While staying at the quay hotel over Christmas for a 3 day package we ate most meals in the restaurant. On Christmas eve & Christmas day evening there was a large buffet with various hot & cold options that you could help your self to as much or as little as you wanted. All was very well presented, all freshly made & tasted good. The breakfast was help your self to the continental selection that was on offer along with the toast, then you order your hot food & drinks with the waiting staff. This seemed to be freshly cooked using good quality ingredients & was good & is so much better than a buffet style hot breakfast.Christmas day lunch we had to pre-order our main course beforehand, we were greated with a glass of champagne on arrival & our starter orders were taken, as some of our party didn't like the starters on offer the head chef prepared alternative starters for us. There was then a gin & tonic sorbet to cleanse the pallet prior to the main. The main courses turkey or fillet of beef that we had were again well presented & side dishes of vegatbles were brought to the table there was a lack of roast potatoes however more were brought to us. The helping was ample. This was followed by a selection of desserts again which were well presented freshly made & tasted good. This was then finished off we coffee & mince pies in the lounge bar, the pastry was on the thick side. The boxing day meal was also very good with a selection of meals for each course which were all presented well & tasted good & the portion size slightly reflected the amount we had eaten over the previous days which was fine as we were still full. The waiting staff were all well presented & couldn't do enough to help during our stay even though they had given up there Christmas with their families to look after the residents. The food was all of a top quality as expected of a 4 star hotel, if you have a special occasion & are in the area I would recommend eating here.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food we were served for dinner. Again our tour bus group was given a set menu with a few choices for each course. We loved the Pea Soup, the salmon entrée was a bit better than the chicken, but the Sticky Pudding and Ice Cream were truly excellent.

Turned up at 7.15pm on a Wednesday evening looking forward to a drink and some dinner outside on the deck. The food looks very good. At 7.45 we were still waiting for someone to bother to ask us if we'd like a drink or offer us a menu. Despite numerous staff walking past they don't appear to think serving paying customers is what they're employed to do. It wasn't particular busy. An experience of utterly hopeless service - the location is super but someone needs to get a grip of the staff as it looks as if nobody is running the show. Left at 7.55, having not been served. Avoid - poorly managed staff with no-one displaying any interest in service deserves to be called out.

After a lovely day at the spa we proceeded to the grill for our lunch. Lovely setting with beautiful views. However, we couldn't believe how rude the restaurant manager was. He made us feel a nuisance. Totally patronising. Extremely embarrassing. We were actually left gobsmacked and giggling as we couldn't believe our ears! It is a shame, but he has totally put us off visiting the quays again.

If you’re staying in the Quay hotel or in and around Conwy I can recommend this restaurant as a place to go. The restaurants location is superb as it looks out over the estuary. The meal we had was very good with friendly staff. You can either eat in the main restaurant or in the bar area. The prices are what you’d expect to pay in a hotel like this. All in all would definitely go back if I was in the area.

Struggled with a title for this review as the Grill Room lives up to its 4* hotel setting and price point - but only just. The main ground floor restaurant was being refurbished, so will make allowances for the slightly compromised temporary arrangements in the upstairs bar.We had dinner twice during our stay. The menu is limited but reasonably varied and they also had several different specials available each night.Food well cooked and nicely presented - we particularly liked the fish dishes.Service friendly although maybe just a bit too relaxed and there was little or no attention at the table (eg topping up wine glasses or checking how we were doing) during our meal on either evening.Overall met our needs well on evenings when we didn't want to go out but could be even better with a little effort in one or two areas.

Although the locally sourced food was very tasty the portions were far too small and expensive. Beguiled by the idea of a tempura of whitebait I became a bit suspicious when the young waiter couldn't tell me if it was made with whipped whites of eggs. Brioche isn't vegan so I pointed that out but the salad still came with the croutons. I asked them to fix it which they did.

