Ma Petite Jamaica in Camden

Beautiful atmosphere, great music! It’s hard to resist the urge to dance because the old school Jamaican songs are so vibrant! Romeo was the perfect host and mixologist, he even gave us extra shots! Angel was a very polite waitress. And ofc the food was scrumptious and very flavoursome! I can’t wait to visit Ma Petite Jamaica again!

Thanks to this restaurant for welcoming us after a difficult accommodation ! The cocktails are great. The staff is very welcoming.

My daughter and I ate there tonight and had a great experience. Firstly the food was superb - perfectly cooked, tasty and well presented. I can't remember when I last enjoyed a meal so much. Atmosphere was just right, also the service - no pressure to hurry making choices. All in all we couldn't have had a better experience. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I always get the Mai Tai. Finger food’s been good the few times I’ve tried it. The atmosphere is always buzzing with Jamaican sounds that make you stop mid sentence to sing. Tables are shaky though so I’m removing a star for that.

I have bladder problems. I came in because I needed to go to the bathroom. They told me it was for clients only. I asked for a bottle of water. They didn't want to sell it to me and I had to look for another place. I had a bad time. Thank you for humanity.

Such a lovely venue, has a very cosy relaxed family atmosphere and is always very busy. A must visit for anyone who loves jerk chicken! 5 stars!

Had a great time last night! After a booking failed elsewhere, they accepted a table of 6 and we were all happy with our visit. (Saturday 5pm) Happy hour between 5-7 - yes the selection is very limited but “The Bird of Paradise” is lovely. Me and the girls didn’t hold back on ordering (5-7 tapas each) the mac & cheese was a WIN! We also had bbq chicken, plantain, rice, roti, curry goat, fritters, spring rolls & more. Our waitress was great, got everything correct and didn’t make us wait long. Music was a vibe also! Strongly recommend for a group wanting to eat and drink. We split the bill into 6 which was £47

The food was great, when we got it. We waited at the bar for a table and ordered drinks. Best mojito I've had in a while. They gave our group free shots for the wait. Then we were set at a table. Took a while to order and then half us didn't get our food, they eventually had to be told that that our food was missing. Then they said it would be five minutes or it would be comped. Those two dishes came out about 15 to 20 minutes later and they ended up still charging us and had the audacity charge us gratuity. There was only 5 of us mind you. Then after we left we noticed they still charged us for a small plate they didn't give us. I think if they invested in a POS system yhe problem wouldn't have happened. If you go, don't go when it's busy. Again, I did enjoy the food.

Birthday dinner for my Wife. Mentioned this on the booking and also because of the time of year we did not want to be sat by the door. We arrived and our table was by the door, they did move us to another table. As it was Happy Hour we ordered drinks but were informed that it was only certain Cocktails that we're included, so we could not even get decent Cocktails I. E. a Rum Punch or Pinacolada during the not so Happy Hour. This was a big disappointment indeed. All the Cocktails were priced at £11.00. If they had varied prices for different drinks I would be a bit more understanding but they weren't, I really do not get it at all! Seems very petty. I've never known a happy hour were you can only have the cheaper drinks. We're only talking a bit of Rum here! At Cottons you can have what ever Cocktails are on the list!. Some elements of food, Dumplings, Festivals, Fritters were overcooked and hard. After our first course I mentioned to our waiter that the food was not very hot and could our mains be hotter. She said that she would mention this to the kitchen. Our mains came out and for the most part was not very hot. Ma Petite has an amazing Vibe and the tunes playing must have come from my own collection. Overall the quality of the food could have been better and certainly a lot hotter! Don't get why food comes out luke warm then it's cold before your finished eating. This was a very big point for us! why ask for the occasion (my Wife's Birthday) and it's not followed up by Ma Petite with some sort of gesture it would have made a difference and was very disappointing for us.

The atmosphere and service were good. I felt some of the dishes had too much salt which ruined the food a little. Loved the cocktails though!

Food was mad ting sad ting for a veggie / vegetarian / ital person. Very dry slice of halloumi burger, no avocado and sprinkle of dry rice and pea. Asked for tomato was non 😭 apparently jerk chicken was nice. Cocktails and staff were amazing butt very underwhelming experience for £15 a burger.

It was a lovely evening i came to have a family meal for my birthday. All staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The meal was nicely presented. We made it in time for happy hour which ended at 7pm. If only I had a few more drinks. The music was also very lively with a great mixture of old school and new bashment. They also read the note that I wrote which was nice and came out with a birthday cake for me, we was also given complimentary shots. The manager had loads of banter which was nice I'm sure he would have given me a bottle of vinegar if he could have lool. So thank you to you all.

