We chose this hotel as it was walking distance to the many pubs and restaurants of Marlow. The location is excellent on the Thames, but over the bridge from Marlow so it almost felt like a country retreat. The room although a little tired in places was still great. We loved the space in the main room meaning chairs could be added, so much nicer than sitting on your bed in a Premier Inn. We hadn t upgraded to a river view so only had a view of the car park, but that wasn t high on our list of needs as we were out and about. The bar although pricey had attentive staff. I can t comment on breakfast as we didn t partake, but appreciated the krups coffee machine and pods in the room.

How many starts would YOU give to a hotel that pre-authorises a 2 night stay (plus £100 for any incidentals) on check-in then puts through a *separate* charge (without my knowledge) on check-out for another 2 nights *without* cancelling / updating the pre-authorisation? I know how pre-authorisations work and this is NOT correct procedure. I've now got 4 nights + £100 incidentals against my credit card limit. Over double what it should be. Anyway, at this point, I was calm, thinking to myself.... this is just a wee error, it is a "luxury" hotel, so a quick call would sort this out? Nope. 1) called 8 times the day after check-out to speak to someone who could sort this out. NO ONE ANSWERED ANY CALL! (I called Thursday 27th Feb between noon and 13:00.... clearly a busy time at reception...) 2) 9th attempt, finally spoke to receptionist. Explained the situation. "Very sorry. The manager will look into this and call you back." 3) Yep, you guessed it. No call back. 4) Called again another three or four times around 16:00 same day before finally someone answered. "I'll transfer you to Macdonald Central Reservations. They'll sort it." Nope. Central reservations tell me: "Only the hotel can sort this. I'll transfer you back to reception..." "No, please don't. They never answer.....". Phone goes dead 30 secs after transferring me back to Marlow. 5) Called again around 17:00. Different receptionist, Different story. "The duty manager knows about this but is not authorised to do a refund. It needs to be manager. We have a process. Unfortunately, the manager is on holiday until tomorrow. Don't worry, it is the first thing they'll do when they get back." (BTW, no apology for the duty manager not contacting me to explain all this and I do find it hard to believe that in a "luxury" hotel, the only person authorised to correct any mistake with the payments system is someone on holiday and that no one has been delegated to deal with such things. ) 6) Next day. Manager is back working, I assume. Still, I've not received a call to apologise. No cancellation of the pre-authorisation. In short: no progress. 7) I have given up calling (frankly, why should I?) and resorted to Google Review to see if this provokes a responce. Oh, BTW, I also tried to contact them via WhatsApp messages as they kindly sent ME messages before check-in. No reply. No acknowledgement. Nothing. So, dear "luxury" hotel. Any comments or do you only respond to good reviews?

The two outstanding features of the hotel are the wonderful helpful staff and the superb riverside location. The stroll across the bridge to the delightful shops and cafes of the high street of Marlow is also a big plus. We dined in the Riverside restaurant and the meal and service (and the view) were first class. Breakfast was as good as it gets and again with superb service. A slight criticism would be that the rooms were very warm even with the central heating turned off and the windows were for safety reasons limited in their opening. The property is old with many staircases and some parts look tired however for value for money and given the strong pluses I would highly recommend.

1)After our little room upgrading issue the final room we were allocated was perfect. 2)We were over charged for drinks but our fault for not raising this with the staff 3)We ordered a £5 portion of nuts to go with our second drinks which quite seriously took the Micky and the staff bought a more realistic size potion. 4)Breakfast service on the first day was excellent but disappointing to see £6 surcharges on 50% of the menu. 5)Our second mornings breakfast was unbelievably slow where the majority of cooked elements took 45 minutes for order to arrival. And we had to ask for extra pasties to be cooked for us. However, The staff were so courteous that you wonder what happened behind the scenes. Would I stay again? Yes I would.

