Lovely place , lovely food , lovely service

This small 20 something seater restaurant was a very pleasant surprise, as the exterior does not do the inside justice. It was a Thursday evening and we were lucky to get a table. The service was very slow, but there was only 1 lady on the floor and she did everything, from seating the patrons, bringing menus, taking orders, bringing the food, clearing tables right through to presenting the bill and accepting payment. But, we werent in any rush and decided just to relax and wait. Boy, was it worth it! We had the mixed stater to share for 2. The chicken satays were unarguably, the best i have ever eaten. The crispy pork belly was just that - but the meat was soft and succulent and the springrolls were simply delicious with a dipping sauce that I could quite happily have poured over everything. The mains were just as delicious and we were spoilt for choice, so we will be back to sample the other dishes, that looked so appealing.

Delicious food. Feels like we were in Thailand again..!! A hidden gem if you ask me. Don't sell yourself short and eat or order food here when you are in southampton.

My friend and I wanted a takeaway, but seeing the place made us want to dine in. It is beautiful, the music relaxing and the waitress very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and the portions very satisfying. The Thai beer is highly recommended, too 👌 The toilet was extra clean, as well as the rest of the place. The prices were reasonable and we decided to leave a tip, since we were both very satisfied. We will definitely go back again.

Probably the best cooked Thai food anywhere in the city. Always hot, service excellent by the lovely staff and excellent quality.

Fantastic Thai cafe. Lovely service and setting. Food was great. Only thing I would say is the Green Curry & Panang Curry (both with two chillies each to their name) could be at least spicy. Was mild.

Ordered takeaway. Mixed starter to share - pork belly and chicken was really dry. Spring rolls good. Chicken wings moist but too sweet. Tom yam soup - too watery and no heat. Partner had panang curry and satay chicken - they tasted exactly the same - of satay. Curry was watery with no heat and no depth of flavour. Sweet and sour chicken was good hence the 3 stars. Egg fried rice was ok too - soft and fluffy. Chicken fried rice was a bit greasy and chicken in it was dry. Definitely not £60 worth of food. Won't be using again.

We regularly have takeaway from Mai Thai, and are consistently blown away by the food. It's outstanding; fresh and extremely tasty. Nothing else comes close to the quality and flavour. We hope it will be around forever 😊.

Great Thai food and friendly service

As you walk in the decor is stunning and a warm calm atmosphere greets you. We were made to feel very welcomed, from arrival right till leaving. We'd arrived fairly late in the evening and there was only a seat by the door which we were fine with but soon as one was free we were offered the choice to move seats. I was very kindly given a glass of water after having a bit of a coughing issue while eating. Our food was absolutely wonderful, arrived very fast. So fresh, piping hot and full of flavors. I had vegetable Pad Thai and my friend had the mixed box, both washed down with Chang beer. I'd not tried Chang before but highly recommend it! A very light and refreshing drink to accompany your meal. Will definitely be back to visit and took a takeaway menu! Thank you for a lovely evening.

The food tastes so good! Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and we will be definitely coming back to try out other dishes. The restaurant is nice and cozy and the service is good 😊👍

I have lots of experience with Thai food👌and I have to say this is up there with the best you will get outside of Thailand. If you like a particular "style" speak to Mai and I'm sure she will accommodate your request.

Good I super authentic and it’s seems to be a family own business. The food was cooked fresh and quick. Very friendly and good ambience. Clean toilet. I love the fact that I was told that as a Hawaiian guy I can easily blend as a Thai guy. Eating here making me wanna go to Chiang Mai.

Yet another amazing meal at Mai Thai. The welcome is warm, the atmosphere relaxing and and friendly but the food is the star, it is absolutely the best Thai food we have eaten which is why we keep coming back both for takeaways (which are always hot on delivery) and eat-in. The host/owner Mai is so lovely and her guidance is always spot on, very helpfully stopping us from over-ordering so we always have just the right amount of food. My husband and I are vegetarian and there is a great choice for us, and our meat eating friends and family are as impressed as we are with the choice and the quality of the food. We would definitely recommend this wonderful restaurant.

What a quaint little place the staff very friendly the food was beautiful my partner had the green curry he said it was the best he had ever had and that's saying something as he is very much a curry critic the starter for two was plentiful and very flavoursome carnt fault the food here highly recommended

What can I say brilliant brilliant brilliant food was excellent service amazing just arrived home after a long journey North, and noticed that people where eating inside dumplings and crispy pork to start both excellent a curry and a duck dish for mains served by the friendliest lady,had a couple of Thai beers then home for an early night I slept like a log 😂

Have dined in and collected take aways from this restaurants every week for about 3 months now - I am addicted! It is the best Thai food (probably the best takeaway also) that I’ve ever had. I’ve introduced this place to 5 of my friends and they have all been back multiple times. Took my daughter here as we have both spent time in Thailand and love the food. We both agreed that it was the best and most authentic Thai meal we've had since back in UK. Food really tasty, lovely staff, good service and a fair price. Will definitely look forward to eating here again soon.

