Without doubt the worst Chinese meal I have ever had.Salt and pepper ribs were bones in batter and were neither salted or peppered,slimy noodles and prawns from Iceland....and I don't mean the country, even the prawn crackers were tasteless.The salt and pepper chips were ok but never again a really expensive mistake

The chicken fried rice was about as exciting as toothache It was bland tasteless undercooked I ordered it 30 secs later it arrived Shocking no wonder the place was empty

Customer service after retuning my main back on the discovery of a long black hair (which was not on the menu) in the chow mein the lady was very rude, denied it was her hair and accused me of planting it into the main meal, along with the cold chips this will be the last time we will come here.

Always a reliable Chinese takeaway. Food is great and doesn’t leave you with that tired feeling most Chinese restaurants do with the added MSG and additives. Food is always hot and ready on time when preordered

A portion of chips which was actually a portion of scraggy bits of a spud. Noodles so overcooked they were like a tub of mush. Sweet and sour chicken that tasted like chicken in vinegar. Chicken satay in a dirty watery sauce. Very overpriced and extremely poor quality food. Go elsewhere!

I’ve not eaten meat in years and they gave me meat in my veggie spring rolls. It was advertised as a vegetarian dish and yet had chicken in it. Quite disgusted actually

Awful meal, undercooked chips , soggy sweet and sour chicken with a thin sauce that tasted only of vinegar. Expensive, especially for such poor quality food.

Very nice & reasonably priced Chinese meals. Quick service by very polite staff.

My son offered to treat us all to a Chinese take away meal and spent the better part of £50 on five individual meals. Three of the five of us opted for char sui pork in Peking sauce with fried rice. All three meals consisted of pork and onion swamped in the Peking sauce. When poured over the rice it became more like a risotto dish than a Chinese meal. Most of the sauce/rice ended up in the bin. To be fair, there was a reasonable amount of pork in each portion but the volume of onion and lack of any other vegetables made for a very poor meal overall. My other son had black bean sauce over noodles which were very dry and hard as if they had been left out under heat before sale. The other meal was chicken satay skewers which were dry and tough(chewy) alongside a chicken and sweetcorn soup. The worst was yet to come. Indigestion and a tremendous thirst for the rest of that evening. The following morning we all woke up with horrendous headaches and indigestion. I can only speculate that they are using MSG (monosodium glutamate) to enhance the flavour of an otherwise bland dish. It took most of the day before any of us felt back to normal. Needless to say we will not be returning to Golden City EVER AGAIN!!

Fast service and great food. This was a lunch visit so just got some of my favourite salt and pepper wings.

AVOID this Chinese takeaway. Salt and pepper ribs had no meat, just batter on a bone. Crispy shredded chilli beef had no beef inside, just batter that was rock hard. Called to complain and they refused to refund.

Not the cheapest but the food is great quality and you're certainly gauranteed great portion sizes. If you fancy a Chinese takeaway in Grappenhall this is the one to choose.

We have had several takeaways from the Golden City and have enjoyed then. However, what went wrong last night? The Salt and Pepper Rib s were dreadful. The batter was chewy and lumpy. It was covering some unidentifiable meat. It was like chewing rubber. The Special Fried Rice had lumps of some sort brown, chewy meat (?) in this bland dish. The whole meal fell very short of expectations. Will we return? I doubt it!

Ok. Chips better than the Chinese food

The salt and pepper chips from here are the best in Warrington. I haven't had their fish and chips yet but all their Oriental food is really nice and very consistent quality. I've never had a bad meal from here.

The Spicy Singapore Chow Mein is fabulous!

Used this place a few times and always been very good. Went there last night and was so dissapointed. The salt and pepper ribs were cold and looked as though they was cooked a good while before being served(probably in warmer or a good while) the salt and pepper chips where seriously awful and they just got binned. The 2 mls where ok but could have been better. I hope this is only a blip... good takeaway normally.

Was going to try the choy hing nearby but that was closed so ordered take away here. Had heard from some others that it was good . When we got there (Tuesday evening) there was a queue which is always a good sign and some "big" customers ordering which is an even better sign as fatties won`t tolerate rubbish fast food ! We ordered the duck and the usual chinese dishes and rice/noodles and the quality in all the dishes was excellent including the type of meat used in each dish. The chips looked good as well. Some people have said its slightly more expensive but I would willingly pay the extra for this. Highly recommended.

