Magor Services in Monmouthshire

Just left Magor services after stopping for a bite to eat at Mcdonalds. It was absolutely filthy there, both serving and seating areas. Best advice would be to keep driving and wait til you get home.

Beware of parking charges and a fine if you stay more than 2 hours and do not pay for any time you stay, over the 2 hours. I have never visited a Motorway Services in the UK where there is a limit on how long you can stay for 'free' and parking charges for any additional time. There were signs apparently, but I didn't read them as it didn't enter my head they would be about parking charges - I thought they were probably the usual disclaimer, should my car be damaged. Stopped here for some food and a drink before my onward journey. I was unwell whilst there, won't go into detail, but needed to wait until I was sure I could make it home without needing the toilet (1 hour, 30 minute return journey). This resulted in my staying some 2 hours over the 'free' time allowed. I have received a fine of £100, reduced to £60 if I pay within 14 days. I appealed. Explaining I have Coeliac Disease and what happened. They are not interested. I even offered a reduced payment of the £60 (acknowledging I hadn't read the signs) but the £60 stands. Won't be going there again.

I had to stop and take a break if I had been here before I would have kept driving, passing out and dying behind the wheel would have been a better experience. The call of nature was to blame in hindsight I should have just let rip in the van. The carpark is like an obstacle course the bends are so tight, the toilets are just horrendous. I overheard a guy saying he had the best shower ever it’s probably the only clean part of the place just by default from people self cleaning the area with their own showering and soaps. Helped myself to a coffee at the Costa machine I couldn’t wait to get away from this place.

Facilities inside are excellent, dog friendly and a section off grub.. However if you are towing a caravan it’s very risky!!! You need to park with other cars and the bend is so tight you could almost hit cars!! The lady I spoke to who worked inside the facilities told me her work colleague parked on the bend and sadly it got hit by someone towing a caravan!! Sadly I won’t be going back if I’m towing but will come back without the giant whale on my car x

5* review to the staff at Costa & WH Smith for helping & supporting me when I arrived having broken down in my car. The staff I spoke to you were helpful , kind & reassuring as they helped me contact my recovery company. Excellent customer service. Thank you

Got a chicken and bacon ceasar wrap from mcdonalds and when I went outside to eat it, I was extremely disappointed to find the most abysmal amount of food inside the wrap. It was half filled at best, with half a piece of bacon and only 1 chicken select. Went back to let them know, and got another wrap. Second wrap was also only half filled although this one had two selects in it. Ended up putting the fillings from the first wrap into the second and rewrapping the new one with the old wrap as it was all torn at the bottom. When I was waiting for the replacement, the kitchen staff were blatantly pointing and staring at me whilst laughing. Overall not a great experience, however I’ve given it 2 stars instead of 1 as the man I spoke to was nice about it, and apologetic.

Absolutely fabulous trip to the magor services. Spent £230 on the fruit machines and lost it all, but life goes on. Will be doing the same next time I have more than £10 in my bank account. The adjacent hotel has perfect single rooms if I find myself kicked out of the house by my girlfriend and availability at short notice is always welcome. Shall be having our wedding reception at the days in when we finally decide to tie the knot, and I will be inviting my children in the hopes that I can see their faces again, as they haven’t spoken to me in over 10 years.

Limped into Magor services at 6.30am with a puncture, en route to look after a v elderly relative. V frustrating & stressful. Rescue services gave us a 2/3 hr time window for help, so I went into the services to see what to do re parking time as we would go over the 2 hour time limit. WH Smith staff were really helpful- they booked the car in for 24 hours, & gave us complimentary drinks plus water for the dog. A very big thank you to Amy, Jordan & Ashley in WH Smith - you were so kind! WH Smith should be proud of their excellent staff!!!!!!😊😊😊 Hope they read this.

Well there is nothing good to say about this services mcdonalds is being refurbished and there was long queues everywhere else ot looked like it was at least 30 mins before you got your order.the services looked very tired avoid if you have snd sense

Another coffee franchise that refused to serve coffee in a cup. Next time I will walk away. If I wanted a coffee in a takeawy cup there's plenty of vending machines about. £4.05 for large Americano in a takeaway cup. Staff not friendly. Won't be clearing after myself here.