The food was great, the only thing I didn't like was the Calaloo, but all was great. Was also impressed that the waitress took our order without writing it down and all food was brought out. Would return.

Been here a few times. Good service. Nice music & vibe. Just such a shame they got rid of next door's menu. There used to be an excellent vegan menu. Now there's only one main meal available for vegetarians - the curry (and it's a bit bland). No roti, no wraps, no meat alternative. I think they've lost a huge following doing this! Especially in Camden where there is a large vegan customer base.

Great music, DJ playing very loud music. Big list of rum based drinks to choose from and a great cocktail list too. The barman knows how to make a fantastic mojito.

The food is excellent, we arrived without reservation and got a table after 10-15 minutes of waiting. There is a lot of atmosphere so if you want to chat while eating it's not really suitable. However, I didn't understand why we were charged 12% for the tip without warning?

Im really shocked and disappointed about my experience with this restaurant as I have came a long way have a great time and experience what I was promised! I arrived exactly at 1pm as that’s the time it was stated that the brunch (that I paid for) would start and the restaurant will be open, however when I entered the restaurant, the staff told me they were not open and asked me to come back in 20 minutes! I feel like I have a been robbed from my time! I came back exactly in 15 minutes and I was then told that there was no buffet! This place clearly stated there will be a Jamaican buffet with unlimited drinks within 60 minutes! As I a paying customer, I expect my experience to be fulfilled according to what they’re offering!

The servers were attentive, the music and the decor meant the vibe was on point, non Jamaican members of our party tried foods for the first time and loved them and remarked how different and tasty it was compared to a certain chain restaurant they had tried. Couldnt have been happier.

We had a superb experience at this venue . Seen instagram posts and advertising for a while now but was reluctant . Should have come sooner . Its really a cut above all other jamaican venues around - food is authentic and simplicity is the key here - casual dining and a really good atmosphere . We were a group of 6 and most of us having Jamaican ancestry and we can definitely say that the food is good - almost like what our mothers used to cook . Well done and really hope that the venue will be around for a while as it does Jamaican food justice . love the old skool reggae and attentive staff . Cocktails especially the Black river ice tea and the Bird of paradise were excellent

This restaraunt was a great find. A warm welcome when we arrived and very attentive staff throughout the evening. Nice choice of Jamaican style food which turned out to be very tasty. Good atmosphere and Red Stripe beer on draughty!

Good cocktails, very good service and tasty food, though I would have cooked out the oxtail a little longer and rice portions could have been a smidgen bigger All in all, a great experience and I will visit again.

The food tasted extremely delicious and I think I will definitely be coming here very often. The waiters and waitresses have given the kindest hospitality and service they could. I’m in awe by the level of food it’s given. It was also halal, which meant I enjoyed it so much more!

Loved every bit of this place! The food was deliciously amazing, as well as the whole vibe of this place! The service just complimented the whole thing perfectly! We ordered the patties, although I did not expect them to be small, they were so good! We got three in that portion. For mains we ordered the goat curry and rice. The goat was absolutely beautifully cooked as well as tender. Loved every bit of it. We also ordered the jerk chicken enchalada which was fabulous too! Highly recommend this place! It's worth every penny!!

Went for a Christmas meal with the ladies. I thought the food was flavoursome from start to finish and very well priced for 3 courses Service unfortunately was touch and go. Someone on our table asked for water, not only did she have to ask someone else after a considerable wait, but the original waitress she asked was on her phone! Another very important factor was that we pre ordered our meal almost 3 weeks before around the 5th December, yet one lady in our party was told that they didn't have the desert she pre ordered. This fact omitted until they were ready to serve dessert. The restaurant was told when we pre ordered that she had a nut allergy and was selected because it was the only dessert on the menu that she could have. I don't understand why if you pre ordered the menu almost 3 weeks before that you are told halfway through dining that they don't have what you ordered! You've not walked in off the street, dinner was an early sitting at 6pm ... I thought this was very poor indeed. I would therefore not say it's a good choice for dietary restrictions. That being said I would visit again as I enjoyed the meal that I was served. The bar next door was great! Great ambience and staff (a Columbian and Polish gentleman) both attentive and engaging

Absolutely phenomenal service from Kemar, he was helpful and attentive without being overbearing. I will certainly be coming back with more friends. Food was absolutely divine. If you choose to go to Ma Petit Jamaica Shoreditch - ask for Kemar!

