Macellaio in Kensington and Chelsea

Such a disappointing and bad experience here. My boyfriend and I dined here on Valentines Day (we had wanted to go for ages!), immediately we were told there was 1.5 hour limit on the table which felt rushed. They had clearly tried to pack bookings in leaving limited time for dining. We ordered wine and steaks, the tap water took 40 minutes to come to our table, with the wine coming after 50 minutes, this was also after we had waved and got their attention. Really terrible service with our table clearly ignored. The steaks came at a reasonable time, they were nice but probably not worth the price point (sides are extortionately priced and we live in Kensington). We then waited expecting to be brought a dessert menu which never came, only our waitress who proceeded to ask if we wanted the bill as the time was up. I expressed immense disappointment in the level of service and that we had not even been asked for dessert, she apologised and gave one to us on the house. Felt we were ignored the entire time and ruined what was meant to be a nice evening. For the price point this restaurant commands I seriously would AVOID. South Kensington has some beautiful restaurants and this is not it. The male waiter is incredibly rude and condescending and they add the tip to your bill without asking. Really crap and disappointing for a £150 + meal

Fantastic food, service and ambience! Definite place to go!

Always a pleasure visiting here, especially when after the best steak in a unique and relaxed environment. Today we shared a 1.1 kg Fiorentina between 4 accompanied by tomatoes salad, spaghetti with tomato and basil and broccoli, having had bone marrow, anchovies on toast, and carpaccio with rocket and reggiano to start. Our hostess, Sophia, was first class, bubbly, knowledgeable, and kind (even to our 2 small pooches). Await my next protein fix and will def be back 💯🙏🏾🫶🏾

After a very unusual welcome from the three greeters who seemed to be very focussed on relaying how busy and important they were by generally ignoring us. We were eventually acknowledged and told that our table was told ready as the existing customers hadn’t paid their bill and therefore we would have to wait at the entrance as the bar was occupied and therefore we could not wait there. Eventually our greeter took us to our table and asked if we’d like some water to which we replied yes and no water came. Once we identified our waitress we reordered our water and food at once as she was clearly run off her feet. Her manner under the stress was commendable even though she was overwhelmed with the sheer amount she had on she was professional, polite, courteous and maintained her upselling requisite. It was concerning that all the greeters in suits did not muck in and help the waitress they just scolded her and told her she needed to manage her tables better. The scolding was in front of diners. This was not necessary as she was doing all one waitress could possibly do and it showed extremely poor and unprofessional line management. It was a very clear case of ‘too many chiefs.’ Coming from a food retail background with over 20 years experience as an operations director for a number of high end restaurant groups I could see that the middle management needs retraining in line management, customer service, high volume period management and ultimately realising they are not above any role in that restaurant. Outside of this the food and wine were 5 star and we will come again. I hope this feedback gets relayed in a productive and positive way with a view to improve. The free limoncellos we were given at the end would have been better offered to the waitress that had worked so hard all night and not been appreciated.

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. From the start, the staff was unhelpful, and the overwhelming smell of meat near our table was extremely off-putting. I had specifically requested an indoor table, which they accommodated, but the odor inside was unbearable. Additionally, I chose this restaurant because I believed they offered halal food. However, I was shocked to learn that they cook halal steak on the same grill as non-halal meat, which is not acceptable for those who follow halal dietary guidelines. When I expressed my concerns to the manager and explained that my wife and I no longer felt comfortable dining there, he became defensive and refused to refund our deposit before asking us to leave. Overall, this experience was incredibly disappointing, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Zero Star

Food was amazing. Phenomenal quality beef, fantastic sides, wonderful desserts. Unfortunately, service felt a bit pretentious and not as welcoming as I would have liked, so it put a damper on the experience. I would probably return next time we stay in the area, but I would modify my expectations.