The showers here are the cleanest I’ve been to for years. Always come to these services if I’m in wales. Will driver the extra mileage just to use these showers. Great work by the cleaners

Despite being a busy Saturday, the service we received at Costa was exceptional. Tables were clean, staff very friendly and the manager was excellent. Highly recommend

The toilets looked like they hadn't been clean in years, they were absolutely disgusting. Easily the worst toilets I have experienced at a service station in the UK.

We stopped here for a breakfast break on the way to Tenth for the day, You order from a touch screen, I had a breakfast box, extra sausage and bacon my Wife had a filled muffin, the breakfast just about confederate bottom of the small box it came in even with the extra items and the coffee i had, one dip was enough,in drinkable, My wife's choice fairer a bit better as she had Orange juice and it's hard to get that wrong, will pass on by in the future

Stopped for coffee on Bank holiday Monday. Costa was fairly busy but the service was as efficient as the machines allowed and very cheerful.

Absolutely shocking all tables In McDonalds dirty left over food cups and bags on table got served breakfast on a dirty counter they just can’t cope with bank holiday volume of people here at all would have thought they’d have cleaned up between closing main menu to breakfast menu

Awful McDs here. Waited ages for our order along with a large crowd of people also waiting ages. Finally received order but had to go back - no milk, no ketchup, no pancake syrup and no fork and knife. The manager I asked was perfunctory and rather dismissive. No apology given. The young girl on the till in WHSmith was not happy to be there. Overall, not a great introduction to a wonderful country.

It was terrible order McDonald's on the app went in to collect it had to wait 15 mins for meal the coffee was cold when I finally got it they made the drinks then leave them on the side the staff very rude rather stand there talk to each other than serve the food

Rude staff and a employee with red hair went far enough to make a reserved child cry. She ordered a cheese and ham toastie and was handed a vegan one. She told the red hair lady that it wasn’t hers but rudely and abruptly told ‘it is yours’. My wife went in to sort it out and was told ‘what makes you think that it is vegan’. She then pulled it apart meaning that she had been there since 6am. Surprisingly the employee found no ham. No apology given. Costa need to sack these employees as they do nothing for the company image.

What has happened to these services? It’s always so busy yet it’s run down, tired looking, lack of seating for food. In all a very unpleasant experience- take a toilet stop then escape very quickly.

Visited Mac donalds to be given cold food and coffee that tasted like it contained cleaning chemicals and even the coffee that was offered to replace first tasted the same. I gave up complaining. The eating area was a disgrace, tables sticky, chairs dirty and no cleaner to be seen.

Iam absolutely disappointed with the cleaning of the mc donalds in roadchef magor it is disgusting where are the cleaners there is an old man that cleans it and he does an amazing job but when he isn't in the other cleaner doesn't clean very well he sits around in whsmiths talking all nite

Visited mc donalds on the way to a car show ,now this was early at 6am ,ive never seen a disgrace like it,every table was full of rubbish,the bins over flowing,the stand which the bin was in was piled up ,receipts on the tables indicated that the rubbish had been there over two hours

I was pleasantly surprised how clean and airy the room was in the hotel and as it was rush hour we visited the Roadchef to get food. I had never bought noodles to takeaway before and was pleased it was there as the only other choices was a MacDonald's or a Costa.

Stopped off for a breakfast wrap veggie being told they had run out of wraps we asked if we could have the breakfast with brown bread. When we had the meal 20 minutes later the bread was white no mushrooms as stated and brown sauce when I asked for red sauce £17 later and to top it off the banging noises from the back of the wall where we were sitting down we asked the manager who then replied they were knocking an old wall down I replied well couldnt they knock the wall down at night when the place is quiet. We then complained about the service and how appauling the food was she did say that she passed on our Concerns however we didn't get a refund or an appology from the resutrant area. Avoid like the plague you get better service in a greasy spoon cafe might I say they should wear apooriate uniforms that fit people of a larger size as this is a turn off especially when your eating your food you might as well as go and eat at bristol zoo

Visited during the week at lunchtime I think the place must be having refit S the loos where outside in a temporary building. I had a McDonald's which was the normal fast food fare. This place is your big standard type of service station.

