Thanks Angies Kitchen for a fabulous gluten free breakfast. It is so refreshing to visit a restaurant and to have such knowledgeable staff with a huge variety of choice. Nothing was too much trouble. I felt so welcomed and usually being gluten intolerant it’s an effort to get any assistance but not here you are welcomed with opened arms! Service was perfect and the food so tasty! I cannot fault this place and would certainly recommend to anyone especially those with issues with gluten! Thank you so so much and every time I’m near here I’ll be calling in for food!

Have been here several times for the carvery, however with covid 19 your roast dinner is served to you at your table. All I can say is it was awful cabbage and cauliflower like mush which produced a lot of water.3 tiny roast potatoes like rubber and we went for the extra meat! The gammon was smaller than the palm of my hand and the beef was fatty. The cook came out to see us and gave us a refund

I’m sorry to say (because the staff seemed genuinely nice and friendly) but this was the worst carvery I’ve had the misfortune to eat. Everything was bland and the ‘beef’ was overcooked and tasteless m. Won’t be trying again and it’s such a shame as the venue is perfectly situated and a Sunday Roast is not hard to go right.

Popped in for a carvery. The toilets were not clean at all, including blood on the floor in the cubicles. As this was part of the pub downstairs I looked past it before I judged the dining areas. We were seen to quickly and all the staff we come across seemed genuinely nice and friendly. They were happy to serve and had smiles on their face. The carvery looked like it had potential and the serving station seemed clean and hot. Unfortunately the whole thing was absolutely tasteless and it was luke warm. It was only early, and definitely not near end of service, so I couldn't see this as a reason for the temperature. My partner couldn't eat his. It's a shame as the staff are friendly and it would have been nice to come again but we won't be.

I take my Mum to Magpie and Stump now and again for Sunday lunch. She won't go to too many places because they don't provide what she calls 'sunday lunch' but Magpie and Stump has become her favourite place to go. The last time we went was Sunday 26th May. The start of the half term. We got there at 12 pm and it was already busy but the staff were friendly and helpful and Adam, who cuts the meat, was very busy for the time we were seated. The food options were wide and varied and beautifully cooked. Mum likes her veg quite soft so there were a few problems there. Nevertheless she ate most of it. We had pudding too. I cannot fault Angie and her staff nor the service and the food. Absolutely beautiful as always.

This place is horrendous! From the outside it looked ok and we were quite simply after some 'pub grub'. The girls had chicken which looked poor but they said it was 'ok'. I on the other hand tackled the lasagne, it was the cheapest and nastiest lasagne known to man. The meat was awful and they grated a fair amount of their own cheese on top which wasn't melted at all, it was quite possibly the worst meal I've ever had. I'd rather have ate the sole out of my trainer! The room was dim and it would appear half the staff were, never again!

We were out and about in Towyn and we fancied a Sunday carvery. We were all looking forward to the meal. On entering the carvery was situated upstairs which are quite steep. My friend has difficulties with stairs but we were told you can get the carvery upstairs and bring it down stairs. Fair enough we thought. So we all went to get our carvery leaving my friend down stairs. The meal was terrible! Cold soggy roast potatoes, rock hard carrots which had been sliced without being peeled, dried up peas, sweetcorn and new potatoes. You had a choice of 3 meats which all were very nice accompanied by a soggy very pale Yorkshire pudding with a stuffing ball insideThe meat was hot but rest of meal cold. There were members of staff bringing food upstairs from the kitchen. Also a young couple were trying to get the baby upstairs in a buggy and the baby almost came out!So therefore it gets a bad review from me

We was Looking forward to have something different from the same fried micro meals this area has to offer and 10 of us went here at the end of August.Money wise it's cheap at 6.50£ and with your drinks is about 10£ a head for adults so not that cheap really. No stuffing left and despite the meat looking and tasting nice the veg and potatoes were not good, mushed and bland, hot though I guess.I am my a snob at all but won't be drawn into the "ideal pub" compliments as it isn't, toilets are dirty and smelly and the upstairs area where you eat your food was like a sauna. It's ideally placed and could be so much better but certainly isn't great, just ok .

We went here for a birthday meal while, there were 7 of us and it was quite busy. We asked a female member of staff if there were any tables for 7 to be told there were only 2 tables for 4 and to sit separate, obviously we didn't want to do this as we were with 3 kids. So we went outside to decide what to do. We decided to go back and ask if we couldwait and maybe move a table when there was more available to be told they were too heavy, we wouldn't be able to move them. I spotted a small table with a big space at the side and said about sitting there and moving a small table near it. A male staff member came over and said he would move a big table for us, the lady seemed really stressed and it did make us feel like we were being a bit unreasonable asking if we could move a table so we could sit together, but she did apologise which not many people would have done. There was a good choice on the menu and a specials board too, we ordered 2 14oz mixed grills which the steak on them was cooked perfectly a lasagne and curry and chips which were very nice. And also three kids meals which my daughter said the sausages didn't taste nice but my son ate the lot. Food was really reasonably priced too. An overall good night with just a bit of a hiccup to start but I would go back.

