Ma La Sichuan in City of London, Westminster

I enjoyed it so much!! It was delicious so I went twice. Dantanmen, Kkanpunggi, Dumplings with sesame sauce, Kkanpunggi, Sweet and sour pork I ate it It was my first time eating tantanmen and I enjoyed it (my husband said noodles aren't his style). The Kkanpunggi was not very spicy, but it was spicy. The dumplings were also a total treat. They were spicy and spicy👍 The style of sweet and sour pork was different from Korea, but it was good.

Totally different chinese food experience. I love the flavors. Fantastic!

It's a bit similar to the taste of dandanmyeon I used to eat in Korea, but much more delicious (I didn't like Korean dandanmyeon). The staff are also friendly. I recommend it

Excellent service. I dropped a chopstick and one magically appeared within a minute. Food came out quickly and it was delicious. Singapore rice noodles with chicken and spring rolls.

Went early (19:30) on a Saturday night. Reservations are a must because all the tables were taken and were refilled as soon as a group left. If you do not like Sichuan food you will not be happy here. The three dishes we had were excellent (Ma Po Tofu, Ants climb on a tree and salt and pepper prawns). The menu is extensive and features many items not found in neighborhood restaurants. Service fast efficient and friendly. Prices were “medium” but in line with the quality of the food.

Stumbled upon this popular and buzzy local Chinese. Reasonable and decent food!

Reservations are a must and can be done on line in advance. Must you must call the restaurant if asking for reservations on the day you wish to dine. Open for lunch then close and reopen for dinner. We dined at 5:30 and felt very welcomed. Very attentive waiters. In fact almost overly attentive. Beware -dishes can be very hot with spice. But you can request less spicy. We asked for broccoli beef and although not on the menu it was prepared for us. The dry wok entrees are quite unique and very tasty. The preparation uses less oil. Husband’s birthday so they brought him a complimentary dessert of mango pudding with a candle. So cute but I really enjoyed the green tea ice cream. Reasonable prices and easy to share. For 3 diners we had won ton soup ( huge to share) 2 entree dishes and 2 rice dishes. Plenty of food.

Wooooow. This is the best Schezwan food I've had. What was equally impressive was the service. No one was ever standing around doing nothing. They were always working together to ensure a smooth and stream line operation. I wish I could get my office to work this efficiently! Nice work management and team!! Regarding the food, we had Schezwan soup, veg dumpling, crispy beef, chili chicken, and Singapore noodles w/ chicken. Yummy!! We left with our tummies very happy. Highly recommended!!

Best Chinese food in London. The veggies were phenomenal, the sichuan oil boiled beef was epically flavorful, and the staff is really friendly and informative. Homemade mango pudding sealed the deal. Amazing food at really great prices — get yourself a reservation and enjoy!

Great, friendly service and great food. The pork ear was spicy and tasted fresh. The dim sum platter lived up to expectations - fresh Prawns and good texture on the skin. Highly recommended (from an Asian/Aussie (&Cantonese) palette). Locals come here and it seems like a really good place for Chinese (sichuan/szechuan) food. Tiger beer on tap too which is a plus. Chilli oil was really nice as well. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner here tonight. The service was amazing. Super friendly. The food was delicious. We tried the vegetable spring rolls, hot & sour soup, wonton soup, & 2 main dishes. All were amazing. Good size portions —we had to get to go boxes. Highly recommend!

This is our favourite Chinese restaurant in London. The flavours you get from Sichuan chillies and salt is quite different from any other cuisine. Highly recommended if you're looking for something unique and different from the usual Chinese food options.

We walked in without a reservation during peak dinner hours, and were seated within minutes. The staff was so kind and attentive, and the food was incredible! The hot & sour soup was so delicious that we ordered a second serving after devouring the first. Everything we ordered was mouth-watering, and we loved every interaction with the staff. We'll definitely return the next time we're in London!

This restaurant was super central but had a cosy and very relaxed feel. The staff were friendly, kind and very attentive. We loved the food - we went for a Set Menu A and the starter came out very quickly. Also we found the drinks to be very reasonably priced. The duck was delish! Tucked away in Westminster, a 5-minute walk from St James's Park underground station, this well-run place is an absolute gem, one of a dying breed of Sechuan Chinese restaurants in London which still offers great value for money, great service and delicious, well-cooked food. Steer clear of the rip-off, tourist-trap restaurants in Soho and elsewhere in Central London and pay Ma La chinese restaurant a visit instead. You won't be disappointed.