What a shame that as you cross the wonderful new bridge to cross the border into Wales, the first services! you come across is the Roadchef Magor up on the left, how does this place pass hygiene inspections? the place is filthy! the "loos" are a portacabin ! by the entrance and its bad just to walk into! but even the one loo inside for mobility customers is the same, surely these cannot be cleaned regularly or certainly not thoroughly! the floors inside the retaurant were dirty and littered, wont be using this one again! and yes I am a regular visitor to wales for family, and this was a first and last.....time to this roadchef.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Do the people who run Magor Services ever read these reviews, because there certainly hasn't been any improvement since my last visit. If anything, things have become even worse. The toilets are being refurbished, but the temporary toilet block was still dirty and smelly. Come on Magor Services Management. This is a busy motorway service station, but surely you can keep it much cleaner than it currently is? There is also a dog walking area which is located by some picnic benches.... for those who want to eat food outdoors surrounded by dog poo. Perhaps the management cannot take responsibility for irresponsible dog owners, but should picnic benches and a doggy toilet really be situated in the same area? I think not! Magor Service Station has a captive customer base being located on the M4, but that doesn't mean it can be allowed to get away with poor standards and something needs to be done to improve the place.

Everything you would want in one place! For a highway service stop we were pleased with the amenities available.

Parked in designated caravan lane. Found ourselves blocked in by lorries because HGV parking full. Drivers couldn't move to let us out as they were on designated breaks. A shambles. Needs sorting. Won’t be back

I used the toilet here on a very recent trip to wales. I have used this services many many times in the past. This time it smelt as if the toilet floor had been cleaned with a urine soaked mop. They really need to sort the cleaning staff out - disgusting!

This morning myself and husband popped into Magor services for a coffee and breakfast before travelling the remaining journey to our work destination for the day. I asked for our tea and coffee at Costa in take away cups, but also for some toast (don’t ask for brown you’ll never get it, why I don’t know when it’s popular) and a croissant (these not take away). The toast was shoved in a take away container along with the croissant, and the rude server just placed them on the top with no thank you, nothing. My husband asked for butter, why you have to ask for butter I don’t know, I’ve never had to ask before? The guy serving was unbelievably rude and rolled his eyes, he then gave my husband frozen butter, when he asked if they had something softer and non frozen, he said no and walked away.

Me and my wife popped in to Costa for breakfast and coffee on a business trip to Gloucester, only to receive bad service off the young man serving us.

Stopped off at the Magor Services on the Motorway- this is the first services that you come too off the M4 over the Severn bridge. Usual service facilities and good clean ones too. Nice work guys. Will come back on the way home.

I like this services as it has a really good McDonalds. There's a starbucks and some other eating places. It's a dated building, but is clean enough with a nice gift shop selling welsh stuff too. A good place for a stop off.

The last few times I visited the services I have had a multiple of problems such as cold food, things that I wanted removed from food that wasn’t and just pure slow, uninviting service, within the last few weeks there has been a young lad Jamie with a white shirt on and black hair who has seemed to changed things around. The service has been quick and friendly with a few check backs to my table. he offered to bring the food over to us via the new table service option while I was ordering at the machine, which meant the food was warm and I had more time to sit down. Today I had cold fries which he replace with a larger portion of warm fresh fries which was a great touch. He’s just generally made my visits and this last month more welcoming. Looks like a great turn around for the services.

Not the most modern services. It’s dirty and doesn’t look like it gets clean often but does have everything you need for a quick pit stop. There is another services less than 2 miles away, plan ahead. This is the last service area heading west bound on the M4, next time I think I will stop a little earlier.

Would like to thank Debbie and Rebecca for all there help at Roadchef at the Magor Services, my dad was taken ill and these two people helped us to ensure my dad was ok to head home. Thanks again for all your help.

This service station appears to have had no investment made in it for many many years. The car park needs resurfacing and sorting out to cope with the bigger cars that many people drive. The spaces are too narrow.

I’ve been here so many times and yes it’s not the most modern rest stop and needs investment but is mostly ok but a few times I’ve been recently the toilets have been disgusting, poo and wee on the floor, trodden on and walked into the main area between the eating area and no management to be found.

Very friendly staff at costa and great customer service. I was asked if I would like an icecube in my black coffee, which is what I often do at home as the coffee is super hot without milk. First time I've ever been asked from the barista, I would normally need to ask them.

