The choice of chippies in Lymm is limited, and with Lymm Fish & Chips having the most Google ratings and reviews, I chose to visit. Unfortunately, it may have been the wrong choice. The salt and pepper chips were a small portion, and the first few tasted overwhelmingly sweet. There were few peppers and onions, and the sugar was followed by an intense salty taste. The haddock and cod fillets were small and thin, with oily and doughy batter, and excessively salted. The curry sauce was decent but also too salty. Despite its name, "Lymm Fish & Chips" prioritises Chinese food. I can't comment on the Chinese food, as I had only tried the fish and salt and pepper chips. Sound advice ,RIP OFF keep your money and go buy bag of potatoes and a cod from Aldi you make 6 fish and chips with pees for what they charge for half of their portion. Take cash only which should be illegal as banks can’t trace the money. Everyone I see these days are pretending all basic goods have gone up but not 170% we all need a Lage pay rise to exist.

Quite a few years since I reviewed this place, it is popular and very busy lunch time and early evening. I still occasionally buy Chinese takeaways from here but could not recommend the Fish & Chips etc. Poor quality old oil cooked chips, thick unpleasant batter on a very small piece of fish and pies that look as though they have been standing a while!. However, just my personal opinion, still very busy but that could be because the other village Fish & Chip shop has closed. Overall, prices have continued to rise and although I appreciate costs have risen in recent years, takeaway value is now questionable, might have to find a new Chinese takeaway but will 100% drive to an alternative for Fish & Chips!!. Need to up your game guys!!!

Thai Green Chicken Curry. What a disgrace. This curry was the furthest thing from a Thai Green than I have ever had the mis fortune to have. First and foremost was the heat of the curry, whilst understanding that this is a "hot" curry, nothing prepared me for the level of heat, it was ridiculously hot. There was no flavour, no hint of coconut, lemon grass, garlic or coriander. Just HEAT. And to top all that, the chicken had been dyed Green by the sauce!! What on earth had they put in it , food colouring???? Even the rice turned Green when it came in contact with the sauce. As for the tomato and pineapple, 2 pieces of each, what were they all about. I have a fabulous recipe for an authentic Thai Green Curry, which I used in my commercial kitchen. I can provide you with a copy if you want. Until then, concentrate on raising the standard of the food you sell, it used to be a good chippy, but not anymore. What a shame.

This is one of the best Chinese takeaways I’ve had in a long time. I live in leamington spa, I wish Lymm fish and chip shop was there - it would put all their takeaways to utter shame. We had appetisers (prawn toast, spring rolls, spare ribs, crispy seaweed & prawn crackers) and half crispy aromatic duck. All of it was delicious!

Tonight we ordered salt and pepper chips, curry sauce, BBQ ribs, soft noodles, chicken and mushroom soup and fried mushrooms and onions. We had this same order the other night with the exception of the fried mushrooms and onions and all was delicious which is why we repeated the order tonight. Oh, what a difference. The curry sauce was vile, tasted like gravy with pepper in it. The salt and pepper chips were just a soggy lump of squishy potato with hardly any salt and pepper flavouring. The soup was nice and the ribs and the noodles were OK. However, the fried mushrooms and onions were more like boiled mushrooms and onions and were in gravy which it does not mention on the menu. I phoned to discuss this with the server but all I got was a very argumentative lady who would hardly let me speak, talked over me when I did speak and told me that chips out for delivery do go soggy. I told her I could understand this however the ones we had the other night were lovely so if all chips go soggy when out for delivery how come the ones the other night were fine She conceded that the curry sauce tonight was not a good batch. However when it came to the mushrooms and onions she did not think it was a problem that they were served swimming in gravy despite there being no mention of gravy on the menu. Her manner was not apologetic at all and her manner towards me left a bad taste in my mouth, nearly as bad as the food which mostly ended up in the bin.

I stayed at the Lymm Boutique Rooms and found Lymm Fish & Chips shop very handy. It was literally a 2 min walk from my room and the food was good. Great service and food

Ordered a take away and they tried to charge me £22.60 for fish and chips as well as chicken fried rice and curry sauce. I questioned the price and she said there had been a price increase and gave me a new menu. I said no way it was £22.60 so she reluctantly got a calculator and it added upto £16.10. No apology just spoke to each other in Chinese and laughed! When I arrived home no chicken in the meal so rang them back and there attitude was appalling. Made it out that I was making it up but eventually agreed to send over a new chicken fried rice and took the old one back for analysis. So I was left cold curry sauce but the replacement they brought round had chicken so Yipee. I then got a call to say that they had spoken to the kitchen and the rice I sent back was chicken fried rice? So they basically said I was lying! What a joke this place is they are so arrogant avoid at all costs No apology at all so make sure you check the prices so you don't get ripped off!

