Makan Makan in Richmond upon Thames

Ordered a takeaway from this restaurant, 5 piece of duck and special fried rice hoping to get something nice but was totally disappointed, the fried rice is over cooked, just pieces of prawns, nothing special about the fried rice which was way far over priced, the duck came in pieces, so tasteless. My worst experience and most ridiculous Chinese food I ever tasted 😩

Lamento decir que me decepcionó lo que pedimos. Era comida para 2 , entró en £ 53 . Los fideos de arroz de Singapur estaban bien, pero el pollo con anacardos y mini rollitos de primavera no sabían a nada. Muy típico imho chino ‘producido en masa’ de comida para llevar. Ojalá hubiéramos ido al tandoori de Katmandú en Twickenham -normalmente vamos allí y conseguimos una bolsa enorme de muy buena comida por aproximadamente el mismo precio- suficiente para alimentar a tres personas dos veces. Los contenedores estaban solo 3 / 4 llenos de este lugar también. Tengo que decir que algunas de las críticas brillantes me hacen sospechar un poco. Me temo que no volveré.

The cuisine was exceptionally delectable and authentically prepared. I sampled a variety of dishes, including banana fritters, which were delightful. The service was outstanding and truly unparalleled. I will certainly return and recommend this establishment to my friends. It’s a charming little venue, well-maintained and tastefully decorated. I noticed another review that mentioned they do not accept cards, but I was able to pay with my card without any issues.

Laksa Noodle is highly recommended.

Great Food, we always go there when we are in the area. Best coconut rice ever. I would g there just for that.

Expensive and poor service. Quite rude and unhelpful. Luckily the Indian place next door - Delhi Social is much nicer, would highly recommend.

Unfortunately it’s cash only and it’s not cheap! They take orders online with card payments, but when we asked if we could order online and eat in they simply said ‘no’. Strange for me not to take payments in multiple ways, cash only seems a bit strange to me. As Malaysians we were looking forward to having some Malaysian food, but were disappointed with the way we were spoken to. Luckily there is a really lovely Indian place next door called Delhi Social which had incredible curry and did take cash or card!

Lovely real Malaysian restaurant. You will need to book in advance because only a few seats are available. It is BYO and a Coop beside it is very handy.

We ordered: Chicken Kung po: delicious Chow mein: tasty Mee goreng: not the best I've had but nice Pork dumplings: bland Chicken rendang: worst rendang ever! It looked like bile with chunks of chewy old chicken in. Whoever made this has no clue! Based on this, I wouldn't order from here again.

Did a take out. Whilst the food is really good (would recommend the chilly shredded chicken, chicken in black bean and chow mein) I found the place to be a bit tight - on an order of £80+ there were no complimentary prawn crackers, wanted 50p for chilli oil and charged for the take away bag!! Come on, you can do better to keep customers!

Authentic Malaysian food. Fried noodles, char kway teow, laksa, beef rendang, sambal prawns..

Very accommodating, I'm not sure they normally get many suit down parties. 8 of us and everyone finished their food with no complaints. Top drawer!

While on a fleeting visit to the UK (I live in Malaysia), I found this great restaurant. Lovely food. I had the laksa and my companion had the nasi goreng. Really friendly service.

Just the best and also the most lovely owner lead chef. Definitely different to the normal Chinese food. Good value!

Just ten minutes walk from Twickenham train station. Absolutely love this compact eatery serving the most delicious Asian food. Put in our first order here this evening, and came away with a surprisingly delicious array of food… all quality stuff! We had their salt and pepper squid - nicely done, not greasy :: chilli beef - spicy and aromatic :: char koay teow – lovely flat rice noodles with egg and seafood :: their Makan-Makan nasi goreng with chicken strips, prawns, carrots, sweetcorn, beansprouts fried in shrimp paste and chili :: chicken satay with peanut sauce – woah! Lovely! Friendly , courteous staff in a busy outlet but performing above and beyond their pay grade

We had a superb dinner! The staff were lovely, attentive and quick. My family picked the spot for a birthday meal and it was amazing. Because they only have a few tables it was very cosy and we enjoyed options from a range of cuisines. Would come back for takeaway or to eat in!

Best Chinese in Twickenham! Makan Makan makes the most delicious food. They have a wide and varied menu which can, in some restaurants, compromise taste and mean everything tastes the same, but not here! Whenever we order takeaway we always order makan makan. The chicken katsu curry is especial delicious.

I have been eating at Makan Makan for many years but I’ve found the overall quality significantly reduce over the past couple of years. My feedback to the owners, if you’re going to put prices up then at least keep the quality going. The inflated prices do not match the quality of the food. It’s not too late but you need to up your game.

