Maaya Indian & Asian Restaurant in Bath and North East Somerset

I visited this Indian restaurant based on its Google reviews, but my experience was nothing like what I expected. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was dull and unimpressive. The service was beyond terrible—slow, inattentive, and unprofessional. The food itself was of very poor quality, lacked authentic flavor, and was simply not enjoyable. But the worst part was the hygiene—or lack thereof. A trip to the restroom revealed just how poorly maintained the entire place is. The cleanliness of the kitchen was also highly questionable, making me wonder how this restaurant is even still operating. We visited with kids, and by nighttime, everyone had stomach aches, which is deeply concerning. On top of everything, the prices were outrageously high for what was essentially a low-standard dining experience. You might be able to overlook bad service or overpriced food, but when it comes to hygiene and health, it’s non-negotiable. If you care about your well-being, avoid this place at all costs!

I had dinner in this restaurant a couple of hours ago. I have been sick twice already and my stomach is still upset. I'm not surprised as this was the filthiest restaurant kitchen floor I have ever had a glimpse of. Even the stairs down to the kitchen and toilets were covered in crumbs and dirt. The smell in the toilets and the actual food arriving a whole hour after ordering was more than frustrating but in retrospect I wish the food didn't arrive at all.

Food was yummy. Stripes and Spice cocktail was one of the better cocktails I’ve ever had. All the food was tasty.

Second visit after a very good visit about 6 months ago. Slightly underwhelming. The food was ok but wasn’t as good as we remembered. Maybe we were expecting a lot as we remember the first visit to be exceptional. We had a few sharing plates they were ok but nothing special. I don’t think £7 for a pint of kingfisher helped the experience. The devilled prawns were good though.

Okay, the worst thing was that the cutlery was rather water stained! If you can put up with that, get ready for the most beautiful moments with every perfect bite... The decor and friendly, helpful staff acted as a backing track to the true art which was the food. I've been back three times and plan to go again! Favourite meal? The crispy lamb with naan to mop it up. My mouth is already watering thinking of it

Very disappointed, as seen positive reviews only. Toilets are disgusting and look like they've never been cleaned. Food was luke warm, and at best average in flavour. Was a very disappointing evening overall.

Don’t sleep on this place! After making an effort to eat at a new Indian restaurant in each city I stay at traveling through England, I can definitely vouch for this place. The food is amazing and lives up to the hype. The owners are also so kind and welcoming it was a pleasure spending time in their restaurant. They really went above and beyond to make sure I had a great experience.

We were out on a Saturday night, met up with friends who have a toddler and limited free time, and decided to go for a curry, booked a table for 4 online only to get there and be told that they had no table available, it was their ‘partner’ online taking the reservation, to treat us with hospitality no apology and a very negative attitude where we had to leave

Authentic and delicious upmarket Indian street food. Great ambiance and decor too with murals handpainted by one of the owners! I got the samosa chaat and will be back for the rest!

They were super helpful in explaining the menu and mtakingh it a super friendly welcoming environment for people who aren't familiar with Indian food. I had the pani puri and the tikka marsala and it was delicious!

Amazing Indian Street food and service. Prateek and Sadhvi were our servers and recommended several small plates that were all excellent. Several were similar to the restaurant chain Mowgli, but better.

The plates were really good and the host are very warm and relax, perfect if you arrive here without knowing anyone in the city!

Unfortunately there was only me and 1 other table in restaurant. Food was fantastic, service was great by Prateek. When over night in Bath, I would certainly use again

Absolutely fantastic food and service.

Fantastic meal before enjoying an evening of entertainment just round the corner. Perfectly located in the centre of Bath equal distance from the transport hub and the entertainment area of Komedia and the Theatre Royal, the quality of food and service is deserving of a 5 star rating. The staff know the menu well and we’re able to advise and we were glad we took the advice offer. I highly recommend this restaurant for quality, friendly service and value for money.

The staff treated us with great kindness, and we were blown away by the designs and food.

