We recently held our wedding at The Compleat Angler Hotel, and while the location and food were incredible, we were disappointed by several key aspects of the experience. The event manager was unprofessional and dismissive from the start, quickly passing us off to more junior staff. We ended up dealing with three different coordinators, which created inconsistency. This lack of continuity was frustrating, especially as we had to step in and recheck seating plans and food orders on the day of our wedding – something no couple should have to do. The most disappointing aspect was the handling of our wedding cake. It was butchered when cut, leaving us unable to save any to send to family members who couldn’t attend. Additionally, two of our close family members were charged extremely high rates and were told they weren’t on our party list, so they didn’t receive the agreed discounted rate. Despite raising this, the hotel refused to rectify the situation. While The Compleat Angler Hotel is a beautiful venue, the food was second to none and the boat trip was lovely, the poor management and lack of customer care left a sour taste in our mouths. For such an important day, we expected better and wanted to share this honest review so future couples can be aware of what to look out for.

PARKING ADMIN - Attended a Wedding recently here, Please be warned parking here is required to logged on some form of iPad to prove you were guests, I and other guests saw no signage for this nor was prompted by anybody. I now have the stress of £170 fine for some admin created by the Hotel. I have asked the hotel for help as the company fining company have passed it on to Bailiffs but they they have said I need to write a letter to UKPC. A lot of Admin for something I am not guilty of as I was a guest. The wedding was lovely.

Can't beat the location. Room was fine although balcony door and balcony were tatty. Room service was poor, wouldn't take a dinner order at 7pm and just passed my call to the restaurant who didn't pick up. Tried to order coffee on the water side at 10am and was told it was too early to serve drinks in the garden, a manager going off duty stepped in. Room reserved with breakfast only to be charged £6 extra for scrambled egg and a small amount of salmon while the full English was fully included. I've always liked the Angler but it's losing it.

During a family day out, we decided to have afternoon tea and were drawn in by the lawn's beautiful views of the bridge and church across the river. However, the experience was underwhelming. The service and food were average, and the cost was exorbitant—over £180 for four people, including a 12.5% service charge. I wouldn't recommend it. In the future, I'd opt for a picnic from a local shop, as Marlow offers plenty of other charming spots to enjoy the scenery.

I spent the day at this venue as it was my son's chosen venue for his wedding. I'm a disabled driver and parked in one of the two disabled parking spaces. I spent the day enjoying my son's wedding even though this place is not very disabled friendly. Every time I wanted to go outside I had to have a flimsy metal ramp put down to get from the rooms to the outside. I'm gluten intolerant and my son specifically asked for gluten free food to be prepared for me. This I'm sure would have cost him a lot of money. I was given food that I was told was gluten free. I started to eat the food and was then told not to eat it as it wasn't gluten free. I was then left with no food and had to wait for random items to be bought to me one at a time. I had no idea what I was being given. I didn't want to say anything as I didn't want to upset my son and his wife. I returned home to then have a parking ticket sent to my house. I obviously ignored this as there is no signage on the disabled parking,my son had already asked if there was parking for his disabled mother and was told there was parking available. No one said anything about having to pay for the parking or to let anyone know we had parked in one of the spaces. The first letter told me I owed £60 if I paid straight away. I didn't pay so I then received another letter telling me it is now £100. I also was not going to pay that. I have now received a letter telling me it's £170 and it has been handed over to a debt collection company and if I don't pay it will go to court. I'm registered disabled and have a brain injury from illness. I have to live on benefits and this is how this company operates. No doubt my son would have paid a fortune for his wedding as I purchased a small bottle of water as it was about 30 degrees and very hot at a ridiculous cost of £4.50. Anyone who visits this location should be made aware of how they treat their customers.

The hotel is generally described as one of the best hotels, but the drawback is that it is a small room and there is no toilet, and the restaurant has very limited meals that do not rise to the level of this hotel. In terms of cleanliness and room service, it is very excellent, and all the employees of Indian nationality were wonderful in their treatment and service. I also cannot fail to mention the employee, the girl who I expect is of British nationality, who served us. I carry the bags, and there is an employee of African nationality who dealt with us very badly. Thank you

A beautiful hotel setting unfortunately ruined by shoddy and subpar slow service and fairly average overpriced food, when you are spending the prices they charge you expect a certain high level of service which simply doesn’t happen, as it stands I could get better service and probably better food at any pub on Marlow High street. We had both dinner and breakfast here and both were very disappointing. The rooms again are nice but do not justify the price. Really would not recommend this hotel unless it’s for drinks.

A little slice of heaven in the UK! Stayed here for a wedding which was beautiful & well catered. The staff were incredible! The location is like being in the south of France & located on the river is perfect for relaxing on a summers day. The rooms were well done but some issues with lack of lifts for certain access requirements was a pain but swiftly resolved.

Beautiful location on the river surrounded by lovely English gardens. Unfortunately the hotel is a bit run down and has some challenges to support business travelers. There is almost no cellular service and in many rooms there is no wifi connection. For the price I would have expected better amenities in the room and some refresh of the carpets, bathrooms, etc. We all enjoyed the dinner there and the breakfast is really abundant. Prices for drinks at the bar are incredibly excessive and they don't even offer nuts or crisps to enjoy with your drinks.

