Machair Bar in Glasgow City

Food was superb! We had the steak pie and mash..it was amazeballs! Don't be put off by the small menu..what they do, they do fantastic. Highly recommended! 5 stars!!!

Booked a table for my son’s birthday. Food was lovely and homemade. Service was warm and friendly. Food & drinks reasonably priced.

Can't really rate the food as we didn't try it. However this is the best bar on the Great Western Road. Good selection of beers, great selection of whisky and really good staff. Whisky and others spirits served well and a great atmosphere. We will be back.

Was there for drinks only but the staff and service were excellent

England v Scotland rugby. The bar was rammed. We’d driven 3.5 hours to get here so reserved a table to ensure seating and eating ahead of a gig. There was a mix up and we were told we had cancelled our table. We hadn’t. After showing Carly our very last minute checking that it was all still on, and a convo chain with no cancellation, Carly was able to find us a table. She took our order quickly, food served quickly, even the veggie burger that was on the online menu but not the bar menu, and even offered us a round on the house for the hassle. Her response was fabulous. Our food was fabulous. Our visit was fabulous. We’ll definitely be calling on them again.

First visit to perform as guest singer at Tea Time Blues on a friday. Lovely venue, cozy warm atmosphere. Great food and friendly staff. Win,win all the way. Have visited many times now. still a great venue. There is a new menu now which is fine but has unfortunately dropped off a couple of personal favourites steak pie and loaded fries with Black Pudding and haggis pieces .Tonight i did enjoy one of the new items Deep fried Cauliflower florets in korean sauce. Very delicious indeed. Months on and Machair continues to be a great venue with lovely food and music most nights of the week. Always a joy to perform there. Must have one of the best selections of whisky in the city. Great atmosphere. One of my top go-to pubs in Glasgow. Christmas dinner special today beautiful turkey with all the Trimmings and Venison Wellington with cranberries.😏 Unfortunately, there has been a recent change. Music gigs have had to be cut back cos of the current greed of energy, fuel and especially food suppliers. Despite this Machair is still an outstanding venue with great food. Alas, music is only the last friday of each month now 6.30 till 9.30 pm🥺 First visit of 2024, pub as good as ever. Very busy tonight.

Lovely pub with craft beers available although I only noticed 1 independent craft tap available. Fish and chips were good and although the haggis starter was well presented the whole combo was fairly tasteless to me. Great wee spot though with good service

I wonder what happens when you order one of the whiskys from the very top shelves. Didn't like bathroom layout. Lovely place though. Great pillows and lots of space.

Didn't have food. But what a night at the machair. Blues music playing live right in front of you in the bar. Amazing band on. Great pint of Heineken. Definitely the best pint in the west end. Bar staff were all welcoming and very friendly. I had a great night and I will definitely be back.

Very nice bar, pleasant staff Only visiting friends in Glasgow

Cracking wee bar with fantastic food, a great selection of drinks and live music. Couple of guys pitched up next to us with an accordion, guitar and a fiddle and they set an amazing atmosphere for the bar. Live music is something far and in-between you find in Glasgow these days so I'm very welcome to more bars doing this.

Great atmosphere, good live band were playing and plenty of tables and games you can play whilst having a drink

Show up for the Trad sessions (currently on Tuesdays). I've been all over Ireland, even play fiddle myself, and this is one of the best I've heard. Not as crowded as it should have been! Food was solid, too.

Fun tursday night with live misic!

Public House situated on the North side of Great Western Road not far from Kelvinbridge and about 5 minutes walk from the Subway station. Good choice of drinks and an excellent menu. Tried the Machair burger and can't fault it. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable and pleasantly accommodating. Lovely food and a great range of beers and whiskies. Live music too on some Friday evenings.

Visited the Machair Bar for some Saturday lunch after a recommendation from a family member. The venue is great, very welcoming and the food was indeed fantastic in terms of 'pub grub'....beautiful pint of Guinness as well tbf! Our only gripe was that it was quite chilly for the duration of our visit which made it a little uncomfortable.

This one is simple. Nice little pub. Amazing music in the background. Great staff. But here is the clincher. What an amazing pint of Guinness! I have ordered several en route to the Shish Mahal around the corner from Machair. The team behind the bar are to be applauded for their ability to pour perfect pints of Guinness one after another, week after week. Beautiful! Relaxing! Perfect!

One of the best pubs in the west end. Great value for money, drinks selection and delicious well priced food. Lovely staff, who also happen to be great at predicting football scores! Never disappoints.

One of the best bowls of Cullen skink I have had. And one of the friendliest and most smiley waitresses to have served me anywhere.

Dog friendly. A very inviting, cosy, dog friendly gaff. Brilliant staff coupled with a massive selection of drinks. Food is outstanding, really shocked at the quality and value for money. Will be back for sure. Definitely worth a visit on a trip down Great Western Road

The mac a cheese needs a wee bit more cornstarch, wee bit watery. But generically food lovely. And staff where very friendly.

It's been about half a dozen different pubs over the years and I've liked them all. Great beer selection and a good atmosphere when it's busy.

A recent find. Great pub, lovely staff. However, their chef is amazing. Great menu, all freshly made to order. Absolutely yummy. Booked to go back later this month and I can't wait!

Not as much local beer on tap anymore, mostly Heineken brands. Very sad. Would love to see a locally brewed modern hazy pale on tap.

