Ever tried Macau / Portuguese cooking? Neither had we. But this tiny place came highly recommended, and was packed. Luckily we bagged a table and our culinary adventure started. It's impossible to pick a favourite dish from the simply incredible array of flavours. Think of every food you love and multiply it by ten. The chicken pongteh left us speechless, it was so good. Your best bet is to let the lovely manager choose your dishes for you. Desserts are amazing too. Cannot wait to go back.

One of the best restaurants in Edinburg. The flavors are big, different and done with incredible care. Every component of the meal is well thought out and the passion for the food is lovely to say the least.

We booked after reading an Instagram review by Pippa of eatinburgh. Tiny restaurant that packs a huge punch of flavour. The mustard chicken starter we wish we had ordered two of! The Sambal beef and deep fried spicy squid — both specials—were so delicious. The welcome we received from the host was both so friendly as well as informative about the food. Both mocktails were lovely but there is also the offer of BYOB with only corkage to pay. We shall return.

Fantastic hidden gem, 100% worth a visit. Will leave your brain confused will your taste buds go into overdrived. Brilliant food, amazing staff.

Our family loved this gem of a restaurant. Served family style, we tried a variety of dishes that were tasty. Chicken Minchi was my husband's favorite dish and several of us couldn't decide on a favorite. The chocolate dessert was so very good--Yum! In addition to the terrific food, the staff was a delight. From the manager and chef to the waitstaff, everyone was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this excellent dining experience!

Our dinner at Macau Kitchen was the culinary highlight of our recent trip to Scotland. This unassuming and highly decorated restaurant serves amazing Luso-Asian fare, usually found in such places as Macau, Melaka, and Goa. Luso-Asian cuisine might not be that renowned, yet it blends two of the most delicious culinary traditions in the world -- Chinese and Portuguese. Everything we tried was exceptional and we specially recommend the "bolinhos de bacalhau" (salted-cod croquettes) as an appetizer. And for dessert, go for the "pastéis de nata!"

Best food experience so far this year! Amazing food, big flavours. You can really feel the owners and staffs love for their food and culture. They were just a ray of sunshine.

I was in Edinburgh with my wife in mid June for vacation. Our meals at Macau Kitchen took my wife back to her childhood in Hong Kong, where her family would take the ferry to Macau to eat. She was in heaven. Every dish was excellent. The staff in the front of the house is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The vibe in the dining room is awesome. Overall a great experience.

Good food, small restaurant. Mostly asian, probably not so surprised. Nice chef and wife told good stories along with the nice dishes served.

Macau Kitchen is a gem!!! The food is absolutely superb! …freshly prepared with love and passion and with quality ingredients. Every dish on the ever-changing menu is a new adventure!!! Such a welcoming, cosy and ambient place. And excellent value. You can take your own wine, for a very modest corkage fee. It is always such a joy to go there. When I am in Edinburgh I always make it a point to go to Macau Kitchen. Hoegyn at the front of house is always so welcoming …and she remembers each and every one of her guests and greets us like we are family. Keí in the kitchen produces the most amazing food, and occasionally comes into the restaurant to see his delighted diners. It’s like one big very happy family. I love it. I feel like keeping it my secret….but it’s also the sort of place I want to shout from the roof tops about….you’ll love it! Keep doing what you’re doing, Macau Kitchen!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Fabulous food. I just spotted this little gem whilst walking by looking for lunch. I dropped in and although they were fully booked they managed to accommodate me as a solo diner. The serai chicken was a delight- falling off the bone meat and I could taste every flavour in the sauce and vegetables. Everything was freshly prepared from scratch and it was one of the best meals I’ve had for a long time. I was made to feel very welcome with friendly service. Great atmosphere and I will certainly be back.

Waited for 3 months to get here, and it was well worth the wait. Food was different level. Octopus 🐙 starter and Portuguese tarts were the stars of the show for me, but all the food was tremendous! Might try the secret menu sometime!

Third visit to this amazing restaurant already. The staffs were super friendly and the food was amazing. The texture of the roasted chicken is so soft like tasting fish and the sirloin was amazing with sauce. Authentic nata.

What a find! Loved every aspect of it. As per all the other comments, the service from the husband and wife team is so genuinely welcoming. You get such a sense of the pride they clearly take in it. We couldn’t not order the signature crispy duck curry. Even better than I’d imagined especially if you’re a dedicated bone gnawer. The giant snails off the specials board were phenomenal too as was the “polvo” octopus salad. Just go.

Wanted to try this restaurant for some time,so finally got round to it. Was not disappointed from the minute we walked in. It's a small place with only 6/7 table's,so I would recommend booking in advance. The host and the chef(owners) both welcomed us like long lost friends and made us very welcome and explained the menu and specials extensively. We started with the spring rolls,the cod croquettes and crispy duck confee ,all excellent, but the confee soup was a stand out. Soft rice with sweetcorn and contrast of the crispy duck skin, brilliant. On to the mains,spare ribe, which to be honest were a little too sweet for my palate but still very nice. The excellent classic minchi was delicious but the stand out dish was the very spicy chicken with mushrooms, cream and curry leaves,spot on! Finished off with pastel de nata,wow. All in all a great experience, I only wish I had come sooner.

Amazing food, amazing find. We were looking for a Resturant close to the queens theatre and stumbled across this amazing find. This is my first experience eating Macau cuisine. It was truly delicious . We had the spring rolls, the chicken and the prawns. Would definitely recommend it. 😀

been meaning to visit this place for months having lived in Asia for many years.The welcome from the staff was excellent and the menu was explained in an efficient and effective way. The food was excellent although a bit pricey for lunch. The duck congee was excellent as were the minchi and squid dishes. All in all we will return and I can see it being a regular haunt when in Edinburgh.

We loved this buzzy small restaurant. The food on offer is slightly different to the standard fare that so may restaurants provide. It was well cooked and very tasty. Staff were very efficient, friendly and engaging. We would definitely recommend.