Whist you can eat here the restaurant is very small, only 5 tables! However we choose Makan Makan as our goto for exceptional takeaway The selection and variety of dishes are extensive. I cannot say I tried them all but the ones we have tried have been delicious Very much regular visitors

If I could give 0 I would. Ordered a delivery through the restaurant website which offers Uber Eats. Spent nearly £70. The website requested contact number and postcode and of course payment. Postcode showed up on the order confirmation actually incorrect, driver failed to call. Went to the house where deliver supposedly went, no delivery. Called restaurant and they were totally unhelpful. Don’t bother as have been left hungry, out of pocket and massively disappointed. Despite bad delivery review gave it a go, BIG MISTAKE

Some of the best Malaysian food I have ever had. The food is so good, I regard dining there as a priveledge. I can't recommend this food enough! Thank you to the owners for an amazing experience! See you next month!

Honestly, the best Malay/Chinese takeaway shop I’ve ever been in the UK. Very friendly and nice owner, homemade sauces were amazing, super authentic. I would recommend to anyone and everyone. Felt like home + more.

Eaten here for years. You have to try it to “get it”. I’m a very noodly person, so their fried noodles with their very own Sambal sauce was spectacular. fried koay teow too. Nasi Lemak - we wolfed them down too quickly 😁 The black pepper beef was YUM and we loved loved their salt pepper squid 🦑 very much.

As soon as you come in it feels like you are no longer in London. Great family run business with amazing tasting menu! Very authentic and delicious food! Definitely my new favourite spot to eat.

This is the best Malaysian food outside of Malaysia. There are thing available not on the menu So just ask. Very helpful staff

OMG..Walk past this place almost everyday but never thought of ordering from here. The owner/chef has definitely invested in the important things in a restaurant, the place does not look like it can produce the quality of dishes they delivered tonight, food was unreal, literally impossible to explain the taste. You have to experience the dishes to fully understand how amazing the chef is, how amazing the food is!! Try it once I promise it wont be the last. The vegetable spring rolls are absolutely out of this world

Good food. Personal favourites are Nasi Goreng, Char Kway Teow and the Singaporean laksa with vermicelli only.

We went here on the strength of good reviews we read but it was disappointing overall. The starter of chicken satay was good, the crispy duck was good, the two main courses we ordered were bland and greasy. The food was warm rather than hot. We were given a small oval plate for the starters and that was it, no clean plates for the crispy duck or the main courses. Really disappointed, we spent time in Malaysia and loved the food there but this was nothing like it.

The food was delicious, absolutely loved it and will defo be coming back again soon. The service was excellent and one of the best around.

Very friendly staff and what a little gem to find in Twickenham serving dishes close to home. Some dishes to recommend definitely the Laksa (they don't have it all the time so make sure you call), Nasi Goreng, Char Kway Tiao, Gado-Gado!!!

My wife and I stopped here for lunch today. This is a cosy family-run restaurant which serves very authentic Malaysian food. I had char kway teow and my wife duck curry: we both loved them! Highly recommend. We will come back!

Really bad experience. We ordered 4 dishes and we received 3 but of course they charged for 4 .After we call they didn't give any explanation and no offer to send the missing dish. They just deflected the responsibility to Uber Eats . The portions were small with very poor flavors.

I absolutely adore their food. It's very authentic Malaysian cuisine, generous portions beautifully seasoned and the prices are just very affordable. I often eat there with my husband and my son for the past 4 years ,3 mains ,couple of starters to share ,tea tarek for under 30 pounds. Highly recommend

This has been pretty much our only location of choice for a takeaway this year. Their food is fresh, non greasy and authentic. It is so good that it almost feels like clean eating it is that fresh! A really amazing selection of vegetarian options and alternatives as well. Really fantastic option for Veggies! Would 100% Recommend and having moved a little closer, we can't wait to eat in one day.

We've never had a bad meal from Makan Makan which is a stretch for most restaurants who cater for take out. Sadly we haven't been able to visit the restaurant in person but hopefully it won't be long before we can. Authentic, tasty meals that may sometimes take slightly longer to arrive than your usual take out food but you can be guaranteed it'll be worth the wait every time. We're still working our way through the menu but we're loving finding out our favourites. Such a fabulous find in Twickenham.

We ordered a takeaway on Uber apps at 620pm for delivery by 715pm. Did not get it until 8pm. Most annoying thing is when we phoned the restaurant it is not there problem as Uber eats picked it up “ages a go” and we should phone Uber eats if there is a problem as not there problem! Not great customer service even if true.

We ordered the crispy duck pancakes and katsu chicken curry from Makan Makan and it was the best we've ever had. We have been back twice since and had the same both times! Would HIGHLY recommend!

Makan Makan is a brilliant Chinese takeaway and restaurant. The food is delicious and fresh, and never greasy, as can be the case. They have a wide range of vegetarian options, all of which are great; I particularly like the vegetarian chicken satay, vegetarian duck and the tofu and vegetables in black bean. We regularly eat in, and the two ladies who run the restaurant are really friendly. An absolute gem.

I was severely hungover and fancied some noodles. Had been meaning to try this place for a while so ordered on uber eats. The makan makan mee goreng was delicious I'm no expert on Malaysian cuisine but these did resemble the ones I had when I was in Langkawi, they seemed they were freshly prepared too and had generous amounts of prawns and chicken. Would definitely order again. It hit the spot!

