This is a “hidden gem” of a place ! This was our second visit during the last month, and the warmth and friendliness of the staff was so welcoming. The food is freshly cooked, so you may have to wait a little longer than most places ………… but it was well worth the wait. 👍👍👍 We tried the breakfast last time and the food was cooked to perfection 👍 This time we tried a roast beef, cheese and onion panini …………. Well, what can we say, it was delicious ! 😀 A fabulous place to have a relaxing lunch in lovely surroundings, you will not be disappointed - thank you both for making the experience memorable 👍😀

This is such a charming gem of a place! The cafe is in a converted cow barn and has retained so much of its old world character. I went in for a cup of tea but was so tempted by the smell of bacon to ask if they could do a gluten free bacon and tomato sandwich for me and the answer was yes! Their sausages, black pudding and bacon are delivered by a local butcher and are the real thing and the tomatos and mushrooms fresh. The sandwich was excellent and the staff friendly and the atmosophere so warm and friendly. Judging by the number of people popping in to pick up their lunches, they have a very loyal following. Their neighbour is an equally delightful antiques shop which is well worth a look around. Although they are both only five minutes drive from the ring round it feels as if you have gone back in time. Both for the charm of the places and for the warmth of their welcome.

Have been here a few times. The last time we went, we stood at the counter to confirm we could have a table. We said we only wanted coffee and a cake, each. The owner said “ just go and sit down, and someone will come and take your order”. But the tone and the attitude were awful. We sat at a table like two naughty kids. Reluctantly had a coffee and cake, and quickly left. The same happened to a friend, who had recommended this place. Nice little place ruined by the owner who appears to have some sort of attitude problem. No , we will not be going back. Can’t wait around for half an hour to get a sandwich, anyway. Not recommended.

Visited this morning for birthday breakfast with my brother and family. Food cooked to order and tasty. Drinks requested to come with food but we had all finished our breakfast and still no drinks... went to the counter to ask if we could have them and she (the owner) threw her hands up in the air and shouted that she only had 1 pair of hands... she also only had 1 other customer than my party of 4... she followed me back to the table and shouted again that she only had 1 pair of hands.... my family were horrified at her outburst and attitude.. I reluctantly never challenged her as I did not want to spoil my brothers birthday... we will never return! Plenty of other nice cafes in West Derby.... will never return.

This was our first visit, we both had a cream tea each, which consisted of a scone with jam and cream , plus a pot of Yorkshire tea. It was very nice, service was quick, friendly and helpful. It is a converted barn , very large interior, lots of tables and chairs. Disability friendly with a ramp at the entrance, lots of space for wheelchairs and walkers. There are many books to buy and a large variety of toys and games for children. We will return.

Whether it's a cuppa, a tasty food or an amazing piece of cake you're after, Maggie May's is a must! There really is nowhere else quite like it in West Derby and I just love the feel of the place. Maria is so welcoming and always finds time to stop and talk. As others have already said, it's a real hidden gem, but once you've found it you won't be able to stay away!

Maggie May's is spacious, cosy and welcoming with a good mixture of seating and can accommodate moderate groups. The walls are adorned with interesting snippets of info re St Vincents School - in whose grounds the cafe resides. Enjoyed the best beef and salad sandwich I've had in a while and cuppa tea was spot on. Was told all produce is sourced locally. Prices are not extortionate so really good value. There is a rack of clothes at the rear and loads of books to buy (or read). Very charity orientated - which is nice. The owner is friendly and nothing is too much trouble for her. There are varied events to raise money, awareness and clothing for all aspects of the community. Check it out on Facebook.

Came the other day with my mum and our friend as we love here Marie does such a great variety of food and she knows that as I'm vegan I ALWAYS have the 'pitta and hummus' but hate olives = mum gets MY olives and I get extra salad. Had Bakewell tart that day that was gluten and dairy free!:) Lots of choice of fruit tea and you can do a 'sing a long/karaoke' to her music alternating between actual songs and songs from musical theatre! (of which I've known them all!)

Called in yesterday and met some friends. Had the soup and a sandwich. The soup was leak & bacon which was beautiful. We’ve been here a good few times now and have never been disappointed. It’s always really good quality food and the seven item breakfast is also well recommended. Maria (the proprietor) always gets the best ingredients. Then there’s the cakes; don’t get me started! Lemon drizzle, rich chocolate, carrot, Victoria sponge, red velvet, Bakewell tart, scones with jam & cream and cup cakes. Last week there was a lovely ginger cake with clotted cream ice cream - fabulous. There is a lovely friendly atmosphere and the facilities are suitable for wheelchair accessibility. It’s also child and dog friendly. Maria and her helpers are always friendly and will try to accommodate if they can with the menu. There’s vegan/vegetarian options too. Something for everyone 😊.

This cafe is in the grounds of St Vincent's school, in an old converted barn. The food and drink is freshly prepared and good quality. The proprietor is welcoming and friendly and cooks to order. The customers tend to be locals, but everyone is welcomed with a chat and a chilled friendly atmosphere. Great cakes!

Was taken here by my mum and her friend and what an amazing place it is. The girls who run it are really friendly offering both 'Normal' meals and 'Veggie/Vegan' which is brilliant as being the latter it is so hard to find places to eat! It's set in what was/is an old barn situated on the grounds of Saint Vincent's school. It offers a range of food and when I wanted a panini but no olives, she said "that's ok I'll do a salad instead" and it duly came with a salad that over loaded the plate plus the hummas had a pesto in it which was a nice touch! I wasn't going to have a cake but when we saw the cakes - ALL homemade - we went for 'Cupcake' 'Lemon drizzle' and 'Chocolate sponge' (naturally taking some home!) the shelf of books is good also (donation in tin) as found a book I need to complete a set I've been hunting for so long! Their 'clothes swap' rail is also a good idea as I had a party to go to = found an outfit there and when I went back the other day took something as a 'payment' Thanks guys will be back again soon :)

Called in while my son was in The Royal hospital. Asked for the small breakfast but no mushrooms or tomatoes. The owner was very pleasant but after he served my coffee (I did ask for a latte but an ordinary coffee came) he carried on chatting with a bloke sat at a table. Then he went off to the kitchen. A few minutes later my breakfast came. It looked as though most of it had been deep fried. It came with mushrooms which I didn’t want, no baked beans. The egg made me heave, dirty brown white and a broken yolk undercooked centre floating in the white albumen. Bacon was a crisp and the sausage cut in half and deep fried. The toast came just buttered in the middle. Would never eat there again. I took pictures but can’t post them on here. Apart from the bloke sat at a table I was the only customer.

Wraps and bowls are good. Really like the halloumi hummus side and the salt and pepper sweet corn ribs.

Had a few beers here with friends and watched a football match that was competing with the karaoke. One of the punters saw himself as a bit of a singer . For karaoke to work you've got to be really bad, and be aware of that or really good. Sadly Alan was the worst type, not quite as good as he imagines himself to be. ...* Edit* ... Quick reply from Black Cat has helped jog my memory. Disregard the review above as I was mistaking the Black Cat for another bar in the City. I did have a few beers here late one night as, if I remember correctly, they were open later than the other bars. It was rammed. The service was good ,looks like they have a few good events in the week.

I really enjoyed the broccoli with roasted hazelnuts & pigs in blankets. My waitress from Brazil was very friendly and checked on me often. Nice decor.
