Lysander Arms in York

Went in to have a couple drinks with some friends and just have a nice chill evening and playing a game of pool. The man with the glasses who I assume is the owner of the pub was extremely rude to my friends and I telling us we were disrespecting his pool table when really we knocked one of the balls off the table by accident which can happen. He told us that we’re being disrespectful and to have our drinks and get out swearing under his breath and being very very rude. It was our first and last time in there would not recommended to anyone as it was a horrible experience and he was very arrogant.

A last minute change of plans brought us here for a family catch up,never been before. Impressive dining area,relaxing and pretty. Food good,Steak pie,fish and chips,burgers and chicken nuggets for a child. Ordered our sweets and was disappointed with my cheesecake,sounded like it was going to be full of flavour but it was a small portion and tasted of nothing,the base was so hard it wasn't a pleasure to eat,£8 worth,I don't think so!! On a lighter note,the staff were wonderful,couldn't fault them,10/10! We will call again as we enjoyed it overall. 🙂

Stumbled upon this pub by accident as it's tucked away out of the busy Clifton moor roads. The food was amazing and there was a nice friendly atmosphere

First time we have visited the Lysander arms for a spot of lunch, brilliant, good food well presented. Good decor and the garden would be good in the summer. Staff smart dress code and very helpful. The heating was on which does make it cosy will definitely go again

Friendly staff, and a warm atmosphere. The food was very tasty, and very nicely cooked. Starter, main and pudding, all delicious. UPDATE: another lovely time at Lysander Arms. Very accommodating, friendly and pleasant staff, and once again delicious food (it's worth a visit for the onion rings alone!). The setting was also lovely at this time of year (Christmas). And again. Consistently good. This time it was a carvery and every part of the meal was full of flavour and cooked just right. Very impressed. And good value too. One more. Arranged a large group booking here and the staff set things up for us very nicely. And the food once again, was wonderful. I can't recommend Lysander Arms enough.

Lovely little restaurant in a pub, food is excellent.

We had been here a few times and had never had a problem. Food was always really good and the staff friendly, efficient and approachable. Sadly, it was not to be so on this occasion. We were greeted and seated very quickly, no complaints there. Drinks order was taken and delivered. The menu is good, with plenty of variety. Our order was taken. When the food arrived, the flaky the pie; half of it was black. The bhaji's looked appetising but did not have a yoghurt dipping sauce, there was some chopped lettuce and some drizzled yoghurt across the top and underneath the bhajis. The salmon dish p over par. The salmon was a very small square piece and was not appetising in the slightest, it was extremely brown on one side and just looked over cooked and dry. When stating this to the Server, she was very apologetic, she would speak to the chef and took the dish with her. The dish was then returned to the table by a different Server who said "the Chef said the salmon always looks like this, it was how they served it". When mentioned, the piece of salmon was very small for the price they were charging, the Server replied "salmon is very expensive and we have never had any other complaints. This waitress had also blamed her lack of knowledge regarding the menus earlier being due to the fact they had very recently. The salmon was then cut into and found to be extremely dry and overcooked. We were eventually able to attract the attention of a Server and explain this. They agreed to take the meal away and replace it with another one, but to bear in mind, this would be at least a 15 minute wait which was accepted. The fresh meal arrived and we ate. The plates were eventually cleared and another round of drinks was ordered which never arrived, but we were charged for on the original bill. We had to ask for the desert menu and hot drinks. The cheesecake was bland and tasteless. The poached pear was very watery and tasteless, although cooked well. The first bill we received, we were charged for 2 1/2 pints of lager and 2 x coke. We requested a bill adjustment which then was paid. We will not be visiting for a while, but do believe in off days and second chances. The place was packed as it was steak night.

Very crowded and food dished out

Had a fantastic 2 night stay on the caravan site. The pitches were perfect, with everything needed. Dustbin,waste water,chemical toilet waste, hook up, aerial for tv, good w ifi reception, fresh water all on the personal pitch. Toilet and shower block well maintained. The pub itself also excellent. Beautiful meals and good choice of beers. 5 min walk to supermarkets, 10 min walk to a beautiful lake. Our dog loved it. The whole experience was super. Thankyou to all the staff and well done.

Very nice pub and very busy. It is a little off the beaten track but worth the visit. We had a Sunday roast dinner, which was nice, but as we caught it as it was coming to a close, the food was probably not at it's best. This would certainly not stop me returning, as I am sure it has a lot more in the way of food to offer. Summer's must be a delight here as the beer garden looks lovely. Parking is a bit of a problem, as it has limited spaces.

Always fantasic food, steak night deal on a Wednesday, and the Sunday lunch is very popular.

A pleasant restaurant with good food. Not a huge menu which works well. The bar is nice and friendly with plenty of room. Staff were very polite .

Staff brilliant in the circumstances, very friendly. The food was superb, had two meals in there now, both super tasty. Beer and wine very good. The pub itself is very smart both inside and out.

Had a nice carvery here. They went above and beyond for our relatives who needed Gluten free too.

We called in for lunch after visiting gear4 music. There was an excellent choice of beers lager and cider including hand pulled cask conditioned real ales which were excellent when we visited. The food was top-notch and very filling. There's a nice outside seating area in the pub garden and plenty of parking we will definitely be returning.

Weight watchers portions. 5 wedge chips on my surf and turf. Very poor but excellent flavour just not enough food to tell.

Stayed at the motorhome site here. All very good. We also had Sunday lunch, carvery isn't my favourite way to eat but it was good and I can't really fault it. I will definitely return.

