Magno cafe in Thurrock

Whenever I fancy a decent breakfast to perk me up, I always pop along to the Magno for a fry up. Don't be put off by the 3 star Food Standards Agency hygiene rating - this place is a real gem. Quality food, proper sausages and extremely good value for money. Proper cafes are few and far between but this is my favourite.

Food was lovely. Cooked perfectly. However the waitress, think he name was Trina (older lady) was very rude and short when I wanted to take some stuff of my set breakfast. And for that reason I won’t be revisiting. Compliments to the chef though as the food was beautiful. Shame such miserable moany staff.

Thought id try it out and have to say the food was really nice would deffo eat in here again. look forward to visiting again soon.

We use the Magno cafe fairly often for a bacon sarnie but today we had a takeaway breakfast. OMG - it was fabulous. Portion sizes are great, food stayed hot and it was delicious. I can not recommend this cafe enough. Pop in and help support a local business!

Fantastic Sunday dinner, would normally have a pudding, but to full. Everything was cooked to a very high standard. Will be eaten there again.

Nipped in for an egg and bacon sandwich. Extra thick bread decent bacon, egg cooked just right and good mug of tea.

The staff were very attentive and service was very prompt. I had the fish and chips which were the best that I have had at Sudbury House. My friend had the steak, which although was cooked a little more than the requested rare, was excellent and the pink peppercorn sauce was very delicious. Sadly we were too full to have a dessert. which was a shame because the choice was very tempting, next time hopefully! I live very locally and value having such a lovely place to eat out within walking distance of home.

Slightly lack-lustre but surprisingly comprehensive wine list and very pleasant staff. I'm sure that there is more atmosphere in the dining room during the day but it doesn't really lend itself to an evening.

Nice filling fried breakfast good amounts of everything reasonable price,place was nice and clean,staff were pleasant and helpful was very good.

Lovely food with a reasonable balance of meat and vegetables quite rare these days. The food was also beautifully presented. The staff were efficient and competent but at the same time pleasant friendly and cheerful especially the young waitresses who served us.

The food was prepared and presented very well and served by really friendly and efficient staff, particularly Charlie and Gemma. They went out of their way to ensure that our exact requirements were met. There was a varied menu to choose from.

Setting was modern, comfortable and not overly busy for a Sunday lunch. Food and service were amazing!

We enjoyed our visit to the Magnolia Brasserie. The only complaint is that the strawberry trifle was not up to the standard that I would have expected for a £7 dessert. It was obviously served straight out of the 'fridge and was extremely cold, with the result that it tasted bland and the true flavours were taken away by the coldness! It was not my idea of what a trifle should be. In addition, the "warm" bakewell tart, although very nice, was barely warm. However, the service was excellent and the surroundings very nice.

We were extremely disappointed as it was our wedding anniversary, we had heard about restaurant 57 which is where we thought we would be eating. Not the case, found food and presentation mediocre. Ordered drinks which arrived a while after our starter. While ambience was not what we expected. Never mind next year!

We chose this restaurant because it appeared as dog friendly and we wanted to try the traditional Sunday Roast. First disappointment: they tell us that in the restaurant no, it has to be on the terrace of a beautiful garden. As it is a good day, we don't care (although we don't like eating on terraces). The service is slow, but we are not in a hurry. Finally the first dishes arrive and with them they begin to wander the wasps. One of the diners is allergic to their bites. We commented it. No solution. We barely finish the first ones (which are not like to shoot rockets) and comment if we can move inside. They tell us yes, but we have to leave the dog outside even though the room is practically empty. We tell them that for nothing and they don't give us any solution. We commented that this is not a dog friendly restaurant, but as if I hear it rain. We decided to leave and all the detail and apology you have with us is to present us with an account of approximately half of the amount of the 3-course menus that we had requested. A shame and a huge disappointment.

First time we have been and we will most certainly go back! Excellent meal/service/setting.

The restaurant is really well decorated and the staff were very welcoming. The service was prompt and friendly without being overbearing. The food was excellent and the portion sizes are large so be prepared

The food is fine but the brasserie is too big. The space should be broken up using screens/plants to create an atmosphere more like Restaurant 56, which is superb.