Chinese people don’t lie to Chinese people. This restaurant is super delicious. It doesn’t feel like it’s in a Chinese district. I was worried that the taste might be average, but it actually tastes amazing. The most important thing is that Lisa has a super good personality and a happy dining experience, which adds another atmosphere in terms of taste and vision. I felt very looked after as a gluten free customer. They had a gluten free menu. They properly served The gluten free food. After I inquired about The soy sauce they made sure to communicate that the soy sauce delivered is gluten and even marked IT! The food is tasty and almost fullfilled my dream of a Chinese restaurant. They took good care of the gluten free customer. They have a gluten-free menu card. After asking about soy sauce at first, they later announced that the soy sauce provided was gluten-free and also described it on the reusable bottle. The food is delicious and almost my dream come true for a Chinese restaurant.

Authentic Chinese food in a clean, calm dining room. I can recommend the home-style tofu and the egg noodles are tasty.

Cerquita de Westminster, es un chino a la antigua usanza, con buena cocina. El dim sum está muy bueno y las gambas sichuan también… el plato de aperitivos merece la pena y lo que fue espectacular fue el “morning glory”. Verdura gloriosa, realmente. Eso si, pedimos unas rodajas de guindilla adicional, y nos cobraron dos libras. Un poco demasiado… Pero en general, rico y asequible de precio.

Visited two times so far and will go back again. You know you’re in an authentic Chinese restaurant when the service is pragmatic and operational 😅 and they don’t disappoint with the food. Quick service. I usually make a reservation when I go to restaurants, this time I didn’t, but they didn’t turn me down, which is good as I was hungry and didn’t have a lot of time. The place was busy for a weekday lunch, which is always nice to see. It creates a good vibe. The veg dumplings are not overcooked, which is a tough balance to achieve when dealing with thin translucent dumplings, but they know what they’re doing.

Everything was incredible and the treatment was magnificent. They serve quickly.

Classic Chinese restaurant inside, prices are good for London Standard. Ate duck spring rolls and prawn dumplings (both really good), the mains (king prawn udon noodles and stir fried rice with chicken) were ok. To highlight some traditional dishes like pork ears (big bonus when a Chinese restaurant has them). Really great service, they also came outside to give the umbrella I forgot inside. Overall a nice place to have quick nice Chinese meal. Try it out!

Food was already prepared. Very small portion, especially the vegetables.but food was tasty . We had vegetables and dumplings. Rice side payed extra.

We look for good Chinese and Peking Duck wherever we go. On a recent trip to London, my husband found Ma La and it is simply FANTASTIC! The dumpling and Peking Duck were outstanding. The service was excellent. We will go here on every future trip to London and we highly recommend you do, too.

MA La Sichuan in London is fantastic! The staff here anticipated everything, even needs I didn't know I had. When she was putting ice in my glass, I said it was fine even though there wasn’t enough. She went to get more, and I wondered, how did she know I usually put four ice cubes in? She came back and put exactly four in. It was like they could read my mind!The duck was amazing - tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The service was top-notch, making the whole dining experience enjoyable. If you're after authentic Sichuan cuisine with great service, MA La Sichuan is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Went around 8 pm on a Thursday without a reservation and got seated quickly. The whole staff was very friendly and the food was served in courses at a reasonable pace. The dumplings were really good as well as the black pepper steak. Would definitely go back and recommend!

Arriving without a booking on a busy evening we were delighted to get a table without too much waiting. An exciting menu awaited. After perusing and ordering, soon the goodies began to arrive. I really enjoyed my dinner here. My order focussed on the szechuan flavours that this restaurant is renown and I was not disappointed! The flavours were intense without being too greasy at all. My favourite was the lotus root dry stir fry. The only downside is that the portions are quite small, especially when you consider the price. Normally, at a Chinese restaurant, I would order 1 dish per person + rice and that would be sufficient. Here, we had to order at least 2 dishes per person.

I liked the service. The food, The classical Geongbao Chicken was satisfactory. Not as authenially spiced as I had hoped. For the dessert, banana fritter. Essentially, perfect end to the sitting, could be supplied with coffee. The prices are friendly and on a better budget one would get the set-menu for a better date. Also, found a table for me without a booking. Good reference.

