Found this restaurant near to the hotel we were staying (Mercure), as it had been recommended by a walking tour guide. Excellent staff, greeting on arrival etc, great food and realistic prices, wide beer selection etc. although we were not drinking as we were en route somewhere else. We had the local ‘scouse’ which is a beef and vegetable stew, and very nice too. Thank you.

Ma Boyle's Alehouse And Eatery is located on Tower Garden's by the really impressive Our Lady of Saint Nicholas church. This is a superb pub that offer's a brilliant food and drink's range and it was very busy when we visited here in the afternoon. The pub itself was originally located in Old Hall street and was opened in 1870 and for many years traded as an Oyster house but moved to its present location in 1974 as the train station opened. This pub is a fantastic place to visit as they have a brilliant outside terrace area which gives stunning views of the church. This pub has a superb interior with many interesting fixtures and features and when we went to here the christmas decorations where up.It has an excellent basement area which has had a bit of work done and to top it off the staff are superb in here. When we visited here we had a few glasses of cask ale's which were superb and where really well priced. This is a superb pub thats in a superb area of the city centre and well worth going to.(This is my fifth review of Ma Boyle's Alehouse And Eatery). We called in this venue due to a recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. It’s in a good area but not easy to find if you don’t know your way around so best to use the satnav or maps. Not far at all from the train stations or popular streets in the city centre. My hubby and I were showing a good friend around Liverpool and we stopped off here for a late lunch early dinner and the food was fresh, well cooked and delicious . It was also great value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful and we all really enjoyed it and will visit again in future.

What a find. We were sitting in our hotel room Googling eateries and Ma Boyles was 5 minutes away. Thought we'd walk round and wow, we're SO glad we did! Really warm welcome from all the staff and the Hunters Chicken we eventually decided on was excellent. Freshly cooked and served with care. They made us feel really welcome and showed they cared about their food and service. We were "persuaded" to share a fruit crumble and custard which went down well with the final white wine. Nothing I can say that exaggerates how good it all was. Try it you'll live the experience

This is a really lovely restaurant/bar we found quite by accident. Originally we just stopped for coffee. We returned each morning of our stay, then decided to have dinner there one evening. It is a great stop for coffee, lunch or dinner. We had burgers on our evening visit they were HUGE! Served with a big portion of chunky chips with skin on. They also serve the most wonderful Sunday lunches and have other great offerings. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.

Visited this gem tucked away off Water Street and nestled by the beautiful St. Nick’s church gardens to sample their legendary Scouse ~ We tried the following: 》Scouse Pie 》Sticky Toffee Pudding 》Apple and Peach Crumble They offer 3 types of Scouse but we decided to go for the one with the Pie (traditional beef scouse topped with a flaky puff pastry lid served with seasonal veggies and chunky chips). Quite rich with chunks of meat and veggies on it complimented by a side of greens and chips - such a hearty bowl of goodness, so satisfied with it. For desserts, we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple & Peach Crumble which were both equally scrumptious with just the right amount of sweetness to 'em. Washed our meal down with a refreshing "Perfect Storm" cocktail and beer. Ma Boyle’s caters for breakfast brunchers, lunch catch ups and later get-togethers with delectable bistro food and a fab range of drinks & irresistible cocktails. It’s an intimate hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life which features weekly jazz nights too. The attentive and accomodating staff made our dining experience here so enjoyable.

Not a great place. Called in for drinks. Considering it calls itself an alehouse, they only had one real ale on which had turned and tasted awful. Toilets smelt and there was no hand soap in ladies loo. Didn't eat here due to above but had planned to book Sunday lunch. Changed our minds after ale and toilet experience.