First time ordering here.The shrimp pad thai was not bad But the shrimp tom yam was disappointing. Shirimp tom yam paid £9.00 has 4 prawn, 2 small tomoatoes & 5 slice of mushroom only .

Just had my first Thai takeaway from here and was very impressed. The staff were so friendly and the food delicious, really nicely spiced and very fresh. Ready in 10 mins to! Will definitely use again

Stumbled upon this place staying in the area we traveled from the North East. Don't let the look fool you, we had the best Thai food we've ever had! Staff so friendly and amazing with my 3 year old (he very much enjoyed his take home watermelon and orange in bed thank you again!) We've been craving your food ever since we left, especially the salad! Just wish you were closer than a 6 hour drive away or we would be your new best customers!

Me and my girlfriend ordered a chicken pad Thai with duck rolls, service was good and pick up was easy, however the pad Thai has hardly any chicken or veg in it mostly noodles and was dry probally the worst pad Thai I’ve had. My partner has been up all night throwing up and had shivers which sounds like food poisoning and the only think she had different was the duck. Not impressed at all would not recommend

An explosion of delicately balanced flavours topped with a lemon that changes everything! This has to be the cleanest healthiest pad Thai with ultimate portions, cut so delicately that I hope the chef never changes! Lots of noodles and beef just the right amount I'm full now :) You will go to other places with oily noodles but this was just so delicious! The salad I ordered went well with it, with bits of healthy greens such as Pak Choi and brocholli that had a unique flavour! The service was impeccable and so was the restaurant, only thing that was missing was the chilli powder but I cannot complain I will return again!!

Beautiful authentic Thai food. After our regular Thai takeaway closed we need somewhere new to get the food we love so much (we are regular visitors to Thailand). We were so happy to discover that the food was delicious and also the menu offered us dishes we’ve not had before. I certainly recommend the spicy chicken salad, the Tom Yum and the Pad Thai! We come to Mai Thai in Shirley from the other side of the city in Weston, the journey is 100% worth it!! Our new favourite. Kap Kun Krab! 🙏

This is the first time I have placed an order with Mai Thai, we love Thai food and our takeaway with Mai Thai was amazing. The beef Thai salad was so well presented, so fresh and was the most tender and tasty beef salad I have ever had. Pad Thai noodles were equally delicious. We will definitely be eating from Mai Thai again

Didn't feel like cooking so I decided I'm going to go get a takeaway, and mai thai often pops into my head, so I phoned my order through and the lovely little Thai lady took my order I gave a time and I arrived a couple of minutes early perfect timing she was just finishing of my order, was given a great welcoming fantastic service anyway returned home and dished up a superb Thai meal was very fresh hot and excellent I'm glad I decided on Thai food, even though it was a takeaway the experience and service was great I highly recommend MAI THAI 👌👌

We had a take away from Mai Thai and it was just like going back to Thailand. Really delicious. We had the pad Thai and it was really top notch. We will order again and try something new!

Just had my first Thai Take away and I have to say it was delicious and tasty and I really enjoyed it. Lots of nice flavours and was really nice to try something different for a change and for it to taste different from the norm. We had the duck with lettuce wraps which was hot but really tasty, spring rolls where delicious, we also had noodles and the crispy chicken and potato box meal which was also lovely. I reccommend this Thai and look forward to having it again or going to restaurant. Thank you

Presentable and also packs the punch of the flavours you would expect from a genuine thai recipe. Portions were appropriate and overall enjoyed the food. It was so good that I ate more than I should have for dinner.

We ordered from Mai Thai because it was local and had great reviews - we were not disappointed! It was absolutely delicious and arrived very quickly and piping hot. I had the veggie Kee Mao and the noodles were soo spicy and full of fresh and crisp veggies. The panang curry was really flavourful and the tofu was perfect. We cannot stop talking about how good the food was and will be ordering again very soon!

Omg! We just had our first takeaway from Mai Thai (via Uber Eats) and I can honestly say, FANTASTIC!! Fresh, hot, good portions and really well packaged. It definitely took me back to Thailand. My first but definitely not my last!

We have just had our second takeout from here and it was just so good! Fresh, full of flavour with a good variety of vegetables in the vegetarian option and plenty of chicken in the other. Can’t wait for lockdown to end so that we can visit the restaurant.

We were recommended Mai Thai and were certainly not disappointed. Absolutely excellent food, freshly cooked good quality ingredients. We had a Stir Fry and Pad Thai, we love locally and this is now going to be our local!

Just had the best Thai food ever, served by a lovely and beautiful Thai lady called Mai. Went for a sit down meal there with my wife and was amazed at how tasty the food was. Will defiantly be going again soon.

I took a gamble and ordered through Uber Eats on 29/09/20. Really glad I did as everything I ordered was delicious. The crispy chicken wings were all drums and coated in an addictive sweet-spicy sauce. The Pad Thai I ordered was one of the best...

I never write reviews but this place is incredible I just had to show my appreciation. One of the best meals in long time. the food taste incredible, good sized portions, usually arrives in about 15 still steaming hot. This is the second time this week we have ordered it.
