We were in London for a few days and had booked Afternoon Tea at Madison’s. The restaurant was almost empty and they seemed a bit unprepared. The tea was made with teabags from a box and the scones (made with raisins that we don’t like!) and the cakes were very dry - barely edible. The sandwiches were the only thing we ate. We were looking forward to a traditional English Afternoon Tea and we were very disappointed.

I once satyed in this hotel for one night November 2023 and found the experience quite pleasant. Now, however, it has shifted for the worse. The overall stay was quite underwhelming, with old decor and overall poorly-kept condition. The blinds were dirty, the wind was rushing through the closed windows. The food's whatever. The only thing that saves this joint for me is the staff, which were super helpful. Damn shame they got rid of the old bartender , one with an accent. He was quite a conversation partner, sharing my obsession with alcohol haha. Hope he's doin' ok.

Like a left over 70s motel - sorely in need of refurbishment, greeting by cringe worthy music more expected to accompany an adult movie. Rude, unpleasant staff - concierge (elderly chap) was particularly ghastly, wasting time and going out of his way to be obnoxious, overbearing with no people skills - would have been better suited to being a traffic warden. Will not be returning - Avoid - far better options available for less.

We used a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea at this hotel near Berkeley Square in Mayfair. We were uncertain what to expect, but we were greeted politely and shown to a table for two. We were offered tea, coffee or both, and more food than we could eat in one sitting. The food was typical of London hotel afternoon teas - sandwiches, scones, cakes. We found the surroundings to be pleasant and appreciated that there were other people enjoying the same experience. Nothing happened that would put us off repeating having afternoon tea here again, when we are back in London in a couple of months time.

So we paid around £90 for a champagne afternoon tea. We arrived and instead of seating us, they immediately began telling my fiancé off, for not printing the voucher and they had to print it for their records. One of the waiters then seats us after 10 minutes in the empty restaurant. The waiter then tries to recite the teas from memory because he couldn't be bothered to get us the menu even though I asked him twice now. He eventually gives us the menu and takes our tea order. Straight after he leaves the manager comes up to our table, and without saying "excuse/pardon me" he butt's into our conversation and demands we send them the voucher for their digital records and hands my fiancé a piece of scrap paper with their email written in it and proceeds to cross his arms and stand over us. I asked him if there was an issue with the payment and he says no the payment was fine, so I asked could he not wait until after our meal to sort this out and he refused to leave. Once complete we got luke warm tea, with overly sweet cakes, sandwiches were bland and the champagne was prosecco because they didn't have any more champagne, but didn't refund us the extra I had paid for the champagne. At the end of the meal we got no goodbye or thanks from the staff. The service was disgusting and the food was bland and with warm tea. I will not go back. Honestly a smoked salmon sandwich and English breakfast tea from Pret would have been better with better service.

This was the worst experience of High Tea. On arrival, no one offered to take our coats. We were seated on a round table of 8, we were only 4. Only tea or coffee was offered. Once seated and after the first pot of tea and coffee, no waiter came up to us for the next 2 hours. Some cakes were shapeless and appeared like they were from previous guest left overs, added to our tray. Never before have we experienced such low standards. An absolute waste of our time and money. Central London, Mayfair located Hotel, apart from the location they have Zero Customer Service Levels.

We had the Groupon three course meal, fishcakes to start, salmon with broad beans and mash followed by pecan pie and chocolate brownie and ice cream, all delicious, well presented and hot. Wine was substituted for fruit juice. Good quiet dining experience, clean, toilets downstairs - again clean and well serviced. Our waiter was pleasant, however substituting our mash for creamed spinach and boiled potatoes, incurred a charge, despite him checking with the chef that this was possible. Perhaps a note pad and pen would've been helpful to translate our order with the kitchen. Nonetheless, we had a great dining experience and the food was first class.

