Magic Wok Chinese Takeaway in Hambleton

Hate writing bad reviews but we chose this Chinese in Thirsk as it had the highest star ratings so would hope the management might read this and improve the quality of the food served. Sadly, it was the worst Chinese we had ever had? Nothing tasted fresh and it all looked grey? The curry had no curry taste only pepper? The mixed starters were overcooked and again did not taste freshly cooked. Really sad to write this as would have loved good food and a good review ?

I have had better ginger and spring onion. Hot and sour soup was very average. It was like the food lacked depth of flavour. Oh well. Good for parking

As the daughter of two chefs who used to run a generational Chinese takeaway for almost 20 years in County Durham, I can hand on heart say the food here is incredibly authentic. None of this boiled meat, greasy, unskilled, lacklustre cooking; the food at Magic Wok has impressed my cantonese family. The Singapore vermicelli noodles I had here were cooked perfectly with an array of prawns, chicken, char sui, and... spam meat! That last one sounds insignificant to many, but putting spam in Singapore noodles was a tradition with many chinese takeaways a few decades ago. It's slowly gone out of fashion as more takeaways chose to cut corners. It's lovely to see they're still doing these traditions and I can assure you that the chefs here know what theyre doing; the food here will not fail to impress. Quality cooking and this is reflected in the higher price. However, if you want dirty cheap grub with no heart and care for asian cuisine, go somewhere else - there are plenty of those subpar fast food joints across the UK. This place is for those who appreciate the skillful cooking of my culture. Bravo!

Ordered a house special chow mean last Friday was very disappointed only 2 prawns Ana very little meat alot of money for a plate of noodles also the 2 portions of spring rolls were supposed to have meat in were not good only half cooked & bland ! Not too keen on using again I'm afraid 😨

This used to be an absolute sure-fire winner for local Chinese takeaway. It’s now the most expensive in the town by a mile. And tonight I discovered that if you leave a tip, the staff who work on the counter don’t get any of it. Won’t be returning.

Just ordered a meal, food was plentiful, but order was not correct, instead of curry sauce given sweet n sour. To be honest ruined the meal. Couldn’t return to shop as we were on foot. Wasn’t cheap either !! 🙁

Sometimes when you're on the road for work in a small town you'll go for a takeaway and are prepared to be disappointed ... This was brilliant ... tasty as anything and quick to phone and collect. Thank you from a grateful traveller.

Food was good, and the 2 girls on reception were good too, however trying to see if food was gluten free was a nightmare! They had to keep going in the back to ask and no one knew! I took a chance as they said nothing was gluten free! but I was fine.

My favourite Chinese in thirsk food is fantastic reasonably priced staff are always friendly and the food is always fast and hot note that they take cash only and don't accept card but the is a cash point machine literally round the corner

This was my first time using Magic Wok and it was for a big family order. We had about 10 items off the menu and they were all delicious. The order was quick and they told me ahead of time that it was cash only (not a problem as there is a cash point just over the road). I would definately order from them again.

Last meal was not good. This time better but chop suey spring roll only contained char sui and beansprouts. 4 pieces (2 slices of bread) prawn toast for £5 is expensive. Won ton soup tasty.

Cantonese sweet and sour king prawns and boiled rice. Chinese chicken curry and chips. Just what you expect. Lovely.

A little on the expensive side but very good food and decent size portions.

Really annoyed. Ordered crispy wontons from the door (as unaccessible for wheelchair, which is fair enough, I was served with a smile) Took wonton to car but instead of golden crispy fried deliciousness... They were Dard orange, stale and not crispy. Burnt. Possibly yesterday's? So I called (as by this point wheelchair was packed inthe car) and was told they'd cook some more. Sent husband along with the stale wontons and waited in the car.... He appeared with refund because "that's how they cook them".... Sigh. Disappointed.... So that's our experience. Won't ever be coming again. But thanks for helping me at the door.

Very disappointing we are local people we have tried hung moey and gourmet kitchen which are spot on , so we thought we would try magic wok , went to pay with card but the young man who served us was quite aggresive telling us they dont take cards when we queried this told us in no uncertain terms if we did not like it dont come back which obviously wont be doing so. which unfortunately we wont be doing. dealing with the public which i do in my job is no way to carry on in business.