We recently visited Mayaa Restaurant as a family of four, and unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with our experience, especially considering the hefty price of £140 for our meal. The noodles we ordered were far from the standard we'd expect at a restaurant of this caliber. They were undercooked, with a crunchy texture that was both unappetizing and frustrating. We couldn't even finish them. As for the curries, they were equally underwhelming. The consistency was watery, and there was barely any flavor to them. We didn’t even bother finishing them, as they lacked the richness and depth that a good curry should have. It felt like a poor attempt at what should have been a hearty, flavorful dish. This has to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had, especially considering the price we paid. For £140, we expected better quality food, more attention to detail, and at least an acceptable level of taste. We left feeling let down, and regretfully, we won’t be returning. It's rare that we leave a review like this, but we felt it was important to share our experience, as we believe that other diners deserve more for what they pay.

Service was outstanding - really friendly staff and food was great. Decently priced, a lovely evening out with lots of options and very vegetarian friendly - crispy lamb was a stand out!

Nipped in here for a meal before going to Komedia. Excellent service and interesting choice of food. Friendly and helpful waiter. Over all a great meal (but agree with other comments that the toilet needs an upgrade)

We walked past and were drawn in by the enticing smells and the food did not disappoint. The paani puri and the paneer butter masala were both excellent as was everything else we had.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about Maaya. I came here in my own d felt in company. Thank you. I ate an authentic paneer masala which was absolutely delicious. Followed by a ‘Paan’ a desert/digestive which cleanses the palate and I tried something g new . Happy diner. Highly recommend. We visitied yesterday from london it was our first time in bath we hoped on to this indian restaurant and we had amazing experience pratik was a wonderful person made us feel warm and welcome had a beautiful conversation with him and not only this but the food was amazing prawns were my favourite even the biryani was mild with flavours and amazing ...will be happy to be back again to this place.

Popped I after visiting the bath spa. Delicious authentic street food. Fresh and flavourful, the paani puri was a delight - an explosion of flavours. Well worth getting several small plates and sharing tapas style.

Food is worst ever i taste in uk , u can see water in the gravey in restaurent there is no chapati and roti or naan only smal portion of rice not for an adult When i ask to speak to the manager or owner they guy on the counter is very rude and harsh and abusing and syaing leave the permises and use unprofessional words cany write here Very bad Even i paid 19£ for no taste and food I will not recomend anyone for this restaurent

The best meal out I've had in a long time! The restaurant is cosy and colourful with murals on the walls. The staff were very friendly and helpful - telling us about the dishes we were unfamiliar with. I particularly loved the paneer 65, schezwan cauliflower and paani puri. There were some familiar Indian flavours but it is unique to any Indian meal I've had before. Highly recommend :)

I had an amazing experience at Maaya in Bath Spa yesterday! The food was absolutely fantastic, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. A special shoutout to Pratik, who welcomed us with a big smile and incredible hospitality. He went above and beyond, not only recommending dishes but also sharing great suggestions for things to do in Bath. The highlight for me was the Chai, an absolute must-try! It was so good that I found myself going back later in the evening just to enjoy another cup. If you’re in Bath and looking for authentic Indian flavors with exceptional service, Maaya is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Came here on a busy night (Black Friday weekend) and the restaurant was full, thankfully we’ve booked a table in advance. There were 5 of us plus a baby, with a stroller as well, but the staff put us in a nice corner with plenty of space. Drinks were good, and the food was flavoursome. The staff, especially the young chap (shame we didn’t catch his name) was very helpful and friendly. They were very accommodating with our baby throughout the night, despite being very busy. The paintings on the walls were beautiful and we learned that it was the young staff’s fiancé’s artwork. Well done!! Would recommend 😊

We went for a curry before going to the Forum. Maaya is literally 2 mins away. Maaya isn't the standard Indian restaurant...but it's surprisingly good...we all enjoyed our food and atmosphere....though I did miss not having a Jalfrazi and Pilau 😁

Two of us vsited this lovely restaurant last night and it was amazing. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They were very knowledgable about the food that they serve which helped guide our choices. All the food (5 tapas/street food dishes) was delicious yet very reasonably priced. With 2 glasses of wine the bill only came to £55. Incredible value and a lovely vibe. Good range of vegetarian options. Excellent!
