Ordered cod and chips. Chips were good but the fish was very poor. Clearly cooked from frozen. Overcooked. Batter burnt and what little fish there was was like rubber.

Went here after the crell had no gluten free chips, we were so pleased to see a wide range of gluten free options. Had such a short wait time and the staff were incredibly friendly. the chips were absolutely incredible and the fish was perfect. Additionally the lamb burger was delicious. this was in fact a great value for money and would highly recommend going here.

I went to this chippy as my son knew the lovely lady working in there. The chips here at Madog were delicious. Unfortunately the fish was frozen and burnt. I do not recommend. Totally unacceptable,lady tried to make excuses, eventually said she would give me back my £10 for both fish . The burger bought by a friend was not much better. Lunch totally spoilt, would never purchase from there again.

I think I would give 2 stars. I would say it was one of the worst fish from a fish & chips shop. The batter was hard , liked being in oil over and over. I just felt so disappointed.

This is the cheapest takeaway in Porthmadog! The food was good, the service was great and the price was even better! We ordered a chilli con carne and chips, chicken curry and chips and a sausage and chips and paid just £14! The chicken curry was really nice, the chilli knocks your socks off so don’t try it if you can’t handle spice and the sausage and chips according to my son was the best in town! We will definitely be coming back soon 👍

Lovely little takeaway in the middle of Porthmadog town. Had the gluten free chips a few weeks ago and they were just how I like them, not greasy or soggy and with fluffy middles. Had the chicken curry tonight which again was lovely, not too hot and full of chunky chicken - yummy ❤️

i ate from here 2 day worst chicken curry an chips i had i wouldnt feed madog i chucked half of it in bin a home made curry consists of onions garlic chillis an spices not a sweet curry sauce out of a packet home made chips are not frozen there peeled potatoes some of the worst food we have ate eat here at your peril ya been warned

Since every restaurant in Porthmadog is booked out thanks to the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme, I decided to stop at this small takeaway for food to take back to my hotel instead. I was super impressed with the simple yet delicious lamb burger and had my first ever curry sauce on chips, a Welsh delicacy apparently! Everyone else who ordered seemed to be locals and the young boy who served me was very polite. Would recommend this place for anyone wanting a quick yet tasty dinner.

We spend 50% of our time in porthmadog. One of our favourite teas is chicken curry, rice and chips from here. Awesome meal and under £10 for the pair of us.

The chips smelt a lot better than they tasted, they were cooked fresh to order but tasted dry & hard as if frozen chips had been flash fried. The curry sauce was home made but was Indian in style and quite sweet and thin so not good for dunking/coating. My husband had the chicken curry & chips and said although it had a kick it wasn't particularly good and a lot went in the bin. Over all a disappointing experience esp given the other "excellent" reviews.

I have to say that this was one of the best chippies in the country but ........... I went there last week and ordered fish and chips for me and the wife, she had never been before but I had told her what a treat she was in for. When the lady said it's frozen fish I was not sure but said ok. Sadly that was a mistake, the chips were lovely as normal but frozen fish , sorry but I was disappointed.

Called in on a recent visit to Wales and was surprised at the excellent quality of the food. The chips were the best I have ever tasted, well cooked, firm and not greasy. Would definately go back again.

Although they sell a lot of burgers which my daughters love, my favourite meal is their homemade curry and homemade chilli. It's always a difficult decision. I chose the curry on Monday night and it was really lovely; wonderful flavour and perfectly spiced.

The ratings lied to me, i work all over the country and whilst working here decided to eat from this because the ratings were good. Now i live by the coast myself in devon so i know what "decent fish and chips" are.....curry sauce was awful and microwaved in front of us and tasted very very sweet. Chips were average at best, sat in a big open metal container uncoved in an open fronted shop, and a sausage bap....well put it this way, i can rustle up better in the back of my work van, sausages were sat in a cabinet on the front counter with a light in it....god knows how long they had been sat there before they were tossed in the frier.....Only reason it was two stars is because the woman behind the counter was friendly...

Me and my partner stayed at greenacres end of September for a long weekend away and decided one night we fancied fish and chips.. so when driving into town we stumbled up on madog takeaway and decided to give it a try.. we both ordered fish and chips with a pot of the homemade curry sauce and my partner had a sausage as well.. what a treat!!!! The chips were fresh and tasty, the fish was beautiful and the curry sauce was just delicious !! The lady working was very friendly and chatty and we can not wait to have another weekend in Porthmadog we will definitely return here when we do!