Stayed here for my birthday last year and it is a lovely hotel feels very cosy and the rooms and great, with great views if you are facing the water. It has a beautiful location and is very calming to be around. Staff were very helpful during the stay, had a smooth check in and the reception staff were great and explained all we needed to know. I had a small maintenance issue with my room and Terry came to fix it he was very happy and helpful. Also in the bar we was served by Fanuel who had a little chat with us and was lovely and attentive. We had a great stay and felt well looked after, I even got some flowers and a card from the hotel in my room wishing me a happy birthday which was a nice touch :)

I recently had a delightful dinner at the Bar and was served by Cladwell, and I must say, it was a fantastic experience! We kicked off the evening with a Pornstar Martini and Old Fashion, which was perfectly balanced. It set the tone for a fun night out. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine to pair with our meal, and the staff helped us choose something that complemented our dishes beautifully. For mains, we tried the fish and the curry — both were outstanding! The fish was fresh and flaky, and the curry had just the right amount of spice, making it absolutely delicious 😋. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Overall, I highly recommend Bar Manager Cladwell for a great night out with friends. I can't wait to return!

We recently held our wedding at The Compleat Angler Hotel, and while the location and food were incredible, we were disappointed by several key aspects of the experience. The event manager was unprofessional and dismissive from the start, quickly passing us off to more junior staff. We ended up dealing with three different coordinators, which created inconsistency. This lack of continuity was frustrating, especially as we had to step in and recheck seating plans and food orders on the day of our wedding – something no couple should have to do. The most disappointing aspect was the handling of our wedding cake. It was butchered when cut, leaving us unable to save any to send to family members who couldn’t attend. Additionally, two of our close family members were charged extremely high rates and were told they weren’t on our party list, so they didn’t receive the agreed discounted rate. Despite raising this, the hotel refused to rectify the situation. While The Compleat Angler Hotel is a beautiful venue, the food was second to none and the boat trip was lovely, the poor management and lack of customer care left a sour taste in our mouths. For such an important day, we expected better and wanted to share this honest review so future couples can be aware of what to look out for.

Can't beat the location. Room was fine although balcony door and balcony were tatty. Room service was poor, wouldn't take a dinner order at 7pm and just passed my call to the restaurant who didn't pick up. Tried to order coffee on the water side at 10am and was told it was too early to serve drinks in the garden, a manager going off duty stepped in. Room reserved with breakfast only to be charged £6 extra for scrambled egg and a small amount of salmon while the full English was fully included. I've always liked the Angler but it's losing it.

I spent the day at this venue as it was my son's chosen venue for his wedding. I'm a disabled driver and parked in one of the two disabled parking spaces. I spent the day enjoying my son's wedding even though this place is not very disabled friendly. Every time I wanted to go outside I had to have a flimsy metal ramp put down to get from the rooms to the outside. I'm gluten intolerant and my son specifically asked for gluten free food to be prepared for me. This I'm sure would have cost him a lot of money. I was given food that I was told was gluten free. I started to eat the food and was then told not to eat it as it wasn't gluten free. I was then left with no food and had to wait for random items to be bought to me one at a time. I had no idea what I was being given. I didn't want to say anything as I didn't want to upset my son and his wife. I returned home to then have a parking ticket sent to my house. I obviously ignored this as there is no signage on the disabled parking,my son had already asked if there was parking for his disabled mother and was told there was parking available. No one said anything about having to pay for the parking or to let anyone know we had parked in one of the spaces. The first letter told me I owed £60 if I paid straight away. I didn't pay so I then received another letter telling me it is now £100. I also was not going to pay that. I have now received a letter telling me it's £170 and it has been handed over to a debt collection company and if I don't pay it will go to court. I'm registered disabled and have a brain injury from illness. I have to live on benefits and this is how this company operates. No doubt my son would have paid a fortune for his wedding as I purchased a small bottle of water as it was about 30 degrees and very hot at a ridiculous cost of £4.50. Anyone who visits this location should be made aware of how they treat their customers.

During a family day out, we decided to have afternoon tea and were drawn in by the lawn's beautiful views of the bridge and church across the river. However, the experience was underwhelming. The service and food were average, and the cost was exorbitant—over £180 for four people, including a 12.5% service charge. I wouldn't recommend it. In the future, I'd opt for a picnic from a local shop, as Marlow offers plenty of other charming spots to enjoy the scenery.