From the moment we arrived, the service was amazing, we were greeted with a glass of bubbles and sat on the butchers table, then had lovely tartare and Parma ham. And then on to the main event, there were 4 of us so we had 1.2kg steak in the bone, it was cooked to perfection.

Macellaio is a beautiful hidden gem in South Kensington. We went there for my fiancée’s birthday dinner and we had a lovely meal and a great night out. The staff are very friendly and charismatic. The chandelier hanging on the table is so eye catching but produces such a natural light within the restaurant. The music level isn’t too loud, me and my fiancée were able to hear each other talk all night. The food is divine, their steaks are without a doubt some of the very finest around. The staff were made it an enjoyable birthday dinner for my fiancée and gave her a delicious brownie after dinner. I would highly recommend Macellaio to any foodie or steak lover, you won’t be disappointed.

Amazing meal / steak Service was exceptional from George and Sophia From the service to the steak, to the puddings nothing could be faulted We came after reading that they also did a separate halal menu and what was lovely to see was that they didn’t just have 1 option but a full range of steaks which was so lovely to have as this is a rare find! We ended up sharing a few different steaks between the table and they all were so tasty! Will certainly be back!

When me and my partner first walked in we were welcomed by all staff they were lovely we had a waitress called Sophia she was amazing and very easy to talk to and is amazing and had another guy sadly didn't get his name but it was amazing, I had the cheese burger and my partner had the steak fillet absolutely amazing couldn't complain about anything will come again!

Some of my favorite items are not there anymore (beef fat candle, tartare with blue cheese on top..), others have a smaller portion for the same price (beef and bone), the British tartare we had was with some sort of blue cheese cream which wasn’t anything fancy, and the Hereford ribeye we ordered was delicious but full of hard to eat bits which kind of ruined the experience… Overall the menu is around 30% pricier. Oh and the restaurant had a fruit flies problem.. I’m a fan of Macellaio, but our last experience was somewhat disappointing..

Food and service was top notch! Our waitress Sofia went above and beyond. Definitely will be back.

Very delicious food. I recommend the 1.2kg’s Tomohawk Steak. It feed our entire family. Great sides (we got the broccoli). Focaccia bread was amazing as well. Good service and good ambiance.

We are regulars here. The manager Gelu (who took over from Luca) was very attentive. His recommendations were great and we really enjoyed everything about the experience. We frequently go to Macellaio when we are craving a little red meat and I think they have the best steaks in London. Surprisingly, the pasta is very good too. They also have an excellent selection of red wine. We went for some of their cocktails like the Boulevardier. For wine we had the moderatly priced Salice but they offer high end Italian fine wines that are a good value for what they are.

Food was good. But was only informed at the door that time at the table was limited to 2 hours and not at the time of booking.

We had a wonderful Christmas dinner for two at Macellaio. The staff were lovely, attentive, and made us feel at home. Great wine selection.

Had a great meal celebrating my daughter’s 21st birthday. Steaks were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing, but the star of the show were the sides - broccoli, carrots and the cherry tomato salad were out of this world. Cozy atmosphere and good service.

I have been leaving in London since 2014 and I’ve come to this place several times in the past. It was 2 year that I didn’t come and I must sadly say the experience was extremely disappointing. The waitress was utterly incompetent, didn’t look at the tables to see nor anticipate customer needs. We ordered 2 glasses of wine, the starters arrived after 20 minutes and the wine was still Not there, after several attempts to be noticed , I have finally managed to get her attention And ask for the wine and she said : Oh both wine are out of stock. So why didn’t you come to letting Us know and choose another wine ?!!!! When the main arrived we asked for an additional bottle of sparkling water, Olive oil, salt and Pepper. 10 minutes for the salt and Pepper so our Fiorentina steak was cold when we eaten it and the bottle of water arrived and of dinner we were ready to ask For the bill. We Provided a feed back and they still charged us the service charge paying bill of £200.00 Unbelievable ! Never ever again. Such a shame :(

Il locale è molto carino e piacevole,il lampadario gigante stupendo.Menu molto interessante,servizio competente e simpatico e qualità alta,soprattutto per gli standard londinesi.Non ho dato un voto più alto perchè i prezzi sono davvero troppo alti.Abbiamo preso 2 antipasti ed una costata da 600 grammi circa,una bottiglia di vino e due di acqua,per una spesa di circa 150 sterline (più di 90€ a testa) ...ci è sembrato un conto eccessivo.