Visited over the Christmas period for an afternoon tea as a present for my family, it was very disappointing and really failed to meet the mark. Service was great and staff are nice but these are the only positive points from our visit. The afternoon tea was badly let down by the quality of the cakes provided. All of the cakes tasted very stale and dry, it was like they had been left sitting there over the Christmas period. Not one of the cakes was moist or tasted freshly baked. All of the cakes looked like they had been purchased in and were of a poor quality/taste, I would have expected better from a quality hotel like this. The tea cake crumbled when broken and the scone had a funny lingering taste afterwards. I would avoid this place at all costs for an afternoon tea, I'm not visiting again thats for sure.

Visited the Grill Room with my husband for a special meal. I love the Quay hotel, and we were keen to try the restaurant since hearing the food has much improved lately. I was impressed with the atmosphere in the restaurant and found the service attentive, though slightly rough around the edges at times. Where the experience really fell down, however, was in the quality of the food. On paper, the guinea fowl dish I ordered sounded spectacular. Unfortunately, the reality just didn't match my expectations. Particularly disappointing was the boulangere potato, which should have been so delicious, but I found the potato hard and undercooked, and the flavour wasn't there. I'm a big fan of red cabbage, but on this occasion I found it very overpowering and thought it overwhelmed the rest of the dish. On the other hand, the guinea fowl itself was moist and tasty, so it wasn't all bad. We did mention our disappointment at the food to the waiter, who in all fairness knocked off the price of the fries we ordered and took 10% off the guinea fowl. Overall I was happy with that. I wouldn't rush back to the restaurant though, as for the price, I can find better food elsewhere locally.

I have heard a lot about the quality and standard of this hotel, the location is absolutely stunning, a view to appreciate. We a party of three turned up and were seated near the window, it may have been a good idea to clear the tables and clean them, the cleaning was done and had to be redone. We ordered the food, Haddock, Burger and Ham sandwiches, they all arrived within a reasonable timescale, the drinks also arrived, but the jug of water was missing and a gentle reminder instigated its arrival. The food was good, my Haddock was well cooked, the batter nice and crisp and very thin, the Welsh Black Burger was tasty and well presented, the Honey Roast ham Sandwich, impressive but difficult to handle without a very sharp knife. The triple cooked chips were a slight disappointment, one or two were rather firm and indicative of not being triple cooked or if they were they were on the ‘al dente’ side of firm.I am not keen on serving food on bits of wood or slate, in this instance the burger on a piece of split wood is not my taste and this poncing with good food needs to be reviewedI was impressed with most of it, I know there are one or two little niggly bits, the overall standard of service was fine, possible tempered by the busy nature of the restaurant, the views are as I stated stunning.Based on our overall impression, some minor changed and attention to detail should be considered, but, overall a very nice meal, enjoyable and one venue I will certainly be revisiting. Average plus

We ate here when staying at the hotel. We were blown away by the selection on the set menu (which was included in our stay). It was all very clear with price differences if you wanted to go off the set menu. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff were all very friendly and really took the time to get to know you. We did have to wait a little while for our wine on both nights, but they do make sure you have a full glass of water as soon as you sit down so wasn't a problem.Definitely recommend!!

Live locally and have not been too impressed at times in the past. We decided, after hearing of new ownership and a change of chef to give it another go. Very glad we did!! Restaurant dinner is much improved with the highlight for me the shoulder of lamb. Service we OK lacking in some aspects but all the staff were very friendly and wanting to help which made up for a couple of shortfalls. My wife insisted we returned for Sunday lunch. The beef was fantastic. All in all well worth a visit if you havent been in a while. I was informed the menu is changing soon. We will be back to sample. Well done to all involved.

Great location for meeting up with friends and family for a casual lunch in the bar area, the views from the terrace over the estuary to Conwy Castle in one direction and Penmaenmawr mountain are fabulous. We chose a simply lunch from the bar menu, the tanlan bread is excellent the club sandwich was overflowing with prawns, but the chips needed are few more seconds in the fryer,The young chap that took our order was polite and friendly..

I eat here with my wife for our anniversary. My meat was raw inside and knowing the danger of eating uncooked meat I returned it. This meant that my wife eat her meal with me watching and she then watched me eat mine. It would have been so much better if we could have eaten together.