Madison's at the Washington Mayfair Hotel is a nicely quiet spot to enjoy lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. We tried the set-menu which is served at lunchtime and in the early evening. There is a choice of three starters, three main courses and three desserts. From the starters list we ordered the Pea & mint soup with cheese tortellini and the Home-made salmon fish cake. The soup was well flavoured and delicious, while the fish cake was hearty and fresh and delicately served with salad leaves and the garlic mayonnaise. Passing on the Roast chicken breast with mushroom, leek and tarragon jus, for our main courses we enjoyed the Fillet of salmon with mashed potato, broad beans and crispy bacon, and the Thai vegetable curry. This had quite an intense flavour to the sauce which also included potato and mange-tout - a really tasty dish accompanied by flavoured rice and nicely crisp vegetable spring rolls. With the main course we also ordered a portion of really delicious Sweet potato chips. Desserts of Mixed berry Eton mess and Pecan pie with fresh cream concluded a very acceptable lunch. At £20 for two courses or £25 for three, it is also very good value.

Clean and spacious inside with plenty of seating. For the price, which I might add was very reasonable, I enjoyed a wonderfully flavoursome starter of home smoked chicken and pear salad. Followed by a mouth watering main of Teriyaki salmon on stir fried vegetables. The food tasted fantastic. The waitress Lianne was very attentive and I was never left waiting. Wished we’d checked tripadvisor first because we returned to Madisons based on happy memories from a few years ago. Sadly no happy memories from this visit. This restaurant used to have such a high standard of professional service so what on earth has gone wrong? Set lunch menu price ok but the menu options are more suited to a British pub / cafe establishment, ham, egg & chips; shepherds pie medley! There was no meet and greet at reception, in fact there was no one at reception so any first timers would not have known which direction the restaurant area was located. Plenty of restaurant staff but sadly the ambience was none existent. The bill was wrong/up by over £20 and shouldn’t have been as we had a straight forward set lunch plus coffee, therefore we had to request a correct bill and because of the attitude from making the booking to paying we refused to pay the discretionary service charge. We tried to make the best of it but left feeling deeply disappointed.

Me and my boyfriend were bought a Virgin Experience to have afternoon tea at the Washington Hotel as a present. We both love afternoon tea so were excited to have a lovely day out.On arrival the Hotel looked so grand, as you enter and walk into the area where they serve afternoon tea and dinner first impressions were that it was very very dated, we weren't greeted on arrival and started to just wonder in as had no direction.FOOD;The afternoon tea was by far the worst iv'e ever tasted, my 13 year old brother could have done a better job. The sandwiches were presented on a smeary plate and only consisted of 1 filling such as "ham & butter, Egg & butter, and just butter". The bread was stale and lacking of any flavour. After only 1 of us eating 1 sandwich we asked for it to be taken away. The waiter didn't bother asking if anything was wrong. We then were presented with the scones and cakes, this was the WORST part. There was mould on a few of the cakes, and some cakes had been half unwrapped as if they had been taken off of someone else's stand who didn't fancy them. The scones were cold, and the jam was artificial. The whole thing was disgusting and we left after eating 1 scone and 1 sandwich.I then wrote a complaint to the Manager who did do a fantastic job of communicating with me and rectifying the problem by inviting us to come in for dinner. He did mention that the chef wasn't in on the day we had afternoon tea, which is a little worrying as to who exactly made up our food...2ND CHANCE;Ill keep it brief, we went with an open mind and willing to give the Washington a second chance. On arrival again we weren't greeted, and instead were accused of not showing up 3 days ago when the manager thought we had booked for. He then went off checked his emails and realised that we were there on the right day and time and apologized. We were then given the set menu to order from which was sparse with choice and had nothing I liked on it.Our whole meal was atrocious, bland, the steak was tough, the mash had raw garlic in, and again the fish was nothing special. The sticky toffee looked and tasted like it had been blended. The manager didn't once come and check how our meal was, or even at the end when we left which is mad!!!AVOID THIS HOTEL RESTAURANT - IM SHOCKED AS TO HOW IT HASNT BEEN SHUT DOWN YET!

Finally, on a lovely Friday, we dropped in for a light lunch, and some wine.It was a bit late into Lunch, and their Afternoon Tea was going on in a near-by room, but we were seated, and presented with the menu and limited wine list. The room is lovely, both elegant and understated, with nice lighting, and well-spaced tables. We began with a glass of Claude Renoux Brut Champagne and an Australian Chardonnay (name escapes me at the moment). We added two glasses of the Carelli Malbec, as well. The B-T-G wine list is short, but the prices very reasonable. We had the Lemongrass & Ginger Prawns, and the Mushroom Ravioli w/ “truffle cream.” Both were good, though the Prawns were overcooked a bit.Service was very good, and our late lunch worth the stop.

