reluctant to take card payment and then hinted at giving him a cash tip. Very rude ! I wouldn't visit again due to the poor service.

I think they forgot our booking, tried to wing it and gave us bad attitude. I never write reviews but this deserved one! Booked to come here with friends and gave 3 weeks notice. We booked the lamb and chicken for 2 that needs to be marinated for over 24 hrs. Both at roughly £70 per dish and paid a £50 deposit and we requested a specific table. We arrive and seated at the table we didn't ask for. There are no sides that come with the dishes so we all ordered rice naan etc. We were then told the lamb for 2 was not available they only had a lamb for 4 at £109 (didn't tell us price increase) Took nearly 2 hours to arrive. Waiter was getting agro with us because we asked a couple of times how long. Not unreasonable in my opinion. Rice was brought out nearly ten mins before main which had been under the heat lamp for so long it had a crust on top. Naan breads were fresh and sides. Lamb was brought out in the roasting tin it was cooked in dumped on the table and then the put a chefs green handled carving knife with it for us to carve! Not enough room on table for sides let alone a leg of lamb. Then came the very expensive small chicken. Probably started out the size of a turkey but the length of time it was cooked is ended up very small again we had to carve ourselves. Dry as a bone. We had to ask for masala sauce to be able to eat it. When challenged about the chicken and its cost the waiter came back and said. Sorry this should have been 2 chickens (could have got them spiced and cooked for less than a tenner) Bill was £300 (Only 6 pints drunk). I would have disputed the bill but the friends we were with are kinder and didnt want a fuss!

A return visit that did not disappoint. Samin was wonderful as always when serving us and remembering just how we like things. We were also asked if all OK whilst we ate to ensure we were happy with everything. Lovely place to have date night,..booked...

Samin and khaleb are always amazing when we visit Malancha in Dunchurch. Always smart and friendly. Especially Samin’s hair which is immaculate. The food is incredible and the service is always friendly and with a smile 😊

We ordered take away for collection. Half the order was like warm. The lamb was tough and fatty. Sag paneer was dry. The cheese nan was awful. Our first and last visit to this place. Unfortunately, the worst Indian food I've had.