We have a touring caravan and EVERY single time we go there lorries are parked in the caravan bays even though there have been many vacant spaces in the lorry park! Its just a few steps closer to the services building. It is really so annoying, complaining to service staff makes absolutely no difference!

Standard motor way services clean easy to park and as well as McDonald’s and Costa and Smiths also motorway cafe area. Food was hot and not expensive. Choice quite limited but was fine for what it was.

Hotel was very clean and staff excellent services. Went to Costa in the morning, again services was excellent staff was very chatty, what i needed before a long day ahead. I sat in Dining area was okay people cleaning, over all services looking tiered and needs updating. i must say the toilets was outdated and little cold but they was clean. Parking spaces are little small but other than that one of the better services i stopped in.

Called last night for a comfort break. The ladies toilets should have been closed on health grounds. Filthy nappies and sanitary products strewn on the floors. The smell was horrendous. Printed signs telling us that major works were in progress! No water in the taps. Sanitizers were provided!

Stopped just to use loos . Most blocked . And the smell . The smell of urine met you as soon as walking they the doors . The loos were filthy floor wet and smelly.

Lots of comments on here - people expecting the ritz. It's not that bad - it's fairly clean, well laid out and has good variety of places to eat. We used it as a toilet break heading into Cardiff. It's easy to get to - don't let the negtavitiy put you off...

Stopped for breakfast at 7am this morning. Breakfast took 20 minutes as I asked for an egg??? Some hot food but mostly cold on the plate. Every single table filthy, floors filthy, toilets filthy. Staff and management clearly have given up. Such a shame, used to be a good stop, will be driving straight past from now on.

This is a great services. There is great places to eat and drink or grab a snack. Great place to stop off on a long journey.

I always stop here on way to London or back to Cardiff, there is a hotel, a good selection of shops to eat, macdonald’s, Costa coffee, whsmith etc

In the process of fighting cp plus who are responsible for setting parking costs at ROADCHEF in Mayor. Research the internet and you will find a whole host of upset customers apparently your over stay costs them £180.00 even if it is 5am in the morning....has anyone else had this experience....more importantly fought and won?

After a long journey , I was desperate for the loo. The services were very busy and parking was difficult , I left my disabled husband in the car and went off to the loo.The first empty loo I came across had the seat up and was the filthiest I have ever seen. The underside was stained brown and didn`t look as if it had eve been cleaned I have reported this to staff but after I got home , as I was concerned about leaving my husband .

Motorway services are not renown for style or culinary excellence and Magor Services does not fail to meet these low standards. If you want toilets and a coffee, then it gets a thumbs up. Anything else be prepared to queue and pay too much. Costa Coffee operates efficiently and delivers on their usual formula. There is also a McDonalds but the queues are long as the prices are not motorway inflated. Alternatively there is a WH Smith’s if you just want to pick up a snack.

Couldn't drink the coffee, it tasted like the coffee beans were burnt and as for the tea, why do they insist on putting the milk in immediately after the tea bag?! Tea was still milky white after half an hour of 'stewing'. Disappointing Costa, won't call there for beverages again.

Regularly stop here when driving up and down the country and it always seems to be busy. There have been occasions where the toilets are a mess but i'm inclined to believe this is due to the poor behavior of patrons rather than the fault of the services.

Serves as a holiday coach station with a couple of fast food outlets and a WH Smiths. Fuel station as you'd expect.

We stopped using this facility because of the poor conditions that exist and the absence of a manager who controls the many young staff employed. We met some visitors this weekend at the services and found that the same poor, pathetic conditions still exist particularly in the McDonalds outlet. The toilets are a disgrace and the whole building needs gutting, cleaning & refurbishment. This situation has existed for a number of years and is clearly the responsibility of the managers and supervisors.

This was our first stop after crossing the bridge into Wales and what a disappointment it was. It was so tired and rundown with a couple of benches outside the front door. There was a McDonald's, which was very busy, and a noodle bar and another area selling hot food, plus a WH Smith's. We got a very decent coffee from the Costa and sat out in the back garden, which could be quite nice if the picnic benches weren't all broken! The toilets were adequate and clean. Money definitely needs to be spent on this place!

