Love coming here. Staff are always friendly and welcoming from the moment you step foot through the door. Great menu and the food and drinks are lovely. Best coffee I’ve had. Must try the omelette !!!

We used to go to Maddison’s all the time and the food was stunning. Went on Friday and ordered the cheese toasties and a fish finger sandwich. It was not nice at all. So much so we left most of it. The cheesy chips were non existent. It’s sad. It was such a nice place to go. In fact one of the best in Consett until now.

Stop going to Costa !! Called for coffee and cake ad-hoc with the Wife the other day and 10/10 is the short headline. Had coffee and homemade cake and the best I’ve had anywhere in the UK tbh, superb and needs to be visited. Lovely staff, great place and epic cake and coffee. Not at all expensive for what you get, stop going to the local chains!!

Used to be great and good value. Now a change of owner and prices are expensive. The food is less quality and I'm surprised it survives when places like Wetherspoon and A Class Act in Leadgate offer a far superior food and value.

Visited this morning for breakfast with toddler who has dairy allergy . Asked if they had white bread which didn’t contain egg or milk . The male server when to the counter and asked what I think was the manager who immediately said they dont have it . They don’t even check the packet . Clearly afraid to serve child with allergy! Is this inclusive!? Do they not realise 90% of white bread does not contain egg or milk, and we have taken her there before. Disappointing . They also advertise vegan food do they realise this can’t contain egg or milk!!

Staff are always friendly and welcoming, service can be extremely slow. On my last visit we asked for our table to be cleaned 3 times, our food then arrived. Young waitress struggled to appreciate our minor frustrations. Food has always been delicious with a good choice, absolutely love a caramel latte and eggs Benedict. I do continue to return but do feel an extra staff member would be of benefit to them. That’s why I gave 4 stars ⭐️

First the good - the staff were very friendly and attentive. And there was a very good choice of interesting scones. However my wife's sultana scone was stale and tasteless, and my cheese scone very tasty, but a bit doughy in the middle. Our fault, we should have reported the issues to give the staff a chance to put things right. Next time.

Just happened to be passing through Consett at lunch time,we parked outside the theatre & saw Maddisons across the road,they were busy but they seemed to find tables quickly especially if you could climb stairs but being disabled we waited a short while. The food was very good,we both had toasted cheese sandwiches,asked for onion on both ,this was an extra 75 p each,think 50 p would have been plenty,a latte & a pot of tea for 1,we bought 2 fruit scones to take away,which were delicious & so large,shared one between us twice.£21 & 15 p was the bill. If in the area would definitely call again

£4.50 for a 2 item breakfast sandwich, £6.00 for 3! My 2 item one arrived cold, sausages undercooked and over £12 for that, a scone, tea and coffee. Oh, I noted breakfast was £8.50. Ridiculous. First time there with new owners and not going back.

Booked a table for 4 at Maddisons during eat out to help out and was not disappointed. Nicely decorated and great menu, friendly staff, delicious food, and amazing cakes. All an award winning combination in a really relaxing setting. Highly recommended, especially my burger which was very tasty!

Called a couple of hours before being in area to book a table for six and they were very accommodating. Ordered brunch, eggs benedict was a popular choice with party and a full English. All was delicious and well cooked. Collected cakes to take away which were fab. Couldn’t fault the place - lovely staff and brilliant food. A gem in consett! Thanks x

Have been to maddisons alot lately for take away food during lockdown and everthing has always been perfect! Especially loved the munchie box which is great value for money and the loaded fries. Thank you all so much for working through and providing lovely food!

Average can't get a large latte comes in a small mug scones used to be worth a visit on this occasion nothing special.