Excellent! Every time we have had a meal from here it has been perfect. We phone our order through and normally collect about 30 minutes later. Any requests for something to be adapted (less garlic/more veg etc) is accommodated no problem. Keep up the good work. 👌

I ordered a fish at this Chinese by mistake thinking it was one another one nearby. So happy I made the error because the fish and chips I ordered from here were perfect! I am not easy to please but my god this was so good I felt obliged to give 5 stars. This Chinese in now on my radar and I will be back again to try some other traditional Chinese but the fish and chips.. Just Wow Amazing. Sorry no picture I had to sample as soon as I dished it out. Great Chinese, food tastes fresh and is always piping hot. Not cheap but worth every penny! Always quick for collection too. Much better than a lot of its competitors and service with a smile - bonus!

Salt and pepper ribs and bbq spare ribs , they were exactly that all bone , will never eat from this place again shocking , and not cheap , very dissatisfied

Unfortunately there's no 0. Poor quality, tasteless, pricey, spring rolls were oily, pork ribs tasted like frozen and heated up, sauces were tasting old, noodles was overcooked. The worst experience ever. £27 in the bin, literally. We couldn't eat!

Great service and food every time

This was our first time at The Golden City-we tang and placed an order for crispy duck in plum sauce with boiled rice. We clarified the order several time’s and were told to collect in 20 minutes. I arrived in plenty of time to collect our order and again clergies at the til that we wanted crispy duck in plum sauce. The lady who served us assured us that was what we were being given. I ordered fish, salt and pepper chips, mushy peas and gravy whilst I waited for our Chinese takeaway. I took the food home and plated the meal up for my partner. He Began to eat the meal and stated that it tasted different to the duck in plum sauce that he had previously had oat other restaurants. A few mouthfuls later he noticed that there were cashew nuts in his meal that he had eaten! He has a nut allergy! Following an evening of upset stomach and sore mouth we gathered that we had been given the incorrect meal. We won’t be ordering here again for Chinese meals. This error could prove to ge very serious for a customer with a more severe allergy. To provide a completely fair review-the fish, chips, peas and gravy were lovely! Such a shame that our evening was ruined by an incorrect order being given to us.

The ONLY proper chip shop in Grappenhall. The often hyped one opposite is nowhere near as good, in my humble opinion.

So so disappointed, have used this takeaway several times and enjoyed, however the last couple of times have really disappointed. Chicken in black bean sauce with fried noodles, awful so dry hardly any black bean sauce and the noodles were in a solid lump they obviously hadn’t been mixed together. Sweet and sour chicken, chicken was stringy and fatty and so unpleasant it couldn’t be ate. Gutted this place has gone downhill 😢

Been there many times before, food is always constant, freshly cooked, steaming hot, good sized portions, very friendly, helpful and polite staff, service is quick and efficient.You don't need to look any further, this is by a country mile, the best Chinese food you will buy in Warrington .

Don't let the dated front put you off this is a nice little spot with reasonably priced, good tasting food and generous quantities. The staff are friendly. 4 stars because they only take cash no card however there is a cash machine about 50 meters away outside Tesco.

Went on 24/05/18 as we were babysitting our grandson. Just arrived after driving down been to this place a few times always welcome and takes my scottibank notes unlike some other places after al, it's British money. Had sausage so nice warm very good , steak puddings can't get them in Scotland got to be Hollands they were so hot and the suet pastry cooked perfect. Chips what a portion cooked so good nearly the perfect chips. Gravy was love,y was even mushroom in the gravy. Peas were tiny bit watery but all in all very nice . Lovely clean takeaway with very friendly staff.

Had good recommendations for this takeaway. The first time we tried it, we really enjoyed the combination and main meal. However, this last visit was not a good. The combination was in so much syrup that it was not pleasant. The prawn toast was sitting in the syrup and it made it really stodgy. The spare ribs were large, they looked good but we both felt that they should have been cooked for longer and were not as good as on previous visits. They were cooked but needed longer to make them less meaty. The ¼ duck was tasty and had 6 pancakes. The service is always good and it is always busy. They are good at taking telephone orders. There is some parking nearby.

Great chinese takeaway but don,t deliver . Not the cheapest but you get good portions and very consistant quality always . Would not go anywhere else . I often go at dinner time for a "chippy dinner" and again everything is very very nice . Its not the cheapest chippy / chinese around but we are talking say an extra 50 p than other chippys but they dont skimp on the likes of curry / gravy / peas / chips /chinese meals . Nice thin noodles, lovely big prawns, tasty pork and chicken. And the chips are proper chippy chips. No 1 for me!

Only visited once but found that it was very expensive for what you get and the food average to poor. Wouldn't bother coming here again. Better quality Chinese food is available elsewhere locally at better prices.