This is the best Malaysian food you will find in this area. We used to live in Whitton when we discovered this place and moved 6 years ago about a 30 minute drive away but come back here frequently. This is a 'no frills' café type restaurant with a maximum capacity of about 20 people. We have known the owner Michelle for over ten years and she greets us like family. The food is freshly prepared and is always full of flavour. I would highly recommend this place to lovers of authentic Malaysian food.

By far the best take away in Twickenham area, always fresh, delicious food very reasonably priced . Must try Beef Rendang and Malysian Duck Curry ! Dont be put off by the bit shabby front of the restaurant 🙃Fantastic owner !

Have been coming here for a few years now and its such a treat. Hidden little restaurant that you might walk passed if you were not paying attention. It is unassuming and informal, which I love. You can relax inside, dine as though you were at home. The food is amazing. The salt and chili squid, tofu and courgette is amazing ,,,so fresh and tasty. The Rendeng is fab, the Laksa is always a winner, anything from the hawkers menu is delish! Michelle is as lovely as ever....please keep this little local gem going but supporting it once in a while.

Terrible Thai food watery curries no taste and the fish cakes seem so bland and no taste . Will never go back ,shame because Thai food is so nice done properly.

I strongly recomend Sambal home made Sauce. Any dish made with it. Squid. I ask for Beef Sambal which is not in menu. Also Randang. Absolutely delicious. Makan Makan. Thank you for being there. Makan Makan is a true local gem! The food is top notch and some of the best Chinese and Malaysian food I’ve ever had in Europe. Always cooked fresh, always delicious. Absolutely fantastic, well priced food. This is matched with personal and friendly service by the owner(s). Great for takeaway, or, if you want to eat in, the atmosphere is very nice and cosy and you can bring your own alcohol for a very reasonable corkage (£1). Cannot recommend Makan Makan enough for all your Asian food cravings!

Been to malaysia a couple times and the food there was delicious. In the uk there aren’t many places that can replicate the taste. But I think this place is, ‘dare I say better’. Will definitely be coming back here again and again!🙂

Not eaten in before but one of the best takeaways I've had! Duck was great and so much meat for just 1/4! All was hot and tasty- didn't taste greasy and frozen as Chinese takeaway sometimes can! Will definitely order again. Only thing I will say was the rice wasn't quite up to par, bit bland and dry. Haven't found decent Asian since O'zon in Twickenham closed down but glad I now have !

Above average Chinese / Malaysian. The best in Twickenham but they need large Spring rolls on the menu as current ones are tiny and disappointing. Started using them for duck spring rolls which are excellent, however, tonight I opened the bag to find 3 tiny rolls which cost me over £5. I will order in from further afield in future.

Must try :1.Laksa,super creamy soup, my no. 1 laksa choice in London! 2.Stir fried anythin with their homemade Sambal sauce. 3.Malaysian Fried rice, the shrimp paste makes it addictive. If you are looking for authentic Malaysian home cooking, this is the one. Handmade sauces and stock with natural ingredients only.All dishes with generous portion.

I have wanted to write this review for a while now as this is one of my favourite restaurants ever - delicious and filling food, excellent quality and a lovely atmosphere, created by the lovely owner Michelle . This is really a place for anyone who appreciates authentic Malaysian and Chinese flavours at unbelievably good value.

One day trip in Twickenham before my graduation in Coventry and it’s surprisingly to find a Malaysian restaurant: Makan Makan in Twickenham.....it’s just remind me my hometown taste....laksa noodle, Makan makan special fried rice etc....yummy🤤🤤🤤😍😍...you won’t regret for it

Malaysian cuisine! Friendly staff and makes you feel very welcomed and comfortable to dine in. Try Makan Makan Fried Rice and tea (hand mixed by Michelle) There's also a Fried Mars Bar!? Worth a try! Restaurant is a bit small with about 5 tables. Reasonably priced.

I recently visited Makan Makan for lunch and was very impressed! My partner and I ordered pad thai, chicken satay and vegetable spring rolls, all of which were incredibly tasty. The service was great too. Will definitely be back!

Decent Pad Thai if portion a bit on the small side and a tad over priced for a takeaway. Staff friendly. Low rating as they dont accept Northern Irish sterling (and i assume Scottish sterling). Didnt offer an explantion except that they would have to go to the bank. Personally Id wonder why a business doesn't want to bank its cash takings.

A large bowl of free prawn crackers to munch on as we were choosing our dishes, there was no rush. The waiter was very friendly and made us at ease. Food came quickly, my seabass was very good value for money. Met the boss who was extremely chummy and attentive.

This is mainly a Malaysian take away food outlet but there are several tables where you are welcome to eat in. They have Asian desserts plus deep fried Mars bars.

Makan makan is a solid Malaysian eating establishment anyone who says otherwise is lying.