We called at Maddison’s for lunch and how pleased we did . Firstly the welcome was so refreshing , Louise Amy and the staff have exceptional customer service and although it was very busy made sure we had a table without delay . The ambience was wonderful. My husband decided on the steak baguette which he said was the best he’d ever had . I decided on the honey and mustard chicken salad it was delicious and both were beautifully presented. We had a bottle of wine to accompany and sat and enjoyed a wonderful Saturday lunch . Nothing is too much trouble here the staff are so friendly you are relaxed from the minute you walk through the door. The menu is perfect varied bistro dishes and amazing homemade baked cakes scones etc with an extensive variety of coffees/teas and licensed drinks. If you are ever in Consett this is the place to be everything about it is Fabulous !! Thank you Louise Amy and all the staff we will be back soon .

Somebody recommended this when I was 'tutting' at the thought of a 30 minute wait at a local Farmshop Cafe...I'm glad they did.This place features great coffee, cakes etc but I had the homemade ham hock soup which was delicious and a true taste of the North East (perhaps that is their U.S.P?).Cannot recommend enough, good food, lovely staff and not at all pretentious.

The premises are clean and attractive and there is a large selection of sweet and savoury foods which are freshly made. There is a lovely out door area and there is an upstairs which has lots of private areas for special occasions. This is a lovely place to meet friends and the place is clean with a lovely oldly worldly interior.

I took my mother here for afternoon tea. We both hadn't been to maddison's before and we were both impressed. Staff are so friendly and the food was delicious. Will definitely return and would highly recommend the afternoon tea

You really wouldn't expect to find a cafe as good as this in Consett. Wouldn't be out of place in a neighborhood of Manhatten. Great food, great attentive service and amazing value for money. Up there with Knitsley as two great food places in unusual locations. The load fries are awesome, breakfasts great, homemade soups with great deep flavour - just really good value and great flavours. Keep it up!!!

My partner and I visited Maddisons for breakfast, we were seated then left for just over 10 minutes without ordering food or drinks. We both ordered eggs Benedict with hot drinks. When it came it looked lovely, but when I tried it unfortunately it was absolutely foul. It was so salty the sauce and ham was sweet, a really bad meal.

My first time here (although my wife has been before with her shopping buddies). We called in for lunch after an 'exhausting' shopping expedition and I was immediately struck by the quirky nature of the surroundings....loved it ! I ordered the mac'n'cheese and it did not disappoint....creamy, cheesy, cooked perfectly....and filling!The service was excellent (including the owner) apart from a dead-eyed blonde who didn't seem to care whether we ordered anything or not.However, this is a place I would return to any time !

I love coming to this place for breakfast and there’s a great choice. I’m picky about my coffee but I’m never disappointed with maddisons. Their coffee is just the best. The staff are great too. Highly recommended.

The hot chocolate with everything is amazing - huge mugs, big marshmallows and loads of cream. I highly reccomend the Madison’s Mac n Cheese Fries. Oozy, cheesy, pasta and potatoes - what more could you want?My partner enjoyed a ham & cheese toastie, which had generous slices of bread and generously filled.Highly recommend popping in here for lunch - it was an unexpected delight!

I’ve been here a few times with different people but I always seem to go for the eggs benny. The coffee is good and the food delish. There is a lovely atmosphere here. My only slight complaint that has made me give 4 instead of 5 stars is that on this visit where we were sat by the window, there were 5 dead moths on the windowsill. Whilst it didn’t really bother me too much it just looked awful and I felt that it would have been such a simple thing to fix.

I love this place. Staff are always lovely, happy and helpful. Getting good Gluten Free food is a struggle. Madison's have nailed it. My new go to place in Consett.

We came in for lunch, lovely welcoming. I ordered the burger which was beautiful partner ordered jacket potato. Service was great very friendly staff. We even ordered the cakes which I would 100% recommend. Will be back thank you!!

Popped in for an early afternoon coffee. We live quite a way out of the area so wanted a quick coffee before our long journey home. Was greeted the moment we walked in, which was nice.

Been here twice now for the bistro nights with busker/guitar singer entertainment. The tapas has been very good, atmosphere great , setting very nice. Stands out against the usual offerings in Consett.

Maybe very high is too much. We enjoyed our meals and staff were efficient. Would return. Toilet OK. Near bus station.