A very good chippy! A good choice, with fast efficient service. The chips were thick and fluffy with just the right amount of salt and vinegar. The fish was moist and flaky inside a thick crisp batter. Delusions!

portion was absolutely disgraceful, over priced too, the trays they are now using are smaller so it looks more. will be going elsewhere and letting family and friends know too how shocking this chip shop has become

Been going here for years but gotta,say the fish has shrunk but price still the same and the fish isn't the same it's a cheaper version think we will be trying the other one in the village there's,always somewhere else such a,shame because it was the best fish and chips around.goodbye

There are two dishes vegetable with garlic and vegetable with garlic and chilli. Asked three times and it was relayed back NO chilli Unfortunately we received the chilli dish. APPARENTLY THIS IS OUR FAULT . Because we asked for the wrong dish. The staff were rude and argumentative. This is how people end up in hospital when they don’t listen and disregard orders with allergies. Won’t go here again and hope someone in the future doesn’t eat there food without checking what you order you get. Disgraceful,Disrespectful and dam right Dangerous.

When you order your meal, you pay in cash. However I noticed after paying several notices saying they charge 10p for a plastic bag because of government regulations. My order of fish, chips, pudding came in a plastic bag, so I must have been charged for it. Was never asked if I wanted a bag when paying, or offered an alternative, so I guess pretty much everyone gets charged an extra 10p. Not a massive deal, but the principle is poor. Looks like they are being environmentally responsible with their notices, but all they are doing is ripping off an extra 10p. Get some paper bags and DONT use polystyrene trays if you want to be responsible. And start using card so it doesn’t appear suspicious. I always use Renees, which uses paper, takes card and the fish is infinitely better, but it was closed tonight. Won’t bother giving this lot my money again.

Noting that this chippy advertises that it is open until 11pm, and having enjoyed a couple of pints in a local pub, I nipped into the Lymm chippy at 10:15 for a late super for myself and my wife. I was surprised that they had no chips left and that the staff made no offer to cook any more. There was at least 45 minutes left until the advertised closing time, and whilst the staff did offer me some rice to pair with my pie , peas and gravy, I politely declined, and left. I shall continue to give my chippy business to the Grappenhall chippy, as I have always found it to be much better anyhow.

Visited after long spell away & disappointed to see that they now take cash only. Will not be using again as a matter of principle as we all have to contribute to keep the wheels rolling. Fish & chips were ok, prefer Big Blue in Grappenhall or would try the local competition next time.

I think these guys have done a fab job over the last year. It isn't easy and they can get crazy busy, especially on Friday and Sat nights. I don't use them for home delivery but I do get Fish & Chips most weeks (Friday) and I do have to queue for a bit, but it's like 15 minutes. It's still good quality and I've always been happy. Yes, it's a bit of a pain they don't take card payments, but overall I'm a happy 5 year customer.

Have been a customer for many years. Quality of chinese food has deteriorated. Was always good. Meat slimey chicken tastes processed. Token bit of veg. Fish and chips not great either. Staff arrogant New fish & chip shop opposite Boots chemist much much better.

Used to be good here for pie & chips but not now! Also wish they would stop using MSG! Means I cant eat any of the Chinese food or curry sauce!!! Knutsford chippy dont use it at all

Take a way arrived 30 mins late, chips were cold and rest of food was totally underwhelming. To be honest I have never been impressed with this take a way but my son swears by it but even he had to admit he had eaten better which is quite damming from him as my son doesn’t like to complain no matter how poor a meal is.

Before you get too spooked by the sweet and sour reviews, I went that same week for the first time ever and was very impressed with my fancily titled fried rice with meat and seafood, plus a small curry sauce. A decent portion served up quickly and with loads of decent sized meat/fish content. At a little over a fiver, I thought it was excellent value (especially for Lymm) and I'll definitely be back.

