Mad Squirrel Tap & Bottleshop Amersham in Chiltern

The service here is quick and friendly, even when they are busy.. we didn’t have the food… Firstly I must disclose that I am a 30 year CAMRA member and also an experienced craft Brewer We desperately wanted to like this place. I was really hoping that the beer was going to be a pleasant surprise, places like this should be encouraged where possible. Sadly, my Colleague and I could find little redeeming in any of the beers we tried .. At the bar the young man was helpful, but couldn’t tell us any of the base malts used or any of the hops, referring us to a few cans in the fridge behind for the hop names, not many shown.. Without exception, all 14 of the beers we tried were pretty tasteless and watery, often with a slightly muddy colour and off flavour. We even resorted to trying a couple of cans to see if there was a problem with the pipes or the storage, the cans were pretty much the same… I don’t know if it is the yeast strain that’s being used or a lack of quantity or quality ingredients, fermentables and hops, but none of the beers seemed to have a distinctive or interesting flavour. My colleague and I shared half a pint of each beer and in the end, quite a few were on the table unfinished.. very frustrating all round as we had been looking forward to an interesting evening I know exactly what Craft beer is, and this is not it, sadly..

I've heard really good reports about this place. There was some live jazz being played, whilst it's not my thing, it did create a great atmosphere. I ordered my sour beer, pulled out the exact cash and I'm told "WE DON'T ACCEPT CASH". Despite me having the exact money, these people would rather pour away an unpaid pint because of some silly rule. Come on people, put your customers first or your business will fail.

mac morpheus served me was a great experience

Don't accept cash so will not use this place again. The arrogance of not accepting British tender is mind boggling. They are obviously making so much money that they can turn away real money.

Nice place for socialising and music on a Friday and Saturday nights

Pretty decent place. An ok beer list very much favouring IPA so if that's your thing, you're OK. Good staff.

Great local, great pub quiz too! Would love a few more zero alcohol options but still had a brilliant time! Recommend.

good stopover when in that particular part of Amersham. The usual tasty beers, outside seating. addendum 22/10/23: £7.50 for a pint of IPA might be ok in Central London but it's extortionate here. minus 1 star

They cancelled my order after I had paid for and told me they had no ingredients for my pizza. And on another occasion they refused to serve me even though I was there before closing time of restaurant. Very pathetic and unprofessional.

Definitely my favourite place in top Amersham. It’s dog friendly and the service is absolutely amazing. Now they’ve just added hot dogs to their menu, which is plus. A place run by people who care makes all the difference.

There’s a good selection of beers, ales and ciders to chose from. Lots of space inside and also a big outside area by the front.

Ive been a regular patron of The Mad Squirrel Amersham since it opened in late 2015. Ive always enjoyed my experience there, the artizan pizza is freshly made and absolutely delicious, a good selection of craft ales, local gins and rum. The staff are friendly and informative, promote a lively atmosphere and keep the place immaculate. There are regular quizzes, live music and terrestrial sport such as England football and rugby. Also the occasional beer festival. Id highly recommended Mad Squirrel to visitors to Amersham and locals.

Great place to visit and have a beer, pizzas is good as well, pricing a bit high but worth a visit. Parking on main road sometimes you get a space other times you don't.

Great place. Lovely staff. Great range of beers and other drinks. Great music on Saturdays and Quiz on Wednesdays. Lovely outdoor seating area too with heaters. You can enjoy the music inside and out.

Great selection of beer on keg and draft with styles from IPA to stout, cider, German and Belgian styles also. All brewed by the Mad Squirrel brewery. Staff are knowledgeable. The Squirrel brewery beers also available in cans for in house consumption or take away. 1ltr and 2ltr bottles, called Growlers can be purchased to fill with keg and draft beer to take-away. Snacks can be purchased including, when available, biltong (Dried spiced beef), crisps and nuts which are the perfect beer accompaniment.

Great selection of craft ales, knowledgable and friendly staff who actually care about the beers and customers' enjoyment. They also make excellent pizza and, importantly, only have a few pizzas to choose from, so it's perfect for families and sharing. Plenty of outside seating.

Interesting new pub chain that do craft beers as well as pizza and garlic bread. 🍺🍕🍞 Quite a bit of outside seating and decent table service. Will be interesting to see inside post lockdown.

Lovely evening spent with friends and work colleagues, our teams are changing but we will catch up often 😊even though it was raining we were outside but under an awning it did not dampen our spirits.

Always have a good selection of beer with a new funky get up outside. Service was prompt and courteous.

Great, shuts early enough to have a guilt free "school night" beer. Background music is quiet enough for a chat, which is important.

Great selection of drinks. Food menu on pizza is slim but all great hits. Unfortunately last time pizzas ran out and we missed out despite constant effort to highlight to staff we wanted a few for the table.

Great place to sit outside. Beer ok. Inside is very loud, very hard to hear anything. They desperately need some acoustic tiles on the celling.

I like their beer but not the app. App says it does Apple Pay. It takes my details and doesn’t accept Apple Pay. Bit of a disappointment.

Rugby on screen beer on tap with variety abound. Wine & gin also available. When peckish pizza or cheesy garlic bread available. What more can you ask for. Beer & nibbles!!

Lovely pizzas, atmosphere is great and staff are very polite and helpful. Would definitely recommend coming here for a chilled meal with a group of mates.

Mad Squirrel does very good beers, I definitely think they are in the top 5 of the best breweries in the UK. The space is big with plenty of seats for you to choose from.

I would have given the Squirrel a much higher rating but due to staff allowing customers to vape inside is not a nice atmosphere to be in. We would have ordered a pizza, however due to the vaping which is right in the prime place of the shop,we declined. Great shame that a few can spoil for the majority.

Nice little tap room with decent pizza and good, well price beer on draft. The only slight thing was that they needed more staff on to cope with the number of people in there as there was quite a large queue.

Nice relaxed venue with a wide range of beverages available. Food is basic but nice. Live music is very good.

Good choice of real ale, drink in their bar or take away, nice bar co-located with a pizza takeaway, the only downside was the price of the beer, for someone from the Midlands I thought it was very expensive but I guess the people who live here are wealthy so you have to pay the price 🤔

Great little tap room in Amersham. Staff are friendly and the beer is fresh. They take card payment and do beer to take away. Bottle or growler. They do fresh pizzas too.

Brilliant beer at a reasonable price. It's a decent size with a nice outdoor space for when it's sunny. Great pizza too. Staff are all very friendly.

Had to move away from the outdoor heaters, probably a great idea most of the time but the day I went was actually hot without artificial assistance. Had the house beer 'mad squirrel', which was overpriced and rather unremarkable.

Great local brewery outlet, plenty of seating in and out. I had a pint of their London Porter, it was outstanding a very good pint. Pleasant helpful staff and they have their own pizza bar. Well worth a visit, would recommend.

The place has extended into the unit next door since it originally opened, so there's loads of space inside and outside. Great range of beers. Serves coffee and pizza but I've no idea if it's any good. Casual, relaxed place.

Good place to drink. Only issue I have, is it does not smell nice inside and tables are sticky. But a huge variety of beer.