Absolutely loved the food served at The Grill. It was so tasty and there was so much to choose from. The 3 course meal is great value for money if you choose this or it is included in the dine and stay option. The service was great too - staff very friendly and efficient. I would go back to this restaurant in a heat beat. We left so full after our evening meal. It was amazing! We also had the breakfast in the morning which again was very tasty, with good veggie options too. So much choice!!

I had eaten in the bar during a visit to Deganwy with my aged Mother last year. Impressed, I booked a table in the restaurant for lunch last Sunday - special wedding anniversary treat for my husband who has had a rough 5 months. I had explained when I booked that we needed a table that would accommodate a wheelchair. Was the table ready, NO. Was it in a place with easy access, NO. We ordered drinks and then our food. Service from then on was dreadful - a number of young girls were waiting on and they clearly had had little or no training. No bread was served and when we asked for some, no butter, When the mains were brought, no spoons for serving vegetables then no horseradish with the beautiful rare roast beef (the menu said Roast Beef served with Horseradish sauce) the horseradish was requested, it came, no spoon to serve it. Dessert order taken, and I still hadn't got my second soft drink ordered when the roast beef arrived and re-ordered once we started to eat. When I told one of the young girls, she patted me on the shoulder and said "I forgot" Familiarity............................NO WAY ACCEPTABLE. I did tell the head waiter and he said he would "have a word". It was a pity...............all the food was fabulous - in fact the best Vanilla Cream Tart and Blackcurrant Sorbet ever but, we'd have to be sure about service if we were to visit again

On the second night of our stay we had a bar meal at the grill room and it was lovely. I had the Welsh black beef burger and I can honestly say it was one of the best burgers I have ever eaten. My wife had the plaice which again she said was lovely . The prices were very reasonable, the dearest part was the wine but you do expect to pay more in a hotel so can't complain. We will defiantly eat here again when we return for a break.

Our hotel stay here was excellent, let down a little by the service and selection of food in the Grill Room. It was not bad, just not great. They were also busy, but service could have been better.

The menu in the Lounge Bar is exceptionally unimaginative & unappealing. Nothing to excite the taste buds here. Struggled to find anything to choose. Tired old starters like prawns in marie-rose sauce. Stodgy mains like chicken in white wine sauce, battered cod, gammon, pork and bacon-laced spaghetti. Boring choices like plain grilled plaice with chips & peas. The absence of at least one healthy gourmet option, imaginative salad or tasty, sophisticated main course is surprising. It reminded me of the sort of food you might find on an pub menu in its pre-gastropub days. For such a lovely hotel in such a stunning location, the food is very disappointing.

We booked a table for 8 on 1st August, including 2 small children, for a celebration meal, intended to suit a one and two year old - a 'grill' style bar/restaurant implies good food in nice surroundings and not over formal or long winded. Our table was booked for lunch at 1:30 pm, time of the hotel's choosing. We arrived early and made ourselves known to staff who asked if we were having high tea! We were not told that the table was ready, invited to move to the dining room, brought menus, food, condiments, cutlery suitable for small children (tea spoons), menus for sweet choice or anything else unless the passing staff had been asked to come over. We remain completely in the dark as to who was in charge of waiting on our table. One of our party was asked if they had enjoyed the meal and she responded, yes, except for the parts she had left, tough samfire stalks, carrot roots and tops; no response. After another of the long waits in which to ponder our mistake, we ordered and eventually were brought the sweets, these were very nice, but it is irritating to have to use the handle of a dessert spoon to eat a lemon posset served in a narrow shot glass!!The whole experience took us three and a half hours, and it was only as fast as that because we kept pushing for 'service'. I am not bothering to relate the whole sorry saga, as it is obvious that the Management can't be bothered to read or act on reviews. So, for anyone wanting a meal in the Llandudno, Deganwy or Conwy area, AVOID the Quay.

