We go out once a week for a treat (not easy in the current financial climate). We decided to visit Macleods Restaurant for lunch. The staff were great, very helpful and pleasant throughout. But we felt let down with the food. There are only 5 main courses on offer, yet one was not available (the burger) as it had not been delivered! Really, you can’t manage to have 5 options delivered and available. We both had the fish and chips, and both of us found the batter heavy and greasy, so we left the batter. Finally, we discovered on paying that a 10% tip was added without notifying us or mentioning it in any way; it was just added to the bill and then included in the total. You shouldn’t just include it in the total and it is not acceptable to put customers in the position of having to ask you to remove a tip from the bill. Money is tight enough without this type of practice, so sadly we won’t be visiting again.

Very disappointed, came for food after an amazing experience at the spa. Baked camembert wasn’t cooked the whole way through with raw garlic in, it was solid in the middle so un-dippable. Prawns came out room temperature which was a little dubious. They did replace both, but still plum average. Bar staff were stand offish, cold and unhelpful, except for the lady who was lovely and welcoming. Such a shame, hopefully they can up the standard to match the spa, and it seems from reviews the restaurant used to be good but has lost its way. Would avoid for now.

We were staying at The Coniston Hotel and we were debating whether to go out in Skipton for food but I'm so glad we decided to stay at the hotel. David the sommelier, made our evening extra special. He had such passion for food and wine, he made the perfect wine pairings for our food selection (which were different from the suggestions on the menu) and they were absolutely fantastic and really enhanced the flavour of our dishes. He made the whole experience even more enjoyable, we will definitely be coming back again!

We were staying at the hotel for new year and our evening meals were served in Mcleods, which we have visited previously. This is a lovely restaurant with proper old fashioned etiquette and values, which I love. Ladies are treated like ladies - seated first, served first, etc - which is most welcome in this fast-moving world. The food is perfectly cooked and elegantly presented and the restaurant staff are always happy to advise on wine choices if required. There is absolutely nothing I could fault in this restaurant and I can't wait to return. Thank you

Ate here whilst staying at the hotel. Menu looked lovely. Had a nice gin in the adjacent bar before dinner Starters (1 grouse, 1 scallops) were excellent. Mains however (lamb and stone bass) a bit lacking in flavour. Deserts well presented, but not the best (maybe we chose poorly?) Service ok, but not as attentive as I’d expect in a 2 rosette restaurant. Excellent wine list.

We attended a wedding in McLeods Restaurant - it was beautifully decorated but I believe that much of thatwas done by the wedding party. Before I describe the meal I would like to say why I only gave 4 stars! The canapes pre mealwere served on the terrace and the y oung lady serving them did not make sure that she went to every table/group. She mised me out and the table at which I was sitting. Others at the table managed to catch her on her return to the kitchen. When she returned wih another tray I called to her - she asked -in an unpleasant manner- if I was vegetarian and when I said no she marched off and proceeded to serve people to whom she had already served the meat canapes earlier. She then disappeared and returned with two small plates with what looked like one serving each on them. She again told me they were vegetarian and I told her how rude she had been and how she had ignored me, She sent someone else out with the next tray! They were delicious but her behaviour was the only cloud on what was a wonderful few days. The wedding "breakfast" which was very welcome as I was so hungry was delicious. Shredded duck and chorizo salad followed by chicken in a magical mushroom sauce (I asked for and was given extra sauce) withotoatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables. I am not a great fan of chocolate puddings but the chocolate ganache was delicious. Definitely a meal to remember.

We had a family Christmas meal a few days ago & were not impressed. One starter claimed to have avocado in it - but when served there was no avocado. This was reported to the waitress - she went away - and nothing happened. No follow up - nothing. Service continued in this vein - my partner ordered a small version of a dish - and was advised it would be small so should have some chips. But a large version turned up!! Two sticky toffee puddings were ordered - one showed up. Three - £ - waiters were informed of this before...you guess it two more came!!! Two of our party liked some of their food. But the restaurant trades off the rather lovely view. Food is not great - and service is really lacking. Expensive for what it was - we were all very disappointed

My wife and I visited Macleods restaurant on the 10th November. The room is very smart and the atmosphere was nice once it started to fill up - there weren't many people in the restaurant when we sat down. The service from the staff was excellent, friendly and courteous without being OTT. The style of the food is fine dining, if you are looking for large portions then this probably isn't the place for you, but we found it just right. There were about 6 or 7 options for each of the three courses, may be a few more options would have been good? The wine list was extensive, good selection of wines plus plenty of other options - whiskies, gins, port etc. The following day we returned to collect our car and after a nice walk around the lake we had lunch in a different restaurant which has extensive views over the lake and hills in the distance. The room is huge but the atmosphere was very nice and cosy, due mainly to the huge open fire in the centre. Once again, the service was faultless. The food - we selected Sunday roasts - was also very good. They allow dogs which is also good for us. Plenty of room in this particular restaurant so no one even noticed that we had two dogs with us. A really good experience, we will be back.

