Mackenzies Taunton in Taunton Deane

We have been regulars at mackenzies for a few months now and always stop by for a refreshing drink or a lite bite, the staff are always so friendly and welcoming!

The owners clearly do not want customers. Awful service, awful food, miserable unknowable staff. Think black pudding is veggie?!

Popped in for lunch at Mackenzies lovely building and location unfortunately massively let down by the coffee and food, my wife and I both had the iced mocha and was given what I can only describe as warm dishwater with ice in it, I also had the steak sandwich which was ok but some of the steak was grisly, I also had chips which weren’t great, such a shame this place could be so much better.

A pub in town that closes at 9.00pm! beyond belief. I had a meal where the chips were dark brown, looked like they had been re heated more than once, burger was OK

Came in on sunday with my family for food and drinks. Great service the gent on the bar was very polite. The food was outstanding burgers were lovely and juicy Will definitely visit again

I have never been treated so badly. Beware the con of 4 pint pitcher deals. We ordered a 4 pint pitcher of Amstal. Cheaper than buying 4 individual pints. But was charged for 4 individual pints. We didn't realise this till we got home. I emailed but when I got no response we went in. We talked to a guy behind the counter and basically he said there was nothing he could do. His manager would have to look at the cctv and check what we ordered. We didn't have a receipt as they never gave one. He said that many people don't ask for a pitcher and get charged for 4 individuals; so implying that I had done this. We felt like a criminal. We left quite shocked and angry. £5.35 is what I was overcharged and at present I haven't had a refund or a reply to 2 emails. We will never go back.

We had booked a family meal at a different local pub restaurant that we had visited before because my in-laws and hubby are very fussy eaters. We received a call saying that their had gone home I’ll and they weren’t serving food anymore. We looked at many other restaurants but several were closed or served food that wasn’t suitable. In the end we went to Mackenzies in hope and desperation. It was rather busy with a big birthday party and a Hen night in progress. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, they helped find a quieter table for us with room to have Dads mobility scooter nearby. (He can’t walk more than a few steps). The young lady behind the bar was very accommodating, she suggested we order child’s meals as they were more simple with no sauces or spices. The food arrived very quickly and was fresh hot, delicious and well presented. All the staff were incredibly busy but still found the time to check on us regularly whilst we ate our meals. The food was excellent value and we will definitely go back there the next time we visit Taunton.

Originally ordered rack.of ribs and paid on the app.. 10 mins later got told that they were no longer on the menu as new menu coming put following week. Should've been taken off the menu and the app. Ended up ordering something I didn't really want. Order fi ally came out after friends had finished eating. Bacon was nearly no existent and burnt and chips were rank. Wouldn't recommend food here

Stay clear of this place. Rude/slow staff. The price of drinks depends on how drunk they think you are and when you question the staff they have no reply. Watch your measures too if you're ordering spirits or wine as they short measure. I will never give my money to this place ever again and have told many people to avoid. Toxic place.

Where do I start! The staff were miserable, unhelpful and absolutely appalling. We booked the venue for a private function upstairs to celebrate my daughters 21st. Within the first hour my youngest daughter (17) was ushered out after being accused of drinking alcohol. She wasn’t even asked for proof of age. On looking at cctv footage you could barely make out that it was her let alone what drink she had in her hand. Now my husband and son in law left too as they refused to stay, so great start to the party. After this we were watched like hawks all night that I actually felt like I was on big brother. I had one child at the party under the age of 18 (age 9) that was sat with his dad. At 9/9.30 the staff more or less pounced on them telling them they had to exit the building as he couldn’t stay. And then to top it all off apparently a party member dropped a glass which smashed on the floor. Next minute the manager who was off duty and clearly under the influence of something came storming into the room pushing party members and placing his hands around someone’s throat. The said manager ended up being locked in an office by his own staff as he was out of control. Believe me you couldn’t make it up. I for one would never step inside this venue again. My daughter was devastated and I was traumatised by the whole ordeal!!

9 of us went for food, it was perfect. A lot of us had steak and was cooked perfectly! Not one thing was wrong. The service was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It had a lovely warm cosy feeling inside and was very clean. Would definitely recommend

Had food and drink on Saturday the 1st July. We were in a group of 8 and sat outside as it was a sunny day. Service at ba very was good and drinks reasonably priced, the food was ok, however the chips were terrible.. while sat out side a staff member parked his car outside pub on public walking area, where kids were playing (silver ish VW) and both times the used car in a short space of time he wheel spun out the public area at speed despite kids playing on scooters. 2nd time he came back at speed and skidded to a stop he was asked as he walked back into pub to moderate his driving to which he became abusive, and one of our party followed him into bar area and challenged him where bar staff got involved very poor behaviour. Point to note both taps in gents toilets were broken!.

We hired the upstairs room for our wedding party and had such an amazing time. Anthony was so good helping us plan the details from the start and suggesting various drinks/food options. On the day Anthony and his team were excellent making sure all guests got welcome drinks and then providing impeccable bar service from 4pm past midnight! They worked so hard and everyone commented how great they were. Our wedding party was amazing and we all had such a good time. Thanks again. Would totally recommend. Emma & Neil 👍🏼

Started off as a reasonably priced place with good food but gone downhill on our last 2 visits. Overpriced for what you get. Ordered 2 doorstop sandwiches which came out on thin white generic bread which was only half toasted so it was very thin and flimsy. Avocado was hard and not ripe. Very disappointing...not "doorstop" at all..was told that was the only bread they had. Similar experience when having breakfast. Only one choice of the same bread. Previously had delicious chunky rustic wholegrain but not anymore. Very expensive breakfast for little quality..such a shame as it has potential. We won't be going back.

Went as part of a group Christmas lunch this week ,some of us had prebooked the Christmas dinner. Our table was booked for 2pm . On arrival it was empty , apart from a guy having a pint. It’s a big place and the interior is stylish and very pleasant , a great place for drinks with a long open bar and great spaces for mixing with a group of friends. A lovely place to go in Summer looking right across to The Castle Hotel. We were due to be seated in an area behind the bar but were offered the chance of any other table (there was a huge choice) , we did move to one looking out the front. A couple of the party were ordering off the menu, but even so a 45/50 minute wait for starters was extreme. The set menu people had pate and / or salmon. Very little thought to presentation. The main courses, well, the person ordering Mac and Cheese with Chorizo got exactly that a dish of pasta , not seasoned, with a little grilled cheese on top (no sauce) just dry pasta with a little melted cheese) with about 5 slices of chorizo on top of the cheese for £11.70. The garlic bread was just toasted bread no garlic… the main course of mushroom risotto was basically a bowl of rice (not risotto rice) with whole mushrooms on top and a bit of Parmesan , interesting. The Christmas dinners also had issues.. the cheesecake as part of the ‘Christmas Meal’ was still frozen. Really appreciate times are tough at the moment but there appeared to be no passion or interest. I would go here for a drink but for food forget it , reduce the menu and get it right or maybe look at a recipe book or focus on being a tapas bar or something similar.

A warning to anyone who might be thinking of booking a table at this pub over the Christmas period DONT. We had a table booked for New Year’s Eve and they rang whilst we were driving there to tell us they wouldn’t be serving food, Take a look at some of the reviews, we probably had a lucky escape. Take a 100 metre walk to Ask Italia, great food great service every time.

really good industrial type vibe with lots of leather sofa's, very clean, shocked at how quiet it was on a Friday night but super friendly bar manager and very nice Prosecco.

Firstly - coffee was great - one star for that But the food was comically bad - mac'n'cheese and garlic bread is hard to mess up but they managed it.
