Out cycling and popped in to Mack’s Cafe for lunch. We both had breakfast that was cooked exactly as we requested and both were delicious. Try the breakfast you won’t be disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great no nonsense caff.,every gaff in brighton is trying to charge £15 for a breakfast, macs is always under a tenner with a drink. Great fried eggs, only thing Is if you want toast make sure you say so, breakfasts don’t come with it . A weekend staple would go again

Have enjoyed the breakfasts at this cafe until, unfortunately, today experiencing the Basil Fawlty impersonator that I assume to be the proprietor. On requesting a replacement for the cup of shaving foam I was served for the coffee that I had paid (extra) for, the boorish oaf took it upon himself to lecture me on why I was not entitled to receive what I'd asked and paid for. His contempt for his customers was palpable, he clearly had no clue about how his own business was run properly on a day-to-day basis by his great staff, and he was busy throwing his (considerable) weight around behind the counter like a big balloon full of hot air. I will no longert be adding to the profits of anything owned by this atrociously rude tub of lard.

Visited this place a few times lately, and was surprised how the prices vary depending who's behind the counter. Ordered exactly the same meal / drink on two different occasions, first time was charged £7.60, second time charged £8.80 My advice is be careful if you order something not on the priced menu. Agree with a previous comment on the smaller plates. Beans filled most of my plate, so just a handful of chips, very crafty. The food is ok, staff friendly (depending on who's working), big guy behind the counter - could be more helpful / friendly. Cafe is spotlessly clean. Just need to clean up the issues of pricing / consistency of food on plates / be a bit more friendly towards the customers (not difficult really).

This cafe used to be great. It has now been taken over by a new owner who can not cook.Very small plates of food which look nothing like the pictures on the wall.I would rather starve than go to this over priced dirty cafe.

This cafe has all the elements of being excellent for a bacon sandwich & mug of tea but just lacks the "wow factor" of maybe a bright and breezy manager greeting and joking with the clientele.

Visited on 8 January 2022. 1st visit since the cafe changed hands. Always rated it and have been using it for years. New owner has upped the standards so the breakfast is even better. Sausages are deffo higher quality. Two of us visited, I had a Number 2 with beans plus extra egg and fried spuds. My buddy had a Mac's special with extra black pudding and extra mushrooms. Both of has a mug of tea as well. Cost £20.50 but happy to pay that as everything was great. Pleased to see a couple of ladies from before the new ownership are still working here, service with a smile. :- ) as ever.

Looked great on the board, enough to satisfy the hungriest of builders. Came out thankfully small. Cold, under cooked, poor quality and way too greasy (no need to make it therein ingredient) all topped off with some of the worst tea possible.

Stumbled across this place trying to find a place with an outside area as we were with our dog. Really friendly staff, coming out to open up the gate to let us into the garden. And def the best English full I've had for a long time. All very covid safe, good food and welcoming staff..... What more could we want on a blustery Saturday in Brighton 😊

I was worried that time might have changed the place and the food but I am glad to saybits exactly as I remember it. The breakfasts were great and the staff are friendly and helpful and they are doing a cracking job through the epidemic. Thanks guys for a great breakfast. Highly recommended

Popped in there this morning with the family for breakfast. Food is well overpriced for what we received and the “tea” was rank. Luke warm and tasted like it had been stewed since the day before, little things make a massive difference and a decent sauce “Heinz preferably” is a must. You can easily ruin a breakfast with cheap sauce which is exactly what we were given, Heinz was not an option. I asked for a receipt as I was unsure as to what I had been charged for. Found out I was a charged twice for the drinks I had been given, and charged double for scrambled egg on toast. Also asked for ham within the scrambled eggs and instead received one piece of toast with egg on top and a slice of ham on the side which cost £1.50, you can buy a whole pack for that. Shame really it’s gone down hill over the years, To be fair my breakfast was spot on apart from the sauce. Counter staff need to buck there ideas up and seeing as we are on a Covid situation it would be nice to see staff monitoring where customers are sitting, we sat down in a fairly empty diner only to have someone come along and sit right next to us, he was politely asked to fxxx off to another table. Come on macs, sort the prices and the sauce out. Won’t be returning for a while other cafes are better value for money, some background radio would be nice too.

