Amazing food and service. Tastes like proper home cooked Indian food. Best Indian restaurant I’ve been too.

Had the chicken pathia vindaloo hot was perfect 1st time to this Indian restaurant and the staff was so friendly can not fault this restaurant if I was in this part of the world again I would not esitate to return thank you for a lovely evening. John and mandy

Always excellent with a great welcome from Ali and the team. Plenty of choice on the menu. The food is excellent and advice is on hand to explore the menu further. Chicken tikka garlic and chicken makani are particular favourites. Aways a regular port of call when in Winslow.

Been going here for 20yrs, last couple of times the take aways not been very good and items missing. Just ordered a takeaway and it's missing a Nan bread and the onion Bhaji are so over cooked and dry. Didn't really enjoy the takeaway, will not be going back after 20yrs as a customer, time to find a new restaurant.

I've eaten at this restaurant many times and the standard had dropped so much, the chef can't even cook naan. There is now a choice of Indian restaurants in Winslow!

Best place to visit for a curry in Winslow. The food is always amazing and some different dishes I haven’t seen before which are now my favourites. The staff are so friendly and helpful which always makes the night so enjoyable. Can’t wait to visit again

Spent £79 on a meal for two adults and two kids. The food was bland and tasteless and was not fresh. We ordered vegetable vegetable samosas that had clearly been reheated from frozen and arrived fridge level cold in the middle. No mention of taking them off the bill despite waiting 10 minutes for them to be properly reheated. I'm a prolific curry-eater and this is one of the worst curry dining experiences I've had. Avoid.

I had the best Chicken Dansak last night it truly was delicious. I’ve been a customer of the Restaurant for over 20 years. I called in on my way home from a very busy day at work the greeting always warm and friendly. A coffee was offered while I waited a very short time, while it was freshly prepared by the Chef. Often I have eaten there solo and truly great experience of excellent service and ambience.

This was the first time we have used Mahabharat since moving to Winslow. Ordered a takeaway and we were all impressed with the quality of the food provided. Plenty of choice and food was ready on time. We will order again.

Drive there once a month from Milton Keynes.. really good place to be honest a hidden gem for food lovers

I went to mahabarat last weekend to get a nice saturday night dinner. This was not the case however, even though the food was nice. The waiter came to take my order, I asked for prawn korma and to my suprise, the waiter did a backflip and booted me in the face. Then he picked me up and put me over his shoulders, proceeding to slam me onto the table. He then went to nthe kitchen to get my prawn korma and he came back upstrais and threw the boiling hot korma onto my head giving me 2nd degree burns. I am now in hospital in critical condition with face disfigurements. Its safe to say i will not be not be ordering a prawn korma again. I will probable order chicken tikka next time.

I believe there are two indian restaurants in Winslow. I looked at the menus for both a decided upon Mahabharat.Sat down - was given the menu. The price for a 10.20 dish takeaway was 17.00 pounds to eat in. Too much of a mark up for me - I left

While on holiday and staying in the area we chose to eat there for my birthday meal. Friendly welcoming by the staff and excellent food made for a memorable evening. We’ll definitely be going back again when we are in the area again.

Ordered a takeaway. The plain popadoms were very greasy, but as recent reviews were good I didn’t lose heart (didn’t eat them though). Dansak was quite bland and proportion of lamb a bit disappointing (8 pieces) but it was the rice that shocked me -...

Been here many times over the years, never disappointed. Food is always of a high quality and very flavoursome. Hands down one of the best, if not the best Indian restaurant in Bucks. Highly recommended!

Mahabharat food is pretty good, delicious tender lamb in rogan josh, but probably wouldn't go again as the waiter never stopped talking to us or other diners, impeding our enjoyment of the meal to the extent we weren't able to chat to each other, or take notice of what we were eating. A shame. There needs to be a balance so people can quietly enjoy their food as well as have a bit of interaction with staff. We clearly didn't want to talk or listen, we'd be working long weekend shifts and were ravenous, we just wanted to eat and sleep. But no, he talked about house prices, cricket, and so on, on and on.