We've just got a Chinese take away, we've been coming here for years, and it's been good. This evening it was appalling.. the batter on the chicken balls was soggy and inedible, the sweet and sour sauce was tasteless. The chicken fried rice tasted nothing, it tasted like it had been cooked before hand and heated up in the microwave. Never had we been so disappointed.. good bye Lymm chippy.. we need a good Chinese in the village as well as a great chippy.. unless the Lymm chippy gets back to the consistently good food it once had ..

We have been getting food from here for 12 years and all was above average, and mostly great, however in the last 6 months it has been a little hit and miss, and today's food was inedible . Sweet and sour chicken is my guilty pleasure, crispy battered chicken, sticky sauce , pineapple, onions, and egg fried rice.Today's offering was cooked chicken dipped in batter and fried for a couple of seconds, the batter was set on the outside but still raw on the inside, the sauce, was just sweet sauce, without the sour.A soggy bland meal.

Our first visit to Lymm. What a lovely town. Knew the food must be good as there was a huge queue. Food was worth it, we had a lovely Chinese meal for lunch. Special lunch time prices, very reasonable. Would definitely eat from here again.

Been coming here for Chinese takeaways for over 10 years & always have enjoyed the food. Always really busy which is a good sign of good food but I would suggest calling ahead ordering and then collecting your food. Not had the fish & chips so cant comment on that.

Food arrived on time- we ordered chicken fried rice, salt and pepper chicken and chips, crispy seaweed, pork dumplings, gravy and noodles. The salt and pepper chicken and chips are fab! Noodles were good though could probably get better elsewhere- as with the crispy seaweed an pork dumplings. The gravy is out of this worldoverall a nice place with some good food!

Havnt used this chippy in over 20 years so thought i would try it again to see if it had inproved. Big mistake .bought fish and chips the fish had definately been reheated it was like rubber .never again best avoided

Since starting to do deliveries it has far too busy! Last few weeks it has been queuing out of the door around 7.30pm at the weekend! We have lived in Lymm for 15 years and never seen it so busy! Food still lovely but perhaps you could consider a different kitchen for the deliveries!?

Been here several times in the past few weeks. It’s fresh, tasty and the staff work hard. Reasonably priced. Local delivery. Always x30 mins to an hour wait at peak evening times - fri & sat after 7pm. We love the chicken with ginger & pineapple, fresh dim sum and set meals which start about £24. Parking isn’t great around the venue

We quite often walk home (which is about a 15 minute walk) and our chips are always still really good when we get home. the Chinese food is also great.

Recently moved to Lymm. This chinese knocks the socks off any in altrincham. Chicken satay and beef in black bean sauce particularly good.Happy days

We've been coming here for years and it's generally been ok until last night. We ordered a simple chippy meal and was greeted by the usual lady who takes orders, she see clearly stressed as the place was busy. She rushed our order through and left it on the counter, when I asked for salt and vinegar which is pretty standard at a chippy, she slammed them on the counter. If I hadn't have been so hungry, I would have left my food and walked out. After the awful service we received, we won't be returning. Sort yourselves out and stop taking your customer's for granted!

For a long time I used this place occasionally, but then had a bad experience with the sweet & sour chicken with seaweed extra, it tasted of soap....Not been back since!

Excellent customer service with help over my serious food allergies. Sadly there are not many places I can have complete confidence in with my food but my foo young dish was lovely and completely allergen free. I will be ordering more regular.

What a shame!!! We ordered our take out at 7pm... told it would be an hour. 9pm and A few phone calls later the delivery arrived. However a few starters and main meals missing. We ended up having to go to the chip shop to get the meals. Hardly apologetic. Offered us a bottle of coke. I told them we wouldn’t drink it but we weren’t paying for the meals. Absolute carnage in that place at the minute. Won’t be ordering from them again. AVOID!

Spent two hours trying to order food at the ‘chippy’ via the phone for a delivery but no answer on two lines. Then drove there and after 20 minutes ordered food and then waited a further 30 minutes for food.

This chip is very good fish and chips but would love the peas to be mushy not the ones they serve curry sauce is ice just a bit sweet for my taste but does have a nice little kick. Will use again.

I’ve reviewed this chippy before, and it’s a great chippy but I think it’s a victim of its own popularity. If you’re lucky you catch it just right however when it’s really busy I think it’s pot luck, I’m the type that DEFINITELY doesn’t like undercooked chips, that crunch of rawness when they’ve taken them out too early, sometimes even a tad limp and greasy(possibly just something as simple as a change of potato variety maybe) but mostly I think they’re just too busy and the turnover and quality then suffers, it completely ruins it for me, it’s a chippy that we travel to, we like to park up at the canal side and eat, watching barges go by. It’s getting ever harder these days to find somewhere that is 100% consistent with their food. It’s by no means a bad place( you’ll know what I mean by that when you visit and see the queues outside before opening)but despite that I feel it can be a bit hit and miss.