The hotel is generally described as one of the best hotels, but the drawback is that it is a small room and there is no toilet, and the restaurant has very limited meals that do not rise to the level of this hotel. In terms of cleanliness and room service, it is very excellent, and all the employees of Indian nationality were wonderful in their treatment and service. I also cannot fail to mention the employee, the girl who I expect is of British nationality, who served us. A beautiful hotel setting unfortunately ruined by shoddy and subpar slow service and fairly average overpriced food, when you are spending the prices they charge you expect a certain high level of service which simply doesn’t happen, as it stands I could get better service and probably better food at any pub on Marlow High street. We had both dinner and breakfast here and both were very disappointing. The rooms again are nice but do not justify the price. Really would not recommend this hotel unless it’s for drinks.

Beautiful location on the river surrounded by lovely English gardens. Unfortunately the hotel is a bit run down and has some challenges to support business travelers. If you want a nice surrounding then this is a great stay, if you want any level of service AVOID. This has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in for service. They are understaffed, the staff seem to have no direction & very little training. The food in the riverside restaurant is just tasteless, when I asked for Worcester sauce I was told they had none in the venue, yet I saw it behind the bar later. When I asked how the Shepard’s pie was made they said they didn’t use it. No draft beers inside & you are told to “go & get it yourself” from outside. I would not recommend.

Such a wonderful location! The hotel is situated right on the river Thames and is utterly charming. It is walking distance to the high street and most rooms have views over the river. You recieve a warm welcome when you arrive and check in was very smooth. The rooms are also charming but very tired and in need of a bit of a refresh. I spent 5 nights at the hotel and the housekeeping was average. Soap was not replenished, dirty glasses were left next to the bed and the in room dining breakfast menu disappeared after day one. Room Service was non existent after day one too with the phone just ringing out. The restaurant outlook is beautiful as it is right on the river, however the service was inconsistent and was dependent on who was working that day as to whether it was good or not so good. The food in the hotel is great and coffee too, they also cater to all dietary requirements which is good. The standout by far was the service from Chandou in the Riverside restaurant who went out of his way to ensure everything was perfect. He was polite and friendly and remembered my name, room number and the food I liked which was incredible given the amount of people he must meet each day. All in all I would still recommend the hotel if you don’t mind its few little quirks.

Breakfast we ordered and 4 staff repeatedly came to our table to take the order after we put in the order and ever time we had to explain we ordered. The breakfast arrived after 40 min. Access over the bridge can be a little daunting if in a large vehcle, to limit vehcles to under 3.5 Tons width restricors are in place at both ends of the Bridge. The staff at the Complete Angler are an absolute credit to the managment and Macdonalds. To a person, welcoming friendly very eager to please, and help ensure your stay is enjoyable and to your satisfaction. The only negative was once in our room it felt a little tired and the bathroom was not up to the standard you would expect at a Macdonald hotel. Hulya made our afternoon tea experience wonderful and the service and quality superb. I’m looking out for offers and vouchers as it is expensive for a family to just drop in for afternoon tea

Brilliant venue to stay, eat and attend events. Service was impeccable, reminding of how service used to be.

I have stayed here before great location, lovely hotel, fab room this time with a lovely view of the river. Just be aware, there is no chance of a night cap as the bar is never open late, but that is not always a bad thing.

Bed was a bit soft and full english breakfast could have been better. Ie back bacon as described rather than fatty streaky

Lovely hotel, room was great. Rather disappointed with the breakfast though, couldn't seem to order what we wanted, got a full English even though we only wanted the scrambled egg and some bacon, and could tell that it wad not freshly cooked to order, bacon very poor. Rather disappointing for the price.

1. If you serve the wrong drink to a customer, apologise and replace it with the correct one. Don't try and cover up your mistake. 2. When you confirm 'it's on the house', don't then charge the customer to see if they notice. That's just dishonest. 3. If you have TVs in the rooms, make sure you have tuned them in and you have a good picture. 4. When you convert a pub and add rooms, make sure that the sound doesn't travel between rooms, and make sure the auto light stays on long enough to use the bathroom. We would've asked for a refund, but there was no one on reception, and we had to let ourselves out of the building. Will we be staying again...erm no. Was it value for money....erm no.

Great pizza. The Romana was perfect, thin & crispy. Better than I ate in Holborn recently. Bruce the manager was lovely he and his team looked after us. Really enjoyed it 🍕🥂
