Ma Petite Jamaica in Camden

Always a great experience. Grateful to be accommodated as you were really busy and we were delayed due to a terrible hotel experience. First class food and drinks. Good service too. Thank you!

I had this restaurant in my "want to go" list and when my friends and I were in the area we decided to stop by for dinner and check it out. We didn't have a reservation so when they recommended the spare table by the door with the cold draft we took it without complaining. Then they just abandoned us there for 20 minutes. They didn't take our order, not even for drinks. We were trying to get someone's attention but nobody was around. Eventually, we just took our jackets and walked out as it was obvious we would have starved. Overall, the service was bad and unfortunate. I would have asked politely the customers to be patient if they were that busy. The asian buffet around the corner with the low google rating welcomed us, sat us down immediately, got us drinks and it hit the spot. I would recommend that one instead!

Food was lovely and was suggested to get oxtail and the brown chicken which were both delicious. Cocktails were good as well. However we were rushed off our table in 50mins. As were just finishing up our plates were collected and the bill thrust upon us, the wait or said they needed the table. Completely understand that you need to free up space but we had reserved the table and was a disappointing way to end our experience.

Food was alright however the staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional. We arrived 9:15, and within minutes of sitting down (whilst my girlfriend was in the toilet) I was forced to take our full order by the waiter as the kitchen was closing, however they were constantly letting new people in the door. This was the first red flag. Then when waiting for our starters to come, they decided to bring our mains at the same time. We had no time to eat our starters before the mains went cold. Also half of our food didn’t even turn up, and when mentioned to the waiters they had a rude attitude and we were met with comments like “so what?” “You didn’t even order it” etc. When bringing all of these issues to the attention of the “manager”, we were given a whole £2 off the £100+ bill. Absolutely laughable Food is decent but my god are the staff incompetent and rude. Especially the female waiters, they have an extra attitude with them. Do not go here.

Me and the misses stumbled upon this little restaurant while exploring Camden and very much enjoyed our little Jamaican date, we stumbled upon it around 5 minutes before it opened and asked if we could sit down, Jake the server told us to sit down and took our drinks order and it was brought out to us at a great speed and both cocktails were delicious , once we were ready he took our order and gave it to Shane (the cook) whom prepared an absolutely fantastic meal I had the Jamaican chicken curry which was amazing and my misses had ribs which she said the sauce and ribs was incredible. We will hopefully return to this amazing little restaurant.

Oh yeah, this place is great, make the effort to go here. Food is delicious, the drinks are great and the staff are, well not professional but definitely not unprofessional. Can I say 'chill' without sounding like a tool?? I feel like I went to support my friends' restaurant and had a great time. Oh! And between 5-7 is happy hour where select cocktails are half price, which was a real treat!

Loud music, pork ribs impossible to chew

We were greeted by Kemal who had a lovely energy about him, was super friendly and welcoming whilst also happily singing along to the great music. Food and cocktails were amazing and at such good value especially as it was happy hour 5-7pm every day. Plenty of vegetarian options. It was my sister in laws first time trying Caribbean food, she loved it and the atmosphere too. I had left my purse in the restaurant and Kemal came running out to find me. Couldn’t recommend him, the service and restaurant enough. Can’t wait to go back, thank you so much!

The food here is absolutely amazing—well worth the wait! While the service is just okay, the incredible flavors more than make up for it. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially if you come in very hungry, but trust me, the food is worth every minute.

Absolutely bussin. Went with my gf she had the chicken wings and jerk chicken spring rolls and I had the jerk pork with some chips. Yum yum yummy in my belly that was so freakin awesome. Big portions, yummy ass food just simply yum yum yummy. Staff service great, they delivered my food very politely. Hashtag yummy

We went just before new year's and ordered from the Christmas set menu. All really enjoyed our meal and cocktails. My ackee and saltfish starter was amaaaaazing. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other dishes. The two staff that were on the restaurant floor who looked after us were outstanding. Absolutely lovely experience.

I went there when I was in Camden Town and I FRANKLY recommend it! The staff are super friendly and attentive. The food is super good, it feels homemade and the portions are great (they use a lot of chicken haha). There was good music and the decor is very beautiful!

Great food- large portions and plenty of flavour. However almost all of the small plates were off the menu because they hadn't cooked them prior to opening.. we only got told this after we'd got our drinks and were ready to order. ...it came across as a bit disorganised but with a good kitchen..

Confirmed booking for Christmas meal with colleagues - no booking found, no Christmas menu at either site. However, Al a carte menu food was very taste despite all the menu mix up. Such good food it a pity they let themselves down with unintended poor service and atmosphere.