The service is excellent, the food is very tasty

The preserved egg tasted average, and the seasoning was soaked for a short time. The Kung Pao chicken was sweet and spicy, not particularly authentic, and was a Cantonese flavor. Boiled beef and Mapo tofu were highly recommended. Decoration looks good.

What a delight to dine here, a rarity - it's welcoming, sensibly priced, good food with generous quantities, excellent friendly, helpful and efficient service. Tried many different dishes, in fact probably too many and also much appreciated our lovely waitress who brought us a couple complimentary dishes to try since we'd told here we loved Chineses/ Sichuan food and had lived there.

There was 10 of us for my daughter’s birthday and we all had a great meal, the food and the service was brilliant!! Thank you Lisa for being so attentive ❤️

Came here for office meal as recommended by colleague. Amazing food too. We shared e dumplings and then had the Classic ‘Imperial Gongbao’ Chicken with stir fried broccoli with fresh garlic which was delicious. Food came really quick too and good service. Would come again and totally recommend.

Visiting from the US...we didn't have a booking but the staff was very accommodating and seated us. The wait staff was friendly and service was outstanding. The food was over the top delicious, freh ingredients, not over salted and cooked to perfection. We're here on business and plan on returning before we head home. Highly recommend!

THE BEST PLACE IN LONDON FOR AN AUTHENTIC HOME COOKED ASIAN MEAL!!! While in London I go there everyday, either for lunch or dinner. The staff is the BEST! I feel like I'm at home.

The staff is very friendly and attentive! They certainly tried their best. Although we didn’t have a reservation, they tried to accommodate us and provide us with a table quickly. The food was served fairly quickly. The dishes that we had were quite alright but nothing special. The atmosphere was basic but comfortable.

Ma La Sichuan is, hands down, the best Chinese restaurant in London. While not wildly expensive, the food is always fantastic and every single dish is of a gourmet quality. Service is great, especially the lovely and hardworking hostess at the door, and my partner and I have been regulars for years now. Everyone should come here and keep this place in business! Great restaurant for locals and tourists alike.

Best dim sum platter of my life. Like another reviewer said, these dumplings were packed with flavor; it’s impossible to choose a favorite! Service was exceptional. We ordered Dan Dan Noodles, and our waiter served it into our bowls for us. Very thoughtful service throughout the dinner. Food is top notch. Flavors are balanced, delicious, and exciting. 10/10 would recommend eating here!

Staff made us feel very unwanted. We were quite casually dressed but seeing as there’s no dress code, we didn’t think this would be a problem on a Thursday night. Apparently it was. We were sent directly to the back and served with a totally dismissive attitude. The staff treated us with contempt and rolled their eyes when we asked for the basics. The owner seemed nice but it’s hard to get over such bad service.

Food in general is authentic or tasty enough for Chinese people but good enough for Westerners. Dumplings are ok, taste fresh. Service is good and fast. They use tea bags for Chinese tea and charge £2 per per person, one small tea bag one big pot for 2-3 people and it taste like just water! Hence only 2 stars.

So good! I will be back again someday. We walked in and staff were so attentive and polite. We did have a reservation and were seated promptly. Everything we ate was delicious. We had spring onion rice, dry wok chicken, stir fry noodles, sichuan chili dumplings. I was disappointed that we were so full and had no more room to try more dishes.

I didn't know what to expect from this restaurant but I've been wanting to try it since coming to London. I ate the dry wok chicken, spring onion rice, sesame dumpling, sichuanese dumplings, and stir fry noodles. The dry wok chicken was super spicy but good, don't be fooled by the two chilis. The sichuanese dumplings were my favorite, I am a fan of chili oil. The rice and noodles are what one should expect from eating at a chinese restaurant, good but not something you go there just to eat. The service was good and everyone greeted you as soon as you come in, cery welcoming. The only bad thing I can say is that I don't live in London so I can't come every week.

The mapo tofu here is so delicious,,,,be sure to try it.

Super nice service. The restaurant is typically Chinese, so rather simple. The crispy quarter duck starter was divine and way too much. The main course was fried rice with shrimp and chicken. Consistency great, but not very spicy. We were then recommended chilli oil, which, combined with soy sauce, made the dish delicious.
