Visited this gem tucked away off Water Street and nestled by the beautiful St. Nick’s church gardens to sample their legendary Scouse ~ We tried the following: 》Scouse Pie 》Sticky Toffee Pudding 》Apple and Peach Crumble They offer 3 types of Scouse but we decided to go for the one with the Pie (traditional beef scouse topped with a flaky puff pastry lid served with seasonal veggies and chunky chips). Quite rich with chunks of meat and veggies on it complimented by a side of greens and chips - such a hearty bowl of goodness, so satisfied with it. For desserts, we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple & Peach Crumble which were both equally scrumptious with just the right amount of sweetness to 'em. Washed our meal down with a refreshing "Perfect Storm" cocktail and beer. Ma Boyle’s caters for breakfast brunchers, lunch catch ups and later get-togethers with delectable bistro food and a fab range of drinks & irresistible cocktails. It’s an intimate hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life which features weekly jazz nights too. The attentive and accomodating staff made our dining experience here so enjoyable.

Not a great place. Called in for drinks. Considering it calls itself an alehouse, they only had one real ale on which had turned and tasted awful. Toilets smelt and there was no hand soap in ladies loo. Didn't eat here due to above but had planned to book Sunday lunch. Changed our minds after ale and toilet experience.

What a wonderful place to go for brunch. We opted for the bottomless version and it was great value. There was a good selection of food - which was delicious - and a range of cocktails as well as the more classic prosecco and beer. On the day we went, it was very busy with a large party that clearly kept the staff busy but the staff were attentiv to us all. Two members of staff in particular - Tom and Maddie - stood out with their attentive service and their obvious desire to ensure we got the absolute best experience we could. I cannot recommend it enough.

Very close to where I live so could easily be regular. Have revisited and had the Christmas meal - wow soooo good. My twin brother Stephen and I were exploring around this area of the city when with temperatures dipping ,November weather was awful,we dropped into Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery and what a great time we had. A great looking pub set over two floors ,decor and furnishings are amazing ,the cellar area is awesome ,a speakeasy look to it ,there's great looking serving bars and lots of seating options both inside and outside looking out on to the beautiful St Nicholas Church . We ordered a pale ale each ,these were served in pristine condition ,despite the cold weather we sat outside were we enjoyed our pale ale's and planned out the day ahead. My pale ale was really good ,well balanced ,hoppy but not overhopped ,hints of toffee ,a delicious aroma and aftertaste ,just a classic British pale ale served in a classic British pub. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery is easy to locate along Tower Gardens. Opening hours are; Monday to Friday, open from 11am. Saturday & Sunday ,open from 10am. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but after an interaction with the "Bar Manager" it most definitely isn't worth it. First, Olly, the barman who served us downstairs the entire day, was very tolerant of the increasing drunkenness. He did a great job. However, the problem arose when I asked for a simple double Baileys. It's an easy request. A double Baileys, that's 2 x 50ml measures in the same glass. Olly wasn't sure and gave me 1 x 50 ml measure. I asked him to clarify that what I was saying was correct with his manager, which he did. However, the interaction with her was ridiculous. She told me that a 50ml measure is a double. I think what she was trying to convey was that ordinarily, a 50ml measure is a double for most spirits which I understand, having worked in hospitality for 25 years. She decided that she'd be patronising but showed me the measure and pointed at the measurements engraved into the side. I explained, again that a single measure for Baileys is 50ml so a double would be 100ml. She proceeded to show me the till which confirmed what I was saying. But instead of apologising, she doubled down on her claim. Maybe a bit of extra training for her would go down a treat. She just wouldn't admit that my asking for a double and expecting 100ml of Baileys was correct.

We visited today as a special occasion (my dads 75th birthday) and I can’t rate it highly enough, wish I could give 10 stars. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed warmly and shown to our table, with a bowl of water waiting for our dog. Our food was amazing (I can’t believe the generous portions of meat with our roast dinners) and the gravy was exceptional. Our wine and other drinks were lovely. I do need to make a special mention to our wonderful waitress Rachael , a really amazing young woman from Bristol who made our day extra special, so kind, accommodating and utterly professional, an absolute asset to your team! All the staff were great, but she really took care of us, even bringing my dad a lovely “happy birthday” plate even though he was too full (and very pleasantly so) from his roast to eat any more 🤣. Thank you so much and we will absolutely return (we have our eye on the scouse pie!) Best wishes to all the team xx