Had a lovely lunch here recently. The atmosphere was good and the cafe was warm and cosy on a cold day. The tacos I had were absolutely delicious. Scone and cake I got for later were delicious too the staff were very friendly too. Will definitely return.

I visit Maddison’s on a regular basis and love it every time! I cannot understand any review regarding rude staff as all of the small team are amazing. I would recommend booking a table to avoid disappointment as they do get very busy.

I have been a regular customer at Maddison’s for many years and took my mum there for lunch yesterday.

Great food and lovely staff. Visited at lunchtime on Saturday and it was really busy. Well worth the wait. Sandwich and rarebit was lovely but the mac n cheese dirty fries were amazing!! Lattes were piping hot which was great. Cupcakes were amazing!! Thanks for a great experience.

This place has THE BEST eggs benedict I’ve ever tasted. The coffee is great too as are the mahoosive cheese scones which vary in flavour from time to time. It has a lovely atmosphere and is a firm favourite when I’m on my own as well as with my family.

What a fantastic place Maddison’s is, I always look forward to visiting and I have a great experience every time. Thank you to the girls for always smiling!

I visited Maddison’s on Saturday after my shift at work and I had a great experience! They were so busy I sat outside in the fantastic secret garden, I had a 4 cheese toastie with onions and ham and a portion of fries and it was amazing! I had to take a slice of cake home because it looked so good. The girls working were so friendly and attentive. I will be back next week!

I have been to Maddison’s a few times and it has been lovely, however after today I will never set foot in there again. Made to feel very awkward, it’s so cramped we didn’t see there were people waiting for a table so we sat on the next free one and after 5 minutes got told Infront of a room full of people we had to get up. This could’ve been done in a better way or there should be a system in place as it was embarrassing!

Had brilliant service today with a work colleague. Food delicious, coffee and tea served beautifully. the scones are the best ever too. The staff are lovely and the decor is lovely. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Consett.

Visited here prior to going to Believe & Be in Consett. Very welcoming and it is quirky enough to stand it out from normal coffee shops. Good range on the menu (as well as for kids). Think you would have to have a reason to be in Consett but if you are then this place is worth a try.

Popped in here for lunch surroundings are very nice we sat in the outside garden as it was a nice day. The menu is varied and the food very good. The price is quite expensive but made up for by the quality of the food.

I only had time to call for a cheese scone en route to France for my holidays. I just couldn’t resist taking one with me. I like that there are several choices too. I like the more unusual flavours with onions and cheeses.

Amazing great quality tasty food, extremely polite and friendly staff. A fantastic selection of homemade cakes and scones. There’s a secret garden at the back which is fantastic when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend visiting Maddison’s.

This coffee bar and bistro has a great reputation for wonderful coffees, selection of hot chocolates and milkshakes, and the food is great, It is a great meeting place to relax and unwind with friends and family.

We stopped here for some food and coffee on our final day cycling the C2C - it's really close to the route. We stumbled upon this place and it really is a gem. Super friendly, great food, cake and tea. Plus there are places to lock bikes right outside.

Have heard many great things about this little place so finally paid them a visit today. We could tell as soon as we stepped through the door how popular the place was, a week day afternoon and we just managed to grab the last available seats!

Went here with a Consett local who had told me how great this cafe was and it definitely lived up to the hype. I had a hot chocolate which was thick and rich with whipped cream and came with a slice of homemade marshmallow and really it was one of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever had. I also had one of their massive scones, it had raisins and apple pieces and came warmed and fresh and was just delicious. My friend and I also split one of there peanut butter brownies which was totally yummy. Loved the decor, the staff were really welcoming and friendly and the toilet was like something out of a 5 star restaurant. Really this whole cafe wouldn’t be out of place in a posh part of London but thankfully with North East prices. Definitely going back.

I had my first visit here last week, I was meeting a friend. The staff are very friendly, a brilliant varied menu offering loads of different options. The venue is clean and tidy and a lovely atmosphere very nicely decorated.