Such a lovely place to go that is different and feels like a treat ! Garden / patio area is beautiful - restaurant is very modern and staff are exceptionally friendly and polite ! We only came for a quick lunch but felt so well treated and looked after ! Great spacious place for parking the pram! Very clean and well presented ! What a lovely restaurant, we had some fantastic food, we had the sourdough bread which is amazing flavour, I had pork for my main and it melted in my mouth, hubby had fish and he was over the moon, and the service was great as well. Will be back soon.

I love eating at The Brasserie. The food is always excellent and the service is just right. I often visit with a friend who is vegan and the chef is always willing to create something scrumptious for her.

We have been wanting to go to this resturant for years, and finally for my wife's birthday, we did just that. The food was outstanding; the staff matched the quality, overall; if you ever you visit the Cotswold and need a base, you'll not be disappointed, if you use this hotel as a base.......

As ever Magnolia Brasserie food wise is Faringdon's best kept secret. Starters and puddings are excellent. Sunday lunch very good. Must mention that more variety of greens would be appreciated . Broccoli plus broccoli on the side is repetition of green. May I suggest a small jug of gravy be offered at the start. Is too late having once tucked into your food. Restaurant decor is very good but somehow there lacks a comfortable ambience . Everything too spaced out. I like privacy but feel isolated. Drinks and food , why would I need to travel out of Faringdon.

The service was outstanding - nothing too much trouble for the staff in the restaurant. I was very impressed and will definitely come back.

Very friendly and accommodating...lovely to meet Nick Bennet who was happy to pose for a photo with our children and then go on to cook an amazing meal for us all.

Food was excellent. Service was quick but inexperienced service staff was a concern. We needn’t have worried it all worked well. One oddity was the requirement to sign a disclaimer when we asked to take away our left overs in a doggie bag. That seemed a little OTT. But it wasn’t a problem it was simply odd.

Party of 4, 2 adults and 2 children. Food was excellent. Been many times before always let down just by how few people dining, no ambience. Thankfully the restaurant was quite full, so fab evening had by all! Staff always attentive.

Have not been in years but fancied a brekkie and as my mate helped me with the car used that as an excuse for a sneaky breakfast. Proper cafe feel and i felt out of place as did not have a hi viz on. Packed but got a table. Order at the front and all the girls working hard in the background. You get a ticket and they then bring your food to you. Had a number 3 which was ample. Mate had a number 2 and change a couple of things, with no hassle or cost. With some more toast came to £13 for the both of us, including drinks. All was good and warm, compared to the breakfast I had in London is a nice change. Really nice bacon and the black pudding was good. French toast was not greasy either. All in all very good and wont leave it so late next time

Very good place to eat. It was quite quiet when we went which I liked. I have only knocked it down a star because the salt pot was empty (this should be checked regularly) and the mushroom with my steak was far too salty (almost inedible and I like salt). The staff were all very friendly and I would definitely come back again.

Great food at a reasonable price, and brilliant to find somewhere nice that was open so late on a Sunday. The only down side was an unexpected 10% mandatory tip that we only noticed after we'd paid. Bit cheeky.

Disappointing,we do not like garlic and were told it was in the gravy. Chef allowed us to taste it, but there was no suggestion that an alternative was available. Don’t like Sunday roast without gravy. First choice of meat had run out and only other choice was beef which came very rare. I like my meat cooked!

Stopped by for lunch. Excellent little cafe with plenty of variety and some fixed price breakfasts. Had no4, should have gone for no5. Will visit again.

We enjoyed our lunch at the Magnolia Brasserie. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only minor complaint was that we had to wait quite a long time for our food to be served. However, because of this, the gratuity was deducted from our bill. I would recommend this restaurant and would go again.

The so-called music you provide is dreadful; loud and tuneless. I understand the need to provide some background music especially if there aren&#039;t many guests in the restaurant. The need for such background music diminishes as the restaurant fills up and in any case in the Magnolia there is the added background noise from the kitchen which adequately provides the ambience needed.<br /><br />That said our waiter did have the volume turned down which was appreciated.<br /><br />John Gibson.

We ate outside. Lovely view. Shame about the noise and smell of the extractors. Great gin menu but gins not served with any of the garnishes from the menu. All came with lemon or lime.

Contemporary spacious airy dining experience, no fuss but great service and amazing food, very good vfm and a lovely setting.