Bought a Groupon for two mains, two starters and two wine glasses. FOODThe set menu is very small, you can only choose from a handful of starters and there are only 4 main meals to choose from (Salmon, Shepherds Pie, Goats Tart and one more). I went for the mushroom with bread and parmesan which was excellent and nicely served. The Shepherds Pie was also good but nothing too special. The Salmon looked very average. The two course meal is usually priced at £20 but we paid £25 for two people. We exchange the wine for Cokes which was more suitable. STAFF/SERVICEVery friendly staff, professional, smiling, knowledgeable. Food took some time to arrive but it was ok. Coat service was impeccable, toilets were very clean. ATMOSPHERE/LOCATIONLocated in the Washington Mayfair Hotel, the restaurant has a nice luxurious vibe, many people come for Business lunch as its in Mayfair. This hotel advertises on their website that afternoon tea is "one of the UK’s most traditional luxuries" and describes theirs as "an unmissable treat" - a complete lie and an insult to the wonderful institution that is afternoon tea.The sandwiches are lovely, crusts removed as they should be and filled with good fillings. Salmon and cream cheese bagels are also fresh and nice,The scones are disgraceful, reheated in a microwave with a grilling mechanism on top to give off an "oven warmed" effect but the scones taste like they are at least a day old and rubbery which is a typical microwave effect of heating breads and pastries. There is no cream served - NO CREAM!! Jam and cream with scones is quintessentially English and yet they are served with butter and jam. (See pic)The pastries are a mixed bag - macaroons are delicious, so are the chocolate mousse cake bites. The lemon tea cake is moist and delightful but the strawberry tart is a pre-bought tart case which tastes awful, filled with something I can't even describe well - maybe a watery consistency white tasteless sauce and a piece of strawberry on top. A pot of tea involved a tea bag - it's supposed to be a fancy hotel, why are they serving teabags? It should be loose leaf tea. The champagne was just awful, bitter and certainly did not pair well with the sweets. If they are going to offer a champagne afternoon tea they should be ensuring their brand choice pairs well with their advertised food.Service was really bad, I mean despite there being only 2 other small tables of people the entire time I was there, with 3 service staff, it seemed they kept disappearing and you had to go and find someone. My tea cup was terribly stained when I arrived at the table, which should have been picked up obviously when setting the tables, showing me their staff just don't care. I think the food and beverage is managed terribly in this hotel and my experience, coupled with the staff disinterested in their job speaks volumes.

I took some friends out for a birthday breakfast, which I pre-booked well in advance. Upon arrival I was told that there was no booking. We asked for champagne, but were told that as we were not guests, we couldn't have any. This wasn't explained when we were sent a copy of the menu previously. There was no air conditioning either. Despite this the food was good, especially the poached eggs and the salmon and scrambled eggs.

We were going across town to the New London Theatre and there are no good eating places over there, except busy crowded chains, so we had supper at 5.30 at Madison's. The service was exceptional, the menu innovative and interesting and beautifully cooked with lovely wine to wash it down. It meant we avoided the rush of chain restaurants, and we caught a can outside and arrived at the theatre in good time, stress free, happy and well fed. What more could want?

Afternoon tea at the Madisons could need some improving. The sandwiches were quite simple and was not very tasty. The scones were small and overdone/dark/dry and the very small desserts not a winning end. The service was poor, had to go up twice ourself for more tea and asking for butter instead of the clotted cream. We had asked for the champagne to be served after the tea and they forgot that entirely so had to ask for it at the bar ones again. We sat in the bar area for some time (ca 5h) and not ones did anyone asking us if we wanted anything else to drink when they came over to remove the old glasses ,very poor !

