My first experience here not long after it opened, wasn’t the best. Im pleased to say that this visit was the total opposite, simply fantastic! Mahe Coastal provides a range of authentic Southern Indian dishes you simply don’t find in other restaurants. With a wide range of cocktails, whiskies and some magical Mezcal, we started off with some delicious drinks. I went for a fish starter, the fish was delicate, fresh and covered in a small breadcrumb, simply delicious! I went for a Chicken Tikka Masala main as it was part of a set menu, this smashed any I’ve had in Leeds before. Next time I will ordering off the full menu and sampling some of the other amazing coastal dishes. I finished the meal off with a couple of whiskies and Mezcal recommended by owner Manoj, these provided a perfect end to the meal. Defintely try this place, you’ll want to keep coming back!

Possibly the most unique interesting cuisines I've tried in Leeds or anywhere in the UK. If you are adventurous and like to try New Food this is a must try . Lovely ambient music and setting. Service top notch and cocktails resembled the region the food was from . South Indian Coastal cuisine finds a warm place in my heart ❤️ Head Chef Karthik delivered and it was well received. What a disappointment! Once seated, we waited about 15 minutes for a menu, then a further 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The food took so long to come that we were given complimentary poppadoms & dip tray. The food arrived about half an hour later - after we twice asked how long it would take & were assured it was "on its way". The chicken was so tough that it was inedible, so we ended up with a plate of rice & chips and just the sauce from the curry. Having asked for the bill, we then waited a further 10 minutes, only to be presented with the wrong bill - twice!! When we voiced our opinions on the food & service they discounted the bill by 10%, but it wouldnt be enough to make us visit again. There are plenty of other restaurants nearby, but as we were staying in the adjoining hotel we used this one for convenience. Please don't make the same mistake

My wife and I are huge Indian food lovers and were quite excited about trying out this new restaurant. Sadly the experience fell way beyond expectations. The restaurant itself has been nicely decorated, as you would expect being new. The menu is a little different and may be considered limited, but on the face of it seemed ok. We had the popadam basket to start with a selection of 3 dips. First off the popadams were something like I could have bought from Asda but a smaller portion. The dips were no more than a couple of teaspoons each in a tiny dish. We ordered 2 main dishes and were advised that one rice and one roti would be more than enough. How wrong that was; the roti was no more than 6 inches in diameter quartered, and the rice would not have filled even the smallest appetite never mind 2 adults sharing. The main dishes were average at best but perhaps bordering on bland. On a Saturday night, when the restaurant is only one third full at 20:30pm and diners leave thinking, where can we get something else to eat, the restaurant hasn't quite got it right. I would advise the owners to visit other Indian restaurants around and see what is served to customers, they might get some good ideas. I would also consider portion size particularly on rice. Until then we would not return and would not recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely wonderful experience today for Mother’s Day! The Complimentary glass of Prosecco for me was a lovely touch! Superb service by friendly and welcoming staff…. and delicious South Indian food! A really special treat would absolutely recommend.

Firstly the service we received was warm and friendly. The food was so tasty and light. We had a selection of sharing plates which gave great variety. Main meal of curried lamb was was absolutely delicious

Lovely interior and good lighting / music level. Our first course of soft shell crab and fish in banana leaf were excellent and we loved that the waitress advised us not to order too much. We were disappointed with the biryani which was very dry and we’d have liked the option of a half pint of the coastal beer instead of a pint

We visited with friends and had a wonderful evening at MaHe. The food was amazing and so were all the staff. Very different from the usual Indian cuisine which we really enjoyed a lot. The chef Arjun even went out of his way to cook us some special dishes not on the regular menu. Looking forward to your new menu and plan to visit again soon.

Best South Indian food in Leeds - took me back to my travels in south India - dishes from Bangalore and Kerala . Sooo yummy ! Allepey prawns amazing !

Me and my partner came here the other night and this was our first time trying coastal Indian cuisine and we already can’t wait to come back again!! Every dish was bursting with flavour, the staff were attentive and would happily advise on which dishes are hot or mild. We started with the Soft Shell Crab Porichathu and Chicken 65 Varuval, and then the Irachi Ishtew and Allepey Prawn Curry for our mains. We have never had anything like it before, the best Indian dishes we have ever eaten. The waiting staff are brilliant and were so welcoming and helpful throughout the entire evening. Highly recommend as the perfect dining out spot, the whole evening was absolutely incredible and we enjoyed every second of it :)

We visited for the lunchtime sitting to a very limited but pricey menu. £16 for a tiny soup bowl of korma with 4 pieces of grisly chicken thigh, which was bland and tasteless, as was the accompanying parrota. Price point definitely too high for the offering, very small portions, it’s not a high end taste experience. We were in and out in around 40 mins and left disappointed and still hungry!!

Indian food like you’ve never had before. Just delicious! Everything was unusual, and just so tasty. The house beer was the perfect accompaniment and our beautiful waitress Gayatri made the evening memorable. Highly recommend.

Excellent place for an authentic South indian meal which is as good as food cooked at home . The staff were very understanding since we were 3 families with 5 children amongst us with a large order in place with various customizations! Simran and Shabad explained the dishes on the menu and were so prompt with everything. This place is definitely our new personal favourite in Leeds and we know we are going to come back again.