Went to night and by hubby had the soup to start, crabmeat & sweetcorn. 'Crabmeat' for a changw it was awful was actually awful crab sticks which tasted like plastic, won't be getting this again, let's hope the main tastes better!!

Visiting Lymm all the boaters recommend this place from near and afar. Both the fish and the chips were very good. Tasty.

Great value and take it outside and eat it sitting by the canal. For those of us who live outside the UK, nice to get proper chips!

We have used for Chinese food a couple of times and it is ok at a pinch. For fish and chips it is poor - go to the big blue in Grappenhall. We stopped going here in the end because one of the younger staff was always stood outside smoking and it put us off.

The batter comes off on the newspaper, very fatty and expensive! I always go to The Big Blue in Grappenhall - a total contrast to this rubbish

This place offers a very tasty and plentiful menu. It caters as a chip shop and as a Chinese takeaway, all staff are on board with their hands full, working frantically to deliver good customer service. The downside of this place is the lengthy waiting period, but saying that, the wait is well rewarded by the food to receive.

Shame they don't deliver, but the food is fast and fresh.Love crispy chilli shredded beef (cant find it the same anywhere else) & bbq ribs. All my family like different dishes from salt & pepper chicken to special chow mein. So good! Only downside I can even think of to the chippy is the peas arent mushy, so I dont order them!

Great little chippy! Good quality Chinese cuisine or just good old fashioned fish and chips. My favorite is a chip barm cake, just what you need after a few pints round the village!

This is brilliant little chippie. It's only small but don't let that put you off. The girls who work there are so friendly and polite. I can't comment on the Chinese food but if it's anything like the fish and chips then I'm sure it's lovely. The service is always fast and the food is always cooked to a high standard. On a summers evening there's nothing better than sitting on a bench next to the canal that runs past the chippie and enjoying your food straight from the paper.

Lovely take away with great quick service. The girls are all so lovely in there and recommend great dishes. Good for chinese or fish and chips! Only accepts cash so dont forget to get some out (I often forget)!

This place is always hammered, we go maybe once a week, a good little chippy in a nice village, park up in the car park watching the narrowboats whilst we eat up, the fish is cod by the way not cobbler and such

Continues to be a very popular Chinese & Chippie takeaway. Busy at lunch times and evenings be prepared to queue early doors. Does not stay open very late to get pub closing trade so obviously doing very well. Located very close to the Bridgewater Canal so a great takeaway for those with boats or tourist/locals enjoying their food beside the canal. Good quality fish, chips & pies and excellent Chinese menu, not over heavy with MSG. Located in the heart of the village, I believe closed on Sundays, suggest you check on that. Enjoy.

Lovely little Chinese/ Chippy we had the fish and chips and they went down a treat on the canal boat, staff were friendly.. And you can really see they take pride in there business and food keep it up! It would be nice to see a small sign for the side of the towpath so people on canal boat holidays know in advance there is a chip shop just down the slope..

The fish and chips are good when cooked fresh; there is generally a queue so freshness is not normally an issue. On bank holidays a queue will build up outside before 5 with hungry patrons.There is no other chippy in Lymm so they do have a monopoly and would lose out potentially due to the lack of fish options. The Big Blue in Grappenhall is a better true chippy in terms of fish selection but the chips are on par. Friendly staff and decent prices, I've always enjoyed my meals from here. I don't know how often they change the oil but I've never had a problem with old oil or fishless fish.The Chinese is freshly cooked and very tasty, I've not had a bad dish to be honest. The place could do with a lick of paint and updating but it's a takeaway and the food talks for itself.

At least once every two weeks will phone my Chinese order to the shop jump in the car and drive to the village to collect one of the best. Hi see meals I have had since I left London to come back north

Just terrible. I live in Lymm and thought it was time to try this chip shop. Never again. Very little fish fried in The most disgusting oil which has lead a bad taste on my pallet. The chips were tough. It's a shame. The staff are friendly, but the food is awful. It isn't helped by having a rubbish bin out side the door. Warrington council; it needs emptying! This chippy avoided being bland by just going straight to awful.