We arrived at the Quay Hotel for one nights stay, the hotel itself in very nice and the reception staff exceptional they couldn't have been more helpful if the tried, but unfortunetly that's where the compliments stop!!The service in the restaurant is diabolical to say the least, it was a Wednesday night not particularly busy, we where shown to the table and presented with menus, 45 minutes later we were asked if we would like to order a drink, 15 minutes later the drinks arrived, he then took our food order 1 hour later we got our starter, once we had finished out starter it took another 1 hour for the mains to arrive, once we had finished our mains we were asked if we would like a dessert, we asked could we look at a menu, it took another 1/2 hour until we decided that we didn't want to wait anymore so we flagged a waiter down and expressed our dissapoinent about the service or lack of it!! The food was ok!!We were originally looking for a 2 night break but we could not get in for 2 nights fully booked, how lucky was that. The following morning we checked out and went to The Imperial hotel in Llandudno what a difference fantastic service friendly staff. Perfect. May I suggest that the management of the Quay Hotel take there Restaurant staff to The Imperial to see how it's done.Needless to say we won't be returning.

We were originally booked in for 3 nights in a Suite but cancelled and brought the booking forward to take advantage of the hot weather w/c 29th June . The Quay was fully booked so we stayed elsewhere but made a dinner reservation for the evening of June 30th ............. So the comments pertain only to the Restaurant. We sat on the terrace that overlooks the Conwy Estuary ,great vista. Most of the tables were dirty with glasses and plates still on the theme.Grabbing a waiter/waitress was a task. Eventually ordered a bottle of wine and informed the waiting staff we had a table booked at 8.15 pm. They confirmed the fact and that they would add the wine to our bill.Nobody informed us that the table was ready so at 8.25pm we entered the "Grill Room" carrying the ice bucket with the wine bottle in it ! We waited 5-7 minutes before we got picked up by waiting staff. The vision inside was of more dirty tables and the bar stacked with dirty glasses ! it looked like the "Wedding Party Venue" the morning after ! see pics.Eventually we got a table . This needed a little bit of "adjustment" as the butter had melted and looked like it was someone else's ! We had menus and I thought a safe decision would be a steak being in "The Grill Room "After the unenterprising "1960's" Prawn Cocktail. We received an apology that our main courses were running late . Fair enough. Eventually the steak turned up . Clearly the Kitchen was under pressure had grilled the steak on too higher flame as part of it was quite black , some just over cooked and some raw .Quite a unique feat in culinary terms ! . The strange black thing on the plate started its life out as a mushroom . I requested some english mustard to accompany the steak and the waiter clearly thought he was catering to one of the "Coach Parties" returning with a small bucket of the stuff ...totally bizarre....This was then followed by some rather bland very unspecial "Special Passerella's local ice cream"....So what we had was Prawn Cocktail/Steak/Ice Cream £27.50 !They made a reduction of 15% off the bill for the Steak...Be warned .The Quay take in massive coach parties ,in fact there was an American Tour in the night we ate at the "Grill Room"... Consequently the kitchen gets hit with large table numbers and cannot cope and balance quality and the waiting staff are overwhelmed which is why the place is a disaster . It is probably the usual problem of a General Manager looking at spreadsheets in his office as opposed to getting out in the "Customer Area" to actually see what a mess the place is . Thank god we never stayed there, I shudder to think what that would have been like ....Avoid this place at all costs

I've only actually been here for breakfast: a treat to myself for dragging my bones to the gym before 9am. Treat is the appropriate word, since this rare pleasure is one I look forward to immensely. I am always well looked after, well attended and the full Welsh is a marathon of a thing. I've learned after repeated visits to employ the art of temperance (not having absolutely everything on offer just because it's there).

We went for a snack lunch on a hot sunny day. Parking was easy, there was no problem with disabled access to the hotel and restaurant and we were able to get a well placed table on the terrace looking across the water with great views of Conwy and its castle.Service was excellent and we especially enjoyed the salmon sandwich. The seafood chowder was tasty but seemed to be a rather small portion. As well as admiring the many boats at anchor and on the quayside, we were entertained by a kleptomaniac gull which tried to clear food from vacated tables before the staff could get there.