It was our second visit within a month. Loved the food (veggie options available) and the nice atmosphere despite big parties happening on both occasions. Strongly recommended!

A restaurant that celebrates Jamaican heritage with focus on diverse food dishes and variety of drink choices all at reasonable prices. Cozy and vibrant atmosphere, just the perfect setting for a get together with loved ones. The staff are welcoming and friendly and provide outstanding customer service. For a night of entertainment, check out their bar next door, where they have a DJ station, live music and a dance floor. I would definitely visit Ma Petite Jamaica again and would recommend this restaurant.

Had a beautiful experience. I was late for my booking by 30 mins but the staff handled it in a very professional way. The food was delicious and gave me the best Caribbean experience. We stumbled on this place during a day out in Camden for a friends birthday, it is a hidden gem! Very tasty dishes and huge portion sizes, I recommend the oxtail and curried mutton. Been here a couple weeks earlier with some friends for their bottomless brunch which was pretty good, so, I took my mum and sister with me yesterday, service was pretty good, we did feel a bit rushed to which my waitress said they'd needed the table for another group of people coming. It was slightly disappointing hence the 4 stars but the food and atmosphere was 10/10. I've very rarely seen my mum actually enjoy a cocktail but the rum punch seemed to hit the spot for her.

The evening started well drinking in the bar next door. Once in the actual restaurant our party of 7 were given seats right above the stair well in a corner all I could smell was wee even the waitress admitted the area smelt. As far as I'm concerned this area should not have been seating and needed cleaning, disinfecting and airing. We were eventually offered alternative seating and given shots which was a nice touch. The service was good the food was good we all had intentions to return at some point until..... It got to the end of the evening when we were paying. All I heard were screams and saw people jumping up onto the seats and lifting there legs as a RAT ran through the restaurant. The waitresses, the chef none of the staff infact did anything they didn't move, didn't apologise or say a word they just continued to take our payments which leads me to think the RAT issue is a norm. The manager needs to get in rentokill and get this sorted asap. Also the downstairs toilet area strongly smells of wee and needs deep cleaning & disinfecting perhaps that why upstairs smells

Came for a birthday for my boyfriend and from the moment we arrived the people and atmosphere were wonderful- Kemar was a great host full of life and jokes and the most important thing is the food was banging and we already mutually agreed this will be a tradition 10/10

BIG DIRTY RAT that was not petite at Ma petite in Camden Friday night 8/12/23 I was going to comment on the Christmas menu...but hello forget that ..just after we paid and sipping more cocktails THE Biggest 🐀 dirty Long tail RAT !!! Yes a RAT not a mouse ran through the middle of the dining area into the kitchen. The staff did not look surprised 😳. All they were concerned with was that we pay the bill and leave. Customers were screaming and climbing on the chairs and tables. . What an awful experience.. I did not realise I could get on the chair that fast. No need to say the service was slow.. or that the staff kept going outside to chat to friends hug them up then come back inside and not wash their hands. Dishes served without items. Cold food and OMG Cold Plantine.!! ( thats a sin in itself).. The seabass Fillets was missing a fillet as only one served and the one fillet was so small it was in competition with a sardine. The dietary requirements were missed completely. We had to send back food due to allergies which was clearly stated. 😒 Table was tight for 10 as it could only hold 8. This use to be one of my favourite places.. Never going back . I'm sending the video of the rat to their head office and reporting it to Camden environmental services REFUND Please I now have PTSD!!

We literally saw a RAT!! Run through the restaurant! All the customers where shell shocked! But the staff were pretty relaxed about the situation! Needless to say our friendship will not be returning!

Food was ok. Everything was ok. Nothing spectacular just ok. We finished eating and were getting ready to leave when the largest rat I have ever seen ran across the floor in the direction of the kitchen. I screamed and we left in total shock. Another table of 4 that hadn't placed their order also left. A young man who arrived when the incident occurred and was waiting for his other friends to arrive also promptly got up and left. We received a weak mumbled apology from a bar tender who wasn't even there then the incident happened. The girl that served us just walked away and was talking to the cook. She didn't bother coming back, just kept away.

Pest control issues. The food was very tasty, but we saw both a mouse and a rat running by our table in the space of 10 min, which prompted us to leave immediately for serious hygiene concerns.