Un gran lugar para comer la mejor carne de Londres. carne de primera calidad. famoso lugar para la carne de fassona. donde la carne se madura en la celda apropiada durante 9 semanas. Hasta la fecha, se han añadido otros tipos de carne de calidad con el mismo proceso. la parte que se encarga de la cocción también es de un buen nivel. excelentes raviolis con salsa de carne y pesto con ñoquis. en el menú también está el típico Recco - tipo focaccia. servicio amable como sentirse en un restaurante italiano clásico. gracias a Anita y todo el personal.

Che bel posto, scoperto un pò per caso. Qué lugar, carne fantástica, perfectamente cocinado en un ambiente italiano encantador. Gran servicio, por Anita y sus colegas, todos hicieron todo lo posible para ofrecernos un delicioso momento en familia. Sin duda una de las mejores experiencias que tuvimos en Londres. Volveremos, seguro.

Ho prenotato il 22 settembre, con molto anticipo visto che ho mangiato lì sabato 2 novembre, e avevo un tavolo per 2 adattato a 4 all’entrata del ristorante. Abbiamo chiesto più volte di abbassare la musica perché avevamo la cassa dentro le orecchie. In più abbiamo chiesto una bottiglia di vino che era nella wine list, ma siccome non c’era il proprietario ci ha dato un’altra etichetta facendocelo passare come un favore…poi abbiamo guardato bene la bottiglia ed era un campione gratuito vietato alla vendita. Peccato che a noi non lo ha “ regalato” ma lo abbiamo pagato!!!

Was everything very nice, just got a bit disappointed that the stakes were cooked in the oven.

Steak was pretty average. Wanted something tangy aged and with some lovely fat. Average tasteless carpaccio and ok rib eye on the bone. Wasn’t bad. Just wasn’t delish.

I booked a table to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and we have been offered a glass of Prosecco at our arrival which made her feel so special! The overall customer service was spot on, from the recommendations to our preferences. It might seem a bit overpriced as for example the green salad. But the overall experience is worth the price. Loved the intimate atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Great first experience at Macellaio. We tried the beef carpaccio and vitello tonnato for starters and they were incredible. Also very good portions. Bread that came with it was just perfect as well. We also had the ravioli and the macaroni al ragu and it blew our heads off. The flavour on the food was superb. To finish, we had tiramisu as dessert and of course, amazing as well.

Food was amazing and the staff friendly. We arrived earlier than our booking time and we were offered some Prosecco and charcuterie while the table got ready.

Came for lunch after visiting the NH museum. Everything was very tasty, fillet & sirloin steaks were very good indeed. Well worth a try if you’re nearby.

Honestly I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. Great steakhouse and great value. The meat is just extraordinary. Wine selection could be wider although it is good. Congratulations !

Went for lunch at 2pm on a Tuesday but surprised that after reading the good reviews the place was empty. Nevertheless the service and food were excellent. One of the best steaks I have had I a long time and I eat a lot of steak! Very friendly service from Antonio. Many thanks.

Perfect from start to finish. The staff weee very welcoming and could not do any more. All the food was perfectly cooked and of an excellent standard. The only addition I wound suggestion would be a non alcoholic beer.

Not cheap , but great flavour steaks , quirky but fun atmosphere. Interesting wine list. We go back on a regular basis.

Food was delicious and delivered very quickly , however I feel the service was not up to par, very formulaic and and impersonal, definitely not what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant of its calibre.