I have been before but I was excited to return with my parents as I knew they would love it and they did. The waiters are extremely friendly and helpful and the vegetarian choices are superb, which many eateries lack. Lovely place, will definitely be back.

Delicious fresh food made virtually infront of us. Everyone had something different and equally happy with their choices. Service was good. Lovely restaurant.

Popped in for lunch. Chose the fish and chips which is unusual choice for me. Absolutely delicious. Freshly made beer batter, fish was very fresh, chips were divine. Came with peas and a very generous portion of Home made tartar sauce. Will return!

Small cafe located on a busy road so parking is a problem. Premises are rather run down but the tables were clean, and they were cleared promptly. The breakfast was freshly cooked, tasty, with very generous proportions - the best fried bread I have had in a long time. Large mug of tea and very thick bread and butter were served promptly.

Lovely restaurant, very relaxing and excellent food. We had the fish and chips with peas. The batter on the fish was lovely and crisp. Compliments to the chefs. Good range of drinks and selection of wine.

Great concept of the restaurant with an open kitchen so you can watch chefs working which i find quite entertaining . Although a rather large dining area, Bookings for dinner are recommended. Lunches most likely not. The Brasserie is in the actual hotel building ( we had a fantastic stay by the way) so if you are tired after a long day at Cotswolds, you dont have to go too far to fill up your belly ! So lets talk food, food was high quality, full of flavour, seasoning top notch. my other half&#039;s steak was heavenly . i ordered several small dishes and most of them were devine but one - there is a small plate with smoked trout which didnt quite make sense - this is more of the feedback to the chef - first of all you serve it in a small glass - but you serve it with a fork ( maybe a spoon in addition would be better) , also you serve it only with one tiny wafer cracker but there is a lot mousse - so more wafer things or even a nice piece of sourdough would be better - an in general i think serving it on the plate would be far more practicall - i reall struggled to eat it. Dont get me wrong it was nice but i dont think the chef actually tried to eat it himself from the glass. ANYWAY, enough about that one starter. the rest of the food was top notch. The atmosphere is lovely with the fire coming out from pizza oven. all very pretty. HOWEVER. even though the staff is really polite , the younger waitresses are verging on clueless. Not sure if those young girls were thee on work experience or only just learing but oh boy they need help . Two older ladies on the floor seem to be managing them closely but still not enough. As i said before, dont get me wrong, EVERYONE in the restaurant as well as the hotel are great , helpful and full of positivity , but the young girls in the restaurants need to be sent on training and i&#039;m sure with more experience they will be just fine. Would we come back - ABSOLUTELY YES :) Thank you

We spent two nights at Sudbury House with our grandsons and their parents. The Magnolia Brasserie was ideal for children who were below the minimum age for using Restaurant 56. The food was very good, staff were excellent and it was the ideal environment for younger children.

A great meal with the delight of an open kitchen. Food excellent and very fresh &amp; tasty. <br /><br />But what made it was the friendly staff, so attentive, interested in your needs and looking to &quot;do anything&quot; to make it special <br /><br />Can&#039;t recommend it enough.

Easy to book online.Superb attentative head chef,knew exactly what was going on in his restaurant.My partner and I both had the rump steak,cooked to perfection,fab thrice cooked chips. I proposed to my partner here without informing the restaurant but they gave us a glass of champagne each on the house. Would definitely book again.

A pleasant Sunday lunch though always find the wine menu a little disappointing - surprising that the only Sauvignon Blanc wine by the glass is an Indian vintage variety and is certainly lives up to its grassy description!! Would not order this wine again , so glad did not order a bottle! It would be lovely to see some or even one NewZealand wine on the menu! Would love to bring my own ! Lovely roast potatoes! Delicious desserts! Always friendly and polite service though sometimes there can be a wait if the restaurant is busy !!

Very good food with high quality ingredients and knowledgeable staff. Somewhat limited wine list. We had tried to get into Restaurant 56 (in the same establishment) for our wedding anniversary but Magnolia was a creditable consolation prize.

I often entertain friends to lunch here. If Julie is on reception we get the warmest welcome. It is always good value and excellent food in the brasserie. We love to sit and talk and we are never disturbed.<br />Often we are the only ones which makes the ambience a little less than perfect. But that is never a reason to stay away.