I visited today with a friend for lunch. This café is really lovely, it feels homely and cosy, with good music a nice atmosphere.

This is probably the best coffee we have ever had, and the food looks fabulous - we will be there next Friday! The wooden décor, the wooden covers on the menus and the service were all top class. What a lovely surprise to find this gem in the most unlikely place. Well done to everyone concerned.

Best Club Sandwich I've ever had and I've had a lot of them.... Really filling, tasty and worth the trip.

I've been a couple of times not to Maddisons and can't fault it! The food is delicious, I had the Yorkshire Pudding Calzone, my wife had the salmon salad and a friend had the fish finger sandwich on one visit, we were all VERY happy with our food!

Maddison's Fish Finger Stack was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. In a brioche bun with salad and wonderful Tatar slaw was a taste sensation.

Have been here on several occasions both with the other half and the little un and it's never disappointed although on the higher spectrum of price in comparison to others it doesn't disappoint and you get what you pay for . Delicious food and snacks freshly made and served by a 5 star staff who are very attentive to customers.

Went for a catch-up with a friend I used to work with! Ordered hot chocolate and the chocolate cake (maybe a bit too much chocolate) definitely not a Slimming World snack haha! Was brilliant!

Was walking past after carrying out some work and spied the menu through the window. Being a cheese scone lover thought I would give it a go. With a choice of 4 different savoury scones I was spoilt for choice. I went with mature cheddar as this is the yardstick I measure most coffee shops. It arrived quickly warm and looking fab. It lived up to the look it tasted heavenly the cheese was just right to taste but no overpower! I could have eaten another it was so nice. The rest of the menu also looked very nice so I will be back in to try more ! Lovely recommended!

Called in for coffee and toastie and was very nicely surprised. So different from anything else in Consett. You could have been in a city centre upmarket coffee house. From the design of the interior to the service, food and atmosphere it was top class.

Called in after a recommendation and was not disappointed! The coffee was lovely, the filled baguette gorgeous and the philly steak sandwich delicious. Add to that fries with lashings of blue cheese and we were both highly impressed. Definitely worth a visit and we will be going again!!!

We stopped here while on the C2C route through to Tynemouth - the C2C doesn't actually go through the town centre but we fancied a break and a coffee! Firstly the coffee and food were fantastic , but more importantly the staff were very friendly and let us take our bikes around the back into the spacious and securely locked garden. Well done to all , would thoroughly recommend if you're passing through.

I have been a customer of Maddisons Coffee Bar for many years now. Recently I have went vegan and gluten free due to allergies and my orders have always been spot on. My allergies have been catered for 100% and the staff always put me at ease. Myself an my partner chose to visit here for his 30th Birthday (breakfast) it was nothing shorty of Outstanding. I have recommended Maddisons to all of my family and friends as it is literally the best place to eat for my needs. The food is always fresh and tasty and never varies in quality. Thank you again for your understanding and hospitality to all the staff at Maddisons café. A true asset to the Consett and Country Durham Area!!

Ordered dirty fries with sweet chilli chicken and sweet potato fries with sloppy joe topping. Both enjoyed our food which was beautifully cooked and very tasty. Love this place and would highly recommend to everyone. Louise and Olivia

We enjoyed our visit to Maddisons. I had a sloppy pig, and my son the welsh rarebit, both were delicious. We would have had tea and coffee too, but I felt they were rather expensive.I thought the sloppy pig would have been better with a slightly larger flatbread. Mnor criticisms but the service was good and the staff pleasant - that counts for a lot.

Popped into Maddisons today for coffee and cakes as we had heard that they were good - they definitely did not disappoint! A great selection of coffees and both the cappuccino and cortado were made to perfection. We also had a red leicester and chive scone and a date and stem ginger scone. They were served warm and they honestly were the best scones we've ever had (and we've tried a lot...). Will definitely be returning soon.