What a wonderful place to go for brunch. We opted for the bottomless version and it was great value. There was a good selection of food - which was delicious - and a range of cocktails as well as the more classic prosecco and beer. On the day we went, it was very busy with a large party that clearly kept the staff busy but the staff were attentiv to us all. Two members of staff in particular - Tom and Maddie - stood out with their attentive service and their obvious desire to ensure we got the absolute best experience we could. My twin brother Stephen and I were exploring around this area of the city when with temperatures dipping ,November weather was awful,we dropped into Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery and what a great time we had. A great looking pub set over two floors ,decor and furnishings are amazing ,the cellar area is awesome ,a speakeasy look to it ,there's great looking serving bars and lots of seating options both inside and outside looking out on to the beautiful St Nicholas Church . We ordered a pale ale each ,these were served in pristine condition ,despite the cold weather we sat outside were we enjoyed our pale ale's and planned out the day ahead. My pale ale was really good ,well balanced ,hoppy but not overhopped ,hints of toffee ,a delicious aroma and aftertaste ,just a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but after an interaction with the "Bar Manager" it most definitely isn't worth it. First, Olly, the barman who served us downstairs the entire day, was very tolerant of the increasing drunkenness. He did a great job. However, the problem arose when I asked for a simple double Baileys. It's an easy request. A double Baileys, that's 2 x 50ml measures in the same glass. Olly wasn't sure and gave me 1 x 50 ml measure. I asked him to clarify that what I was saying was correct with his manager, which he did. However, the interaction with her was ridiculous. She told me that a 50ml measure is a double. I think what she was trying to convey was that ordinarily, a 50ml measure is a double for most spirits which I understand, having worked in hospitality for 25 years. She decided that she'd be patronising but showed me the measure and pointed at the measurements engraved into the side. I explained, again that a single measure for Baileys is 50ml so a double would be 100ml. She proceeded to show me the till which confirmed what I was saying. But instead of apologising, she doubled down on her claim. Maybe a bit of extra training for her would go down a treat. She just wouldn't admit that my asking for a double and expecting 100ml of Baileys was correct.

We visited today as a special occasion (my dads 75th birthday) and I can’t rate it highly enough, wish I could give 10 stars. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed warmly and shown to our table, with a bowl of water waiting for our dog. Our food was amazing (I can’t believe the generous portions of meat with our roast dinners) and the gravy was exceptional. Our wine and other drinks were lovely. I do need to make a special mention to our wonderful waitress Rachael , a really amazing young woman from Bristol who made our day extra special, so kind, accommodating and utterly professional, an absolute asset to your team! All the staff were great, but she really took care of us, even bringing my dad a lovely “happy birthday” plate even though he was too full (and very pleasantly so) from his roast to eat any more 🤣. Thank you so much and we will absolutely return (we have our eye on the scouse pie!) Best wishes to all the team xx

The hard hit hospitality sector was given a lifeline by the government, from the 12th of April some of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions were lifted with outside service only so it was just so good to be out and about again enjoying the fantastic pubs our city is justifiably famous for and one pub I was eagerly looking forward to visiting was Ma Boyles Alehouse And Eatery, a pub I always enjoy visiting. My beer was exceptional, a classic light, hoppy and unpretentious lager style beer bursting with taste, very easy to drink, a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and to be honest socialising again albeit socially distanced. Stopped in here for drinks and some snacks and I was impressed with how normal the experience felt, whilst also feeling safe. There are a number of safety rules including track and trace, sanitiser, social distancing and table service. I can't fault the service and we had a lovely experience sitting outside.

Great experience! We pre-booked a table for lunch after visiting Western Approaches nearby. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We were greeted on arrival & taken through the simple COVID-19 protection steps including hand sanitisation & registration of the party leader. We visited on an 'Eat Out To Help Out' day which made our meal even better value. It would still have been good value at full price though. The home made burgers are amazing as are the twice-cooked chips. And the Oreo cheesecake was lovely. We'll definitely visit again.