Loved the atmosphere when first entering the restaurant. The staff were friendly and most welcoming, the food was very nice and tasty, the waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. For starters I had peppered shrimps, main dish: Oxtail (absolutely delicious) served with Rice & Peas. Would definitely recommend and most certainly will go back.👍

The vibe in this place was amazing but the staff are undefeated. Rose is literally the greatest female ever. She kept a smile on our faces all night! Matt also looked after us to ensure everything was good. The food was 10/10 but the service was everything.

Their hours aren’t accurate. I walked in at 4:30pm to staff eating at the front of the restaurant, one one of which got up to seat us but the other girl said no it’s not 5 yet and we had to leave. Online there we’re supposed to be open from 1-10 pm on a Thursday.

Nice place to come for a cocktail especially at happy hour £6 for a cocktail great value for london! Staff was very friendly the only down side I'd Say is although I enjoyed the music they had on it was waay too loud like being in a club but it was only about 4/5 ish in the afternoon.

Had a lovely time at this restaurant. Door staff on the bar next door were really friendly. Bar tender and the chap waiting our table were great. We asked for any recommendations and my hubby went with the goat curry accompanied by rice and peas. I had the fish curry with rice which was really tasty. Starters were fine too. We availed ourselves of the happy hour cocktails. Jamaican Mule, Cuba Libra, Bird of Paradise and Jamaican Iced Tea. Again hubby asked for a recommendation and qhen iced tea was proferred he offered a puzzled look.until reassured it had a combo of 5 rums😄. Only reason for 4 stars is the 12.5% service charge added as standard. I don't mind tipping and am happy with service charges for larger groups (6+) but there is an element of naughtiness in popping it on a bill for 2. (I know customers can ask for it to be removed but ot always takes the edge of a pleasant evening. ) Overall we had a very pleasant evening. Thanks to chefs and staff.

The service from the manager was very disrespectful. He was adamant on serving us raw Plaintain and when we complained he stated he doesn’t respect our complaint as we are young women. Highly disrespectful

I have had a very poor experience from this restaurant today due to a manager named Shane or Judas or Johnathan (I’m not sure as he gave multiple fake names and he also gave us a fake website to complain to). We simply complained about some uncooked plantain which we thought would be easily resolved with a new portion of plantain but he decided to reply with a variety of personal comments regarding us being young women which meant our complaint was invalid. He also assumed that we were not of caribbean origin which was why we were making this complaint despite us both being caribbean. He walked off many times while we tried to make a complaint which is just poor as a ‘manager’. Just to top it off, he refused to give his real name as he didn’t take us or our views seriously, shouting ‘who are you?’ when asked for his real name rather than the fake ones he provided. The customer service was extremely poor and disrespectful from this manager and it is clear it was because he didn’t respect us as young black women (he said this directly as he explained that our comments were not valid due to our age). It is obvious that he was afraid to give his real name due to this poor treatment.

The worse bar I’ve been to in years. My friend booked her 60th birthday party with a buffet. Even though the food was meant to be served until 9.45 pm, half an hour beforehand they removed all of the plates, and when they brought them up again after having to ask for it, there was no cutlery nor tissues (the reason I am giving 3 stars for the food is because I had no way of eating most of it unless I wanted to eat with my hands, couple of dishes I could try were tasty). Also worth mentioning that around 9.15pm the bar stopped serving drinks in glasses indoors and used paper cups instead, still charging full central London price for it. The bar was empty , with no atmosphere . Noting that the party guests formed majority of the customers, the way personnel behaved towards the party , It felt like they were not interested in making any customs nor reoccurring customers . I will not be coming back here again.

Dropped in here last night just on the off chance. Really relaxed vibe. We had ackee,salt cod and dumpling. Small portion, but as described on menu. Really delicious though. Had some plantain and sweet potato fries as well, couple of cocktails. What's not to like. Staff were great. Friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back if I was in Camden.

Good all round place, and the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars for the food, was the meat eaters. They quoted it was really good, but the veg options were limited, and the curry I had was really bland, tasted like it was boiled veg in hot water. If you want conversation then maybe this place isn't for you as the music is really loud and between us we were shouting to each other, but I guess it creates an atmosphere not my style, and personally I think you don't need to make deaf to create a atmosphere, but hey ho each to there own and if that floats your boat, sail away. The drinks were ok, and the starters for the veg and meat eaters were ok. The Indian lady who served it was very good so well done. I personally think it's got a lot of potential but just needs tweaking, i.e.lower the music A lot more veg options that are available and you'll double your base. I'll keep an eye on this place and update as and when.