I’ve been coming here for over 10 years...& after a 2 year break due to my move to Kent... I’m back!! The food was as ever great!! Fresh food, delicious naans... yummy curry... just can’t fault this little gem .Friendly service. Good value... so glad I’m moving back!!

Cosy little place in the heart of the village. Very very friendly staff. Family run business established for the last 30 years. There is nothing the chef can't cook....if it's on the menu it's easy if it's not it's not a problem the chef "Babul" will cook it up and it will be served! Absolutely delicious food and cant recommend this place highly enough! If you are in town it will be criminal not to go to Mahabharat for that curry.

Great little find in the town square of Winslow. Food was lovely and the team were great with my kids. Would happily recommend this if you enjoy good Indian food.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and vibe of this cosy restaurant. Seating area isn’t huge and might feel a bit cramped, but the food quality and staff warmth more than makes up for it.

This tiny restaurant has over-friendly staff intent only on bragging that the local mp is a regular customer. The food is average - bland, disappointing and lacking flavour. The wine was terrible and the desserts were the usual sub standard bought in rubbish offered at most mediocre indian restaurants.

We visited here as two couples. It’s a very basic cheap looking place. Food was way below average. Tiny thin paper napkins. Need to improve the quality of food. The pilau rice was like nothing I’ve seen before. Very friendly staff tho.

My wife and had a takeaway from here when we were staying in the area. On entering it was very small and looked like it needed updating. The man that served us was very pleasant and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. The starters were very good and good size. The curry I had tasted pritty good but didn't have much chicken in it. All in all OK

Clean. Tidy. Pleasant service. Food was nice. Don’t really like Indian food but when your hungry your hungry and appreciate their long opening hours. All good. Decent. Decor was ok. Quite tight in the corner though. But still nice. Would go again. And recommend.

A tiny (I don't quite know how they manage - but they do)but excellent Indian which also does take way if you wish. Proper south India authentic food which is tasty and reasonably priced. Not to be missed.

Had a great meal here, quite a small place, up stairs seating available but I'd recommend booking. Food choices are pretty standard. Service was quick and the waiters were very chatty.

We've had hundreds of meals from them and they've always been very good. No discount for take-away but guess that's because it's all reasonably priced in the first place and take-aways obviously aren't subsidised by the sale of drinks.

Really enjoy the food and families are welcome. Good for takeaway food too. Highly recommended and best in Winslow.

Have been coming here all my life and they are always great. Their vegetable curries are fantastic and they offer a real range of items. They also offer quorn curries and will alter spice levels to your taste. Staff are always really friendly and chatty. Keep it up!

Mahabharat is a super Indian well-known for its friendly, informal yet polite dining. We eat here regularly both take away and dine in. All of the staff are chatty and yet polite and you leave feeling well cared for, as well as well fed. The chicken tikka mango is a lovely dish for those with a leaning towards mild and fruity curries and there is a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The dining space is quite small and personal, so not the place to go if you want to speak confidentially or gossip about your neighbours!

I was staying in a local B & B and had already done some 'homework' on where I might want to eat. Because my timing was uncertain, I had not been able to book anywhere in advance (which would have been better on a Saturday evening). After a day of British 'fast food' and with another the same in prospect, I definitely wanted something different for dinner and I was lucky that I could be fitted in.It's only a small room downstairs and with another area (that I did not see) upstairs. Obviously a popular place with the locals and also with a good 'take-away' trade - always a good sign.I enjoyed my vegetable samosas followed by chicken biryani - washed down with a 'Kingfisher'. Friendly staff and very good value.

We stayed at the bell hotel across the road from this restaurant, although it looked very small we thought that we'd give it a try.The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had starters and a main meal and have to say that the quality was excellent, I've not had great tasting Indian food for a long time so this was an absolute treat!What we couldn't eat we took away with us, I shouldn't say this but it was so nice that I ate the remaining left overs for my breakfast!

