Absolute rip off! Staters we’re deep fried frozen haggis ball and deep fried groans goats cheese balls served with a leaf of lettuce and a cherry tomato. Ordered a steak as there was very poor choice on the menu.£30 for steak frites. Steak is advertised as rib eye it was as flat as a pancake and very small. Looked like and tasted like a piece of frying steak. I asked for it medium rare however it was so flat is was impossible to cook it this way so it was cooked through without a even a hint of pink. Didn’t eat it complained to the waiter who went to check with the kitchen if there had been a mix up as they do serve different cuts of meat at lunch time. Was never given an answer but was offered a coffee on the house instead. Fries were absolutely tasteless. The wine was nice. £130 bill and left hungry..Will definitely not be returning.

Finding a family friendly restaurant that is also classy enough to celebrate a special anniversary is almost impossible to find especially with current covid restrictions. This restaurant however, has class and more! I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon out with my wife and 2 under 2 at this delightful little place. Being a restaurant manager myself, it's hard to switch off and not spot the minor details that really make or break a dinning experience, but this time I didn't have to. Everything was perfect! From the oh so friendly & lovely Saskia (our waitress) who treated us to the best cocktails I've had in years, to the ever helpful and considerate Amy (manager) who was so understanding when we phoned to say we were running 15min late for our reservation. The food was so good I just had to go and thank the chef personally! The whole experience was so enjoyable even the babies were quite and happy! I can't recommend this gem of a restaurant highly enough! Will be back for sure.

I ate here a couple of years ago and vowed I would never go back, the male waiter at that time was obnoxious and rude. The food was awful, steak was inedible. Thought I would give it another go I wished I hadn’t. The female waitress was very polite but the food was terrible again!! My daughter had the steak yet again it was inedible. My sea bass was tasteless and over cooked, didn’t stay for dessert couldn’t wait to get out. It must be the same chef, I won’t be back for a third visit. This is not a French restaurant!

We were just passing Maison Bleue le Bistrot in the street a few days before Christmas with no plan to dine in but the restaurant looked so inviting from the outside that we spontaneously went in. We got a cosy table next to the window straight away and we were delighted by the friendly service and warm, welcoming atmosphere. We had two courses which were both very well presented, tasted delicious and were great value for money. Our normal go to local restaurant has sadly closed for good due to COVID and we both agree Maison Bleue le Bistrot is now our new local so we’re looking forward to many return visits in future.

Really nice bistro restaurant with exciting menu and cosy atmosphere in the heart of Morningside. It is a blend of French, North African and Scottish cuisine. Excellent food, attentive staff and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Really liked the feel if the place and importantly not too loud so clientele could talk without shouting. I really liked this place. Under the government's eat out to help out scheme, myself and a few friends dined at Maison Bleue Le Bistrot. We had looked at the menu online and had seen good reviews, but we were EXTREMELY disappointed. We ordered the ox cheeks and the bouillabaisse. The ox cheeks sounded delicious on the menu but what came were two small slabs of beef on top of a puddle of lukewarm gravy. It was similar to Bisto gravy. The bouillabaisse was alright but really nothing special at all. I would've been VERY angry to pay full price for these dishes. Extremely tiny portions and an exorbitant meal. I would strongly avoid this place. Also, the service was really slow. We had to ask 3 times for salt and pepper (to provide some sort of seasoning for the underseasoned food). Nobody asked us how our meal was midway so we couldn't really comment on anything. It took around 45 minutes for our food to arrive and it wasn't even hot. The food arrived lukewarm. Again, do avoid this place.

I am not impressed with this restaurant, it is overpriced for what it offers! To start with the early dinner men wasn’t available (although we went before 7 pm) or wasn’t offered to us, the quality of the food was ok but nothing exceptional. With my friend we had the wild mushroom soup, which was a bit blunt and something I can prepare better at home. Then I had the beef cheeks. Again they were ok but the mashed potatoes were very blunt and lacking of taste! The ginger panacotta was probably the best thing from what we had ordered. I am also not impressed at the banging of the cutlery and dishes on the worktop right behind my friend. A more quiet atmosphere would be more suited. Otherwise it is like a fast food! The Italian wine was good. But overall a disappointing experience and although I live locally I wouldn’t go back and I wouldn’t recommend it to my friends.

Visited for lunch on a grey, rainy Sunday. Lovely, cosy place, though tables are quite close together so you can't avoid the chat from neighbouring tables. Food is very good and the lunch menu is 2 courses for £12.50 or 3 for £16. I had the goat cheese boulettes, jalapenos fritters and guacamole to start - wasn't sure it was going to work but it did - very tasty. For main I went for minute steak and frites with peppercorn sauce and mixed salad. That was really delicious - simple but really well cooked. For dessert I had a brownie which was pretty good too. Service was relaxed, but not too slow.Bathrooms have VERY low ceilings so tall people beware!