Man, I loved this place. An old friend of mine took me here with a bunch of other of our friends and, dude, I was surprised. Never been here before. Meats that we had, holy cow, those were awesome. Place is somehow odd but it adds to the whole experience. Nice people and atmosphere there. Definitely, will be back :))

First time trying this kind of food, but absolutely brilliant! The parking was easy as you can park on the road right opposite the restaurant and the staff were also amazing. We had the Revolver and some pasta and really enjoyed it!

This restaurant is just Outstanding.We ate here 3 times.The meat we had Revolver and Costata the best.Please try the Tartare ,its something unique If u saved room for dessert u can try tiramisu and i promise u is one of the u will ever tried! Gelu it was the best waiter! Enjoy!

All of us gor badly intoxicated after a dinner at macellaio. Staff was great but we paid 100 pound each to eat few stuff and to get intoxicated. Still sick after fee days. Stay far!

We had a great lunchtime meal here. The food was excellent, staff friendly, attentive ( not too much) and very knowledgeable. despite having a late lunch we were allowed to stay as long as we liked and were not rushed. We enjoyed our meal and definitely will be back. Thanks for a pleasant lunchtime experience.

Personale gentile. Il cibo era buono anche se costoso, a mio avviso, per farvi capire, io e il mio compagno abbiamo preso una tartare e due hamburger della casa, acqua e vino circa 150 sterline. Il vino una bottiglia 36 sterline. La tartare ne l’hanno servita senza nulla quindi ho chiesto di portarmi del pane( forse non sanno che in Italia viene sempre accompagnata da crostini) che mi hanno fatto pagare a parte! Questo è stato un po’ ridicolo!…la cameriera Caterina molto attenta e disponibile, brava!

First, get a booking! Old school london restuarant. Feels like London in the decadant 1960s. Food is very good, drinks are well made, service is exceptional. I had the steak, which was amazing. It is not massively expensive for what you get. Worth a visit

Macellaio is simply fantastic! The restaurant's ambience is very vibrant, with a curious decor. Food is high-quality, especially meats' cut but also the variety of pastas, and a good selection of wines. The crew is very friendly and helpful with any request and/or queries. We were disappointed regarding the taste and the quality of the dishes. Poor value for the money / 120 £ for 2 and no alcoholic beverages ordered . The Pasta was tasteless and the meat was too chewy. Meat was not cooked to perfection as requested. Vitello Tonnato was ok, but mediocre. Not recommended.

I have to admit, I was a little nervous ahead of my visit for a late Thursday lunch: Macellaio RC was one of my favourite local secrets to pop into during the 10 years I lived in Chelsea but I have not been for a few years. Fear not, it is as spectacular as ever. My wife and I shared a ravioli dish to start (mmmmmm) and then 2.5kg of T-bone deliciousness. The Fassona is out of this world - like beef foie gras. What an amazing experience, am so happy they continue to serve such delicious food.

Wow wow, if you don’t like meat or looking at it, you probably want to give it a miss ! However for those meat lovers out there, probably the best steak I’ve ever tasted. Melt in your mouth. The service and decor are first class, will definitely be returning.

The food is worse than last time I went here( 3 yrs ago). We ordered a medium steak but we received a rare. Lot of fat. Definitely not coming back sorry. The waitress was good, that’s why the 3 starts.

Piccolo ristorante di carne a South Kensington Che offre anche piatti della cucina genovese. Per l’antipsto e i secondi , essendo indecisi su cosa scegliere, ci siamo affidati al cameriere che ha soddisfatto pienamente i nostri gusti. Carne morbidissima e davvero unica in Londra: una tappa unica per i non vegetariani.

Locale accogliente e servizio puntuale e professionale. La candela di grasso che sciogliendosi condiva le bruschette una meraviglia. Carne di ottima qualità. Tartare e carpaccio eccellenti. Prezzo un po' elevato (13£/hg) ma adeguato al mercato londinese. Ottima esperienza.
