Maharaja Spice Express in Birmingham

Absolutely atrocious service from this pub and I would give a zero rating if possible. I have been a vegetarian all my life (33 years) and I’ve not eaten meat to this day until I visited King’s Head last week. I asked for a paneer wrap but was given a chicken wrap by the incompetent staff. I had eaten some of it before realising. I approached the waitress who looked shocked. The waitress made the manager aware who said “well she’s eaten half of it”. I’m sorry I wasn’t aware that I had to unravel the foil, the naan bread, peel off the lettuce, scrape off the sauce and dissect what I believed is paneer (the order I made and paid for) to find it’s in fact chicken. I should then complain and wait another half an hour for my correct order to be made. The waitress said to rectify the error I could either have a paneer wrap which I ordered in the first place or get a refund. As I felt so revolted I asked for a refund. The waitress put £4.50 down on the table and left. I didn’t even get a full refund for my dinner and drink, just the money for the wrap that I didn’t order. Absolutely ludicrous and despicable behaviour. The fact is the pub was more or less empty with only about 3 other small groups of guests, some of which who were not eating. Also the waitresses were just chatting and sitting on top of the bar which was very unprofessional. I made a formal complaint in writing and I’m yet to hear a response which I doubt I will ever get. Also the tables are sticky, the chairs are dirty and the DJ plays the same songs on repeat. When it rains it drips through into the restaurant and the electrical fittings. Half of the toilets/soap dispensers/ dryers don’t work. If you want food that is against your beliefs and that you haven’t ordered, limited range of overpriced drinks that take over an hour to arrive, lazy incompetent staff and health hazards galore then this place is for you.

Came here a few weeks ago and couldn’t fault it. staff were great, attentive, chatty but today was just awful! Sat for 10 minutes with staff passing us and staring at us without a word from them. I then went up to the bar to ask if some could come and take our order to be told I have to order at the bar. Clearly none of them could tell us that each time they passed us! The staff were rude, lazy (sitting on their phones) attitude was just awful. Not a huge selection of drinks at the bar, menu said lamb Shish (6pieces) only got 4, Samosas (4 pieces) it was 2 cut in half! Onion bahji’s were really greasy and didn’t have much flavour. Granddaughter had a pizza, it had so much uncooked cheese on it she had to scrape it off to make it edible. Tried ordering deserts, 6 on the menu and didn’t have any of them but took two attempts at ordering from the menu before the staff saw fit to tell us they didn’t have any of them, gave us two alternatives that weren’t appetising, we didn’t bother having one! Couple at the table next to us ordered the mixed grill and said they wished they hadn’t bothered as it had no flavour. A really disappointing experience, won’t go again or recommend to anyone that asks again!

Went for a few drinks and a nibble. The place was busy. Went before the lockdown as well... but this time found the food much better. Really enjoyed the evening. Looking forward to going with friends this time.

Open after COVID with out door eating, not very disabled friendly, steps to get in, toilets upstairs, lift crammed with rubbish so not working

Hablé con dos personas por teléfono, dijeron que no aceptan reservas de mesa, a pesar de que lo he reservado en la aplicación y tengo un correo electrónico que lo confirma. Dijeron que no ofrecerán comida de 3 platos (que es lo que he pagado) y que "hablarán con el chef" para ver si puede hacer una parrillada mixta. No quiero una parrillada mixta en un restaurante de curry cuando he pagado por tres platos. Ni siquiera me han notificado que no asista esta noche, así que me alegro de haber telefoneado para verificar. No perdería tu tiempo yendo aquí, estarás jodido.

DISGUSTED. Family birthday 764543630 DISGUSTED. Family birthday meal booked, confirmed . Arrived on time, waitress looked petrified and asked if it was a groupon mixed grill, it was. "WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING GROUPON " she said. Unbelievable , as they had accepted booking, no mention, had my mobile , no call. They said we can have a 10% discount of food if we stayed, and get refund from groupon. As we had a cocktail voucher as well, this was just not an option, too expensive to order 5 meals with extras and wait for refund. We walked away. Manager did offer 20 % off but didn’t seem too bothered really. Shocking customer service. DOESNT MATTER WHOS FAULT IT IS, WHATEVER DISPUTE WITH GROUPON INPLAY, RUBBISH ALL ROUND FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS. FAMILY WERE GUTTED. WE HAVE BEEN PRE COVID AND FOOD WAS GREAT. SADLY WONT RETURN, OR EVER USE GROUPON AGAIN.