The hard hit hospitality sector was given a lifeline by the government, from the 12th of April some of the coronavirus lockdown restrictions were lifted with outside service only so it was just so good to be out and about again enjoying the fantastic pubs our city is justifiably famous for and one pub I was eagerly looking forward to visiting was Ma Boyles Alehouse And Eatery, a pub I always enjoy visiting. I love the look of this pub ,set over two floors, wonderful furnishings and decorated tastefully throughout, lots of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the beautiful Our Lady And St Nicholas Church, this is were we luckily managed to get a table, we track and traced and a really bubbly and pleasant member of the bar team took our orders of a beer each, we chose a wonderful Italian beer called Birra Angelo Poretti ,these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My beer was exceptional, a classic light, hoppy and unpretentious lager style beer bursting with taste, very easy to drink, a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and to be honest socialising again albeit socially distanced. We really enjoyed our beers in here and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Ma Boyles Alehouse And Eatery is easy to locate along Tower Gardens. Boris has laid down the roadmap out of the pandemic for the hospitality sector with pubs being allowed to reopen on the 12th of April with outside service only and from the 17th of May inside and outside service allowed and by June 21st more or less back to normality so it will be great again to visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, one of my favourite pubs is Ma Boyles Alehouse & Eatery. This is a very cool pub ,the interior is superb, set over two floors, multi roomed, wonderful decor and a cool looking serving bar on each floor and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the magnificent Our Lady And St Nicholas Church. Our last visit here was wonderful, just before the 3rd national lockdown descended, great food, superb real ale's and fabulous service by staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their pub, had a great time in here and hopefully when the 12th of April arrives this pub opens taking full advantage of its outside seating area ,if so I eagerly look forward to visiting here again. Ma Boyles Alehouse & Eatery is easy to locate along Tower Gardens and is most definitely well worth checking out when the 3rd and final lockdown is lifted.

Without a shadow of a doubt one of my favourite pubs in Liverpool is Ma Boyle's Alehouse & Eatery, a pub I always feel totally at home in.I love the look of this pub ,its a beautifully appointed pub ,its set over two floors ,the 1st floor is basically a two roomed pub ,a solid wood serving bar, great decor and furnishings including great tiling ,nice decorative features ,exposed brickwork, dark wood panelling, the downstairs is even more cosy, again an eye catching serving bar, lovely furnishings and decorated tastefully throughout, theres also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out over to the fantastic Our Lady And St Nicholas Church, its just one really good pub. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, I think the whole of Liverpool were out drinking a beer or two before P M Boris closed down our country in a bid to halt the spread of the coronavirus visited upon us. Greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of staff, after a quick study of their beers I opted to have Liverpool Brewing Co " Liverpool bier head " bitter 4.2% ABV while my brother went for Portobello Brewing Co " star amber ale " 4.3% ABV ,both these beers were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and took in the great pub we were in. My beer was really good ,a smooth and well balanced bitter ,consistent from the first sip till the last sup, a totally refreshing bitter indeed, my twin brother Stephen also gave me the thumbs up to this beer .We both really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to Ma Boyle's Alehouse And Eatery we had a great time. Not impressed. Place is lovely as are the staff (although good luck actually getting a table as nearly all were reserved). Breakfast very underwhelming as it sounded fabulous. Mostly cold, small and the 'slow roasted tomatoes' had just been in the same room as someone with a fever to cook. The teaspoon of hash was the hottest thing on the plate.

Really nice food. We used a voucher from the confidentials app (worth checking for deals). Staff were friendly. Unfortunately the restaurant isn't suitable for wheelchair users. Wouldn't recommend for people with reduced mobility, unless you book a table (steps to lower floor looked very steep). Would highly recommend brunch!

Out in Liverpool with friends and found this wonderful eatery. One of the best Sunday Roast's I have had in a long time and service was excellent especially Felicity, Sarah and Ellie who all made sure that our experience was one to remember. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Popped by today with some friends for food. Got to give it to my mate for picking this place because OH MY LORD the roast was phenomenal!!! I'm in and out of liverpool quite regularly now and I will 100% be recommending this place!! First time here and certainly won't be the last. The servers were fantastic too. Felicity, Ellie and Sarah were just on it. Great food, great company, great service and a great atmosphere that was set by the team there. Truly outstanding. I've been to a few restaurants in the area recently and were disappointed with nearly everything they offered. This place however completely outshines them!! Can't wait to be back!