Good food, good atmosphere and good service. This is close to my daughter's house so have been there a few times with family. I would recommend it.

Had Sunday carvery today which was delicious. Decided to have rice pudding to follow hoping for a proper home made creamy rice pudding but unfortunately it was the worst I have ever had. It was tasteless, overcooked and gluggy. A shame as the main course was fabulous, I obviously just chose the wrong pudding.

Carvery on Sunday was lovely. Food was great. Good choice of meats all very hot and fresh too. Good value for money.

Stayed over at the campsite, excellent facilities. Had lunch Saturday, good food, good service & good value. Staff very friendly & helpful. Pub has all sports channels showing, good sized beer garden with play area for kids. Park & ride into York nearby. Highly recommend.

Stayed at the caravan site for the weekend. Popped into Lysander arms for a drink when we got there and ordered food as it looked so good. Brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff. Tried to book for Sunday lunch but full. Obviously popular. Would definitely go back.

We stayed here for 2 nights, the facilities are excellent, very clean. 10 mins walk up the road to Park and Ride into York. Excellent Carvery on the Sunday. Small problem with our motorhome when we were leaving, the owner was extremely helpful to help us back on our journey. Would definitely reccomend this lovely place .

The food was nice, could do with more of a selection, burgers etc. Atmosphere was lovely , very relaxed, would definitely go again

First time of visiting this place I went with a friend for lunch very impressed Food very nice Staff helpful and friendly and Lovely relaxing surroundings Think I will try the evening menu with my husband soon

If you are a foodie, DON'T GO FOR CHAR GRILLED CHICKEN main meal. They serve it in a pasta plate and there's next to nothing in it. Medium sized chicken breast with a few cubes of potatoes and filled with soggy red cabbage. The fact that they charged £18 just for that is a bit offensive. In addition, their Pies are just stew with a puff pastry lid. Not a real Yorkshire pie. Gutted. Everything else looked good though. The haddock looked great, the burgers looked amazing. Just a shame it had a few misses and I got caught in it. Round 2. The Mint and Lemon Cake.... really odd combination, was hoping to be blown away, just not my cup of tea 😕 . Food came in at different times and difficult to get a hold of staff to be able to pay and go.

Really love this pub/restaurant. Great choice of menu. Such warm welcoming staff. Great restaurant area. Can't fault this place.

A lovely local pub, close to York, that has a small number of pitches for caravans and motorhomes

Bit pricey but fab food with great staff so not many complaints here. Beer was good but driving so not really qualified to judge. Easy parking and a lively bar too.

Excellent pub with its own campsite which is great, 10 minute walk to bus stops in to York, the food is excellent, we had 2 stakes and a btl of wine £45 perfectly cooked, definitely worth a visit thanks to all the staff, all the best for 2024.

Stumbled across this pub quite by accident but will definitely return, probably with my touring caravan for a few days.

Had the Soup of the day, mushroom, with a toasted ciabatta. Delicious.

Nicely presented meal chips not to my liking as very chunky and dark brown.

Great lively pub, and fantastic food and service to boot. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

We stayed in our caravan for a couple of nights, late November, amenities good on site, we bit small &tight if you've got a larger caravan but we managed to get ours in,we did get the plot on the end near toilet block which helped as we don't have a motor mover on van,pub was brilliant, friendly staff,great food,only a short walk up the road to park & ride,so easy to get into York centre, definitely stay again,

We were taken here by some friends who live locally. Lovely welcome. Food was gorgeous. Two of us had the pork belly, one had chicken breasts and one had the fashion steak. Our friends say they will come again. Highly recommended.

I went on a Wednesday and I think it was fillet steak night for two. You get 2×steaks skinny fries sides pepper sauce + a bottle of wine for a set price . Good value and spot on

The owners and staff are outstanding, super friendly, helpful to everyone and relaxed environment. Exceptionally clean everywhere. The cleaner is also very friendly. I stayed in the caravan park, such a lovely vibe. Bathroom exceptionally clean, grounds immaculate, pretty and very friendly gardener. Beautiful place to stay. Haven’t eaten here yet but the food always looks and smells delicious. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff put on a pretty decent, pen and paper quiz on a Thursday night.

Got recommended by friends to try Sunday lunch and we wasn't disappointed. Food excellent and hot. Service excellent. Will definitely be coming back

Sunday lunch carvery was excellent finished off with rhubarb and custard trifle highly recommended.

Good services, the right price. The pity is that they don't let you choose a plot and if you are next to the bathroom and the entrance, as was our case, it is quite noisy because of the bathrooms and the garbage or beer trucks that get up very early. It's a shame there's no kitchen on Mondays or Tuesdays.

This is my local and so I love it as it is within walking distance from home. A modern gastropub with good food and great beer garden. Less busy during the day.

Great atmosphere and staff are brilliant. Had a great selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks 🙂 food was okay 👍 what you'd expect from a local well run pub. I would recommend it for relaxed dining.

Nice bar, friendly and polite staff. Lovely outside space and plenty of parking The menu looked good but I was disappointed with the chicken kebab on flatbread. All of the chicken meat was brown& rather chewy rather than any breast meat. As it had been fried or grilled it shrivelled up into lumpy chewy pieces, at £16 this was expensive for what it was.

What an oasis! A fine watering hole with an atmosphere and look that you're happy taking your partner too. The drinks range is standard big brewery fare. Steak night when it's back on is one to look out for.

Steak night was very good value for money staff were very attentive. My personal preference would of been better choice of desserts.