My twin brother Stephen and I had just been wandering around the beautiful Our Lady And St Nicholas Church And Gardens and as the rain started to hammer it down ,typical English summer weather we thought we would dive into Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery and what a great visit we had .I love the look of this pub ,the interior is superb, set over two floors ,wonderful decor and furnishings throughout the two levels and three rooms ,an eye catching serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the beautiful church. My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Monday afternoon, pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name, phone number or email address to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands, we were led to a table were we ordered a pale ale each,we payed contactless, our pale ale's were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My pale ale was outstanding, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee a delicious aroma and aftertaste, a classic British pale ale, it was just so good being in such a wonderful pub enjoying a quality brew.On this visit I cannot really comment on the meals as we were here only for beers but I have ate here on previoys visits and the meals are just superb .We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery is easy to locate along Tower Buildings,Tower Gardens .Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 11 30am till 11pm. Friday, 11.30am till Midnight. Saturday, 10am till Midnight. Sunday, 10am till 11pm. A great pub, well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of my favourite pubs in Liverpool is Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery, a pub I always feel totally at home in.I love the look of this pub ,its a beautifully appointed pub ,its set over two floors ,the 1st floor is basically a two roomed pub ,a solid wood serving bar, great decor and furnishings including great tiling ,nice decorative features ,exposed brickwork, dark wood panelling, the downstairs is even more cosy, again an eye catching serving bar, lovely furnishings and decorated tastefully throughout, theres also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out over to the fantastic Our Lady And St Nicholas Church, its just one really good pub. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, I think the whole of Liverpool were out drinking a beer or two before P M Boris closed down our country in a bid to halt the spread of the coronavirus visited upon us. Greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of staff, after a quick study of their beers I opted to have Liverpool Brewing Co " Liverpool bier head " bitter 4.2% ABV while my brother went for Portobello Brewing Co " star amber ale " 4.3% ABV ,both these beers were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My beer was really good ,a smooth and well balanced bitter ,consistent from the first sip till the last sup, a totally refreshing bitter indeed, my twin brother Stephen also gave me the thumbs up to this beer .We both really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to Ma Boyle's Alehouse And Eatery we had a great time. Ma Boyle's Alehouse And Eatery is easy to locate along Tower Buildings,Covent Garden its adjacent to Our Lady And St Nicholas Church. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 11.30am till 11pm. Friday, 11.30am till Midnight. Saturday, 10am till Midnight. Sunday, 10am till 11pm. A great pub,one I I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

A nice historic little pub in a quiet, off street location next to St Nicholas Church. Decent range of beers. Friendly greeting. Now I know it's only a pub and all we ordered to eat were burgers, but they were absolutely top notch. 2-for-1 burgers on Tuesday night meant that we both ate and drank for less than one meal in many a pub. Definitely recommended.

Not impressed. Place is lovely as are the staff (although good luck actually getting a table as nearly all were reserved). Breakfast very underwhelming as it sounded fabulous. Mostly cold, small and the 'slow roasted tomatoes' had just been in the same room as someone with a fever to cook. The teaspoon of hash was the hottest thing on the plate.

Really nice food. We used a voucher from the confidentials app (worth checking for deals). Staff were friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant isn't suitable for wheelchair users. Wouldn't recommend for people with reduced mobility, unless you book a table (steps to lower floor looked very steep). Would highly recommend brunch!

Popped by today with some friends for food. Got to give it to my mate for picking this place because OH MY LORD the roast was phenomenal!!! I'm in and out of liverpool quite regularly now and I will 100% be recommending this place!! First time here and certainly won't be the last. The servers were fantastic too. Felicity, Ellie and Sarah were just on it. Great food, great company, great service and a great atmosphere that was set by the team there. Truly outstanding. I've been to a few restaurants in the area recently and were disappointed with nearly everything they offered. This place however completely outshines them!! Can't wait to be back!

Bought a deal from Liverpool confidential and so glad I did as the good was amazing. I would of happily paid full price, it was so good. My partner had the cheese and bacon burger and I had the chicken, ham and Leek pie which was amazing!!The atmosphere was so lovely and we over heard a conversation between the management and other customers where he was telling them about all the amazing things to do and visit in Liverpool which was so friendly.Even though it was our waiter's first day, you couldn't tell. He was extremely friendly and professional and a great addition to your team.I would definitely recommend this gorgeous little gem.

I was very let down by my first visit to Ma Boyle's after reading many great reviews. We arrived and were seated quickly, but our young waitress absolutely STUNK of stale alcohol; it was clear she had been out late the night before. She spilled every drink she brought to the table and not once did she clean any of the spills up. We placed our orders and after waiting 10 minutes, she came out to tell us they had no black pudding. We were the first visitors for brunch at the start of the weekend so we were shocked and disappointed by this, as it was a favourite menu item for most of us.

Food was really good, unfortunately the waitress was to busy “Chatting up “ the male guests (flirting for over-sea readers). Which resulted in us having to ask for Salt and pepper twice, it was never actually delivered to our table which spoilt the hand-cut,skinned chips other than that a good place to eat!!!

Whilst the venue itself is lovely, the service and food was terrible. Having been ignored several times when the staff member came over to serve other tables and take their orders, we ended up having to go to the bar. We both ordered the Classic Scouse which is described as 'Slow cooked chunks of British beef....fresh crusty bread & butter'. In both our portions there was one chunk of beef, and the bread was dry with no butter. For £8.50 it was definitely overpriced and disappointing. Will not go back.