Very expensive for average food

Every member of the staff were kind and on top of things. The food was incredible! Giant portions for a great price! I had the steak sandwich which was so massive I had to take it home. My fiancé had the steak pie and it was so tender and juicy and the gravy tastes like grandmas! There was a live band there when we went on Tuesday and it made for a fun and lively night!

Atmosphere was pleasant, drinks not unreasonable for Glasglow but rather quiet for a Friday evening. Live music was a welcome addition in the background.

Last friday was a new experience for me. First visit to Machair Great Western Rd.to make a guest appearance with Fraser Lindsay's blues incentive. This is a beautiful lounge, great decor with a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. The food is wonderful, on this occasion i had loaded fries, similar to Canadian Poutine.This consisted of a huge hill of fries topped with haggis and black pudding pieces, crispy bacon pieces and chopped spring onion,all smothered in a rich pepper sauce. It was really delicious and a mighty portion.A steal at only £7.95. Situated a 3 minute walk from Kelvinbridge subway this is an eating and drinking experience well worthy of your attention.

Staff, no great in the beer knowledge. Smokers takeover. Went inside. Quiz guy, came in music blaring. Background music already playing in pub pleasantly. Waitress spilled flat white coffee, cold gad to be returned. Unlikely to return.

2/5 The bar itself is nice - nothing fancy but nice and comfortable. The food and drinks themselves were really nice however the waiting time was ridiculous. We were in on a Saturday it wasn’t even that busy - we waited 20 minutes for a cocktail each and then another 20 minutes for another round…if you’re not in a rush then might be ok.

Addicted to their loaded fries, which is basically just chips n cheese with a magic special (burger) sauce. What was once a very limited menu has been greatly expanded, too. Looking forward to trying it out.

Attended here with family for a few drinks, and thoughly disappointed. Ordered 5 drinks, to be served 4. We asked when 5th drink would be served, to be told bar was very busy, which we accepted. One of our party accidentally spilt drink, to which we were told would be replaced: We were then greeted with bar man, to approach our table. Stating he had heard us saying to server about our drinks, & he was very busy & only person serving at the bar. His manor was very unprofessional & ubrupt. & off putting. We were then also approached with replacement drink & charge, despite never asking for this. Only making server aware we had spilt the drink. I understand the bar may be understaff & have difficulties through difficult times, I do however do not feel this is a excuse for poor customer service.

Wouldn't recommend the afternoon tea at all I'm afraid. Staff were lovely and accommodating. The dogs were very much welcomed though, which was an added bonus!

Brilliant selection of whiskies and helpful staff. Ideal for a peaceful afternoon drink.

Very handy for The Stand, the best restaurant we’ve found nearby. This feels like a real find! Seems newly decorated, lovely wood and tartan decor (subtle tartan not full blast tourist levels). Interesting menu with multiple vegan and veggie options. The focaccia with hummus was delicious, as was the portobello mushroom cheeseburger with skinny fries. They were happy to do starters as mains as well if you’re not that hungry (or just want to mix and match and try loads of dishes!). Table service, no uniform/name badge to identify the staff easily but they’re friendly and efficient. One warning - the kitchen was very slow and it was a quiet night, let them know if you’re in a hurry or allow loads of time. Reasonable prices, 3 starts, 1 main and 2 soft drinks for £26 which felt like good value. Suggestion for the owners: pop a menu outside. It’s not clear looking in that you do food and there are several ‘drinks only’ places nearby. We nearly went past you, glad we didn’t!

Visited on Friday early evening. Place was busy but staff were friendly and efficient. Food was kinda pub grub but done very well. Good value, good food, good staff and very reasonable - particularly for the west end! We'd definitely go back.

Came here for Xmas dinner. A big thank you to the staff for giving up their day. Everything was absolutely delicious and the portions very generous. Fab experience.

I have just had an excellent mea;l at Machair on Great Western Road. It had been a long day speaking at events in Edinburgh, and I needed a good meal. Machair provided that. Tbe duck was excellent as was the chocolate confait (or whatever the menu called it). The only caveat is that you may not like Scottish folk music, in which case more fool you.

So it doesn't matter if it is your birthday, this is just a great place for a drink or a very very good feed, their Sunday menu is one of the best you can get. The staff are lovely too, simply this is probably the best place to go in Glasgow... ☺

We had purchased an itison voucher for afternoon tea. We were greeted warmly by a lovely young man who was attentive and friendly. The afternoon tea itself was fresh and delicious with a great variety of sandwiches and cakes. Amazing value for money. Even though it was quiet at the time we went in, it had a lovely warm and inviting atmosphere about it. We'll definitely be back.

We loved our afternoon tea. The sandwiches were fresh with delicious fillings. The scones were light as a feather, and the cakes were absolutely scrummy. Service was excellent, the only drawback was the lack of heating, we all felt cold.

On a wet Friday we arrived at Machair Bar looking forward to a delicious tea. We were slightly early for the afternoon tea we had booked with Itison. The bar lacked any atmosphere and even although staff were very attentive the coffee was given by the cup and was cold. The waitress apologised and said they had a new coffee machine. A second cup arrived but this time it was very strong and bitter. I asked for hot water .This time the waitress offered a cappuccino so I was delighted. However again the coffee was cold! The afternoon tea was nice enough for the money but I wouldn't go back.

This place changes its name so frequently that I thought Google was mistaken in prompting me to review. Ah! The name change must be an attempt to usurp The Hebridean which has opened across the road!! Nonetheless, the name may change but somethings remain the same e.g. dog friendly and serves a good range of beers. On our last visit, service was slow but, unprompted, they recognised that fact and discounted the price.