If you want a nice surrounding then this is a great stay, if you want any level of service AVOID. This has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in for service. They are understaffed, the staff seem to have no direction & very little training. The food in the riverside restaurant is just tasteless, when I asked for Worcester sauce I was told they had none in the venue, yet I saw it behind the bar later. When I asked how the Shepard’s pie was made they said they didn’t use it. No draft beers inside & you are told to “go & get it yourself” from outside. I would not recommend.

My wife and I had the pleasure of eating at The Riverside Restaurant yesterday. The food, view and service were top notch and I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. After our meal we went outside to the beer garden where we were served by a lovely barman and once again the view was to die for. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be recommending to my friends and revisiting in the future!

Such a wonderful location! The hotel is situated right on the river Thames and is utterly charming. It is walking distance to the high street and most rooms have views over the river. You recieve a warm welcome when you arrive and check in was very smooth. The rooms are also charming but very tired and in need of a bit of a refresh. I spent 5 nights at the hotel and the housekeeping was average. Soap was not replenished, dirty glasses were left next to the bed and the in room dining breakfast menu disappeared after day one. Room Service was non existent after day one too with the phone just ringing out. The restaurant outlook is beautiful as it is right on the river, however the service was inconsistent and was dependent on who was working that day as to whether it was good or not so good. The food in the hotel is great and coffee too, they also cater to all dietary requirements which is good. The standout by far was the service from Chandou in the Riverside restaurant who went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect. He was polite and friendly and remembered my name, room number and the food I liked which was incredible given the amount of people he must meet each day. All in all I would still recommend the hotel if you don’t mind its few little quirks.

Excellent location and setting with beautiful breakfast rooms and outdoor courtyard with a view. Good food. The downsides are hopeless staff and amenities Toilets don't flush probably due to old drains We had shampoo, conditioner, shower gel we were still using in the shower room but the housekeeping took them all even though they were all more than half full and left no new ones. So bad for the environment. Called reception, concierge and room service to get shampoo etc as I was about to have a shower and no one answers in any of the lines So bad to go down to reception in the end. Breakfast we ordered and 4 staff repeatedly came to our table to take the order after we put in the order and ever time we had to explain we ordered. The breakfast arrived after 40 min. Breakfast staff are also incredibly slow to clear the tables and bring new cutlery and had to wait 10min before we could sit down to have breakfast It just seems a poorly managed hotel

Popped in to the bar on Monday morning for coffee in our way to lunch. Place immaculately presented and good attentive staff. Only after arriving home in London late that afternoon, did I realise I left a designer bag containing my passport, iPad and over £2k in Mont Blanc pens on a chair and left without it. I’m calling the hotel I was assured that the staff had picked up my bag and kept it stored safely until I collected it that evening. Once I arrived, I was expected and my bag was fully in tact. Compleat Angler staff were honest, helpful and brilliant. Restored my faith in customer service. Thank you to all of the team there.

Lovely setting to have a meal, incredibly poor service. Time and quality aren't on the menu when it comes to this resuraunt. Everything is slightly too much for their wait staff. It is somewhat rescued by the kitchen as it was a very enjoyable meal, however, you would expect it at those prices. £250 for 4 people after removing service charge out of principle. Won't be going again.

The Complete Angler is in a lovley location on the Thames at Marlow. Access over the bridge can be a little daunting if in a large vehcle, to limit vehcles to under 3.5 Tons width restricors are in place at both ends of the Bridge. The staff at the Complete Angler are an absolute credit to the managment and Macdonalds. To a person, welcoming friendly very eager to please, and help ensure your stay is enjoyable and to your satisfaction. The only negative was once in our room it felt a little tired and the bathroom was not up to the standard you would expect at a Macdonald hotel. But I must enphasise the exeptional quality of the staff be they in the resturaunt bar reception or housekeeping.

The Function team on the night, lead by Mo, couldn't have been more attentive and professional. Rashid and the bar team went out of their way to make everyone feel looked after, many of our friends and family mentioned this. Raj and the restaurant staff, and Chris the Concierge made us feel welcome when we were checking out the venue early on and during our overnight stay. What a shame. We got placed on a table that seemed to form part of the kitchen, worktops with various ingredients, bits and pieces all within reach. A very uncomfortable situation to enjoy a meal. But worse than this was whom I can only assume was the manager, as he wasn’t in the usual Pizza Express uniform, instead he had very ill fitting trousers that revealed his bright red Calvin’s, that were on show every time he bent down or climbed the stairs, sometimes even revealing a lovely bum crack. A view not helped by the 30+ minutes wait between the starter and pizza. Not the best experience we’ve had in a Pizza Express in the last 30 years or so! Other than the above the food was up to the usual very high standards that we’ve come to expect from Pizza Express

Highly recommend! Accommodated a table of 14 with 24hrs notice. A slight wait on food but they advised us of this and to be honest as a table of 14 we didn't really notice. Food was well presented and very tasty. We all looked at the Christmas menu and if it wasn't a 3hr drive for some of us we would have been booking in!! Amazing find!!