I visited here with a purchased groupon voucher for this restaurant, booked and notified in advance and staff at arrival that I had this voucher to use. Upon purchasing my drinks and been sat at a table I was notified I could not use my voucher as they no longer accept the particular offer I had although it stated it’s validity on the voucher itself. I asked to speak to the manager which he told me there wasn’t anything he could do but take 10-20% off the main menu instead. I had explained I had travelled to this part of Birmingham in particular in good faith and had paid in full for my voucher and that I wasn’t satisfied especially travelling out of my way. He then went on to tell me how his son is a solicitor and that groupon isn’t answering their emails etc and said there wasn’t anything he could do. I was extremely disappointed and safe to say I will not visit here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone as its customer service is shocking. I work in customer service and we would usually offer the customer something else in substitute of the voucher and not to expect the customer to pay more or at least offer to pick up the drinks tab for the convenience. We had then decided not to dine there but would rather go somewhere where we felt like a valued customer which we then went to the Soho Tavern instead.

Have not been here for about 18mths and was pleasantly surprised. Decor has been updated - much improved. Social distancing measures were in place complete with temperature check. What was a nice was that someone explained the layout to you instead of having to figure it out yourself. Menu was mainly Indian with a few pub staples such as fish and chips and pizza. I had the fish and chips priced very reasonably at £9.99 and a pint at £5.00. Minor issues with the chips and mushy peas but for the price/size of cod (and it was cod), you can’t complain. Manager’s response when I explained the issue with the food was excellent. Overall, friendly, welcoming staff, great outdoor seating area and a nice, chilled atmosphere. Worth a visit.

Where do i start, decided to go for dinner with a few mates. Once we found a table to sit on we had to wait for 45 mins for someone to come take our drinks order and that was only after we walked up to the waiter twice to ask them if they could take our drinks order and bring some menus over. Finally we got our drinks after an hour after being there. Then a waitress finally comes to take our food order which when the food did come out it was wrong then the waiter decided to just pile the food in the middle of the table for ourselves to then sort out what was what. Once we had eaten we tried to order some more drinks. But trying to get the attention of the waiters was a task and a half. At that point we decided to leave and go somewhere else.

Love this place! Food was amazing and the cocktails were to die for. Best pina colada and mojito I’ve had. They have really put measures in place for COVID-19 so felt really safe. The tent and DJ were fab and also loved the pizzas.

Me and hubby visited this restaurant today for the first time and oh my god it’s fab. Gorgeous food and excellent service. Definitely going to return and recommend to friends and family

The food was excellent, as was the service. We went for drinks and food after work as a celebration this week. We ordered mixed grills, a few curries and a few sides for the table. This is one of the better desi bars I’ve been to in a while. The mixed grill really is worth its money.

Myself and my wife visited last week, on a groupon voucher deal. The food wasn’t too bad, but the service was comical (and that’s being kind). After the main course we sat for at least 30 minutes with our dirty plates, the waitress (a little Chinese girl) eventually noticed we had finished. She cleared my plate, and left my wife’s. We then waited another 20 minutes, sweets arrived, and plonked on table, I had to ask for remaining plates/cutlery to be removed. We were offered a drink once, but then that was it. It’s a shame because the place itself is quite nice, but waiting staff are on another planet. If you want good service, avoid.

Popped in for some lunch with my daughter and husband. Lovely decor was seated straight away on arrival. Our drinks order was took pretty soon. The food we ordered was so delicious and pipping hot. Great value for money. Will definately be returning soon.

Upon arriving, we got a warm welcome. Really authentic cool decor, we got seated right away and ordered a selection of starters. The chilli paneer was incredible! We tried the spice battered cod and chips for mains and were pleasantly surprised!! Polished right off and will definitely be returning.

This venue/restaurant was lovely, my daughter had her 18th family birthday meal here and I would like to say I was very pleased with the attentive customer service. The food was great and the hospitality was above and beyond. I would definitely recommend this location...

Very unprofessional. They had food on menu marked vegan, upon double checking, couldnt confirm it was vegan ! Food wasnt very tasty, felt it had been reheated or microwaved. Cocktails were awful. Sorry to say I Won't be going again or recommending to anyone.

Terrible service right from the time we walked in. Requested a bigger table told to take what we given. Drinks left on one side of table. Food was terrible.not as described. Mixed grill was cold and tasted like microwave food. Avoid if you can

Our curries were bland, and when I explained to the waiter that I couldn't finish my main course I just received an apology. No offer of alternative or even something on the house (although in fairness she was friendly enough). Really disappointing.

Great food, lovely atmosphere and decor. All good. Family and friends visiting Saturday lunchtime. Nice selection of beer and drinks, reasonably priced. Will be back ASAP.

We had the paneer makhani, daal makhani, dhaba chicken and methi aloo. The food was delicious and the service was very good. We will certainly visit again.

Food was great, amazing flavour. Drinks not so great and missing ingredients. Bartender didn't know what he was doing and made it up as he went along. Then ended up being overcharged. Would go back but only for the food.