I had high expectations for visiting Mapetite and was let down majorly. Firstly I live in south London so it was quite the journey for me, especially when going out, which I don’t very often. The service was slow as there was only one person serving 4/5 tables. You had to wait ages to order food and drinks. This let down the experience entirely and the restaurant wasn’t even at full capacity. Secondly, as a pescatarian a few fish options were unavailable to order (Escovitch fish, peppered shrimps - which I wanted, no burgers or wraps either) another major let down, so I resulted to ordering starters. The server wasn’t informative either, didn’t ask if I had any allergies to be made aware of. Also didn’t make us aware that the restaurant had a promotion of 25% off, only saw that after we left. I had the lobster mac and cheese which had more mac and cheese than lobster/crayfish, it was dry and disappointing. There were only 2 sauces to have with my order, ketchup or mayo, again disappointing. I expect that at a fish & chip shop or chicken & chip shop, not a restaurant charging higher prices. My friends had mains but they aren’t pescatarian and they were satisfied with their meals. I ordered a lemonade and for £3 and it came in the tiniest glass tumbler - not great value for money. Therefore having to order another drink. I went to use the restroom and the first two cubicles had no toilet roll or hand wash. That’s not a great experience when you’re bursting to wee. The restrooms were clean though, so I’ll give you that. There was no where to dry your hands either. No hand paper towels or hand dryer. These things matter and shouldn’t be overlooked and checked before opening. Overall, I was displeased with my experience and will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to others.

Lekkere, pittige Jamaicaanse keuken zoals we die kennen van onze Jamaica-reizen. Telkens we in Londen zijn boeken we hier een tafeltje. Leuke sfeer, lekkere cocktails, vlotte bediening en vooral de jerk die lekker vurig is kunnen we wel smaken!

We wanted to try some authentic Caribbean food whilst in London for the weekend and Ma Petite Jamaica delivered. The food was delicious, the staff were all super helpful and friendly, the restaurant is cool and the drinks were half price for happy hour (5-7pm) We tried the pork ribs, jerk chicken and ox tail stew. Everything was great. Thanks for a great experience.

The service was poor, waiters seemed ill equipped, to deal with the task of serving customers, even though a waiter was given one order twice the main course didn’t arrive, no apology. Also quite a lot of the menu not available wraps, burgers or dumplings. If you needed service it felt like you were bothering the staff, rude and indifferent. Food was average, will not be visiting again.

By far my family's favorite meal from our week in London. It sits in an alley, right off Camden High St, a couple blocks from the Camden Market. It first got my attention because Jake the building is called out as a Rum Bar, and.. well, they definitely don't disappoint on that front! Lots of great rum options to choose from and walk away very happy. My family decided to stay for food, and we were just blown away by the depth and richness of flavors. My wife is of Caribbean decent (from Costa Rica, which also has a large Jamaican decent population on the Caribbean side), so we were already partial to the cuisine in general. I had the curry goat and my wife got the Oxtail Stew. The curry was definitely great, but what really blew us away was the Oxtail Stew. We'd never had anything like that. HUGE depth of flavor, buttery soft meat that just melted in our mouths, and just enough spice to wake up the palette and make the meal even more memorable. We loved it so much that I researched recipes and made a version for ourselves for thanksgiving. It took 2 days to do it. It came out great... Definitely not as good as the one from Ma Petite Jamaica, but was at least a worthy reminder. Long story short.. this food was so good, we're trying to figure out how to re-live it from 5,000 miles away. Sadly, we didn't get pictures.. we were too busy eating, drinking and enjoying!

Food was poor. Pre-cooked and barely warm. Staff were helpful and made you feel like an irritant. Would sadly not recommend.

Honestly very disappointed my first time at ma Peite jamacian was more than pleasant the staff were lovely and energetic now when I have returned expecting the same experience boy was I shocked we weren’t greeted with smiles made it seem like we interrupted their day and they didn’t want to be there the food was lovely as always but was placed on the table in-front of anyone not asked who dish was for which I honestly found quite rude and a lack of communication from the staff when I asked for extra napkins I was ignored only time they were some what happy to serve us was when was we was leaving sad because my first experience was so pleasant

Extremely disappointed! Service was poor! Food was unfulfilling! Serving staff were clearly irritated when asked simple questions relating to the menu. There were no fish dishes available which left my daughter with no choice of main. When asked for steam vegetables we were advised there wasn't any!! The lobster mac and cheese bites and sweet potato and pumpkin fritters were pre-cooked, stodgy and cold. The mains were microwave heated and still came out cold. My first and last experience of Ma Petite. I would not make recommendations for this restuarant.