Top quality food and excellent value for money. Maddisons has a great menu with lots of choice, I've eaten here many times over the last 10 years and honestly cannot fault the food or the staff. The drinks menu is varied, my kids love the various fruit smoothie drinks and milk shakes whilst I love the choice of coffees. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious, also the freshly baked scones. Check out the Al fresco dining out back, it's lovely.

Food - brilliant. Service - brilliant. Milkshakes - brilliant. Doing C2C. locked bikes outside and in full view. Call had gone up 30 minutes before that we needed fish finger sandwiches. Oh boy - they were on the menu. These were fish finger sandwiches from the gods. Huge, tasty, first class. Then the milkshakes. 1xOreo, 1xCrunchie, 1xChocolate Orange. Silence descended on the table as they were drunk. Overall superb. Very friendly as well.

Over 20 minutes to o order coffee. Another 10 minutes before we got it. It wasn't heaving. Very slow service - give it a miss if you're in a hurry.

We regularly visit Maddison's if we plan to shop in Consett, meet a friend or have some time out to catch up on paper's, magazines and enjoy their wide selection of scones and my hubby's favourite bacon sandwich. We scone and bacon all around the North East of England and we think these stand comparison with anywhere else, probably being in our top choice for the area. Whilst we would go for a business meeting, it is not private but a room upstairs, if open, would be best; note also there is no Wi-Fi as far as we are aware but we can get on line without, so no big issue.By the way, Consett cannot claim to be UK's most beautiful town, but the people are lovely, it has traditional shopping and the big multi-s have moved in. But it is located amongst the most beautiful hill scenery in England with loads of country paths created from the old rail tracks and fields where the old Steel industry used to be located. Also the Consett Empire Theatre, Cinema and Concert venue is a regular haunt of ours.

Called in yesterday (Friday) for a quick breakfast, realised we had actually missed breakfast but ask the waitress if they could still do anything and they did. We both had eggs benedict and a coffee and it was beautiful. Lady who served us was lovely and helpful. Will definitely be back very soon. Thanks

I've been to Maddisons twice now and plan to going there at least once everytime I'm in the area henceforth. I've been lucky enough to travel around southern California a lot and there it is easy to find a good breakfast, not so much in the UK. However Maddisons bucks the trend. They have a diverse and creative breakfast/brunch menu and are will to customise their standard dishes to please although saying that I wish they did omlettes to order but hey! Very calm and chilled atmosphere and friendly, efficient staff. It's really easy to rate this restaurant as 5 stars. I wish there was something like this close to where I live.

Food was exceptional and the new outdoor area is lovely in the sun. One of the best places to eat in the area during the day.

I've visited Maddison's quite a few times now and can't fault it. I've recently been diagnosed with intolerances to both lactose and gluten, which inevitably makes eating out tricky. Maddison's manage to cater for both of these intolerances and still serve up amazing food! The staff are super helpful and will literally check the ingredients in everything to make sure it's ok.

This was my first visit to Maddison's Coffee Bar and Bistro. Having experiences the drinks and cakes, friendly service and overall feel of the place, looked at what's on offer from the Bistro menu and drinks menu I will definitely be visiting again (soon I hope). A very enjoyable experience.

I used to love this place came at least once a week. The food is always of exceptional quality service can be a bit slow but it's always busy. My only reason for 4/5 is the menu change. It's been in for a couple of years now however it doesn't do jacket potatoes or normal sandwiches anymore. They were amazing. The food now is lovely but it's not the same please bring the old menu back!

Fantastic service and really good food. We had two dogs with us and the staff were very accommodating after we had struggled to find somewhere to eat.I am vegan so the menu was great with vegan meals and drinks. The ALT was fabulous. Excellent service, amazing food, great prices. Would definitely recommend.

Who would have thought a little cafe in Consett would be able to provide some of the best coffee in the UK.What a great find just a shame I was unable to eat some of the amazing food that was on offer as I'd already eaten.The cakes and lunches looked amazing.