This Chippy is brilliant but always packed so be prepared to wait. Food is always cooked nice and fresh and it's not overly priced.

Just had a takeaway Fish n Chips. The fish was awful. All batter and only half a fish. This place keeps getting great reviews but I'm sure it must be after closing time. Often have chips with green or brown bits in. Probably trying to make as much money as possible with poor ingredients. Just not going to use again. It's worth the drive to The Big Blue in Grappenhall.

We have used the chippy shop for the last 3 years and have always found the food to be fresh and tasty. Last week we ordered from their Chinese menu and we're pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality. Lymm chippy wins twice as the only chippy in the village as well as the best Chinese too! Only wished they delivered.

Best chips in the country if you get them when they are freshly cooked. (Maybe at quiet times they should cook smaller batches then you could guarantee the quality all the time).

We often order Fish & Chips from here as a group of around 14 - 16 people and everyone always enjoys them.We eat them at a different venue & normally just take a large order in & they serve us within 10 - 15 minutes.The staff are always pleasant & courtious...Because of their excellent service,we will be going there again very soon.Well done to the staff who work here.

We have lived in France for the last twelve years and when we visit the UK , we love going to a Chippy . This Chippy was excellent , Food was very Good and very nice friendly staff , quick service , Reccomended !

Had both the Chinese and the fish and chips from here several times. Really good fish and chips (eaten after the Lymm beer festival on the way home) that went down a treat- tasty and nice and hot. We also have yet to be disappointed by the Chinese. We always ring up and are able to collect it within 20 mins. A very good selection of dishes, and the vegetables are crunchy and the sauces not too gelatinous like other Chineses we have tried. Will continue to go as service is always speedy and polite, and the food is good.

Absolutely love this takeaway. We usually phone our order through and it is never more than a 30 minute wait, usually only 15-20 minutes. We have never had a bad meal from here and been patrons for years. Staff are friendly. Our children love their once a month "chippy tea". A definate recommend.

Superb fish and chips. Superb Chinese take away. It's always very busy but that's because it's so good. Don't be put off by the queues. The team are so efficient you get your meal in no time at all. One of many superb eateries within a 5 minute walk around Lymm village.

Over priced and average. People rate this take away highly but to be honest I don't get what all the fuss is about. All dishes we've ever had taste the same and often look the same and pretty bland. Rice and chips are extra cost which I wouldn't mind if the dishes were cheap but they are not. Its often very busy with long waiting times. I don't think it's because it's great food but the fact there isn't another Chinese fish and chip shop close by.

Brilliant always a queue but food excellent. Worth a visit. Fish and chips great taste superb eating them in the car. The chinese meals are great to. Good menu selection, lots to choose from. Not far from the car park to walk.

The Chinese Fish and Chip Shop and Chinese Takeaway in Lymm is amazing. I have never seen such a busy takeaway - so many customers were arriving it was difficult to find a place to stand and wait for one's food. I saw 6 female staff working efficiently at the fryers whilst another took the orders. A number of other staff made regular appearances to deliver the Chinese meals from the kitchens. The food was excellent and the portions generous while the prices were lower than other local establishments. The rapid turnover of local customers is testament to the excellent standard.

Went the other day and I must admit the fish and chips where great. I was a bit disappointed with the mushy peas. My wife had the sweat and sour chicken balls which was a bit over cooked but overall and good take out.

I've lived here for nearly 6 years now but never visited the chippy before. Went for fish and chips earlier this week and they were outstanding. Really fresh fish, crispy batter and well cooked chips plus very friendly staff. Going back for Chinese soon. Well worth a visit.

I've been coming here for years, this place used to do the nicest curry sauce the nicest chow mein genuinely the nicest food in Lymm, but now the food is rubbish!! Don't know if new people have taken over or they just don't care about their food anymore but I like so many others are really disappointed with the food I get now, even been a few times just to make sure it wasn't just a bad day!! The noodles in chow mein aren't cooked the curry sauce is now made too spicy the chips are soggy and dripping with grease some food to burn for consumption (ribs) !! And the staff can be so rude and it's obvious that they are talking about you but they do so in Chinese!!Hope it can turn itself around as I for one used to really enjoy this place.

Good food from a quirky place. Lovely staff and sensible prices. One does not expect a Chinese fish and chip shop, but the food is great so they're doing something right!