Bought a deal from Liverpool confidential and so glad I did as the good was amazing. I would of happily paid full price, it was so good. My partner had the cheese and bacon burger and I had the chicken, ham and Leek pie which was amazing!!The atmosphere was so lovely and we over heard a conversation between the management and other customers where he was telling them about all the amazing things to do and visit in Liverpool which was so friendly.Even though it was our waiter's first day, you couldn't tell. He was extremely friendly and professional and a great addition to your team.I would definitely recommend this gorgeous little gem.

I was very let down by my first visit to Ma Boyle's after reading many great reviews. We arrived and were seated quickly, but our young waitress absolutely STUNK of stale alcohol; it was clear she had been out late the night before. She spilled every drink she brought to the table and not once did she clean any of the spills up. We placed our orders and after waiting 10 minutes, she came out to tell us they had no black pudding. We were the first visitors for brunch at the start of the weekend so we were shocked and disappointed by this, as it was a favourite menu item for most of us.

Food spot on! Staff dead friendly and cocktails divine! My fave little place. I think there’s been a change in staff - last time we went there was a lot of attitude but this time it was like another world!

Food was really good, unfortunately the waitress was to busy “Chatting up “ the male guests (flirting for over-sea readers). Which resulted in us having to ask for Salt and pepper twice, it was never actually delivered to our table which spoilt the hand-cut,skinned chips other than that a good place to eat!!!

Whilst the venue itself is lovely, the service and food was terrible. Having been ignored several times when the staff member came over to serve other tables and take their orders, we ended up having to go to the bar. We both ordered the Classic Scouse which is described as 'Slow cooked chunks of British beef....fresh crusty bread & butter'. In both our portions there was one chunk of beef, and the bread was dry with no butter. For £8.50 it was definitely overpriced and disappointing. Will not go back.

Love the atmosphere here. Brunch was lovely and presented well. I tried the veggie brunch and it didn't dissapoint me. Reasonably priced. Lovely Christmas's feel to the place with the big tree.

The hubby used to use this pub many years ago and we decided to try it again on a recent visit to Liverpool. Two of us had the Scouse and one of our party had the gluten-free version, the other had steak and ale pie. All our meals were excellent value for money and the service we received from the staff was first class. Would suggest you book if possible as it was very busy even though we had booked for 6pm, thinking it would be quieter. Bustling little place with a good selection of food.

An old bar eatery which did not come up to my past memories. Staff were very friendly and if you are 20 don’t be off put by this entry. Potions are large but food does not come up to expectations of 60 year old.

Starting with the good, nice clean place and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately the food and service were lacking. Starters brought out, no cutlery, had to ask for side plates for nacho sharer, but the food was okay. Main courses, it's a very small menu choice which is fine but then all the items should be available. No lids for the pies or scouse, stuffed chicken had no stuffing (not advised when ordering) and it wasn't eaten but no acknowledgement, offer of replacement or refund, beef was tasteless and was on the verge of being shredded. Roast potatoes were like bullets, the mash potatoes were actually champ (bonus, but again not advised), had to ask for condiments and no check back on the main course. Very disappointing.

Great place to eat not far from the waterfront. Located just behind the "seaman's church". Serves good food at realistic prices, also a good selection of guest ales as well as a range of other drinks. Very friendly, recommend.

! ¡Y el Prosecco siguió viniendo! . . . Definitivamente volveré pronto! ¡Gracias! ! !

Went tonight and was disappointed that though website states live jazz bands not tonight if was only a quiz . Had a meal but portions were small and left still feeling hungry. £30 for 2 drinks and 2 meals in our opinion not value for money and will not go again or recommend. Also I do not think dogs should be allowed in especially when you are dining. There were 3 dogs in tonight barking at each other so not relaxing.

I live near to Ma’s, and regularly have a pint of San Miguel and sit in the churchyard next door. We have eaten there several times and it has recently become dog friendly. A few friends sat outside on a very warm Saturday evening, enjoying drinks and nachos, under the lights and listening to the live jazz. It was busy but very enjoyable.

Walked in and had a style and vibe all of its own. We’d booked and were taken to a friendly dining area with candles on the table, the prices were 2 for one on the burgers whereas I had chicken fricasse. All dishes were presented well. Other meals varied from ma’s scouse to sausage and mash and steaks and fish and chicken options. Well priced, welcoming and attentive staff. Would go again. Great choice of stouts and beers locally produced.