We visited this restaurant on a Groupon, and really cannot recommend it to anyone. As per previous reviews, the staff were friendly...to a point. The food was simply mediocre. Starters consisted of a broccoli soup that tasted more like spinach, although the plus was that it was quite creamy. The alternative was a version of fried rice noodles which were so fried, they tasted like crisps served on a bed lettuce. Strange! The main course of Thai chicken curry was no different to anything you could pick up in the ready meal section of a supermarket. An alternative was fish which had no texture that I recognised. Choice of dessert was limited, so we settled for treacle tart. Unfortunately, this was excessively sweet, with a marked absence of 'tart' although served with a generous jar of single cream. We left the premises without the former 'attentiveness' of the staff...promising never to return.

Based on Groupon's food presentation photo we had fairly high expectations, however it was probably the worst meal we had ever eaten. Even though we had a Groupon offer at a reasonable £29 for 2 people, we would not go back even if the food was complimentary. The 'set menu' is extremely basic and unusual. The only reasonable sounding starter was a fishcake, which was similar to what would be purchased in a supermarket and deep fried. My husband's strange curry chicken, was small and had very cheap fatty cuts of meat, no where near the standard of even an Indian takeaway! I had a 'pan fried' cod substitute which actually tasted and appeared steamed drenched in very salty soya sauce, I love salty food, but even this was too salty for me. Finally dessert was a basic, dry (maybe one day old) brownie that I would not even expect to buy in a cheap bakery chain. My husband was not too happy taking the day off work for this and we both felt queasy and bloated for the day.

Good things: lovely staff, attentive; well cooked food; warm rolls upon arrival at table. Homemade treacle tart for dessert. Good price as Groupon deal.Poor things: small set menu with weird dishes - salmon with dill sauce, served with fruity Cous cous (what's wrong with mash? Sultanas and cream dill sauce does not go!), Cajun chicken served with cucumber raita and roast potatoes?? ; they did not make a note of my earlier booking request that I am ceoliac and therefore struggled to know what to feed me. It makes me feel like a leper when this happens! My main ended up being a dish of white food - chicken breast, raita and mash ( however in its defence, the mash was very creamy and buttery and the chicken was beautifully cooked). My friend had a hot beetroot and brie homemade tart, which was very nice, but had sadly been placed on top of the salad, making it warm and sweaty. Shop bought strawberry dessert. Ran out of various fruits, so could not have certain cocktails. No atmosphere. The ambiance and chefs imagination let down this restaurant. The waiting staff were doing an excellent job with what they had.

Situated very close to Green Park tube station, this restaurant is in Washington hotel. We were cordially greeted and shown to our table. Seating was comfortable leather low chairs and the whole atmosphere relaxed and soft background music added to the ambiance. Food was average. My chicken and mango cake was too sweet, salmon for main course (perfectly cooked) was served with couscous (with sultanas) which was again on the sweeter side . A small selection of vegetables on plate would have perhaps completed the dish. Dessert was Victoria cake (served with fresh cream) and this was lovely except that it reminded me of traditional Christmas cake. We were not rushed. Staff was very pleasant and attentive. Can go there again.

Food was average, portions were descent but the whole place completely lacked any atmosphere. We were served some bread and butter before ordering soups. Soup was OK, nothing to write home about. As a main dish I had cannelloni which I found quite chewy and my friend also were not happy with her chicken which was rubbery. I have to say that only dish we enjoyed were desserts. All dishes were served straight after one another The whole process was very quick which created an impression that they can't wait for us to leave. I am not sure why they did it since there were hardly 4 tables occupied in the restaurant. I will not be coming back again.

A gloomy atmosphere on arrival sounded the alarm bells. We were on a set menu with our group, the starter was well presented and tasted OK. However the main course option of fish & chips with Mushy Peas or stir fried chicken was poor. Not a menu you would expect in Mayfair! It tasted as poor as it sounded . The sweet was ok. The staff had varying levels of English and did try to please which was OK.The decor was poor with screens left on corners and unlit corners with empty tables giving a gloomy atmosphere. Went down for a table to be first showing low level tables in the bar area, which are no good to have a meal from. We then got showed to a large round table for 6 which was fine or so i thought to find it had been set for breakfast with jam pots and coffee cups on the table. We then ordered food very average no salt and pepper on the table but plenty of jam. Not what you would expect at such a hotel so i would suggest only use this restaurant for the buffet Breakfast which is okay dont eat in at night as plenty of good restaurants around the area