We were in on a quiet, weekday night after the 5-7pm set menu. Staff were attentive and friendly. This place has a relaxing atmosphere. The menu is not extensive but it doesn't need to be. We both chose the soup for the starter: smooth, lightly spiced and not too much. I chose the sea bream and my friend the lamb. Both were declared delicious. There is a long wine list but we were both driving so were on the tap water - why are so many people in Edinburgh buying bottled water?!! The water here is amongst the best in the world. The desserts looked interesting but we had had enough so had coffees - very good. We sat on until they started to clear the outside tables and chairs. There was no pressure to get a move on. We'll be back and also for lunch deal - looks excellent.

My 98 year old mother treated my wife and I to this Morningside establishment. It's part of a mini chain in Edinburgh. The decor is great, spaciousness great, location spot on. The staff were excellent. Fully attentive and nothing too much trouble. HOWEVER as they say on Great British menu judging..the food whilst extremely reasonable, bears examination. I had a very dry and tasteless terrine, followed by a leathery steak. Boring salad served with everything. But I must add the mater and mem sahib had chicken provencale which they loved . Looked rather bland to me but I didn't eat it. Fresh baguette was served willingly. Now I am being hyper critical given the extraordinary price...£9.90 for 2 lunch dishes..my shoe leather steak was a bit more...but maybe hike the price a tad and up the anti? Anyway despite my comments, it is a lovely spot , great front of house and for Edinburgh, cheap as chips. But frankly I'd rather pay a bit more for a better quality and more imaginative salads. If you've read me before you know that I frankly detest some crappy lettuce and tomato with warm food, but if you must do it, make it imaginative. Bon appetit. Thanks Andrew Mitchell

I was recommended to go to this restaurant but was definitely not what was expected. We were welcomed with negatives, what they couldn't serve us. There was a broken glass on our table and once food was ordered it took forever to finally get our starters. The starter was acceptable but totally lacking in presentation with what looked like shop bought pre-packaged salad. The mains were a huge disappointment, the meat in the poulet a la provencale was difficult to identify which part of the chicken it came from, as it was swimming in a lackluster tarragon flavored stock. This dish would normally contain a variety of vegetables not just a pile of onions. There was no finesse to the tarte a l onignon and absolutely no presentation in the unexciting salad that had been thrown on the plate. You could hardly taste the pesto on the tagliatelle for the pasta du jour and it was swimming in about a centimeter of oil. Over all I would never recommend it here and will definitely steer clear of this restaurant for the future.

We have just returned home after a day at the festival via this restaurant. On the positive the beef cheeks main course was very good, succulent, verging on sticky, but very morish, well creamed mash and falling apart in texture. The wine was well priced and good value £20 for an award winning South African Chenin Blanc and £5.75 for a very enjoyable Malbec. However, that's where the positives end! Calamari was fried in 5 spice, too overpowering for the fish. Kid's fish fingers were bought in Bird's Eye/Findus or similar. Tagliatelle for the kids was over-cooked and close to mush. Camembert Fondue was boring, unappetising and with four "50 pence sized" croutons, grossly overpriced. However, what left us infuriated enough to write this review was the vegetarian special offered without informing us of the price to our 12 year old daughter, £15.50 for to halves of riced stuffed red peppers was nothing short of embarrassing. Furthermore, even a vegetarian didn't want to eat them.

Popped in for quick breakfast here. Knew it well when it was cafe cucina. Breakfast menu was nice and I ordered veggie breakfast with poached eggs. Partner had eggs Benedict with black pudding and spinach. Both were fine. The roasted tomatoes on the vine in the veggie breakfast were particularly delicious - sweet and flavourful. Let down by nasty thin white bread toast and fresh orange juice which tasted as if from cartoned concentrate overwhelmed with too much ice - disappointing at £3 per glass. Lovely friendly young waiter (guy with glasses) whose boss seemed to blame together with kitchen staff for giving us wrong order when manager took the order himself (and just didn’t write it down). But without being asked manager took my husband’s meal off bill for wrong order and wait (I’d almost finished) which was thoughtful and professional. So overall fine, service, surroundings and core food nice, but ‘peripherals’ of poor quality.

Having read all the reviews thought I had to visit & what a disappointment. Granted we had the set lunch which appears good value but the food is very average, eg solid chewy pastry, a great spoonful of onion & a slab of goats cheese equals tarte a l’oignon.

My husband and I visited last Saturday. Service was warm and friendly. Calamari Surprise and Mussels for starters were both delicious. Spicy sausage and chicken skewers, hubby said were fabulous as was my beef cheeks with mash. No room for dessert as the portions are big.