I walked in, observed my surroundings and gagged at the sight of my peers. If you and your relatives regularly participate in the act of love making, Mac’s cafe is the place for you. After just 30 seconds of viewing the disgraceful menu, i was faced with a smart arse comment from who I can only assume was the love child of Jo brand and jabba the hut.I ordered the number 2, which was a very fitting title as I’m genuinely convinced that I was served excrement. The food, oh heavens , the food . It would be wrong to serve that to a rodent. I was genuinely appalled by what I had just purchased. I couldn’t tell if I was mad at the foul beast who had concocted that abomination or at myself for purchasing it. I’ve never eaten a turd but I can only assume that that is the closest you can come to their ‘sausages’ with out actually eating then.

Macs Cafe is a proper old school (no frills) greasy spoon, offering a range of breakfasts and lunches to the hard working folk and OAP’s of Brighton. So traditional it should have a preservation order put on it! My favourite breakfast is their bubble with bacon, egg, tomato, combo - often with an additional fried slice or hash brown. I have to admit that their sausages hold no appeal (as they are more bread than meat) but I have no complaints about anything else on their breakfast menu, and over the past 25 years I’ve tried most things. A brilliant breakfast institution!

Virtually every time I'm in Brighton, my brother takes me for breakfast at Macs at least once. It has never disappointed. I've had better breakfasts, I've had cheaper breakfasts, but Macs provides the best value that I can recall. The crusty bread sausage and egg sandwich has become my favourite but everything eaten (including by family) has been tasty, filling and plentiful. On a different note, the kitchenis always busy but those working behind it are always ready with a smile and friendly word. Looking forward to the next one...

We chose food from the specials menu . My husband had a steak pie and I had a bacon pudding. I found mine a bit to dry but plenty of bacon in it. My husband's pie looked lovely. He said best pie had for ages, I of course tasted his pie so wish I had had same as him like I normally do. Staff are very friendly and cafe very clean. We have eaten in there for many years and food is very varied and good price.

Everything about Mac's Cafe has remained unchanged for the best part of three decades or more, and none of the locals are complaining. If you're looking for an authentic old-school fried breakfast, there aren't any genuine competitors in Brighton or Hove. It may not be healthy but it sure is tasty!

We stumbled on this café recently whilst in Brighton for the weekend. I usually order a cold drink as I find it nigh on impossible to get a good cuppa nowadays, but I ordered a tea...strong with a touch of milk and it was perfect! They use proper loose tea locally sourced in Brighton. The name escapes me but it was such a good cup of tea! We ordered bacon egg and mushrooms on toast.Service was quick and the food was cooked well. I must admit I was very surprised to read the negative comments about the staff as I found them to be very friendly and genuine people. It is a very busy café so everyone is doing their bit so to keep the kitchen running smoothly. I liked the fact that they hand wash the plates etc and anyone who has worked in the catering business will appreciate what hard work it is,working in a hot kitchen. Its not for the faint hearted! I would just like to say Thankyou to all the staff at Macs, for the lovely food and piping hot cups of tea. I talked to all these members of staff over the weekend and felt they deserved a mention. See you next year - Thanks to Andy Karen Ros Riley Sandra Laura Norah Lindsay and Frances. ☺

Only went to Mac's Cafe due to a far far far better cafe (Rodean Cafe) being very busy. Had once been in before and been severely disappointed with both the very poor customer and close to inedible food, I decided to give it another chance, what a mistake. If you like a cafe with screaming children, poor customer service and low quality food, this is the place for you. If you like a good quality breakfast or lunch, in the same price range you can go to Roedean Cafe, just down the A259 east bound. Mac's Cafe obviously is ran by magicians, they manage to toast bread so it's still soft all over and burnt to a crisp on the outside, it's shocking. Oh, don't forget about the half cooked bacon and sausages that have a consistency of mash potatoes rather than meat. It would also be nice if the woman behind the counter could crack a smile and say hello, rather than give a blind dead eyed stare into your soul.

Went into Small Batch, Hove Station at 4.20 pm yesterday. I ordered a coffee as a dine-in customer. Was told that I would have to use a take away cup as they would be closing soon. I left but not before telling the cashier that I would have drunk my coffee within 10 minutes. Small Batch website indicates that they close at 5.00 pm. BTW there were no other customers. Anyway, I went down the road and gave another coffee shop my business.

Unfortunately, even though there were many things right I'll be avoiding this place. The service was impeccable, good beer, perfect lighting and lovely music. So what was wrong? A coven of aggressive women believing they ran the place because they'd booked a table. At their request the music, that I'd been enjoying, was turned off so they could conduct their meeting whilst sipping peppermint tea. I'd suggest a pub isn't an ideal place for this sort of thing. Especially if you're hell-bent on spoiling the atmosphere for everyone else. Sadly, they're regulars.