I've not been to the Mahabarat for quite a few years and was pleasantly surprised when I returned there. I could not fault the starter or main course (Chicken Pakora and Garlic Chicken Tikka); all very tasty. Staff are friendly and attentive and are quick to serve the next course when ready or top up the drinks; this may not be agreeable to those who would like to spread the meal over a few hours but suits me fine. I will be going back next time I'm in Winslow.

We were really looking forward to a good curry having read the reviews on Tripadviser. Unfortunately when we went last Saturday it just didn't come close to our expectations. OK, we are used to more authentic curries in Leicester but this was just "santized for your protection". Virtually fat free with none of the richness one expects, in fact my husband's chicken korma was completely tasteless - if I hadn't tasted it myself I wouldn't have believed that a dish could actually taste of absolutely nothing. To be fair, my ginger chicken was OK, but no better than that. To make matters worse the staff seemed intent on breaking the world record of getting people sat down, fed, paid up and out. They seemed to be doing a roaring trade in take-aways so I think diners were somewhat surplus to requirements. Put it this way, it took me longer to put my make-up on than it did to eat the meal which can't be right! Needless to say we will not be going back.

This restaurant has a website so you can pre order. They have ben reliably good for several years. We find it to be the best curry in Bucks at the moment and we have tried a good number! The takeaway is always quick and nicely presented. It is fresh and tasty. Not the usual brown sludge you often find.

I have been here a few times to eat with family. The food is always good and service prompt. The waiters are always friendly and polite.

Lovely little cosy restaurant. Great food and very reasonably priced too. Set on the corner of a lovely market square. Special thali a great choice, especially as we weren't that hungry so shared.

Not the largest of restaurants, but what it may lack in size and number of covers, the Mahabharat more than makes up for with the quality and quantity of food.Living out of the area we were recommended to visit the Mahabharat by the proprietor of the B&B at which we were staying. A good recommendation! Service was good with drinks orders being taken and delivered promptly to table. The ubiquitous poppadums and chutneys followed and then into the meal proper. Everything was served piping hot and each dish had its own unique flavour.The Onion Bhaji's were cooked properly and not as is often found dripping in oil. The lamb Dhupiaza had masses of tender lamb in a very tasty sauce whilst the Chicken Tawa offered a bit more of a kick whilst not destroying the taste buds! The Mushroom rice had loads of mushrooms and was not in the least bit greasy. The Aloo Gobi had a pleasant heat to it and masses of Cauliflower and Potato.All told, a great meal and not at a silly price. We will be back the next time we are in the area!

For those who have been and like! I advise trying a larger town Indian - understand this is a small town and limited to only a few places to eat! However this place we visited upon the reviews! Booking a table was easy and just a phone call. Arrival to what I can only say is a place the size of a single decker bus! With four tables of 4 and two tables of 2. If your not sitting on top of your next table your lucky! No space for the staff to squeeze past without a backside facing the adjoining table! I understand the prompt service to any Indian restaurant but at this one they are basically watching your every bite! I felt uneasy sitting here only to find the food tasteless! I won't be returning sorry to say, it's a shame I didn't have choice of restaurants in the area as we would of left.

We visited for a meal whilst passing through the town. What a lovely restaurant, it is clean and bright. The waiters change the cloths after each customer. The waiter was polite and helpful, in this restaurant, we had one of the best Indian meals we have ever had.

Really good indian food. No frills restaurant, but nice staff and as mentioned, good food. We Didn't have alcohol, but the prices were reasonable and selection of foods and beverages good.

Being from South Shields we are spoiled for great curry houses and we wrestled with the potential to be disappointed. Wrong decision.I always order onion bhajis, "if they can't make a good one you know you are in for woe" sent them back as they were cold (and stodgy ) in the middle. Say no more. Staff were ok. Spoke to a local afterwards who nodded knowingly. "The other one is better" don't know where he was on about but try looking in the village for another before you go here.

Nothing special but reasonable quality and price for an average Indian restaurant. My advice is take-away, as eating inside the restaurant is very cramped, uncomfortable, and intrusive.