This review is more about the food than the pub in general. My husband and I had a weeks holiday at Palins holiday camp from 27th june 2014. As part of our holiday we were able to take the 'half board' option and to be quite honest for the price i was not expecting much maybe some toast and a burger and chips in the evening, but how wrong was i? When we arrived the reception staff told us to pop next door to arrange our meals with Angie (who runs the food part of the pub aptly named Angie's). Angie was lovely and made us feel welcome, she explained to us the times for meals and what we had to do. In the mornings we could have a 6 piece cooked breakfast with toast, tea or coffee and an orange juice included, and in the evening we could choose from anything on the set menu (of which there was plenty of variety) which also included a desert of either apple crumble or ice-cream (again you can pay extra and have what you want). We were told that if we wanted any extras at breakfast we could have them and just pay a little extra and the same with the evening meals, if we wanted say, surf and turf then we just paid the extra which was more than reasonable. The staff at Angie's were very polite and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food itself is what i would call 'pub grub' for example bacon burger and chips, lasagne and chips, cottage pie, scampi and chips, mixed grill etc (you could ask for mash or a jacket potato instead if thats your preference). Everything we had on our weeks holiday was fresh, prompt and delicious. On the sunday there is a carvery which is a little earlier in the day (Due to Angie's closing for a deep clean on sunday afternoons) This seems to be very very popular and we were told to go early to avoid disappointment. I have to say the carvery was DELICIOUS we both really enjoyed it, the meat was well cooked and moist, the veggies were well cooked and there was a good selection and there were new potatoes as well as crispy roasties and a nice thick gravy :). To sum up... if you don't want the hassle of having to cook or find somewhere to eat every night and want to be waited on (after all it is a holiday!) and you are happy to eat enjoyable and scrummy 'pub style' food and a full english everyday for a week then the Magpie and Stump/Angie's is most certainly the place to go. Angie and her team really 'made' our holiday and i would recommend the half board option to anyone. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as we did and we will definately be returning soon :) .

We came in here for lunch one day as we were staying at that camp site. The food was cheap in price and basic. It was ok for what we wanted, a quick easy lunch but would have been disappointed if I expected anything more. Kids meals only £2.95 and lunch deals were 2 for £9 on adult meals so good price wise. Staff were friendly. But my partner used the free standing cash machine in there and withdrew 100 but was only given 80. Staff there couldn't do much about it and didn't really seem too bothered. :( Didn't go there for any breakfasts or dinners so can't comment. We were put off by the cash machine incident and the fact that there was a couple with a small dog allowed in, sat near to where we were eating, despite the fact there is a no dogs allowed sign on the door, but we got the impression they were regulars x

We visited Sunday afternoon, with the pub packed out for the Liverpool v City game, so the service could be expected to be stretched,The food was very reasonably priced and the meat portions were HUGE! Ok we are not talking cordon bleue cooking here, it is what it is, but the beef tasted good, and have I mentioned the servings were massive? The veg was all overcooked, but some people like it that way. The roasties were not crispy and the skin overcooked. Puddings were microwave specials with ice cream or cream, again cheap and cheerful. For a good value family meal I recommend this place, but if you are looking for a quality dining experience look elsewhere.

All meals great value for money. Make sure you try the carvery on a Sunday. You can actually book half board which is breakfast and evening meal which includes a dessert all for next to nothing. Angie runs the magpie and stump and she is a great hostess.

As a party of eleven we visited the Magpie and stump on Saturday 28th September, our party consisted of six adults and five children all of whom purchased main courses. The Magpie and Stump is a Mexican themed pub/restaurant but the choice of food on offer at the time of our visit was traditional public house fare. The children in our party selected cheese burger meals priced at £2.95, when these arrived we found them to be the size that you would expect for an adult meal, the adults all selected different main meals which varied in price with the most expensive being the mixed grill which cost just under £11.00.All of the food was well cooked and nicely presented, just what you would expect from a typical pub meal.

We went on a quiet Monday night and found the service above par, and the prices fairly decent. On the down side we found the food was pretty tasteless.

went as a party of 4 adults and 4 children. I ordered southern fried chicken burger. The menu said there may be a wait as food cooked fresh so wasn't bothered about waiting a bit. Food arrived and looked nice and plenty of it. There was no southern fried taste whatsoever, just breaded chicken. Towards the end of my meal I noticed something on my plate, picking it up it cut my finger. I took it to the counter showing the lady telling her it where I found it. The cook came flying around from the back telling me very abruptly "that did not come from my kitchen"!! I tried to explain that I found it on my plate, but just felt like I was the guilty party. I told him I wasn't asking for anything or after a free meal but wanted to point it out as it could be on other peoples plates too, I was especially worried as we had 4 children with us. He took no responsibility, just had a very bad attitude, to the point I was scared to stay there. The woman apologised and gave the children a free 50p ice cream cone. I can honestly say I will NEVER return here even though I come to the area often, and would never recommend to anyone I know. Awful attitude, very unprofessional!

Delicious food and staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We arrived for lunch in a fluster with a hungry baby and an elderly dog on a very wet Tuesday. From the moment we walked in the lobby the staff were lovely, finding us a table in a suitable area and giving us the time and space to get sorted. There was no hurry to order and they bought us coffee and water to heat the baby’s food before we ordered. Once calm was restored and we ordered the service continued to impress and the food was delicious and fairly priced. Credit to all at the hotel.

2 of the main courses were unavailable. The vegetables for the lamb course were unavailable. Alternative vegetables were given which were undercooked and cold. Potato was tasteless and cold . Did mention it to waiter whose response was sorry. £24 for a piece of lamb is unacceptable as I didn't eat the vegetables or potatoes.

Eight adults booked a table here last Wednesday and from the second we stepped into the place we were in love with it. The elegance and charm were extraordinary. Then came the 3 course meal ! Everybody raved about every course. The service was impeccable and if I lived nearer I’d be a regular! Cannot fault one detail .