Rather than the junk outlets do try chozen noodle. Nice noodle and curry dishes at 7.95 for a main Speedy service and in my opinion good value

An absolute dreadful advertisement for Wales and probably most peoples first stop after the Severn Bridge. The whole place is dirty, untidy and scruffy. The toilets (lets face it - the main reason anyone ever stops at these rip-off joints) were disgusting. poorly maintained and just smelt like an open sewer.

We live locally but still popped in to try the noodle shop. The whole place is clean and tidy and was well looked after. Noodles with Chicken Teriyaki werevery good.

Magor services has got the usual array of fast food outlets if that is what you require as well as the other shops selling expensive sundries.The toilet facilities are clean and tidy which is not always the case in my experience.Overall,decent enough.

It is a small but compact services,everything there eating areas a wh smith a budget hotel.It does it's job.

Services on the M4 in Wales. It's ok but the car park is not easy to navigate. Good clean toilets with cubicles.

I called into the services just before 7pm this evening. At the Rest Bite the server was cleaning up behind the counter and there wasn't much food on view. I asked if they had any halloumi in batter, but none was available, they did have scampi and cod but they had run out of mushy peas and the only side available was beans. We gave up in disgust and went to Chozen Noodles instead. We both fancied the prawn curry but they were low on both the sauce and the ready cooked prawns so they offered to cook some more up but it would be about 8 mins wait. Given the lack of other options we chose to wait, the server took our order and said we should go sit down, within 10 mins she brought our piping hot food over. It was tasty enough but the noodles had obviously been sat around for some time judging from the texture of them. I did go to take my coat off, but it was too cold in the restaurant seating area to do so. All right for a quick pit stop with the dogs, but not worth stopping otherwise.

Cold physically, cold hospitality-it did not matter which outlet you went to. Dirty unkempt toilets. Poor decor throughout. The coffee was poor and the tables were uncleaned but worse dirty. Roadchef management should be brought to account by their shareholders because this is a disgrace. Monmouthshire County Council, who are just the other side of the motorway, would do well to send their environmental heath officers to inspect.

Good place to let dogs out for wee. MacDonald very slow service for my son happy meal and chozen noodles little rude when ordering. Told I can't bring back if don't like it. Disappointing attitude after 150 miles in car

Has the feel of an oversized cafe staffed by the same family members whether they know what there doing on not. Outside you will find more smokers than I have gathered in one place for a long time and thus have to pass through the fog of smoke fumes. Inside the Costa/Noodle bar and general fried outlet seem to be staffed by the same people who literally run from outlet to outlet as needs must. There is also a McDonalds and small WHSmiths. The toilets have a circular shared wash basis with plunger style water foursets that when activated appear to be powered by a jet wash motor that dispenses boiling water at a ferocious rate for circa 0.2 seconds before stopping, leaving the user covered in splash back but not very cleansed. Overall I would recommend you give it a miss if you can.

Having stopped here this morning for breakfast we were rather taken aback. The cooked food was hidden and nobody appeared to be serving. A tall lady eventually came along, I politely asked what the breakfast options were. She didn’t reply, but searched for a board and stood it on the counter. Her manner reminded us of the mute, rude character “Kiosk Keith” on I’m A Celebrity!

Well just had the displeasure of having to visit Magor services - the toilets are the worst putrid smelling run down services I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame that anyone visiting Wales would have the misfortune of using those toilets as their first Welsh experience. Really really bad. Avoid, pull over and go in a bush it’s probably more hygienic and will smell better.

This is the worst services I have ever seen. It literally stinks from the moment you open your car door, I’m serious. The toilets are diabolical, the breakfast we had was awful. The car park is dirty and potholed. I’ve lived in Wales for forty five years and never stopped here as I’m near home. I’m honestly ashamed to think that travellers here get this impression. The owners managers ought to be much more ASHAMED. If it were possible to give a minus ten I would.

Omg!! Magor services was once voted the worst services in the country. Surprise, surprise it probably still is. The smell coming from the toilets reaches the restaurant area. Visitors arriving in Wales and stopping at these services must feel like turning around and going back over the bridge. The toilets are disgusting. No seats, locks missing, filthy dirty!! The place should be shut down. Can't the people running the site notice the smell and the state of the place. Don't stop - keep going. This place is not representative of Wales.
