I called in especially to taste scouse, the staff were lovely but the food is not great, I had scouse which I can only describe as bland meatless soup and my wife had a steak pie which consisted of crust and gravy no meat, very disappointed in maggy mays especially after every other place I ate in liverpool on my stay the food was great

Liked the look of this old fashioned cafe - how wrong could I be … smoked haddock rubbery, what tasted like tinned new potatoes & very watery carrots. Mentioned to waitress but she didn’t offer any recompense, just a half hearted ‘sorry’. Trouble is, you pay on ordering - I would have refused to pay full price

Been going to Maggie May's for many years. I had friends visiting so I took them shopping and thought Maggie May's would be great for lunch...was I wrong. Ordered our lunch,I got a cheese and onion quiche with chips and salad. It tasted of nothing and was rubbery and the sald was limp with no dressing on it..overall everything looked unappetising and tasteless. As a place now dwarfed by many restaurants and cafes on Bold Street I really think you need to step up your game.

I entered after wanting a nice sandwich or toastie after looking over Liverpool we found Maggie mays cafe. We approached the counter with a very unenthusiastic lady taking our order. After ordering for two drinks a chicken panini with fries and a ham and cheese toastie with fries. It took 20 minutes to turn up, and honestly it was the saddest meals we have set our eyes on, considering the way social media has improved the standards of food and standards of appearance, it clearly hasn’t affected the bland and stale approach to food here. The panini had a single slice of chicken in each half of the panini to cover the unbuttered bread. And a side of salad. The cheese and ham toastie was dry and lifeless and limp with again a small side salad. The fries that came with the meal, were still oozing fat from the fryer. My partner couldn’t eat her meal. We were asked if we would like condiments and when receiving the mayonnaise, the holder was near empty. The girl that handed it too us was very absent minded and detached to the job. The whole meal cost £28 and for the price was extremely underwhelming and for the actual cost not worth it. The atmosphere was none existent and very depressing. I love to give positive reviews for places but me and my partner left feeling very disheartened from the experience and still wanting food.

We often chose scouse when we eat out for lunch at many cafes and restaurants in Liverpool and decided to go to Maggie May’s again giving it another chance after being disappointed some years ago. We were very disappointed again as the dish of scouse I received had one very small piece of meat in it and my wife’s had 2. I sent mine back for more meat. The waitress apologised and brought another plate of it back and unbelievably this replacement had no meat in it. My wife didn’t want me to send it back again or ask for something else so we left but I mentioned it to a waitress and she just said during the course of the day the meat disintegrates into the vegetables. Absolute nonsense. There was no sign of meat at all. We won’t be going there again feeling totally dis satisfied and ripped off

An icon of Liverpool's Bold Street, Maggie May's is a lovely, friendly cafe with a wide variety of menu choices with vegetarian options. As it was my first visit to the cafe, I chose their Traditional Scouse, which is what Maggie May's is most famous for, with a pot of tea. Although the cafe was fairly busy, being a lunchtime during the school holidays, it was easy to get a table and I didn't have to wait too long for my food. The Scouse was excellent, and I was even provided with some HP Sauce to go with it. All in all, a very enjoyable lunch and great value for money. I will be back.

Ich war hier, um einmal "scouse" auszuprobieren. Schmeckte ein bisschen so wie erwartet, aber der Fleischanteil bewegte sich deutlich unter 5 %, was dann doch stark enttäuschend war. We popped in at lunchtime as the sign said they served scouse. We ordered the scouse and a beef chilli. The chilli tasted home made. It had a slight spiciness and was delicious. The scouse was like a thick soup, it tasted lovely. The place was clean, the prices fair and we left feeling full.

We ended up with double egg and chips but the chips- frozen, tasted of fat and nothing else. Vege burgers and vege lasagne were on the menu but neither were "homemade". Service was not great with counter staff not acknowledging me as I stood in front of them. Three meals- double egg and chips x 2 and an all day breakfast with chips plus three drinks = £19.50 so not so cheap either. I won't be going back.