The hotel is in a very nice location. We arrived early but that wasn't a problem at all. The staff were very attentive from the outset, Santanu especially. We only waited a couple of minutes for the champagne, then tea/coffee and all of the usual delicacies that follow. The finger sandwiches consisted of egg and cress, cucumber and fresh salmon. Whilst I'm not a fan of fresh salmon, the waitress did ask us beforehand were we happy with the selection offered and we said yes. With hindsight, I should have asked for an alternative to the salmon but the staff are not to blame for that at all. The cakes were delicious, warm scones with jam and clotted cream, lemon drizzle sponge, cheesecake, macaroons and some sort of chocolate mousse/cake. All in all, a very nice experience, very pleasant ambience, lovely, polite staff and I have no problem recommending this hotel for afternoon tea.

On walking into a very gloomy room we had to wait for the one waiter who was dealing with the 6 people in the bar and restaurant to be shown to a seat. The bar was dimly lit and rather uninviting. We had a Groupon deal and our Champagne cocktail was good but the wait for it was disappointing - the waiter was working hard but the atmosphere was dull. Our starters of prawns was enjoyable. The wait for our main course seemed interminable but when the nasa goreng came it was enjoyable and my partner's guinea fowl was good. Unfortunately again a long wait for chocolate torte which very dry and ordinary and was not really worth eating. By this time the restaurant manager had taken an interest in the room and we asked him for the bill as we really just wanted to leave. Altogether it was rather a grim experience.

I went to Madisons at the Washington Mayfair Hotel with a KGB deal - £45 for a three course meal for two with a champagne cocktail – allegedly worth up to £103.60. Whilst I wouldn’t pay over £100 for the meal we had, I’d definitely recommend it based on the reduced price. The ambiance is quite laid back and relaxing and, being a restaurant in a hotel, not too busy as it was midweek. The staff are polite and attentive without being intrusive. A good selection in the menu for this offer, but beware that certain dishes – the prawn starter, guinea fowl main, extra sides amongst other – add on a surcharge. Likewise extra drinks and coffees will increase your bill. Having said that, if you stick to the selection they have (sans **), you will find the food beautifully cooked and they are decent sized portions. With the mains we ordered – the fish and chips and the teriyaki salmon with stir-fried veg – we found that it was unnecessary to order extra sides. A pleasant evening all in all.

We booked for Afternoon Tea (Mayfair Tea at £16).The food was good although the bread in the sandwiches was rather dry. The cake range was limited but the scones were tasty. The eating experience was only average because we were seated in the bar area where had business meetings all around us and where there was a frequent flow of people to and from the bar. The main problem was the presence of fruit flies which were constantly attracted to the food. They almost certainly came from the bar area and were a constant source of irritation. Efforts were made to point the probm out to several staff and although helpful, they couldn't understand the subject we were talking about. However, the staff were attentive at all times and most pleasant and helpful. Thus altough we couldn't recommend the eating experience ourselves it was pleasant to be in an environment where staff were clearly wanting to please their customers. It would be quite easy for management to deal with the irritations we had.

Arrived promptly but told restaurant was too busy and we'd have to wait. Only 3 tables were actually occupied. Service was slow but polite although most staff seemed generally disinterested.Food, when it arrived was tough, dry and needed a steak knife (it was not steak) and there was little else on the plate with the hard as nails chicken. So, we were forced to pay nearly £5 for a side of mash / veg. The seasonal veg turned out to be a whole, rather large, boiled potato and a few stumpy carrots. No butter, no herbs, no dressing, no effort.90 minutes after we arrived, the waitress asked if everything was ok. We politely told her it wasn't and that the meal was overdone. We expected a manager to turn up with an apology or offer of a free drink but no. Nothing. No body gave a hoot whether we were happy or not despite feeling the need to ask.We eventually left after forcing ourselves to eat about half of the food and only then because we were ravenous.Meal value was claimed to be nearly £60. We'd have been better off having 3 meals out at a high street chain frankly. The exterior promises so much but the restaurant delivers poor quality food very slowly served...and overcooked...with bad music in the background.