We live nearby and keep coming back because of the friendly staff and the great food. The cooked breakfasts are really good, and we're a big fan of the moules frites for lunch/dinner. They rotate the recipe but it's always delicious! Never had a bad meal here, and there's a nice area to sit outside in good weather too. We normally go just the two of us but when we've brought larger groups the service was still great and everyone loved the food.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant. What a great find! Stumbled across this amazing place on a sunny day. Although the restaurant was very busy, we still received fantastic service from our server, Amy. She was very attentive and ensured all of our requests were catered to.

It is just amazing, cute bistrot with great food, and just lovely service. If you're in Edinburgh make sure you visit them. My parents who came for holiday and I had a very nice dinner there. Welcoming atmosphere and tasty food in fair prices. We'll be back for sure. Thank you!

Me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant after we saw their manu outside (that looks really tasty). We decided to take the three courses for 27.90£. When we arrived (7.30pm) already 2 things from the mains were not anymore available, but I can understand after a busy weekend, so the choice was limited. We took 2 starters and 2 mains. My scallops were great, not the same for the fondant of my boyfriend. NO BODY CAME TO CHECK IF EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. Mains: really under our expectation! My cheeks beefs where extremely salty I couldn’t finish them, too much sauce and the mush potatoes was really dry, so it was difficult to enjoy it; the “fish soup” that they call Bouillabaisse, really unteasty. And ALSO HERE NO ONE CAME TO THE TABLE TO ASK US IF EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. We then ask for dessert, the only “good” part of the dinner after the really good wine and beer, I’ve took the sorbets, and my boyfriend the chocolate torte that arrived after I had finished mine. But they told us there was a misanderstanding with the kitchen.

Cosy, quirky and great atmosphere. All my favourites on one menu, I like game and had a haggis starter, and saddle of rabbit to follow, my husband had the venison and pheasant terrine so I could try that as well, he had steak and they made him a Diane sauce which was not on the menu. Highly recommend.

Visited here for lunch. Tasty, reasonably priced, good service. Good addition to Morningside - there isn't anything like it in the area.

What a lovely little place in Morningside Edinburgh. Popped in on a Sunday evening for their 2 course special at £14.50. I loved the colourful decor of the restaurant and the bit of quirkiness it has. Very comfortable, I could have sat there for ages. The staff are super friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. They also know the menu well and what to recommend. I opted for the baby marrow soup which was delicious served with crusty french loaf. Mains was a small steak served with a divine pepper sauce and the yummyiest french fries. French Sauvignon Blanc hit the right mark too. Really lovely evening all round.

Extremely slow service - over an hour to get starters. Other angry diners storming out with frustration after waiting far too long and daft excuses for the poor service such as , " too many people came at the same time" when most if not all had pre booked or " it's because it's a bank holiday".

Made a very last minute booking for a Sat night when we had a babysitting offer. Have visited Maison Bleue in Victoria Street and although I probably prefer that quirky building, the restaurant in Morningside is in a more convenient location. The atmosphere at the bistrot is lovely and relaxed, with staff very happy to explain and recommend food choices. They were not pushy at all re ordering extra drinks and even suggested tap water rather than trying to flog overpriced bottled water, which made a refreshing change. It was really busy with a couple of large groups but service was prompt and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back

Firstly, I phoned outside business hours and left a message booking a table. The next day, I telephoned and spoke to somebody and confirmed the booking, then, to my surprise, I was telephoned, the following day, about the message that I left two days earlier and asked whether I wanted to book a table.

Had a lovely, early dinner here with a friend. They have a great value 2 course menu, with a nice choice of dishes. We both had the calamari- and it was worth going just for this dish alone! My friend then had the steak frites and I had the fish, which was Asian style with noodles- both very tasty. We treated ourselves to the sticky toffee pudding, coffee and a nice bottle of wine. All in, a lovely dining experience. The restaurant has a great relaxing ambience and the service is genuinely warm and friendly. I will definitely visit again soon.

A wonderful warm welcome from Amanda got our lunch off to a great start. Other team members clearly valued by her and working well together. We were shown to a pretty little table next to a windowed door replete with parlour palm - very French. Place was quite busy with a large table chattering away - adding to the bistro ambiance. Starters of haggis bonbons were delicious - most definitely to be repeated. Husband had the spicy burger as they were out of the boeuf bourguignon (it was three o'clock) which he remarked as one of the tastiest burgers ever. I had the rabbit saddle - which was pleasant enough - but, my fault, I hadn't read the menu well enough and was surprised to see a creamy sauce. This atop creamy mash was a little too gooey for me. Our neighbours sticky toffee pudding looked amazing, however we were simply too full to venture - next time - and there certainly will be a few of these.

The Cafe Marlayne is wee gem of restaurant right in the city centre. The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere with really nice buzz with nice friendly staff. My compliments to the chef for producing amazing tasty food that looks great and tastes delicious. The deserts have amazing taste that makes you suck on the food to get that’s rush to the taste buds that’s make the whole experience well worth the visit. We will definitely be back and thanks for the delicious food you served.
