I don’t usually write reviews however I’m terribly disappointed with my response from Maddox Tavern , I have chosen to write a review online. Myself and my partner made a visit to Maddox Tavern Mayfair on Friday 9th June 2023. We booked the last available lunch slot way in advance, booked our train tickets and travelled to London. We arrived just before our booked slot. We had a starter , main and cocktail as part of a voucher experience deal. We ate our starters and waited for our mains. The mains arrived and my partner could not eat his piping hot fish pie. I also noted it smelt very fishy. He starting eating the fish pie and said it didn’t taste right and left the fish pie . He said it was very fishy and had an off taste. Before I finished my meal , my partner left the table and went to the bathroom to throw up. The original waitress that greeted us came over , apologised and asked for my partners name and email to write down . Not wanting to make a fuss he declined as there was other customers in ear shot. However he told the waitress to let the chef know the fish was off incase another customer ordered it. We asked for the bill and left. I complained after arriving home and it was passed to a food agency to investigate . Due to my partner not providing ‘samples’ the complaint was dismissed after well over a month. I again passed my complaint to Maddox Tavern and they were ‘satisfied’ the food poisoning was not their issue. The Tavern didn’t acknowledge the rest of my complaint about spending money travelling and eating there for the day to be ruined. Would not recommend .

Amazing restaurant in the heart of Mayfair beautiful old building. Staff were very helpful and polite and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the building.

We went (me, my wife and our grown-up daughter) for dinner using Time Out discount vouchers with a special 2-course menu (£20 each). It's a welcoming, historic venue in Mayfair popular with local business people. We were immediately made very welcome and the menu options explained. The food was excellent with reasonably generous portions. The staff were lovely especially the Italian waitress. It was like being welcomed into someone's home. It was a friendly, hospitable experience with good food and great wine too (that was extra of course). The food (and between us we had starter, mains and deserts) were proper chef-created specials with character. No obvious short-cuts even in this value menu although the ingredients were inexpensive staples with a little magic applied in the kitchen. With the Time Out voucher the food was exceptionally good value.

We had paid extra to upgrade a Virgin experience voucher we were given. It is a lovely restaurant and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. However, although the starter of smoked salmon was delicious, that’s where is ended. I ordered the fish pie, with no fish!! Marks and Spencer do a far superior fish pie, this was just sauce and cheesy mash. The lemon drop cocktail was so small it wasn’t worth it. The final kick, we were charged service charge on our voucher!! So be warned you will still ah e to pay if using a voucher. So sad as,I would have loved to go back.

Went to use a voucher given. It was a cheese board for 2 with a glass of wine each. My policy with vouchers is always to spend a bit more at the venue (even if it’s not my bag) as I appreciate these places do these deals and don’t receive the full revenue. So we first had a couple of beers. Then went for our cheeseboard & wine. Added some fries, got talked into some croquettes (which upon receipt were cheese, so more cheese 😳) all very nice. My complaint is that when we got the bill, they had added the voucher as £30 in value and then discounted £30 from the bill. (Which was my gift) but had left their expectation of a tip for a percentage of that amount. Sure happy to pay the tip for the bits we ordered, but it felt a touch like we were shoehorned into a further cost. So my gift ended up costing me to redeem. And that’s the part which felt wonky to me. So you lose points for that. Would have probably left more had they not manipulated it 🤷‍♂️ their loss!

We had an amazing 3 course meal at the Maddox Tavern last night! From the service, to the drinks, to the quality of the food, it was all brilliant. The venison was amazing and we were delighted to find out that they source all produce as local as possible (surrounding counties). Thank you to Emran for looking after us all night and to Roberta to telling us about the restaurant and chefs. We will definitely be coming back!

Considering the hefty menu prices I would suggest it is below average from a food quality perspective. Nor was the service was aligned with the prices - one of the mains arrived after the others were half eaten. In addition, all three of us developed severe food poisoning presumably from the oysters we shared. We contacted the restaurant, they opened a 3rd party investigation which concluded that “these things happen with seafood” and we didnt ever hear back from Maddox Tavern, not even an acknowledgement, nor any kind of gesture. Two of us work in the food industry, myself as a marketeer and my friend in the service industry. It’s a shame that an expensive restaurant (£46 for an overcooked “medium rare” steak) has such little regard for customer service / retention.

Had a meal here on a Friday afternoon. Service was very good and our waitress was very attentive. The cocktails were really good as was the Soho Larger on draft. Had the vegetable risotto which was very nice indeed and my wife had the lamb, also very nice. Well worth a visit.

We went to the Maddox Tavern for a Saturday late lunch early dinner two weekends ago and were thrilled with the food and service. The staff were helpful and kind and went the extra mile when the main I ordered was not available so offered me something else, which was an excellent replacement. On chatting to the manager, we shared our up coming trip to Italy and he was kind enough to offer us some places to visit from his home town - an actual printed list. Nothing was too much trouble during our visit to this beautiful venue away from the hustle of Londons busy streets. We are looking forward to returning the next time we are in the area. Thank you - Joss & Matt

Great experience had by all members of our team. Mixed starters were lovely. The mains were divine. Best shepherd's pie I have ever had I heard my colleagues say. My chicken fricassee was excellent but not a lot of it . Very enjoyable lunch. I will be back soon with the missus, hope the chicken fricassee portions have increased!

Situated in a former "Gentleman's Outfitters" Maddox tavern is near the junction with New Bond Street. It is on a very big site stretching a long way back and has a charming atmosphere. There is a small dining area at the front with the bar behind and the main dining area is at the back as well as several private dining areas. There is a small choice of items "for the table" including the mature cheese croquettes which were excellent and made a good starter. The London cure smoked salmon, salmon rillette gougeres and Cheltenham beetroot was very good. Sadly the first choice Burrata had run out and it was noticeable that some of the other mains had run out for the table that arrived later next to us. Mains of grilled young chicken, preserved lemon, glazed English salsify and roasted shallots and the fillet of Cornish cod, nut brown butter, shrimps, parsley and lemon were both very nice and we added triple cooked fries and truffle and parmesan fries to the dishes. We had room for dessert, an ice cream selection which was interesting although not that much difference between the flavours and an excellent cold chocolate fondant. The wine list is well presented and not too pricey for the location. Staff were friendly but it was initially quite busy and it looked like they might have been short staffed but we were in and out in just under two hours which was perfectly acceptable. Hopefully they will be able to sort out the shortage of some of the menu items. Pricing was as you would expect for the location but there is an early supper at £29 for three courses which looked exceptional value for this level of cuisine.

Convenient for the Royal Academy and other Mayfair Galleries with a fixed price lunch menu (£34/3). Our food was excellent. The restaurant itself is in former premises for Winston Churchill’s tailors and private dining rooms are available. There is a bar area and extensive restaurant. Special thanks to Luigi for showing us around when we arrived very early. The food was of good quality and there was sufficient choice in the options to suit most. We will be back.

¡Refrescantemente perfecto!