Mis amigos y yo hacemos un almuerzo mensual sin fondo. Esto fue lo peor en lo que hemos estado. Nos fuimos sobrios. En primer lugar, soy celiaca y tengo alergia a los frutos secos. No tuvieron ninguna opción para alimentarme debido a que se me acabó la ensalada... El ponche de ron estaba en una gran jarra de la que iban por ahí vertiendo. Sin embargo, el servicio fue horrendo. Tuvimos unos 3 golpes cada uno. Mis amigos dijeron que su comida era seca y de mala calidad. Además, llegamos a tiempo, 2 : 45 pero no obtuvimos nuestra primera bebida hasta las 3 : 15 . Dejaron de recargarnos a las 4: 15 lo que significaba que el sin fondo era solo una hora. Tuvimos que pedir cada recarga. Entendemos que estos lugares están tratando de ganar dinero, sin embargo, era muy obvio las esquinas que estaban cortando. Calidad barata, cara y no alegre.

Absolute delicious food! The oxtail was the best I've ever had! The ribs also were 10/10 the dumplings were also delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cant wait to visit again :)

Excellent food and attentive (if relaxed) service. The fish and eggplant curry was fantastic - one of my top curry dishes ever, with more than enough rice and bonus fried plantains. The jerk chicken wings were a perfect balance of flavor and juiciness - dip the fried plantains in the sauce for an extra treat. The ackee and saltfish appetizer was also great - the dumplings on the side were solid but very tasty. We also managed to get here for happy hour, where we got 2 for 1 birds of paradise, which were also delicious. Hard to go wrong with this small but lively restaurant tucked into Camden - so many options with such promise.

My friend and I went here to try a new cuisine. I ordered the chicken stew with rice and plantains as a side but my friend unfortunately could only have Cassava fries due to the lack of allergen options. I was sad that in the end I was the only one to eat. The waitress was very nice but I have to admit that I was very sad because in other restaurants the chefs once they know the allergies wash the pot thoroughly and prepare a separate dish for my friend if he is not too busy and this restaurant was not when we arrived.

Tlhe food was lovely as always, especially the rice and peas. The jerk chicken was spicy as hell, just how I like it, but be warned, it's not for the faint of heart. They had a good selection of dishes on the menu. Oh, and we got a free drink for writing an honest review. The music was on point, but the decor could use an update. Overall, it was a great vibe.

My first time here and trying Caribbean food , I was blown away I’ve never had a stew or dumplings like it ! Our waitress Ebony was a leech balance of friendly and professional - the bartender made the most amazing pina colada it’s a must try ! I work in hospitality myself and this was exactly the kind of place I look for on a night out , the atmosphere was so nice and relaxing all staff smiling , I will be recommending to everyone , thank you for a lovely meal . We were welcomed by Ebony, she was very friendly, she was the only waitress there and ran the restaurant seamlessly. Romeo was the bar tender, he mixed gorgeous cocktails. He helped Ebony on the restaurant floor in between mixing. I can't thank them both enough for making our night so enjoyable. The food was delicious, with lots of choice. I can't wait to go back and try something different.

Such a cute little spot right in the bustling Camden town area. I only stopped in to get out of the rain, but I'm glad I did. Loved the music and cultural decor. Would definitely come back. Everyone was friendly.

I've had mixed experiences dining here. The first time I got the most delicious crispy friend dumpling but sadly, it has been soft on the outside on subsequent visits. However, I've visited a few times now and appreciate the 10% off for deal at lunchtimes. The cocktails are lovely and I've enjoyed the her chicken and fried plantain.

Went for lunch to Ma Petite Jamaica and the flavours were there! The drinks were exotic, sweet really worth it!!! We totally recommend it! Music made the environment more vibrant and fun! Naj, Romeo and Jay served us, and so lovely!

Me and my pals had such a great start to our evening here. Brilliant, lively atmosphere with so fantastic drinks. I have to recommend the black river ice tea which was DEVINE. Shan was an absolute pleasure to have as a server and she kindly offered me a free birthday shot. Loved every minute and will be back again!

Walked in, ordered the jerk chicken and asked if the rice could be replaced with plantain. The waitress said that was fine and took the order. An hour later, no sign of the food. Everyone else around us who had arrived later had already been served. Eventually, I see the waitress look through the order receipts and realise she’s lost ours. An hour and 45 later we are given our food and I am served jerk chicken with rice. After explaining that I requested plantain, she said the kitchen didn’t do this. This was fine but no apology was given at all for the extremely long wait and instead she handled our table over to the female bartender who gave us our check and was a lot more polite, but again, no apology. Food itself was quite good but not worth the extremely long wait and impolite waitress

The atmosphere and service was nice,I ordered the mix grill and mac and cheese balls starter the food was not up to Jamaican standard then I saw it owner was Polish, worst bit was I never checked the hygiene rating which l always normally do which is only a 2, wouldn't go back.

OMG that mutton curry! We walked by chance just for a quiet beer and a small dish but stayed for dinner and it was well worth it! Also the saltfish & ackee is worth an honourable mention.

Great vibes in here. Right when you walk in here the music and atmosphere makes you feel like you’re not in London and in someone warm and tropical. Friendly bartenders- Jaysean & Romeo. They make a great pina colada- great presentation and not too sweet.