We were beautifully greeted and shown to our table by Lewis who also recommended a nice bottle of wine. Next, we were greeted " Hi Guys " by a young lady with the wine. I was a little taken back by this greeting but apparently she was Australian. A most charming lady in a black dress then took our order. The English mozzarella and tomato salad was amazing and my husband loved his pate which was served by another young man who also greeted us with " Hi Guys " He certainly was not Australian. We then went on to roast beef for my husband and I had the wild duck which was very tasty. According to my daughter I should not object to being addressed as a guy but, "Hey ho" I am a mature lady dressed up for an outing. However, I will give you excellent feedback as the lunch was very good. Thankyou Lewis for your kind attention.

Went for dinner with friends. An absolutely excellent evening all round - a lovely dining room with a gorgeous view, and tables nicely spaced out - not too crowded together. Nice décor. Staff very welcoming and friendly without being over the top and ingratiating. Totally excellent dinner - sea bass, beef in red wine, rabbit pithivier with a jug of tasty gravy - all top-rate. Nice dessert menu with interesting ice-creams. Fabulous (if a bit expensive) wine list - featuring a choice of seven or eight dessert wines - amazing! Lots of really good wines available by the glass, too. No pressure from the staff to eat and get out - all wonderfully relaxed. The bill for four of us was under three figures - exceptional value for the quality of what we'd had. I really can't recommend this restaurant too highly!

We were staying at the attached hotel and were convinced to book for an evening meal by the agent that took the booking by telling us that the restraunt was almost fully booked, that was untrue as the dining room was nearly empty when we had dinner. The wine list is quite extensive ranging from house wines through to specialists bottles. The waiting staff are very professional and attentive. This is not a restaurant for carvery type meals, it most definitely is a fine dining establishment, having said that you can get a 3 course meal, with wine and coffee for 2 persons for £82. We have eaten here several times but I am afraid that we were left disappointed on our latest visit today. We arrived slightly early for a 1:15 booking but then waited a long time for someone to take our food order. At 1:35 after attempting to attract attention I went o the bar to ask if someone could take our food order. The waitresses seemed more interested in chatting to each other. They did get our order right , unlike several items for people on tables either side of us.For the cost the food today was somewhat underwhelming, the poorest we have had here. We were considering ordering a dessert but we're not especially impressed by the menu and anyway no one seemed much interested in taking our order.I did comment, when asked , but my comments were not well received. I was not complaining about the wait for the main course but was told that if they had taken our orders earlier we would have had longer to wait, I could have said what if we wanted a starter. But it seemed pointless to drag out leaving as it was plain the staff could not have cared less.Maybe it was an off day but Coniston needs to pay some attention to staff training. Finally a word of warning, the restaurant does allow dogs and there were quite a few in, sadly theone next to us broke wind several times and the smell was very unpleasant

We have eaten here twice now and on both occasions have had really poor service! The food is fine when they bother to give you there precious time. Having tried this twice now I will not eat here again, it really has been the poorest service we've had in what looks like a nice restaurant in a lovely location. The view over the lake is terrific. There is a chap who seems to be in charge of the service who runs around being most terribly busy but doesn't seem to want to actually make the experience a pleasant one. Booked for lunch for eight people as an early Golden Wedding celebration. The restaurant is large and airy, with a superb view over the lake and we were seated at a circular table right by the window.Service is quietly efficient and as friendly as you wish. Although there was evidently a wedding going on, it didn't affect the relaxed ambience of the restaurant in any way. Food excellent with prices on the top side of average for lunch, and portions more than adequate. Never seen Yorkshire puddings quite so large....We started with mixed 'nibbles' - olives, breads with oil and vinegar dips, and some sausage pieces to die for - cooked in a honey glaze.Mains of fish pie, roast beef (more like steaks, cooked to perfection) and sea bass were all well received - and a selection of tasty desserts, from strawberry cheesecake to sorbets and ices were impossible to resist. Smooth, delicious coffee completed an extremely pleasant lunch and we worked off our excesses with a walk around the lake - well, part way at least! How some of our party managed tea and scones on the patio later in the afternoon, I have no idea! But they did and enjoyed them just as much. Would love to try the accommodation here, as well as the Spa and perhaps one of the 'experiences' offered. There's falconry, angling and various 4x4 driving trails.

The restaurant has two distinct dining areas, it has a lot of character and the addition of a piano being played during the meal adds to its charm. The extensive menu offers a superb range of fine dining which is served by very professional staff.

We ate in the restaurant on Sunday night. We liked the room, the fire and the ambience. The starters were great however the main course was a real let down we had the pheasant burgers they were tough and over cooked. The waiter was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.

We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated at our table as staff continued to work around us collecting dishes. When we eventually were taken to our table we were not even offered a wine list. We then had to request a wine list only to have to ask again. The food was very good but the extremely poor service overshadowed our evening and will not be returning. There was not even an apology so I will be taking my regular custom elsewhere.