Sorry, but probably the worse and and most expensive Indian I have ever eaten. Overcooked, same sauce used in three different dishes. And a smile from any of the staff would have been nice! Never again

We're not spoilt for choice in Winslow and as there is a limit to how much oil and salt I can put up with, even in a curry, I found myself at the Mahabharat once again.It will be the last. The staff have always been fairly disdainful of customers but this time they excelled themselves.Standing next to the table waiting for us to finish the starters, attempting to take plates whilst we were still eating, muttering as they walked from the table - the whole experience was horrible.Rather than cook my dish they simply gave us both the same main course. I couldn't be bothered to complain, just thought I'd tell the world instead.On the plus side, the bottled beer had been in a fridge and given a couple more hours it would have been cold.

After reading recent reviews we were very disappointed with the takeaway meal we had. Phone ordered and given 30mintues. We waited some time longer by the time we received the meal. Korma was thin with limited flavour, sauces for Tikka Balta and Jalfraezi were almost identical and severely lacking any distinct flavours. Overall it was very disappointing and we shall not be returning unless we hear of significant improvements.

If you're looking for the best Indian cuisine in the Winslow, Buckingham and MK area look no further. We love the Mahabharat and would recommend it to anybody wanting a great meal in a restaurant with a friendly face - particularly 'Killer Kaz' as he likes to be known. We like to eat here on a regular basis and have never had a bad meal. Service is always prompt but never is it rushed. Might not be the cheapest but it's not too expensive either - just good food at the right price. A varied choice of beer and wines including draught Carlsberg Export. If you tend to always order the same thing try different choices from the menu and you won't be disappointed. The staff are willing to discuss your 'likes' and then recommend a meal to suit. Worth booking in advance on a weekend as they are often full.

This Indian Restaurant has been in Winslow for over 30 Yearsthis says something of its good quality. When went in we had not been for several months but they remembered what I had Such nice people

This was once one of the best Indian restaurants for miles but, about 2 years ago, the standards dropped like a stone and many regulars, myself included, went elsewhere. Just after Christmas (2015) we found ourselves needing a take out and the Mahabharat was the only place open. With the hope that things may have improved we ordered several meals-mostly chicken tikka masala (not a true Indian meal but the most popular in the uk and ANY chief should be able to cook a reasonable one with his eyes shut) - what a mistake, the meals consisted of 4 or 5 pieces of chewy chicken drowning in what I can only describe as peppery urine-not one person ate the garbage-terrible, terrible food of a totally unacceptable standard. Do yourselves a favour and drive to Stoney Strattford where you will find Indian food of a sublime standard.

Really tasty food, great value, lovely staff. Full menu with plenty of choice, they'll even make up a dish for you if you want something slightly different :)

This small restaurant is very cosy and inviting and has standard decor to match. The thing that isn't standard is the quality of food that came from the chefs. This is truly the first time I have completed a full meal in one sitting as the food was amazing. Slightly cold manager but everyone is allowed off days but the food made up for this.

We ate at this restaurant as a second choice on Saturday evening.The food was lovely, very tasteful. I had a King Prawn Puri, which was lovely, the Prawns were succulent and full of flavour.The Lamb Bhuna was melt in your mouth as was the Mushroom Rice, I thought the service was perfect, just right, not over attentive but as required, Polite and very professional.

Been to Mahabharat several times! Best Indian around. Friendly service. Nothing is ever any trouble. Once I ordered take out and they didn't have it quite ready when I arrived and so supplied me and my friend with a complimentary drink!

Been here a few times over the years and is always good food and plenty of banter with the owner, who has a great sense of humor . We go with out friends who live in the village so know them well. Good choices on the Menu and a small but quite good wine list. Generally its a but on the pricy side but that said we always have a good evening. Well worth a visit!

We have visited here regularly and can never fault the quality of the food or the service. We love a good Dhansak and enjoy the lamb, prawn and veg ones. If I could fault anything it would be that I would like draught kingfisher but the bottles are just fine and they are happy to serve as a "pint"

Winslow's small Indian Restaurant located in market square offers a good variety of the normal plates expected. The Lamb Balti in particular was very good. The service was efficient but impersonal. As our local Indian we will definitely return, hoping for a smile & warmer welcome next time though.
