Maddys Chippy in North Devon

We had the displeasure of fish n chips today worst fish I have had no taste to the cod and the batter was soggy and greasy if you check the bin next to the harbour car park it’s in their uneaten £14 what a joke

Stopped here for tea one night during our stay in woolacombe. Chippy local to us had extremely bad reviews so thought we’d give this ago. Friendly staff, food fresh and super quick service. Lovely crispy cod, chips could have been cooked more. Prices to be expected for fish and chips by the sea, would recommend this place.

Ordered through Just Eat….Food was half an hour late,so I decided to find out where it was. I explained it hadn’t been delivered and I was spoken to by some really rude aggressive lady, saying that they had tried to deliver it.I explained to her that it must have been to the wrong address as there are five of us here all hungry listening for the door.She tried to say I was lying and that she believed the driver had tried to deliver the food and he had rung the bell etc etc.However there is no bell at the property so who’s lying.I heard someone else bitching in the background again very rude and unprofessional and I was put on to a obnoxious delivery driver who had no clue where he had actually tried to deliver to.He tried to tell me that I was living in a different building clearly he went to the wrong building but wouldn’t admit as everything he said was not true.I was told my food would be then delivered again by the rude woman and again I waited 20/30 mins before again phoning up.I got no response from the phone so decided to drive down and get it to find that they had closed.It was clear that they had no intention of re delivering at all,however they have tried to scam me through just eat by saying it was delivered.It was my autistic daughters 18th birthday meal and it was ruined by lazy and rude people who can do there jobs properly,This company clearly has no idea of customer service and I would recommend avoiding them.My daughter was really upset by this and I had to drive to the nearest McDonald’s over half an hour away to get her something else she likes. Looking at there other reviews it is clear that there attitude and food is not the greatest anyway so maybe I have had a lucky escape but if there food is anything like there attitudes and customer service then it’s going to be poor.I can only say to anyone ordering through just eat to avoid this restaurant at all cost because you either get poor food,no food or a bad attitude.This is not the way to run a small businesss and I hope that others read this review and avoid you at all costs

Although the fish was nice (it was cooked while I waited ) the chips were poor. Tasteless and anaemic. Staff seemed distracted. I wouldn’t go back there.

The waitress struggled to understand what we ordered and the food was anaemic and could have done with more cooking. Also chips had so many bad bits one of our party left most of them

This has always been my go to takeaway but now the prices are ridiculous 5 pounds for chips is a shocker to say the least can't even afford a fish now I know its holiday season and they always put the prices up for holiday makers but come on this is terrible small chips not far of 5 pounds either. Can't fault the staff and food not bad at all. But the pricing is shocking after all its potatoes not chips covered in 9ct gold flakes

Can't comment on the fish, but without a doubt amongst the worst chips we've ever had. Soggy, pale undercooked and luke warm. Truly awful. The very loud person behind the counter talking to his mate instead of working didn't help. Maddy get a grip.

This is the third and last time I have been to maddy's chippy . The first time I went there the haddock and chips was really good and I gave them a 10/10 review . The second time the haddock and chips was vile , the fish was not cooked properly and the chips were stone cold leftovers and tiny bits , disgusting . I have a simple rule when served a lousy meal , I NEVER SEND IT BACK FOR REPLACEMENT, because what you will get is spit , food dropped on the floor or in the bin and served up as a replacement. I walked out in disgust vowing NEVER TO GO BACK. I could not be bothered to write a review. However , when I went to Ilfracombe today , 05/02/24 , it was a cold , damp , horrible day and everywhere seemed to be closed except Maddy's . The sit down restaurant was closed so that just left a takeaway . I thought I would give them one more chance and boy do I regret it . The chips were undercooked and were in one soggy disgusting lump , the fish and batter were in another soggy lump , ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE . Put me off fish and chips for life . At least the seagulls ate it , rather them than me .

Popped in a we always used to come but we're only passing through on this occasion and didn't want to miss the opportunity. The cod and chips were great. The haddock and chips were awful - tasteless and no texture, never seen a piece of haddock look like that. I'm not convinced it really was haddock. We were on a time crunch so ate what I could and had some of the cod. Told the staff when I paid - just incase anybody else had said anything, the response was "well I wouldn't know I don't eat Haddock". Brilliant. My advice would be send it straight back if it's not right, unfortunately we didn't have enough time for them to cook another piece.

We’ve just had a wonderful meal here. We had the sausage and chips and the haddock and chips. Everything was cooked perfectly. The batter was light and crisp, the fish was beautiful. Huge portions So glad we popped in here.

I'm a returning customer and have never been let down. Good portion size, nice batter on the fish and good value. To be honest I've never used another chippy in Ilfracombe. Quick service and staff friendly and helpful. A short walk away is the quayside and a perfect place to eat.

The staff where nice and friendly with there being a small wait on the food but well worth the wait with the food tasting amazing.

Had pie and chips. Chips were old and the pies were microwaved and cold ☹️ Didn’t eat it. Total waste of money.

Came in last Friday just before closing and didn’t think we would get served but we did! Quite a large order for that time of evening too, but we had a good bit of banter with staff while we waited and went home with great food. Happy tummy’s and will return for more laughs with the girls.

Excellent value for money.We had the meal deal which was fishand chips plus a pudding for £12.50 per head. Really good fish and chips and generous portions. Service was a little bit slow but was not a problem for us. Would thoroughly recomend, but be patient

Went to maddies on Sunday for a take away with my family.. Was greeted by a extremely rude young lady I asked did they did kids meals and she replied with yeah over there and started laughing at me then proceeded to turn her back on me and speak to the lad who was frying who was polite to me whilst she stood with her back laughing at me she never once used any manners and was very disrespectful: I suggest she retrained in her customer service skills unfortunately I will not be returning nor recommending maddies chip shop to anyone

On a busy Friday in August Maddy’s delivered to us a large order (50 people) and were all in all very helpful and accommodating. The food was great also and no food was missing which is impressive for such a large order. They also gave us salt and vinegar bottles which was handy. The only thing was missing was the cutlery that we requested. There was a hiccup in the fact they had made the same order the night before, this was just due to the person taking the order writing the wrong date down, and unfortunately when we phoned them later to make sure they were ok they were slightly rude but still made the same order the next day for us.

Sunday, we'd been to Woolacombe Beach. Everywhere closes at 8. We rang Maddys at 8 expecting to be told they'd closed. They were closed but rang us back saying they had some fresh food left so we put our order in and although the kids didn't get their chicken nuggets they still had a meal. We cannot thank the staff enough for being so thoughtful and helpful. 10/10. Would highly recommend. Oh! And yes, the food was delicious.

Went in to get some dinner after work this evening, the girl that was serving had a face like thunder while serving her customers. Working with the public myself, your meant to greet your customer's with a smile, not look like you wanna smack them. She put hlf a tone of cheese on my chips too, way to much. Deffo needs to scrub up on her customer services!!

We wanted fish and chips on our last evening in Devon so I checked out Trip Advisor and found Maddys. The fish and chips were excellent and sadly I couldn't finish all the chips. The fish was excellent with really crispy batter. We also had a selection of sides and they were all good. Service was also quick.

Took a large group of 15 people here for a pre booked early evening meal. The staff had kindly put a number of tables together to enable everyone to sit together. The quality of food was very good, the portions were generous, the staff were friendly & couldn't be more helpful.