Restaurant is nicely decorated inside. The food here compared to my local Caribbean takeaway was just average. The Curry mutton was nice flavours, oxtail was ok and brown stew was ok but definitely missing flavour. The portion size of the oxtail was good there was a lot of meat but rice size on all food could definitely be bigger as it’s small and I finished it still having meat left and being hungry and for the price it definitely shouldn’t be. I love Coleslaw but sadly it was quite tasteless here. Service was not bad but not good. The servers especially the young Indian looking female did not have a good vibe about them. They are not happy or enthusiastic and barely give you any eye contact or speak, it’s like they can’t be bothered. They got our drinks order wrong and our food order wrong and when I said not to worry I would just eat what they brought out thinking I was doin them a favour as I eat really anything on the menu the server wasn’t even grateful or bothered he had messed up the order and I was just settling to make his job easier. Overall was ok night and I would go back. Food needs more flavour and servers definitely need better more welcoming service with some enthusiasm or passion about making people experience there good.

This lovely, cute restaurant is certainly the place to go for authentic Jamaican cuisine. My partner, being of Jamaican/English descent was brought up on Jerk chicken, rice and peas - he was literally transported back to his childhood! I had the Jerk Salmon, which was very tasty, well presented & a lovely kick. The cocktails & smoothies were a hit. Overall, a wonderful experience, lovely staff and a reasonable bill at the end of it. NB. Cornbread would be a lovely addition to the sides .. hint hint.

Went for the brunch. Expected what I saw on the gram but only 1 other small group had booked. It was very empty indeed. Food was eaten to line my stomach, I'm not saying nasty just very average. The best time to visit here is late! When the tables are put away. Then it's a vibe.

Good food as usual. Certain foods were missing from the menu (fish), and when asking about other dishes, the waitress was impatient and ahowed this with her body language and face. She was working alone taking orders, and we did have to wait a while before we could order because she was going between a few tables. Food was missing from the order, and the waitress asked at the end of the meal if we would like to take it off the bill (YES, PLEASE)! Food as usual i will always enjoy. Good portions. Felt rushed to order, eat, and leave, which is not good just because you want the next batch of customers. I'll still give a 4 star because out of the many times i have been here, this time has been my only letdown.

I've been to the Shoreditch branch for brunch and enjoyed it so thought I'd try this branch. Really enjoyed the food! I had jerk chicken spring rolls, which was novel and nice. For my main I had fish curry with fried plantain and steamed rice. Also fried dumplings. All was very tasty. The service was really quick. We dined outside on a hot summer June afternoon with the vibrant Camden market nearby. Would definitely go again. UPDATE: Returned in September and didn't have such a good experience so changed my rating. My dumpling was not was crisp and the service was inattentive. Please be consistent!

Eating good Jamaican Chicken Jerk at ma Petite Jamaica was one of the highlights of our short London trip. Being surrounded by locals and reggae music made this an experience we will not forgrt. Thanks for the hospitality!

We booked for a party of 6 for a 60th birthday. We were running slightly late but as there is no phone number we couldn’t call to let them know. We arrived around 7.45 for our 7.30 booking. Two friends were still in the way. We ordered cocktails and were told we should get the food orders from out late friends so we sent them a photo of the menu and got their orders. The music was so loud that you literally couldn’t speak, not reggae but dancehall and basement. My friend whose birthday it was asked them to turn it down slightly which clearly didn’t go down well! He told us “it’s my music” my friend responded that it’s a restaurant not a nightclub! The food was awful, the rice and peas was bland and unseasoned and there was so much fat on the curry goat that we had half a bowl of fat left at the end of the meal. They mixed up all the drinks orders and then at 9.10 we were told we had to leave our table because the next table had arrived early and we would have to move to the bar! No nod was made to my friends birthday. Really disappointing place.

Bunch of thieves they do not accept forex card's without signature but took my money twice and behaved like complete incompetent professionals. Cheaters !!!!

Disgusted at this place ma petite Jamaica in Camden Inverness st I was literally on my own just a woman & I got told by this guy in the photo he will break my face for dancing in the smoking area outside but when I Questioned why he was saying I was apparently being too loud but I was alone and not even talking so I didn’t understand why? I made no noise at all! I was Humiliated & abused for no reason & kicked out of here just for dancing in the outside smoking area by this person at night whilst the whole of Camden was vibing this place definitely wasn’t! just wow!!!! Never ever again!!