Lovely decor, professional staff, beautiful setting, food delicious and well presented, varied menu, nice atmosphere. Easy to book. Plenty of parking. We were greeted well and coats taken. We were made to feel welcome and the receptionist was chatty and friendly. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

We had a very nice Sunday evening dinner at Magnolia. The restaurant was very quiet to begin with, but filled up nicely as the meal progressed. The service was good, attentive and pleasantly timed. But, most importantly, the food tasted very good. The starters, especially the duck with truffle brioche, were very tasty and perfectly sized. We all had different main courses, but loved them all. Very fresh fish, great lamb, lovely steak and my favorite artichoke&amp;gorgonzola pizza!<br />The desserts were sweet and soft, just right!<br />We had a great time, felt welcome and taken care of.

The food was good but was let down by the poor service from our waitress. We ordered the wine when ordering our meal and nibbles but we had to wait over 15 mins for the wine to arrive after the nibbles and this was only after I had asked where our drinks were. The restaurant wasn&#039;t overly busy so this can&#039;t be the reason for such a long delay, just totally disorganised.

Pleasant décor, a little lacking in atmosphere. Food is cooked in one corner of the restaurant.<br /><br />We waited overly long for our main course as there was a mix up with the order. Because of this we had the cost of our drinks deducted. These things happen, wouldn&#039;t put me off returning.

Great breakfast choice, we go on a Sunday whenever we can, very basic but the breakfast makes up for it. Always has a few newspapers about, which my other half always heads for.

This was our first visit, we meet friends from Bristol every couple of months, we all loved the outdoor space and the open coolness of the restaurant. The staff were very good and so was the food. I&#039;d/we are hoping to go again. We&#039;d also like to try Restaurant 56.

Our expectations were high, but although the food was good, the restaurant lacked ambiance. <br />While we were having our main course, the chefs were already cleaning out the open kitchen and tables were being replaced for next mornings breakfast, so we did not feel very welcome.<br />Please do invest in some fish knives.<br /><br />reataurant 56 however looked amazing and had a wonderful menu, also a full vegetarian option which unfortunately was not mentioned on the website. Go out of my way to go to this cafe. Everything cooked fresh and they use only best food especially on their fry ups. Sausages best I've ever tasted. Need more cafes like this in Essex

The Magnolia Brasserie provides the diner with a less formal dining experience than Sudbury House&#039;s fine dining restaurant. With doors opening onto the patio and the garden beyond, the dining room offers elegance in a relaxed atmosphere, great for couples or large parties.<br /><br />I selected one of the pizzas baked in the wood oven and it was fabulous. A really crisp base that stayed crisp until the last mouthful. The topping had an authentic taste of Italy and the side salad I selected had just the right amount of dressing on it. My friend selected a pizza too and was equally impressed.<br /><br />The dessert menu offered a great selection. I opted for the Rhubarb Trifle which was delicious with unusual combinations. My friend had the chocolate mousse which although very rich he thoroughly enjoyed.<br /><br />The Brasserie offers a range of items on its menu whatever your budget. It is a great place to meet friends whether they live in Oxford, Swindon or further afield in Cheltenham. The service is first class and you are made to feel very welcome by all the staff.<br /><br />Watching the chefs cook in the open plan kitchen is a great experience too. Can highly recommend this restaurant for both lunch and dinner.

Lovely food and very friendly waiting staff. The place was a little quiet on a Saturday night. There were about 3 or 4 other groups but the place it so large it did lack a little atmosphere. The staff were always on hand for any extra drink orders or requests and it was nice to view to open kitchen. Will go again but best for large groups.

Our table was by the window and we could see the nice garden . However the staff often passed the side of our table and unfortunately the outside view was shut out our view across.

Attention to detail, fantastic food and great value for money. It is just a shame more people don&#039;t know how good it is. An empty restaurant doesn&#039;t have the same buzz about it as a full one. This is a shame because that is the only thing that is missing from this great place to eat.

i been to the trip advisor reviews, first time i been to the magon cafe i will come again very good food and excellent value for the money and very friendly staff.

This place sells great food at such great prices. If you're wanting a decent fry up for a decent price, you wont be disappointed going to the Magno Cafe.

Had breakfast here on several occasions and never been disappointed. Staff are friendly and efficient. Food is amazing (especially set 1 ) good value for money and have never been hungry after. Good tea and coffee too.