Excellent quality food & service provided by the chefs & hard-working staff. We enjoyed a 3 course meal as part of our ' Dales Dash ' package offered as part of an accommodation package by the hotel. The 3 course signature menu is normally a very reasonable £34 per head. I started with Mushroom soup & my wife the pate , followed by fillet steak ( £5 supplement ) lamb rump , finished with cheesecake & trifle All cooked to perfection & then finished off with the cheese board & port at an extra cost but well worth it. We also had breakfast in the same restaurant , again really good quality & all ingredients locally sourced.

Food on offer is delicious with plenty of choice - some advice - if you love sticky toffee pudding then this place is a must and ask for extra toffee sauce (this comes in a pouring hug).

We stayed at the Hotel on Saturday 7th January and had originally booked to eat in the Huntsman Lodge for our evening meal. As a fantastic surprise my partner cancelled this reservation and booked us into Macleods restaurant instead. WOW, I was super impressed. The ambiance of the main restaurant was lovely. The galley end of the restaurant was a little more noisy and seated some larger groups of guests. Myself and my partner was seated in the main restaurant near to the bar and the kitchen doors. This didn’t spoil our enjoyment one bit. The live pianist was a fantastic touch and I was really impressed that when my partner asked if he did requests he was told yes. I never knew ‘Scouting For Girls’ could sound so good with a classical twist. The tables were set out beautifully and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The menu was very varied, many Game options and lots of fish dishes. We made our selections, then we were served with a Wild Mushroom Amuse-bouches. it was Delicious!! I selected King Scallops as a starter and they were simply beautiful and I would highly recommend them. I ordered the Fillet Steak as my main, after a couple of minutes I was informed that unfortunately it was no longer available but an alternative (sirloin or rump), was offered and an offer of a complimentary glass of wine was also made, by way of an apology. My partner had the boneless Grouse, neither of us had a dessert as the two courses were more than enough. When served with a selection of well cooked vegetables. The food was fantastic, the ambiance was simply perfect. The whole evening was very special and worth every penny of the cost. I am so pleased we ate at Macleods and not The Huntsmans Lodge as it made our meal very intimate and our first stay ay Coniston Hall Hotel that little more special. I would highly recommend Macleods Restaurant to anyone and we will certainly be dinning there again.

We stayed for two nights on the 5th and 6th of January 2017. We went to celebrate my husbands birthday and try the shooting ground out. The hotel room was comfortable and clean with enough space inside and a terrace outside, which would be lovely in summer. We ate in both resteraunts and the food was delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked. As foodies we both appreciated the effort the kitchen put in. All the staff were lovely, professional and friendly. The wine list was small but excellent.

This restaurant is adjacent to the Macleod Bar and is handy for a more intimate meal than The Huntsman restaurant. The service is excellent, as is the food and all requests are dealt with quickly and quietly. Ideal for smaller gatherings.

Ate here for a special celebration with friends. Beautifully set table and plenty of helpful staff to serve. Fantastic food beautifully presented. I had the lamb which was perfectly cooked to my taste and all our guests thoroughly enjoyed all they ate. Lovely touch to have a pianist playing which was not intrusive in the least. Full dining room indicates its popularity. We had a meal allowance included in our package but with a £34pp allowance there was plenty of selection to choose from which was for 3 courses followed by coffee and lovely chocolates. Couldn't fault it. Well done Coniston Hall

I gave a 2 star review some time ago, when we had 'afternoon tea' in The Huntsman at the Coniston, as we were so disappointed on that occasion. However, the Manager did contact us and sent us some vouchers as an apology for our disappointing experience, which we used in Macleods. The food was first class and deserves a 5 star for quality and service but for me personally a 4 star for choice/selection; however that is down to individual taste. We are regular customers and our previous poor experience with the Afternoon Tea did not deter us from going back because we had been regular customers for several years.Certainly deserves a 5 star for location, service and attention. However, I have given it a 4 star for all round experience, which says it is very good and we cannot give 4 and a half.

Stayed at The Lister Arms for a couple of nights mid week. We stayed in the Lister Barn which is a 2 minute walk from the actual pub. Cosy and warm, tastefully decorated with lovely toiletries - a real gem of a place. The main pub is really cosy, with a gorgeous fire burning all day and evening. Breakfast and dinner here were both really good with large portions. Lots of dogs inside the bar area too which was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

After driving around the Yorkshire Dale's, we were in need of a drink and snack. We came across this lovely little tearoom and we weren't disappointed, quirky and quaint I would say, very friendly, great value for money too.

Fantastic place. Roll with bacon and sausage was lovely. Really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I've been coming here on caving trips for 25 years and always either start or finish the day in Inglesport. Love it. The only thing I'd say... bring back the pints of tea!!! And please don't ever stop doing the tiffin, it is the best on the planet.

On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