Si vas a Porthmadog sólo tienes que tener una hamburguesa doble con cebollas desde aquí. Viven lejos ahora pero vamos aquí durante casi 20 años. Las hamburguesas están fenomenal, así es la salsa de curry. Cualquiera de Porthmadog preguntar le dirá lo mismo. La perfección.

Llamé aquí para recoger un jumbo y patatas fritas de camino a casa después de un largo día de trabajo. Servicio agradable, mientras estaba confundido, y cuando finalmente conseguí mi comida para llevar que era muy decepcionado con el gusto. Creo que cocinar en aceite de colza, y que no hacen una buena salchicha jumbo.

Good little takeaway we visited on impulse. All the burgers are hand made including Welsh Lamb and Mint(recommended), Pork & Apple, Beef and chilli as well as your standard burgers. Other things are available and very sensibly priced

We stopped here on our way on holiday to Anglesey .Again food was lovely we had jumbo sausages and chips ,service was great very friendly staff and the lady serving us remembered us from our last visit a few months ago so we had a nice chat again . perfectly cooked food we love this take away .

we were in Porthmadog for a day out and called in at this takeaway again we were last here 7 months ago and enjoyed our sausage and chips last time and this time we had the same great service, the same lady served us we had a lovely chat with her about our holiday last year ,again we ordered jumbo sausage and chips and they were as delicious as our last visit we were so pleased this take away was open and we sat in a local park and ate our very nice hot meals this takeaway well worth a visit

This is a very friendly chip shop, the chips are always gorgeous and the lamb burgers are lovely would definitely recommend them!

After a day out in Caernarfon we wanted something quick before heading back and passed this place, although it wasn't the food we first wanted it all tasted ok.

Visited Monday evening 01/02/2016 for a takeaway and served with a large succulent chicken portion and a good size portion of crisp and flowery chips. Served by friendly and efficient staff who offered valuable advice on what was suitable for a Coeliac (gluten and wheat free diet). A decent chippy ! Always nice when you're near the sea.

Doesn't look as professional as the chippy across the road, but looks can be deceiving. These really were best chips I have tasted in my life, and I eat a lot of chips!! Only negative point would be that the lady in the shop sits in the back room round the corner reading her book when it's quiet. We walked in a left the shop the first time as there was no-one there. The second time I had to stand there for a few minutes shouting 'hello?' until I got her attention. I don't mind her reading when it's quiet, but at least sit where you can see your customers coming in. Seriously, we were both talking about these chips for the rest of the night they were so good.

We stopped here on our way to our holiday in black rock sands and wow what a great place the lady who served us was very friendly and chatted with us and the sausage and chips we had were delicious the nicest we have ever had the price was great too would recommend this takeaway even people coming in behind us commented on the prices too

This is the best place in Porthmadog for burgers and chips. The cheeseburgers are served on proper, fresh baps. The burger and onions griddles as you wait. No soggy fat filled chips here. They are cooked to order by friendly staff. The home made chicken curry is fantastic. Fantastic value for money. From the outside appears a but dated but faultlessly clean .

Very friendly service, but the fish was straight out of the freezer, overcooked and dry, with tough batter. Maybe other dishes are better, but we did not return for fish and chips. Lilly's over the road was fresh and beautifully cooked.

Staying at Greenacres, stopped here for fish and chips. Everything came out of the freezer. Nothing wrong with what we ordered or ate but there's better to be had. Schooners on the road to greenacres and cardigan bay view is much better. Lilly's across the road looked like fresh rather than frozen fish.

Me, my boyfriend and my stepdad visited this place on Saturday and based our visit on the reviews on here. I am so glad I visited! The food is gorgeous! My stepdad loved the minted lamb burger and would recommend it to anyone who loaves lamb! The chips are amazing and are not greasy like many chippies. We are definitely revisiting when we are back at our van :) 10/10 for food, serving size and service!

Everytime i go back home to Porthmadog I go here for my cheeseburger with fresh fried onions, better than McDonalds, I used to work there when it used to be a Wimpy......freshly made food cooked to order, so a little waiting time is required, u wont be disappointed.

This is a great little takeaway and I would especially recommend the home made curry it was spectacular, very polite and efficient staff and very good prices ! I would go here again next time I visit Pothmadog.

I've been going to the Madog Takeaway since the 80's, and their double-decker cheeseburgers are still as delicious today as they were back then. Although there are a lot of fast food places in Port, this is the best by a mile. Highly recommended to anyone visiting the area, and a million times better than some of the more expensive alternatives/restaurants in the town.
